If his Canada was really showing, he would have said "curling anime". Which is more plausible than you might expect, as Japan is one of the dozen-ish nations to have Olympic level curling teams.
The Taichi you describe at 9:00 for whom everything comes easily is actually Komano's caricature of him. Episodes 2 and 3 make it clear that Taichi works harder than most people think.
Actually, at the first everything was easy and didnt care much about stuff. But he started to work harder just for karuta in highschool. He realized how impt chihaya and the actual sport is to him. So he works hard and improves a lot even if he fails sometimes.
@@kaitlingrace6176 It appears you've forgotten a couple moments in the grade school arc. In S1E2 at 17:25, after Chihaya complains that Taichi is such a good athlete and student, and Taichi proudly claims that he was born with it, Chihaya teases him because she knows he made flash cards to learn the 100 poems, and he begs her not to tell anyone because they'll think he's lame. And in S1E3 at 15:10, Harada tells Chihaya he's impressed that Taichi could get into a highly selective middle school while also playing karuta, and we get a shot of Taichi sleeping at a desk on top of study materials. The implication is clear: Taichi liked to project the image that it all came easy to him, but he actually worked hard to take advantage of his talent.
I finally watched this series not after watching your video (which I just did today and it was excellent btw) but just because you MADE a video about it. I had noticed it in passing before, but never committed to watching it until I saw you actually made this video about it and calling it "must watch." So, here I am now, back to let you know: you were right, and thank you.
Flipping love Chihayafuru. It was so hard back in high school to get my friends to watch it. Now, years later, they still haven't watched it but at least i know it's an amazing anime.
I plan to watch all three seasons for the first time once season 3 finishes. I've never watched any of it before, so it'll be all new. No wait for me. Yay. :)
It's so endearing you'll just have positive things to say about it, if you have some form of attention span cos I'm sure some will instantly be turned off thinking it'll be boring but it's totally not.
I mean, at this point, depending how long it takes you to watch a 24 episode season, you might be able to start already and finish after the last ep comes out!
And that musical motif brings a tear to my eye. Even in this damn video. Love that you chose to do one about one of my favorite shows of all time. Thank you!
The only reason why I have yet to watch season 3 is cause the person who *I* introduced to the show is away atm, and I want watch it all with them. *Cause dang it chihayafuru is amazing* ! Oh! Also, I am currently watching Eizouken as well. So your calls to watch these shows haven't fallen on deaf ears. At least concerning me lol Great job on the video and thumbnail, and for *taking 20min to talk about chihayafuru* (yes I watched all the way to the end ha!)
I gave Chihayafuru a go a shot a few months ago after watching a fall 2019 video. I loved it from the get go and managed to get a friend to watch it too. So great recommendation from you.
From the moment I started it last year with the confirmation of S3 to the long awaited release of S3 it truly is a beautiful anime both in its narrative/story/plot/character development through which I literally had to binge watch in 2 days(Even skipping one day's sleep). But there's always a BUT for every masterpiece in the making. The pink elephant in the room that is called Season 3 which everyone was expecting - All I gotta say is, while the story and the plot are still on point something is going wrong with Madhouse's sudden drop in animation a few episodes in which becomes more and more noticeable by every episode. So while like Arcada I do recommend Chihayafuru from the bottom of my heart, I've got to let everyone interested know not to suddenly be disappointed and continue it for its beautiful story~
the feel i get from Chihayafuru is similiar to the feel i get from Tsurune, or from Kono Oto Tomare! Nice, now you need to do a video about the other sports anime about an obscure game no one ever talks about that also focus heavily on character development and was released a decade before chihayafuru which also is a complete nightmare to explain to people. I'm of course talking about Hikaru no Go which no on else ever seem to care about, which forever will be one of my favorites...
"it's not a show about karuta. It's a show about the people who play karuta." That's a great summary. And you get committed to the characters and their stories.
