    I’m almost 70 years old and I can’t begin to tell you how helpful this video was to me. In the last 15 years I’ve lost a lot of mobility, but seeing Mike go through this as Ian Instructed gave me a perfect example of the sequencing of backswing, weight shift, and then firing through impact with a solid transfer of weight through the impact area and into and through the follow through. Thanks for this excellent video.

    When you started with the speed training for Mikey and I was seeing his swing metrics I said this exact thing - he needs to get the technique down first, and just by doing that and hitting the ball more optimally he will gain ball speed and distance. THEN comes the additional club head speed. Good luck, Mikey, it's one thing to get comfortable with swing changes in the simulator, quite another to find yourself on the first tee of a tree-lined fairway! I say this as a 12 handicap with an out to in swing and inconsistent face control. I'll be working with a coach on a sim this winter as well!

    @ClubChampion @Mike. Something you may or may not be aware of is how long you get at the top of your backswing during an actual strike, vs when you are taking a practice swing and pausing at the top. When you get long, you fold the lead arm and get very steep. When you are just taking it to the top to get a feel, you keep the lead arm straight, at the top. In the video, you even take notice of it and correct it when you look back to look at your hand position at the top. Work on not getting so long and folding that lead arm, and it will help you stay on plane.

    Really positively surprised. Ian seems to have actually great eye for golf swing.
    I kinda wonder why this video didn't happen way earlier. 😊 It has been almost hard to watch Mike train to get more steeper in a way that actually hurt his swing.
    But this is pin point accurate prescription for Mike. This is going to help a lot.
    And Mike: Watch your swing on tape often when you practise. Remember that your feel and reality are two completely different things 😁
    Enjoy your journey!

    This all speaks to me loud and clear! I returned to golf in January this year after a 33 year hiatus, so being semi retired, I've put in a looooot of time at the range, on the course and lessons too. I've got a bad back, and left hip, so my pro has me working on a RSS setup, which works really well with the irons, but it's absolutely awful with the driver! I've gone from hitting it over 300 yrds and with a nice draw on occasion, to topping it, thinning it, low, short, awwwww, just all over the place! It's like I've gone right back to the start! This video has made me realise what I thought I knew already, I should have just stuck with how I was going, and the pro I've got isn't really for me, and I need someone who'll listen to me and not just want to give me huge change after change on every single lesson I get from him. I've known for months that getting those hands out is a real key, and I'm heading out tomorrow to get my driver back! Thank you for making the video, and I hope you get to scratch this season or next, Mikey!

I used the methods you two did to get my path back to IN to OUT but as my clubspeed went over 90mph, I started coming around to the OUT to IN side. Hopefully you'll have a part 2 to this video and can address the change in path as the speed increases and what causes that. Cheers!

    I went to a tee shot camp over the weekend, I have many of the same issues Mikey does. A main difference is I have a left shoulder injury, which makes it difficult for me to close my face to path at full speed. My coach had us swinging into a speed bag at half speed and making sure the driver toe was making contact with the bag. The end goal was a right start, and any curve to the left was good. Waiting to get my exercise program from TPI along with doing physical therapy on my shoulder and pilates for overall flexibility. I'm hoping to be up to 105-107 come Springtime. Average now is about 100, max was 102.x measured on Trackman.

    Get his Kinematic Sequence graph and very likely, his Thorax starts the downswing too early (possibly simultaneously with his lateral shift towards target) due to his limited top/bottom separation. If he drop his Right elbow down and keeping his connection with his right rib will promote a In-to-Out Path.

    I find that if I simply don’t allow myself to raise up with my posture in my back swing, and I’m appropriately distanced from the ball in my set up, i seem to hit the ball straight and don’t top it or chunk it. Simple as that! A good mental que for me is to think about how my knees/knee-bend feels at set up, and try to feel that same knee bend throughout the swing.
    If, for some reason I’m experiencing a day where everything seems to be just going wrong, then trying to feel like I’m only going half way in my back swing cures it. Intuitively, I do think these 2 things are related to the same issue, (raising up body posture in the back swing).

  • @jaycevs
    @jaycevs 8 місяців тому

    I know I am a little late, but are all these aspects or some transferring as well to irons? I have similar issues likely, hit irons relatively straight through 6 iron, then 4-5 have minimal gains in distance due to the same things we saw with the 4 iron here. I did check the position at the top that you did and the stretch was uncomfortable to get a 90 degree right elbow and turn without starting to bend, so I know I likely was doing to same things.

    As a fellow and long-time slicer I can sympathize with Mikey, and his swing issues. That last swing that appeared to draw was really a gear effect draw as his path was still out to in with a slightly open face. I think his main issue is that he starts the downswing with his shoulders opening, instead of the hands moving down and closer to the body. It's going to take time, but if he keeps spinning out then it will be very hard to get that in to out path.

    The biggest struggle I find with making these kinds of changes where I lengthen the back swing is its impact on my timing, sequence, balance, and tempo.

    • @MichaelM-to4sg
      @MichaelM-to4sg Рік тому

      I would say the change does not happen in one session. It will generally take 10-12 dedicated practice sessions just to create some cohesive on-plane motion. I assume you already know this.
      One of the biggest obstacles I see is learning how YOU learn best. Some folks can simply work 1 on 1 w/instructor, listen to feedback and implement the instruction. Most however need some visual support. I would suggest learning how best you learn, if you need that visual stimulation/support, ask your instructor to setup camera, I personally like 2 cameras; 1 straight on to show weight shift and rotation, a 2nd to show extension and on-plane club. Just learning how you most effectively learn will see dramatic difference in your ability to absorb and execute instruction

    In my opinion out to in is fine as long as the golfer is turning fully, that way the ball at least starts left and moves right. It seems many pros have shifted to a fade driver swing as well so fades aren't bad. If the sling is predictable then sling it!

    ** Whenever the shaft is level to the ground, it should be parallel to the target line. **
    This happens 4-5 times during a golf swing that is on plane, with a zero'd swing path. (depending on backswing length)
    Mikey gets it going out to in because that is where the shaft is pointing in the downswing, when the shaft is level to the ground coming into impact. It is pointing left of his target line.
    He is not manipulating the tool correctly in regards to shaft orientation during the swing. Maybe he is not aware of, or has forgotten, and is not applying this important concept.
    When the shaft orientation issue is corrected, the body motions will fall into place a lot easier too.
    Cheers Mikey.

    I looked at the launch conditions of the first 3 drives (baseline) and those had about 150mph ball speed on average and between 0 and 1 angle of attack, and based on Ping’s launch and spin optimal numbers table, launch and spin should have been higher - that is, before going the path of changing swing, maybe a different driver or driver configuration would have helped. Moreover, unless tee shots are a relative weakness in Mikey’s game, why is he wasting time on a swing change? Let him gain speed (110mph should be easy for him) and see where that gets him. If Mikey used arccos he would know much better where to allocate his time and effort, swing change does not seem to be the best option!

    Mikey is so fast that the camera can’t keep up with his swing! I’m seeing weird ghosting from the on swing camera. Anyone else or is it my TV?
