    I've been collecting windows and a good door ....my family thinks lm crazy every time they see my collection but I have had this idea for a while and should be able to start building mine in the fall. Hopefully it will turn out similar to yours.

    Nice greenhouse. Once you said math was involved, I knew it wasn't for me. 😂😂

    Those cubes are called cobble stones and highly prized for most people to use for paving. Originally used so women would not get their hoop dresses dirty from scraping the hem in the dirt... back in the day :)

    I would use the granite cubes for the greenhouse floor.

    Stones are more stable when they are stacked with the seams of the second row stones meeting in the center of the stone on the first row and so on. The stones on the end of every other row will have to be cut in half to fit.

    With the steel footers the corner posts sit in, wouldn't water get down in there underneath the post and still cause rot? That's just my thinking anyway but I live in Australia, in an area where wet rot isn't a thing. We don't get much rain. Lovely little house I have visions of creating my own one day when I have enough windows.

    Stone floor, even gapped for water drainage would assist in warming in winter as the stones would absorb heat and release later?

    Great project! And a really nice combination of reused material and new wood/concrete to make solid foundations. With the greenhouse spared the scorching rays of summer afternoons but able to get full sunlight in winter, it sounds like maybe the placement was actually perfect?
    Also, those look like cobblestones to me, and those are *very* expensive where I live. Amazing to have found nearly 3,000 of them on your property!

    Awesome greenhouse! Really enjoying your content. Just subscribed! ❤. We are planning a greenhouse video for our DIY/garden channel as well. I guess that’s why my phone suggested this video because it knew I had been googling greenhouses. 😂. Glad to have found you.

      Oh yes! There are two upper windows on the front and back that pivot out to vent hot air. Forgot to mention that.

    I am building (almost) exactly what you built. I've got all the windows and lumber but haven't started yet because all I have is the idea of what I want but not the knowledge of how to build it and Oh, how I wish you had videoed your build. I've been doing research and looking at blue prints and then doing it all over again. I Will build it this year. Thanks for the run through of your build. I may have to make friends with a builder so I can have some expert advice.

      Having advice from someone is a good idea. Most important part is to get the foundation right…and that it can support the weight of the remaining structure. Good luck!

    Did you install the windows before you lifted the walls into place or after?

    • @TheCrockerCottage
      @TheCrockerCottage  9 місяців тому +2

      After. I premeasured the openings as we built the walls. Once the walls were up I placed each window in with screws temporarily and once everything was done, I permanently put them in. But you definitely want to put your wall up without the windows.

    Turn your horseshoe around... you are pouring out all your luck. "According to the old wives tale, a horseshoe is considered lucky because it is believed to ward off evil spirits, with the crescent shape symbolizing the moon and protecting against the "evil eye"; the most common practice is to hang a horseshoe over a doorway with the open ends pointing upwards to "catch" good luck."
