    Iconic and classic! Used to scare me as a child. But it brings back treasured memories of afternoons with my grandmother and my aunt.

    I don't remember anyone in my family being a big fan of this show, but the television in our household stayed on from early morning until bedtime nearly every day. These old themes left a comforting, LONG LASTING impression on me as a young child.

    See how much I knew..I did not know American soaps were aired in Canada..thanks for saving these..there are not many older episodes left for EON..erased by the networks or thrown away..such a shame Paul Taubman was just great!

    The closing credits are reminiscent of another Crime and Mystery classic "The Untouchables." And this music makes me want to do some serious Roller Rink Skating!😎☺B.W.

    The organ playing reminds me of bring a very small child in the latter 60s. I used to nap while mom watched the soaps and the organ music used to relax me and help me sleep.

      God bless, Sheri, what a lovely heartwarming memory to share. I was a die-hard fan of the soap and the smashing theme when I was all of 3 years old; I watched it while my mother got ready to go to work. ❤❤❤

    Thank you ever so much, Mr. Beckwith. A most informative read. I have been featured as a contributor to a book, where I share my memories of Edge, I've spoken to the American Popular Culture Association's National Conference and was a featured interviewee in a an issue of Mental Floss magazine. I was at the studio on its final day of taping. In July 2012, I fulfilled a 40 1/2 year promise to myself to visiting and being the guest speaking at the on-location shoot for the Keith Whitney/Jonah Lockwood storyline.

      that's so nice, thank you so much......after they switched to C and B theme, sometimes CBC would play warmly, organ theme, I know right! I thought they would have source tapes of the theme, I wrote them but they said no.....my Dad was an artist and was approached by them to do art for CBC, if that happened , I would have gone there to see if I could get the themes! That would have been exciting then living back in my home town of Toronto!

    Another wonderful reminder of Edge on CBC-Late in each episode, there was a PSA for the Unitarian Service Committee-Box 24,Sparks Street, Ottawa-Spokesperson was Lotta Hitch Manova. THIS I remember!

      We were lucky in Canada , because CBC had to take the CBS feed , sometimes the connection would fail and the EON graphic would go up and sometimes almost the whole theme would play.....but here it took a few years to get parts that weren't talked over, notice its a little different then what was played on CBS........special made version from Paul Taubman for CBC......one time no announcer at end saying tune in Mon to Fri for Edge , it originates with CBS.......I was lucky to catch it....to get this pieced together no v/o version....glad you liked it!

    Thanks Dave, I had to really cut it fine to get around ...'.The Edge of Night originates with CBS, ABC'. to make the theme with no voice over and instrumental. With the 'organ' theme and 'orchestrated' theme, they missed it once or twice saying the credit to the originating network and I got the themes at these times in order to to make them with no v-o. It was tricky but I am glad I was able to do it!

    I used to run home from school to watch EON! Too bad CBS didn't save the tapes - they could have made a fortune off the reruns like Dan Curtis did with 'Dark Shadows'.

    • @blozier2006
      @blozier2006 7 років тому +3

      To be honest, I don't think there were that many tapes to save, since for the vast majority of the CBS run, I believe it was produced live. Didn't start being prerecorded until a few months before the switch to ABC.

      i don't know if there is a Dave Taubman, but for 'The Edge of Night' *Paul* Taubman played the organ from 1956-1974; then following a musician's strike that eliminated organs from daytime (May 1974, except GH), PT returned with orchestrated recorded music from the show, which was used until mid-1976...

      Danny Hill That's right about Paul Taubman, the person above might have meant Paul but wrote Dave, maybe?

    • @dannyhill8797
      @dannyhill8797 10 років тому +1

      Mike Beckwith maybe..and it can be noted that Paul Taubman played the organ longer than any of the others - including Charles Paul, who provided a lot of live and recorded music to daytime..on EON, PT played the organ for an uninterrupted 18 years...

    • @MrMb58
      @MrMb58  10 років тому +3

      Danny Hill Danny, you know your stuff! I love that you and others are interested in 'The Edge of Night' and other classic soaps, my girlfriend says to this, oh not again! I'm glad you brought up Charles Paul, he is a genius! There is a man named...Lance Jackson...aka orgnplyr, look him up here on youtube and he plays Charles Paul's soap themes on his organ, nice job.

    • @dannyhill8797
      @dannyhill8797 10 років тому +1

      Mike Beckwith hope your girlfriend doesn't get mad, but..Paul Taubman holds the record for playing the organ the longest on any soap - but Charles Paul holds a record for consistency with one show: ATWT, for which he provided live (17y), then recorded, music (8y) for 25 years!...
