Sumire did something Chihaya didn't and would never do. Stand up to Taichi's mom on Taichi's behalf. Chihaya and Arata have clear feelings for each other. While Taichi's feelings for Chihaya are practically toxic and in vain. He made the right choice of moving on, and a good person he should turn to is someone who could face his toxic, tiger mom. Some like Sumire. She has proven that her feelings are real and deep, not shallow.
