  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the US of having "abandoned" its previous policy.
The UN Security Council's first resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire came after calls for urgent action to avert a famine in Gaza.
Since the start of the conflict, the US has used its veto power to block three Security Council resolutions calling for pauses in the fighting or a ceasefire.
Matthew Wright asks callers if their views on Israel have shifted since October 7th. He hears from Elliot and Woody.

I think it’s absolutely a breech of Palestine fundamental rights to self determination . The Isreal ideology of Zionism is out of date when you steal another’s land rights and then occupy their land . We the British have so much to answer for . Hamas always meant that they needed a Palestinian state. But let me ask you this... Israel has killed 30000 Palestinians and are basically ethnically cleansing them, you think because they didn't include (In all CAPS) ELIMINATE the Palestinians in the Likud charter then their actions to try actually eliminate them don't really count because they are not in a charter?

History didn't start on October the 7th. In 2018 Palestinians went on the great march of return and the majority of the march was extremely peaceful. Israeli snipers took this opportunity to shoot physically disabled people and children. They have been in a concentration camp for decades and brutalised by Israel. I blame Palestinians for hating Israelis as much as I blame a Jewish person in the 40s hating the Nazis. How dare people who have lived a peaceful life in first world countries tell a people who grew up in a concentration camp how to resist. The Palestinian people have tried to gain liberation via peaceful means but it has ended in dead civilians for them. Before anyone says it no Palestinians didn't have to accept extremely unfavourable ''peace deals''. The same way native Americans didn't have to accept ''peace deals'' proposed by the genocidal settler colonial state they were resisting. Absolutely. I have a Jewish friend & i consider him almost like family. It's Zionism, the actions of the Israeli government & their enablers which I detest.

Why is it right that he calls Hamas terrorists but not Israel? Israel is invading someone else’s lands and killing them… that is terrorism!

Right, we see a glimpse of what happened when they admitted it during the Tantura documentary outside of Palestinian sources and that's just one village. Also the Zionist terrorist groups that led to the creation of the state like Stern, Irgun, Lehi and Haganah formed into what we is now the IDF.

The ethno-religious colonial project in Palestine has miserably failed. The chosen people could not succeed where the master race failed.

People really need to research the history of Palestine and how it was basically invaded by what would be Israel, with the support of Britain and the United States. Also, Israel had done air strikes on Gaza for THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS two weeks before October 7th. 2023 was also had the highest recorded number of Palestinians killed by the IDF in the West Bank with 492 killed, including 120 Palestinian children. We talk so much about the 7th, but people either don't know or ignore the violence that Israel has been committing against Palestine FOR DECADES.

The comparison with Allied bombing doesn't stand, the allied were facing an equal force, and they didn't have the precision weapons available today. Israel( which is a nuclear state) claiming that it's existence might be in danger by a militia is simply Preposterous. Hamas is some 40k strong, did an incursion of a few hours within israel following a 17 years blockade, incursion still unexplainable given the means at israelis disposal...

I think your focus on October 7th is juvenile. Your audience is more sophisticated by now. We ALL know this started before October 7th. Get with it and stop appealing to the lowest common denominator. The common denominator has risen.

My views haven't changed because of Oct 7th. I've always considered Israel of apartheid crime. It's well documented. But all one has to do is listen to respected Israeli/Jewish historians and academics. Their insight into how Israeli policies hurt the people of Palestine in every possible dimension possible is horrendous.
