I was a drum major for a Scottish marching band that performed with 4 of the massed bands of the Royal Marines in Canada several years ago. Got to know their drum majors over the four performances. Really great guys, and the musical talent in that organization is unbelievably good. A cherished memory.
I joked every year that they would play Top Gun, the one year I don't go they play Top Gun Anthem. Still at least I can watch this amazing performance on repeat.

I am a proud Army grunt and Airborne Ranger, but this song, played by this astounding band will always be a favorite. A good buddy of mine was a trumpet player in his unit band, and he always wanted to transfer to 11B (Infantry) but music like this is what made us grunts want to fight on, and it will always be musicians like this that inspire us to carry on.

Just read an article that the U.S. military has top level talent in its bands and orchestras, because it’s hard for even elite players to get gigs in the shrinking private arena. Wondering if it’s the same in the UK, because this was top notch musicianship, execution, feel, etc.
That opening theme has always and will always send a shiver ( in a good way ) down my spine. I love Top Gun and will watch it any chance I get. Definitely one of my toe favorite movies with Tom Cruse. The other is Days of Thunder.
