THANK YOU - I’ve been searching for someone to demystify edges and it’s been so hard to find!
She's good. This is an expert in crochet and is the best instructor I've found on youtube.
This is the exact video I was looking for. Perfect explanation and now I know how to edge! 🙂
😂
That sounds so wrong for no reason..
I just finished my first ever crochet project... A beanie... By the time I reached 90% of it, yarn started to get over... And you know, at that point you don't wanna buy the same yarn again... So I fixer uppered the top of it... Alternate slip stitched it together (yarn got over along the middle... Thankfully had taken a long tail in the beginning, used that to slip stitch the rest)... I somehow made it work and I couldn't be more proud ☺... It's soooo pretty... I used the technique here because my rows were too short and I needed extra length ❤
Thank you for the tip about alternating for HDC edges! I haven't been able to find a video about where to insert the hook for those, so I just put the hook wherever I had 2 strands on top like you mentioned, and it seems to be turning out okay. Every other video I watched either didn't have normal HDC edges (where you chain 2 when turning), or it just said to do them like double stitches, but then my blanket kept looking wonky. You saved it! :D
Your voice is so comforting for some reason, i've already understood the technique but am letting the video play just to hear you explain it fully to me
So much excellent info in this video: both the count for how many stitches as well as the suggestion at the end to do a sc row before any other edging. Thank you so much for the great help!
great helpful video! i’ve always struggled with edges. I actually like that you accidentally go thru one loop or the wrong one.! It helps seeing mistakes as well as the correct way! thanks!
This is the perfect video! Clear explanation of the "why" behind the number of stitches to use. I posted a link on FB to a group called The Unravelled Mitten. Members there have commented how appreciative they are for your video.
Thanks!
So glad I watched this video! A huge help.
Hi Sara. Your demo cleared up my confusion. I look forward to trying this. You also have a wonderfully warm voice and it makes learning from you very enjoyable. Thank you! 😊
easy to follow tutorial - thanks for your time and patience
Omg thank you! I’ve been looking for instructions on how to do this for so long. Every one just says find spaces for x stitches across the side not rhyme or reason. I was convinced there was a logical way to do it. And there is!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. Will help me to finish my first Afghan!
Very helpful, thank you for giving clear,
understandable directions
Counting based on the turning stitch was so helpful. Thank you
Thank you so dang much. I've looked at so many borders I've wanted to try but I've always struggled figuring out how to get along the sides to be straight/neat/even, etc, yet every video I've watched completely skips the sides to meet us back at the start- watched your video just the once, tried it, and it finally clicked straight away. Thank you! This has been driving me mad. 😂
Thank you so so much for this! It's exactly what I was looking for!
Great tutorial! I actually like the inconsistencies with the different colored yarn. Makes the scarf and or whatever piece you’re crocheting look unusual. :)
I've been looking for a way to add width down the arm of my crochet sleeve. This is exactly what I needed, and it adds a small decorative trim that I wasn't expecting. Now the sleeve isn't tight. Thank you.
Thank you Sara, just what I needed... as. Self taught crocheter of 6 years, I am now trying to design some thing... I am at the edging stage & was struggling on how many sts to place down each side using htr(UK) rows... again THANK YOU 💐
Thank you for showing this!
Best explanation ever! Thank you!
Excellent! Thanks for tips to a problem I often face.
aw ya. this is exactly what i needed to learn. thank you for making this technique so easy to understand! :D
Thank you! Makes perfect sense!
Thank you so much for this video! I was really struggling today
Thanks!!! You made it so easy.
such a useful video, thank you very much!
So helpful, thank you!
I'm working along the edge of ribbing, so it was worked in back loops only. I'm still having a hard time getting the right stitch count but this helped, I think. I'll try again!
Two thumbs up. Thank you.
Thanks a lot l was very confused 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Thank you for thes very helpful video, because nobody talk about edges and especially the trick to keep same colour for the first raw. For instance before making shell. Thank you from a beginner hobbist
thank u so much!!
Thank you
A wiggle and a push! Phew I've been doing it right!
absolutely nailed this tutorial. I have a question tho, what do you think about continuing the edging instead of closing the last row, I'll just continue to work on the edge (if I'm using the same color). how do you propose I do that?
Thanks. I’m making a cardigan with a hood using front post, back post double crochet. It’s really thick and plush. I’m adding a border around the left panel, hood and right panel. When crocheting into the sides, I’m using your method, 2 DC in each side but it’s very loose and the hood doesn’t fit. Very loose. Would you advise 1 dc around or alternate between 1 and 2?
I have done a rug which is in treble and there is one chain at the end of each row where I carry a second colour up to the next row - would that be 3 stitches along the edge of each row?
I have rows of half double then double. So I know I need 2 for double but what about the half double ? I’m new to this..
Thsnk you!!! My crochet pieces are pretty neat (I work for it) but every time I see the borders becomes ugly and ruined the whole work😭
I know this tutorial is about edging, but what pattern and/or stitches did you use to make that swatch?
This is actually a sampler from our Crochet I class. So the swatch is made up of three different parts:
- a set of rows of single stitch
- a set of rows of half double stitches
- and a set of double stitches
So unfortunately, it's not a real pattern, per se, but hope that helps!
Does anyone know how to crochet perpendicular to an edge?
So helpful. Honestly, I've just been winging it, aka guessing. My borders have been coming out fine, but I felt they could be better.
Just a comment, sometimes you can't do a sc border in the same color as you've used multiple colors in the project.
