    Blooming right now in New England. Grows everywhere here! In the lawn, edge of woods, my shade garden path. grows in a big round circle in path - lovely plant. I let it grow everywhere unlike creeping charlie which chokes out everything in my gardens - constantly pulling that!

    I have self heal seeds that I want to start. I'm wondering what kind of soil yours are growing in, as they look so good.

    • @GrammaRosesHomestead
      @GrammaRosesHomestead  4 роки тому +1

      The predominant soil around here is clay, but it's growing in my lawn which doesn't get raked after being mowed. So, there's probably a layer of compost-rich top soil where it's growing. However, I have seen them growing on the roadside, so it's probably not too picky. There's probably a website somewhere that has the soil requirements. pfaf.org is usually a good place to look

    This is amazing! I was just out in my yard (near where I have mint growing) and I saw this lovely little low,growing plant that was just starting to bud. I had never noticed it before and as I was eating breakfast I was watching your video and this is the plant! Mine is low to the ground almost like a ground cover. Can I move it so we don't now over it?

    • @GrammaRosesHomestead
      @GrammaRosesHomestead  4 роки тому

      Isn't that amazing! Now you know, moving plants when they're actively growing is a bad idea, but if they're not going to survive otherwise, you can chance it. Just dig a hole for it in advance so it can go immediately back in the ground and be sure not to skimp on the size of the rootball. You want to disturb the roots as little as possible. Be sure to keep it well-watered, but don't drown it, until it begins to show signs of growth indicating that it has established itself in its new location. Good luck!

    • @GrammaRosesHomestead
      @GrammaRosesHomestead  4 роки тому +2

      You know, I don't know for sure. My chickens free range and as you see in the video, the self-heal has survived. Now, if it was planted in their run, it probably would be eaten to the ground.

    Hello Ms Rose, Interesting and great video.
    Would Self Heal be considered a bully in the garden like mint?
    Do the flowers hold the seeds when they dry?
    Thank you for sharing, much appreciated.😉💗

    • @GrammaRosesHomestead
      @GrammaRosesHomestead  4 роки тому +1

      It is not a bully in my garden, but it is invasive in some parts of the world. It depends on where you live. To be honest, I can't remember if the plant holds on to the seeds or not. It's been a while since I collected seeds from it. I think it does, for otherwise, I would have seedlings coming up in my flower beds from scattered seeds, and I don't.

      I can't say for certain since this video is almost 2 years old and I usually make notes from several different sources, but my favorite two resources are "The Herb Book" by John Lust and the website Plants for a Future. Maybe I should start including a bibliography in the discussion box below the video.

    Does Prunella grandiflora or Prunella pagoda have the same medicinal qualities as Prunella vulgaris???

    • @GrammaRosesHomestead
      @GrammaRosesHomestead  4 роки тому +1

      To be honest, I don't know. However, I did look online and couldn't find any reputable source that said any species of Prunella other than vulgaris had medicinal properties. Two sites I trust, pfaf.org and naturalmedicinalherbs.net, did not show any medicinal benefits for Prunella grandiflora (Pagoda is a variety of P. grandiflora.). It's always possible that more recent scientific studies have been done and their databases are not up to date.
