If you take those stick baits with no fall action and ball them up in your hand and roll them around a little bit they soften up and they really come alive. Makes a huge difference
I’ve heard this should be done will all soft plastics. I’ve been fishing my whole life never heard of this till last week. Definitely going to give it a shot. It also makes the appearance change which could also be a benefit
I fish Yum Dingers exclusively and the ones I fish have action the same as Senkos. I was surprised to see them score a 1 here. Not sure I do anything in particular that causes them to act up, but I wonder if tempt or water temp have some effect.
@@KanonMorris the weight plays a factor. I’ve had it where a dinger produced better than a Senko and vise versa. This is especially true in really shallow water. Sometimes the Senko falls too fast. My favorite is the general. One thing I like about the general, is when you work it through the water and stop like we do with all stick baits. The general will hunt. It won’t just shimmy straight back down sometimes it with fall to one side or the other, which I believe generates more strikes.

You wonder why companies will make a product that doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. And we still buy them. But your video is a product buster. Thanks
I was thinking about doing a weightless test again for this one but with a sightly heavier wacky hook and see what happened. I was using a small #1 for this video.
I've found that a green pumpkin/blue glitter 5" Yum Dinger on a #1 VMC Weedless Wacky hook does the job for 90% of my wacky worm fishing. The other 10% is done with a Sungill colored Dudley Wacky Worm, just for the color. The dinger has a great, slower fall and the Sungill Dudley Wacky, although really soft, is an irresistible bream imitator.
What a really thorough video! Great process and highly repeatable. I feel that's how experimentation should be. The setup you used to find the breaking point of each worm was really impressive!
Just that portion of the test took 8hrs. Lol. I need a little break before I do another one like that. Definitely gets more involved the deeper you get into it.
That slight bit of wait sure made a big difference. I had been using a weighted wacky for years when river fishing, but definitely have one tied on more often now.

Great comparison Steve! I love Senko's and have been throwing them for ages. I still catch a lot of fish with them. I have tried those O-rings on them to get a little bit more durability, but it seems like I get less bites with the O-ring. It could be a strike deterrent I'm guessing especially in clear water.
I used the o-ring for a while too but have gone back to rigging them without. I am interested to try those VMC cross rings. I haven't experimented with those yet.
I love this video! I've been using the Eco Pro Tungsten Pro Wacky weights for years. It instantly turns mediocre action worms into Senko-like action, plus I prefer a faster fall using the 1/16 oz weight. Also, the unique rigging extends the life of your plastics. Keep up the great work!
I so enjoy your videos!! It feels like certain Senko colors are softer than other colors. Adding colors to the water tear test x the # of worms would be a Herculean feat to attempt!!! But, relevant when adding strengths to the variables. Some Senko colors feel notably softer Water Gremlin Bull Shot are pinch on Texas worm cone shaped weights, all the way down to 1/64 oz. Pinching 1 above the wacky hook is an option also, instead of using a 1/8 oz jig keep it closer to weightless + a little extra sinking oomph. Pinching it up the line a bit also changes the effect once the worm hits the bottom, sort of like a Carolina or free rig would with a lift & drop style but with a pinched on weight. (hopefully I'm not butchering the description) (NY does not allow lead split shot so I don't really know if these would be legal or not there)
Great information thank you just asking what would happen if you moved the hook over just a little bit and maybe even if you shaved one end down a little bit to make it lighter

Working through grass and multiple strikes, I was replacing them around every dozen casts. And that was after readjusting the hook in multiple different ways to make it work as long as possible. And, to be fair, probably 30-40% of the time it might’ve been 2 dozen casts, but that was no bites and minimal undergrowth. We were fishing strip pits in SE Kansas and the Milfoil and just regular growth makes the experience rough. The greenery is in SO MUCH of the water, and that’s where the bass are hiding post spawn. At least there. Did get a few pointers f/ Steve to help w/ that last Sunday, but unfortunately our little monthly pit tournaments are on SATURDAYS so I was a little late!🤣🤣 Hell, I d never heard of Steve til the day AFTER our little competition! 🤣🤣😢😢
I was wondering the same thing. I would definitely as the water warms and becomes less dense there would be some impact. I will have to experiment with this when it gets really hot this summer.

I just struggle with the fragility of the Yamamotos nowadays. Through the grapevine I e heard it’s due to ownership changing, but who knows. The things are DEFINITELY effective, but damn! 🤣🤣😢😢
Man thanks for doing the leg work Steve cool to know!
You bet!
Big Bites Baits, Fat Sticks vibrate on the fall and rise weightless.
I wonder if water temp would affect the action
I was wondering the same thing. I would definitely as the water warms and becomes less dense there would be some impact. I will have to experiment with this when it gets really hot this summer.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Soft plastics can become less pliable with colder temps and more pliable with warmer temps also.
great video!!
Thank you!!
I use a zoom Black trick worm for THE BEST Wacky Style Catching more than plenty Large Mouth Bass👍

I've never notice any catch difference by brand. I by generic ebay bulk.
At the price of plastics these days, bulk is such a great way to go.
You tested them all, I *tasted* them all.
