Dig it. I just watched some guy build brand new tiny house on a fancy trailer with all new material…. I almost wanted to die. Thanks for being cool and building with old stuff
When I found this video, I stopped work on my greenhouse to rethink my way of building. Thank you for the video and better building ideas/tips !! I loved the fact you were able to use the family stained glass window!
We built our Greenhouse out of mostly reclaimed windows and doors. But I love the square glass tiles. We ended up filling in the excess space with wood fence boards. But I love the look of the glass tiles... Great job.
I was lucky finding windows from an old farmhouse , 35 windows for $80 ! Your videos are very informative in regards of how to fix those vintage windows ! Thanks !
We’re working on a greenhouse now using old windows. Really enjoyed watching your process. Thanks so much for sharing all the info. You’re very lucky to have such wonderful salvage places to choose from....I was drooling over all the window selections you had!!! Great job on your greenhouse!! 🪴
Thanks for the encouragement! I finished the roof around the first part of last November.. just in time for the winter rains here in the Seattle area. I'll edit some of the video I made of the roof installation and try to up-load it soon! I might even include some video of my granite floor tiles.
Hi there, just found your channel. This is a great video! I found some old shower doors last year that I am using as a mini greenhouse in the garden and was looking for some inspiration. Thanks for posting.
wow I say this is a great video that is a very great wonderful idea I'm actually building 3green houses and I was wondering how was I going to do this but now I have a better way of doing this thanks to the video
Running the glass to the floor risks breakage and time destroying repairs. Might have saved you some time to have a 3 ft wall along the bottom. Also, blocking out areas of the upper level seems counterintuitive for a green house since all your light comes from above. Cut plexiglass would be sufficient there. Just a thought. Otherwise a fun and inspiring project!
I love you explained everything you did and it looks amazing! The only downside about is your video making made me dizzy! But great job with the greenhouse!
This is awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. Gorgeous! I'm so glad you posted this. Thank you! Wow. Perfect. I'm re-inspired to keep collecting my old windows and drawing up plans for my lean-to green house on the south side of my home to provide heat in winter as well as function as a green house. I'm looking forward to your next videos on this. Please keep working on your amazing greenhouse! (However, your camera work is a bit nauseating at times. You spin around very quickly and shake and wobble quite a bit. I had to frequently close my eyes.)
+Erika Christiansen hey ,if anyone else is searching for diy greenhouse ideas try Lomonting Easy Greenhouse Mentor (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my m8 got amazing success with it.
So far I only open the door and upper windows in the summer time to reduce the heat on hot days. It still gets hot on the inside. So keeping an airflow is what I have attempted to do.
I'm thinking of using vintage windows myself although I'm concerned some of them are single panes. Do you believe it's possible to install storm windows behind the single-pane-of-glass to get better insulation?
the storm windows would be easy to install if you had the right spacing between your framing studs. It's a good idea for holding the heat in. I've simply used the single pane vintage windows because I like how it looks from the inside and out. It does cool off quicker but we live in a mild weather community in Western Washington so the interior of the house remains warm enough for growing things. I also supplement the heat with a small heater on low. This maintains the temperature inside to about 10 degrees above whatever the temp is outside. Whenever the sun pops out the temp inside rises quickly!
No angle bracing. The structure is small enough (12' x 12') with much of the flex taken out by the installation of the windows. It seems very firm over the last few years.
probably around $2000 depending on the prices for the recycled windows. I found some really good deals at a repurposed buildings materials store in Tacoma but some less than good deals at local antiques stores. When you have a certain space to fill and need an old wooden window you really have to look around.
Warning: many old windows have lead paint. Please wash hands and/or set aside some gloves for handling lead paint which can then be disposed of safely.
@@timblair3004 did you nail the 2x2’s and then screw the window frames to them? I’ve loved your videos and have watched them over and over as we’ve been building our greenhouse. Thank you for making them. I’d love to see an updated video of how it’s going, did you do a irrigation system?
I dug out the floor and spread out evenly about 6 inches of sand. Then I laid on top of the sand pieces of granite or counter top quartz. The granite was given to me by a contractor friend who installs new kitchens. You could contact any contractor who does such remodels and you'll find they have a large supply of left over quartz or granite. The quartz is a man-made counter top material that is much stronger than normal granite. I just took a masonry circular saw blade and cut up the pieces to fit together inside the greenhouse floor. I first laid out the inside boundaries of the floor on a flat place outside of the greenhouse and began piecing together the quartz. Once that area was completely covered I then transferred all the quartz pieces into the greenhouse.
@@timblair3004 I would like to find out what did you do for the flooring is it stone brick did you just leave it as is concrete what did you do as far as the flooring
Polycarbonate panels would have been a lot easer and much better and probaly cheaper in the end instead of dealing with those old lead painted windows that have very thin glass and breaks easy , not to be negative BUT!
Yes... you are probably right. I did use the poly panels on the roof. I just loved the old fashioned look of wooden sash windows. It produced a vintage look that I was aiming for. But your thoughts about expense are true. My dad used to work in an old hardware store (1950s- 1980s) and he showed me how to cut glass, point and putty them back into the wooden frames. So, it was with some nostalgia that I fixed up some of the old wooden windows that had broken or missing window panes. It was just good memories. Thanks for your input.

Do you heat it in the winter? If so, how.
How did you install the windows? Video didn't show that.
I'm lucky enough to find windows free, in people's driveway...lotsa home remodeling going on...😉
Hello Tim,
Just about finished with my build and you mentioned possible a fan for ventilation. Being in Texas, have you found a decent solution?
Jeff

Thank you. I'm trying to balance the aesthetics with functionality. Unfortunately I'm living in New England so it's not an easy task thank you again
I was wondering did you add any angle bracing between the walls
No angle bracing. The structure is small enough (12' x 12') with much of the flex taken out by the installation of the windows. It seems very firm over the last few years.
Any idea of your final cost of this greenhouse? Even a ballpark estimate would be helpful! Thanks!

What is the size of your green house and how many windows you installed?
the basic dimensions are 12' x 12' with about 34 old wood framed windows
I made it with woodprix !
Fantastic option to me also.
SPAM.... woodprix is spam for building plans you can usually get free on youtube!
These plans are just perfect to me. Absolutely outstanding!
Thanks
