Man, I was just about to compare Jordan's steel guitar intro in Peruvian Skies to David Gilmour, then they go into Wish You Were Here between verses. What. A. Band!!
Thank you for putting this up. There was another one of these, but it glitched at various points. Dream Theater's largest crowd at this concert: 20,000 people!
Grande dream
The conclusion is that for you Mike WAS DT. With that statement you are undermining ALL the incredible hard work John, John, Jordan and James have put into this band. Think again...he was a big part of DT, but DT conitnues to be DT. I love Portnoy don't get me wrong.
Maybe at the time I was too emotional to express myself in a clarified way. Don't get me wrong, I saw they live with Mangini on drums, I listened to all these three records and my opinion is based on the difference of quality between the two eras. Petrucci to me as a musician is one of my greatest influences, Jordan Rudess is literally a wizard of keys, Myung is the tireless ultraheavyweight of DT sound, and of course James LaBrie, undoubtedly the best DT singer. Mangini is a monster of drums, he is truly amazing, but in my humble opinion the band without Mike Portnoy losses their identity. Portnoy wasn't just a great drummer or a composer, but a producer, lyricist, he was one major active force in the successful path that Dream Theater reached. That's why I said 'it's not Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy'.
2:06:43 I love it when anyone playing something this complex just pauses to scratch their head. It just makes me feel like I am a total cripple. Thank you Portnoy ;-)
Remember that this great concert ... think I was there, it was simply epic
Ben, no worries. Every one has a right to their right to one's opinion. I feel that MP's production and writing skills will be sorely missed. I haven't seen anything from MM that refute that. MP did an incredible amount of work behind the scene that greatly enhanced their on-stage presence and recording abilities. However, in all fairness, MM doesn't have the tenure that MP has with 20 plus years with the band. MM has only two recordings under his belt, self-tity Dream Theater and "Breaking the Forth Wall" whereas MP has over 20 recordings to claim. With that being said, MP certainly has the edge by which to ascertain the quality. Once Mangini has that kind of a resume then we can do a quality check. Petrucci was quoted that the drumming was tied to the guitarist as opposed to syncing with the bass player which makes the learning curb much more intense. So MM has to learn ALL the exact chops that MP used. Petrucci was firm about how critical that was. So, in my mind and in all fairness, let us see how MM stands up to the test of time. He's got a lot to prove before a truly fair comparison can be made. In my opinion, of course. Either way the band is incredible, the sound is phenomenal and they continue to woo the final result-intense gut-wrenching rock and roll. Let them play on for many more years to come and enjoy them regardless of who is behind the immense Tama drumkit. Good meeting you, Ben.
Douglas Haase Hey mein Freund Hase, the Drummer of DT is the best Drummer. No matter what is Name. He is in the best fuckin band of the world. And Mancini comes from Berklee! 2 of some best Drummers. Others are: Simon Philips, Gavin Harrison, Carl Palmer, Mike Minnemann, Mike Terrana and more and more......
Couldn't agree with you more mein freund. Even though I am of German descent, my German is very rusty. After my parents and grandparents passed away, over 20 years, there was no one to speak with any longer. I was never that good either. But it sure is nice having a German acquaintance.
I love what they did @32:05 playing very softly. Wow.. I have never heard them do that there in any of their other recordings of that song. AMAZING. I Miss Portnoy's Magic!

yo lloré con through her eyes cuando vinieron pal tour del scenes from a memory el 2019 :c
1:19:46 how come no one is talking about this 😅😅😭😂😂
@akatsukijonny
That was great
I was like What the Fuck. Thanks for pointing that out
It's apparently a Portnoy catchphrase
lol
Unfortunately people today don't understand serious Complicated music! This is the only band that can do that that→ there's no other! JP MPort JL JM & MM are one of the BEST EVER ...cant dispute- PERIOD
thats the hidden easter egg of In the Name of God
As far as I know, this was, until then, the biggest audience for DT as a leading band. Way to go Chile!
I LOVE how LaBrie changed into his Heavy Metal Outfit for the Train of Thought Songs
LaBrie in full form, what a difference, great show.

The way mike looked at Jordan was like ‘what the fuck??!!’

Still in 2021

26:55 I feel sorry of Petrucci hahahaha
Temazo.
Grande DT
1:43:00 wrong patch Jordan?
I think jordan got distracted right after MP fucked it up at 1:42:50
Daniel Pinzon yep!
Honestly the piano patch kinda sounded cooler lol
@@danielpinzon8345 I don't think Mr MP fucked that up. Have you listened about Poly-Metric time signatures? (I am just kidding :P )
1:47:20 to 1:47:30
jordy48 these bastard doesn't have any knowledge of that but always try to find out mistakes
Love this! Just wish the hi-hats were quieter and the snare was louder.
I really love this band (it's very important to me), but it's not Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy. I really miss these times.
Those were the best of times!
But he is back now!!!
2:06:43 I love it when anyone playing something this complex just pauses to scratch their head. It just makes me feel like I am a total cripple. Thank you Portnoy ;-)
Remember that this great concert ... think I was there, it was simply epic

The most complicated band and I feel heavenly listening to these guys...Love Dream Theater...2020

Gotta love Rudess.

Loved your comment! \m/
Neil Pratt also went there. That school really produced some fine musicians, didn't they?
I meant Neil Peart. Sorry. My phone plays tricks unless I catch it.😱
I love what they did @32:05 playing very softly. Wow.. I have never heard them do that there in any of their other recordings of that song. AMAZING. I Miss Portnoy's Magic!