This show is amazing and after watching it I want to play Karuta and being a person who does not speak a lick of Japanese but in doing some research I found a Swedish company Ogoola who makes many versions of Karuta including one with 100 English, American, Irish and Scottish poems I think it could be interesting to start a North American Karuta Collegiate league or something like it
You could do that, but there already are a handful of Karuta clubs around the US that play normal Karuta, and really the only Japanese requirement is to be able to read Hiragana. English Karuta never quite works that same way because the way kimari-ji work is just not suited to the phonetics of the English language very well.
I love hearing about thing a people are passionate about, way more than what is current. Have watched Season 1 but this video was a great reminder to catch up. I look forward to hearing more about what shows you love :-)
Adulting made me become less involved in watching anime however, chihayafuru is always that exception. Chihayafuru is a wonderful anime with beautiful character developments and it is making me also appreciate japanese literature. And most of all, albeit having an unrealistic MC, the rest of other characters are so relatable and wonderful that made me fall in love with the anime/manga more, especially TAICHI. He such a realistic, relatable character.
The theme is a recurring "every day life" theme. You can find it in Sailor Moon, Lovely Complex and many others slice of life/shojo type of shows. However, Shirobaku might indeed have borrowed A LITTLE TOO MUCH from the variation that Chihayafuru used.
Since GR didn't really explain the game, I will. It's poem poker. There's 100 poems, and you have to match the cards to complete a poem, just like a poker player trying to complete a full house. The only way to do that, is by memorizing all 100 poems. The rules are complicated, the concept is not.
Very good video! I'm so thankful for your hard work to give out really good anime recommendations. More people should know and watch the masterpiece that is Chihayafuru. The growth of the characters and how they change throughout the series, like you mentioned, is the best part of it. You always explain everything in detail, from plot to characters. Keep up with the good work! (By the way, the video quality is so good! Camera, editing, content, everything! Congrats!) (Also, Taichihaya
Chihayafuru is my favourite anime of all time, and one that is held so dear to my heart that even hearing the music from it brings me to tears immediately. The characters are so well-written, the art is beautiful, the story is heartfelt, and the romance is a perfect slow burn (although you are absolutely foolish for shipping Chihaya and Taichi when Arata is right there!). I gt into chihayafuru cuz i saw it in the 3rd anime season in anilist, which made me interested in season 1 and 2. I was not disappointed and gladly enjoyed the ride. (taichi plz win chihaya's heart)
The Manga creator actually played the game when she was in high school. She believes that those years are when you are able to give 200% off yourself to something. Before your adult life and its responsibilities kick in full. Chihayafuru is romance, slice of life and sports. After watching the first season, I realized I'd somehow gotten "tricked" into watching a sports anime. However, the characters are king. I loved the Mighty Ducks movie, and I'm a s far removed as one can get from liking hockey.
sounds similar to March Comes in like a lion, i didn't really know what was going on all the time in the Mahjong matches , but found the characters a nd story so enthralling. I think ill give Chihayafuru a try
For a brief moment, I believed you really were gonna say Chihaya was the top student. I expected it'd be Taichi, but if it had been Chihaya, that would've sold me on the series right there.
I watched this seven years ago and it was great, but my information was that it was canceled after the second season. And the information that a third season exist is awesome.
Not so much cancelled as "Caught up to the source material" at a time when few shows ever got a new season if they didn't keep going back to back. Thankfully, this has started to change in anime and gives hope for more of not just this, but other older shows that didn't finish for that reason!
ALSO chihayafuru has a good visual portrayal of the contrast of the characters physical features (and attractiveness), which makes it more realistic. They dont all look severly attractive, so I can actually tell if they look good or not, rather than having to discern the level of attractiveness of a character from the reactions of other characters which is very unimerssive.
