- This is the beginning of the road to sub 35, this run could've been even faster if we had better RNG (especially in Act 2)
Using some new strats: I start out with a high energy Frost Nova build that respecs to the Nova Sorc build after placing the staff in the altar in act 2
This was a challenging run, but managed to pull through despite a few unfortunate RNG circumstances.

We used to do this barbarian ironman challenge back in 1.09 classic. No running back or creating new games, you only got each zone once. Started out with slow meticulous clears to maximize loot until people started finding strats and optimizations.
Miss that little group of players. Probably could've been fun to watch and make speedruns of if we had the ability to record gameplay the way we do today.

You can drink the rejuv wells twice. You only seem to drink them once. Do it both times to get that mana back up and tele away!!
Edit: I have since seen you hit it twice :)
Sometimes I don't drink twice because I don't want the regen from the potion to disappear, it does when you hit full mana, but it's situational - if I was at basically 0 mana and then I find the well on my last tele to see it, I'd drink twice

finally you uploaded this. i watched it hours after live stream. that could be the best act1. but you don't have the +1 lightning amulet as Bender's 36'32 does, or 327's stealth, so not the best act 4-5. can't really imagine what a sub 35 would require for gear

Hello @kano did you consider to run directly to jail lvl 1 (check setup), and then make quickly den with frost nova? Seems faster and definitely faster to restart if jail 1 fails
It could be worth considering, but the actual fastest strategy in the end will probably be a Den skip entirely that relies on an extra layer of early game RNG (good early gold start, skill shrines, etc.)

That act 1! Can it be any better? The jail objects a re so co-located.. and these catacombs..
Do they use fixed map seeds for d2 speed runs? Seems like map rng would be a massive factor?
It's random seeds and yeah map RNG can make a pretty big difference but there is a skill to reading maps too
what the hell?!?! a few years back when I heard about theoretical cheated speedrun for sorc at around 40mins I thought it was crazy but what did I just saw?! Maaan you are hella crazy and congratulations to you, youre a beast
The 40 minutes in that theoretical run was the total time including the loading screens. And it assumed sub-optimal leveling as level 18 was obtained by farming Beetleburst, meaning that all the catacombs and the desert were walked on foot.
Why legacy mode for Akara at the start? Is there a bug that makes items cheaper to buy?
The "yes" will unalign in the new graphics if you move your cursor one pixel, to avoid this we shop in classic gfx for convenience

Maybe when you respec into Nova you shave off some life for a deeper mana pool? Sometimes you seem to pound on Nova when you could static some more before the actual kill.
Is an FCR wand necessary? I mean, is an Act 2 wand with a bonus to mana/energy better?

i'd be cool if you'd explain why you're doing what you're doing. like why are you switching to old graphics in the vendor menus and during the boss waves before baal?

I did not touch this game for like 15 or even 20 years, so I might be wrong, but the graphic looks better, than it used to. Or am I imagining things? Also, the last time when I watched speed runs of diablo 2 everybody was farming certain runes in act 1, don't remember which ones though, it was a long time ago... Anyway, it was an interesting watch.

Would meditation merc work a little better than the blessed aim? It's only used to tank a few hits, no?

Until lvl 22 merc has a Level 5 Prayer aura, that means +3 life per second, not useless but well...
A single Greater Potion heals for 7.68 seconds, and it gives to Sorceress (180 life) ~23 life per second and for the Merc (270 life) ~35 life p/second.
Because of this low value of prayer, the Defiance aura would prob doe more, for example against a Doom Knight (Act4 Chaos Sanctuary) your merc with the +5 defiance aura would be 20% less likely to be hit ( From 85% to 65% ).
The +5 Blessed Aim is a solid +135% AR, that helps the merc a bit to hit mobs above his level, mostly all stuff on the speedrun.
In the end of the day, some people will call for the phrase: "The best defense is a good offense".
fair, I think the defense aura might have more use in a speedrun situation. As far as I recall, I may misremember, it was mostly to tank duriel and mephisto to cast static safely. Maybe than 1/2 extra dodge due to increase defense would be preferable to him hitting for little to no dmg@@euklesio

Nice run. I remember staying up late when I was kid so that I could take part of early ladder after reset. And I was always wondering how some people already show up level 70ish when I was just starting to search for tomb runs. I guess this video answers this question. Just buy mana and tele and skip everything and use static on every boss. Now put 8 such players in 1 team and no wonder they are doing hell baal runs while normies are still doing tomb runs.
When was this new tech found for Baal where you stand at the entrance and he never summons?
I think sometime around 2020 or something? It was just a bit before D2R release

When did you save Deckart Cain? And if you stay out of range Baal never launches enemies like Lister the tormentor? Interesting.
Never saved Cain, it's not a requirement - Also it's a Baal wave skip (I'll have a video on this at some point) but it takes some very specific timing around keeping him in and out of load range

I click the quest icon but I think the FPS of the video is too low to capture it actually displaying, but you can also know by the missing symbol behind summoner

Just have to follow the build and hit as many FCR breakpoints as possible - survivability is also important too

Why does the screen keep changing.
D2R makes it so that you can toggle back and forth between Resurrected graphics and the legacy graphics.
When shopping potions the new graphics "yes" will unalign itself if you move your cursor one pixel, to avoid this I swap to classic graphics.
how to you move the potions from the belt to inv so fast at 31:30?

Why the standing around at 38:30? It looks like a waste of time but you have a world record and I don't, so I have to assume there's a reason

this is probably a really cool run but i cant stand the 1 sided conversation and apparently the runner needs donations to buy food on his table that he doesn't have, surely we have the technology to record it without all that stuff and no i wont mute and no i dont want a weird parasocial relationship, good work on the run though i guess keep it up mister d2 player guy

lol, people still play this crappy cashgrab? Dude you could be playing Median XL instead which is basically diablo 2 with multiple LoD-sized expansion packs on top of it, all for free. MXL and other major mods like Eastern Sun will never ever be compatible with D2R, and if you prefer a more vanilla experience, then play Path of Diablo or Project Diablo 2, also not compatible with D2R.
