When I was a kid my grandfather taught me how to use a chum pot for winter flounder. We’d first go collect mussels on the sedge banks on the Barnegate Bay side of Island Beach State Park. We’d fill the chum pot with crushed muscles and send it to the bottom and use shelled mussels for bait just as you would use clam. Great way to catch winter flounder and I’m sure would be a good method for taug. Love your underwater footage!
Great video as always. Thanks for spending the time and money in creating these videos. I guess one thing you were doing differently was that you were trolling the jig to see if the fish would follow as well as slamming the jig down (free fall drop)
That was very interesting . I've caught tautog on quahogs, shrimp and any kind of crabs. Sea bass are very aggressive and a lot of the big ones I catch have whole lobsters in them. love these vids.
Thanks Bob I appreciate your hard work and passion for the sport of fishing. And also thanks for verifying the sinker gets there attention. I love to hit the weight on bottom wait a second or 2 and shake the bait. It doesn't work all the time but it does works. Last time I was on charter guy said I was showing off😉I don't usually say anything about that technique but what the heck. Keep up the good work👍(don't do this fishing a wreck,it will have the opposite effect.)
wow thank you so much so now we all have learned a lot about the lie that is Fish Gum and Gulp and FishBites when it comes to Blackfish now I look forward to the day when you test to find out if any darn species of fish wants gulp/ Bites/ gum thank you again
Nice video. I have tried numerous baits while jetty fishing, I always used shedder/peeler crabs when I can get them (fish cannot resist shedder crab) I usually try to get 2 or 3 different baits like- shedder crab, green crabs and sand fleas/mole crabs. I know tog can be very picky when it comes to bait and bait presentation. My experience with tog is they will some times go for clam- the belly/gut part and not bother with the clam tongue itself. I'm sold on using any type of live crab and if I can't get live crabs (shedder/green/Asian or sand fleas) I won't bother wasting my time trying for tog. As for the artificial bait like gulp/fishbites- seems to only work when going for fluke/seabass and kingfish/sea mullet or if it's used on a jig for predatory fish like fluke, weakfish, and red drum. It was very interesting to see an under water view of how tog react to different baits, thank you for doing this experiment and for making this video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can you try it with frozen green crabs and live green crabs? Because many times the green crabs are not used up and it is too wasteful. I will put them in the freezer and use them when needed. Is this possible?
I do it all the time and they work as well as fresh. I’ve tested it multiple times. I freeze them, and then break the legs off for chumming. Only thing is that they cut differently (kind of sloppy) when thawed. But it is worth it .
here is a new idea for your test pro cure as you probably know they come in many many "flavors'" so I will suggest the Menhadden,, and the other types which replicate the fish in our area if pro cure does not work I swear I will be so upset, when I think of how much I bought,, but just never had the chance to try them out
Also would like to see if crushed up frozen blue crab waist from a blue crab boil will make good chum. Also if using just the blue crab claw (just the claw--not the fore arm ) will work. Maybe drill a small hole in the claw for the hook to go thru. 3 samples -fresh claw, frozen, and cooked. The cooked one will be red-ish like the painted jigs that sell for an arm &leg...
Bob just want to say again that thanks to you I will not waste dozens of hours wondering why fish do not take all the different types of Fish Bites that I bought but have yet to use On the other hand , maybe there are some fish that will eat the Fish Bites I hope that you will run some tests and we shall all learn the truth
Some of the most interesting content on UA-cam right now. Thank you for posting!
Appreciate knowing the sinker thump doesn’t scare the fish, it actually brings them in out of curiosity. Thanks for the video.
I could watch these all day🐟🐟😁. best underwater video. nothing best crabs, chumming is a must.
It s really great to watch as a tog lover.
Thank you so much!! 👍
Thank you !

Super helpful and educational, thank you for sharing!
Great footage!! Mussels are so abundant and easy to get, they would make amazing chum. Smash it up and freeze it into blocks.
Excellent tutorial 👍🏿
Love these tests! Proved a few things
Thanks for the research Bob.
1 thing you seem to be doing different is moving the bait tray around more.
Great video very helpful thank you for the great content ❤
Bob great video wow.......btw where can I buy green crab for bait?
They don't usually sell it in the summers but you could try digging around and flipping rocks for them
@@BobAquatic Maybe Sand Fleas are more easier to use for bail in many ways also...appreciate you good luck

I’m curious how spider crabs will work for Tog
love these underwater videos bob, super educational! but I heard "nothing says no to fishbites" 😂
Great video I'm subscribing
Great video

Can you do live vs frozen Asian crabs? I always have left over that I discard after each trip. Just wondering if any difference between frozen vs live
Bob, according to old timers big sandworms make tog go crazy - ever tried those gulp sandworms?
I know you've caught tog on tipped jigs
Outstanding wow 👍
Maybe lures??

I would like to see a test with fidler crabs
Great video and will love to see you try rig up mussels to catch them. Save money by using them
Clams work better in the spring than in the fall
Lobster tail as a bait? This brings fishing to a new level.
Fish bites or fish gum won’t release scent if water temp under 55 degrees
Greta video
here is a new idea for your test
pro cure
as you probably know they come in many many "flavors'"
so I will suggest the Menhadden,, and the other types which replicate the fish in our area
if pro cure does not work I swear I will be so upset, when I think of how much I bought,, but just never had the chance to try them out
Cooked shrimp, nothing on them at all just steam them so the turn color
Next time you should use the whole snow crab 🦀
Would love to green vs Asian
buffet for fish

I never chum, brings in all the smalls and pests. Onlynuse greenies and once in a while sandworms in the spring. Everything else is a waste of time.
Bob
just want to say again that thanks to you

Fresh squid. Everything loves squid. I wonder!
lobster tail lol
Can you do asian 🦀 vs green 🦀