Chihayafuru ios my favorite sports anime The main reason i have trouble recommending it to others isn't because of its sport of choice. It's something you very briefly touched upon, the shows decision to start with a flashback. This robs the series of narrative momentum right from the get go and it takes a third of the first season for it to gain it back. However this latest season is what convinced me of it being my favorite sports anime (SPOILERS FOR LATEST SEASON THREE BELOW) The fact that I am so heavily invested the latest Master/Queen tournament that has none of the lead characters in it just goes to show how much this show makes me care about every character from the leads to the bit players
Thank you, Tristan! I love this series so much and it's so funny (and heartwarming) for me to hear you talk about the series so highly because I remember back when I started it, it only seemed like Jean and I liked the series while the rest of you in Podtaku didn't want to give it a go. And now YOU'VE MADE A VIDEO TO GET PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S A MUST WATCH. It's been a great arc, Ark 😉, and I'm glad you (as well as many others) can also enjoy this gem of a series. - Stay Frosty ☺
So far I haven't seen any reason to watch this anime, but considering that I'm about to have a lot of time in the next 3-4 weeks, I might. Unless Arkada hints anything bad about Shirobako, then I won't. :P
I was surprised that I actually liked it. I was like " What the Hell is Karuta?". At first I felt for Arata because Taichi was a little prick. After season 3 my favorite characters are Taichi, Sumire, Haruka Inokuma, and Retro kun. Somehow I think Taichi will be the one to become Master before the chosen one Arata.
Am I first? Ok not going to do the norm............ but it's my first first time being first............... F#@k it FIRST. Mr Armada Sir I'm the first one to watch your video, love from the Caribbean.
I can't believe there are still people in the comments not going to give it a shot after watching a 20minute long video telling you it's a fucking masterpiece
I hope that we will get a season 4 and the English dubbed version is actually really good and Luci Christian is really good as the main female protagonists
Arkada, boldly going BACK TO THE FUTURE!!! ... or rather, plans to go in the future to the past... Edit: I hope you're happy now! I just went through all of season 2 and all of season 3 to this point, in just two days. 😵
Hello Arkada, I haven't been watching anime for about a year now and just came back to this channel to see what recommendations is here and I noticed that there is a review that I never seen on this channel yet. Its of a movie that has yet to be on the niche anime watchers radar. Of course what I'm talking about is The Sky Crawlers movie. I know only the movie and not of the novels that they originate from. But if you could feel so inclined as to give your take on it I would be grateful. ~Yours truly K Log

However this latest season is what convinced me of it being my favorite sports anime (SPOILERS FOR LATEST SEASON THREE BELOW)
The fact that I am so heavily invested the latest Master/Queen tournament that has none of the lead characters in it just goes to show how much this show makes me care about every character from the leads to the bit players
Shit why did I get so emotional
100 cards. Episodes are named after cards; 25 episodes per season. Once season 3 is over, there should be one more season.
Una obra de arte chihayafuru😍😍
I really need to get to season 2, I'll probably get to it after I finish Gintama, Symphogear, and Index.
Index is shiet
@@heinzkohl7739 I'm really more interested in Railgun, but I plan on going through the to aru anime as a whole
@@ngchloe4877 Railgun is cool, and the Accelerator related-stuff in general for sure.
Tbh it is one of the underated anime.
Here, here!
Is this show finally receiving the praise it deserves?
So far I haven't seen any reason to watch this anime, but considering that I'm about to have a lot of time in the next 3-4 weeks, I might. Unless Arkada hints anything bad about Shirobako, then I won't. :P
My favorites anime ever 😍
After the ending I just NEED another season
I was surprised that I actually liked it. I was like " What the Hell is Karuta?". At first I felt for Arata because Taichi was a little prick. After season 3 my favorite characters are Taichi, Sumire, Haruka Inokuma, and Retro kun. Somehow I think Taichi will be the one to become Master before the chosen one Arata.
What about the bear
The Canadian in him comes out 15:23
I hope that we will get a season 4 and the English dubbed version is actually really good and Luci Christian is really good as the main female protagonists
thanks for convincing me to watch shirobako
Arkada, boldly going BACK TO THE FUTURE!!! ... or rather, plans to go in the future to the past...
Edit: I hope you're happy now! I just went through all of season 2 and all of season 3 to this point, in just two days. 😵
One Awesome Anime!!!!!! 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 100% Recommended!!!
Do I see a review of 12 Kingdoms in our future? *crosses fingers*
Did the novels ever get finished ?????
