My VAN LIFE story (so far)

- This week, van life will step to the side.
I've been prioritizing travel over repairs, and it is finally time to send my beloved blue van into the shop. But, before she goes to the mechanic, she gets some last-minute design improvements while I reminisce on my van journey so far.
In April 2024 I bought this 1988 Chevrolet G30 SPORT VAN, already partially converted by previous owners. After a few small modifications, it was ready to hit the roads! Follow along as I continue to build out the van into the perfect weekender cabin on wheels!

Growing up, my dad had the exact same blue Chevy sport van as you. So many little things that I see in your videos that brings back a flood of memories to me, like the door pulls, the steering wheel, the center console, the little wings to flip the rear windows open, the handles to open the front windows, all the little details. I grew up camping in it in NH on the weekends. It’s so nostalgic to me. Thank you for sharing 🥲

Gonna be a lot of fun. I need a bed that is always made up and ready to go, wastes a ton of space, LOL
@@cabracove honestly if my van was a blank slate I think I would do the same thing! The previous owners built the van in this set up, and the electrical system is inside the benches so there’s not much I can change without seriously reworking everything!
@@loganrosemccarthy Understand. It's not worth it at this point. I have a 4x5 aluminum slide under the bed, but all that space is only accessible from the back. The upside is I can carry a ton of water and firewood. The downside is having my electrical system in the front wastes even more space. I'm mostly happy with it though. Putting a hi-top on it gained a lot of upper storage I still need to build, LOL

So cute ! A blue van is way better than a white one..my daughter is building out a medium sized school bus .. she’s almost done then driving here to visit. No place like Oregon to visit ❤

How do these newer Volkswagens do? Are they money pits or prettily realiable? I ask cause there’s a beautiful one for sale by me & im looking for one right now. But don’t know much about them? If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks and dosage travels.
I only rented the VW van for about a week, so I can’t speak to its long term reliability. In the short term it was great! I recommend bringing the van near you to a trusted mechanic to get their opinion. Best of luck :)
