This year I dedicated part of my garden to wild medicinal plants. Once they flowered, my mullein plants were covered in honeybees every morning! For the longest time I did not see any honeybees on our land. I consider it a good deed to grow mullein, both for my body and for the honeybees. Probably helps my garden too :)
Mitch, I love your videos. They are so educational and your way of teaching is easy to comprehend. I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and sharing your knowledge and expertise.
Just learned of this stuff yesterday and I think it’s one of the most amazing plants out there now… it alleviates my cough for hours from a cold that’s been hanging on for a few days. God-send.
Mullein cough syrup is one of the most effective around. Pick the flowers and layer in a jar with alternating layers of sugar, seal lid and leave on the window sill for three weeks or until the texture turns to a light yellow Brown syrup. A teaspoon of the liquid quickly alleviates coughs. The taste is sweet and a taste that words cannot describe as the flavour is intensely amazing. We call Mullein bush toilet paper in Australia and it's also known as poor mans tobacco as it can be dried, broken up and smoked for lung disfunctions and as a give up smoking alternative. It doesn't have a strong flavour so mixing with a little dried peppermint adds some body to the flavour. They plant produces thousands of seeds and the secret to cultivating it is to sprinkle them on the top of soil never cover them as they will immediately go to hibernation. The seeds can hibernate for over 200 years. It's an important part of my garden as a medicinal plant. The uses are long and various.
I've been taking mullein tea for asthma for a while now. I haven't needed an inhaler in over 3 years. Besides that I just enjoy spotting the plant in remote areas, you can't miss em. Nice book by the way, I'm going to get a copy myself. Just subbed, thanks for the video!
Hi Mitch... I just found this video, and see that you have many more. Thanks so much for sharing your vast knowledge, I look forward to learning from you. Peace, Love, and Jesus... Niki
Mitch, I love, your love of nature! I garden in raised beds and last month when setting out my plants in the beds I noticed a weed that looked like it should be left alone. So I left it and planted my pepper and tomato plants beside it. I guess I retained a subconscious image from one of your videos because it looks just like the mullein you show in the first year example. The leaves are huge (well composted soil!).I could sure use a good bow drill. Thanks for all your vids. Love them.
Wasnt too bad, i collected from the plants up on the hill in the far corner of the parcel, i wouldnt collect from a roadside plant these i grabbed from were @ 1/2 acre away.
This is an excellent series, Mitch. I have loved all three of these and am very much looking forward to more of them. I especially appreciate the explanation of the practical methodology you use (in the yarrow video). Thanks for posting.
I bought mullein in a herb shop. never used it. I didnt know what to use it for but I drank it in tea and noticed it melting the oil in my throat (smoking)
i have seen this plant in an area i hunt, never knew what it was, but wow! have looked at several other channels that have mentioned other qualities as well ! thanks
Mitch, I like many others really appreciate your videos, the detail you put into making them surly makes proves that your videos among the very best I have seen anywhere. keep up the good work, I know that the rewards will certainly follow. Best wishes from Yorkshire in the UK.
Thank you for this great video. I am fairly new to medicinal herb usage and find it very fascinating. Mullen will be left to grow, :0) ,on my property.
I moved into a new place a couple of years ago. The first Spring/Summer I noticed a plant that looked a bit like lambs ear, then this past spring, a stalk started shooting up from it, with yellow flowers. I'd never seen lambs ear do that so I started searching for what this interesting plant was. Found out it's a Mullein Plant. Right now, June 25, 2020, it's about 8 feet tall. Will this plant now die and never grow back? I saw a video on how to make a walking stick out of the stalk which I'd like to do but I didn't want to pull up the root because I want it to grow again next year. Will it come back if I don't cut it down? Or do they only live two years? What about sowing the seeds, do you have any advice on how to do that. I'd like to get several growing in my yard at the same time. Thank you for any and all advice you can give.
Awesome video again, man! Love how thorough you are with the book. First time I saw mullein it actually freaked me out. It was a monster with like footlong leaves. I felt like I was in Jurassic Park. haha. Great vid, man. Talk soon. Dave
I have a massive (wide and tall) tree in my back yard with those bright yellow flowers all over it with the same leaves but much smaller, I'm in Australia.
I think the best part of your videos is that you're proving that people can find these plants and trees in some of the most accessible locations. Quick question: What kind of oil would you recommend to soak the flowers in when used for ear drops?
Nativesurvival I would disagree about olive oil. Olive oil is antimicrobial, so it is my go-to for ear drops when my kids have troubles. I don't know if sunflower has any medicinal properties itself, but olive oil does.
www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/oils/sunflower-oil.html "Some of the health benefits of sunflower oil include its ability to improve heart health, boost energy, strengthen the immune system, improve your skin health, prevent cancer, lower cholesterol, protect against asthma, and reduce inflammation."
Thanks bro! ya the book/knowledge is key, thats awesome about the Prehistoric Mullein haha it looks ancient doesnt it? ive had that feeling before too but cant place what caused it right now.. love that border of reality stuff.. strong feelings that link with things..
Mitch, I remember watching this a long time ago, I have planted some Mullein in a raised garden, I am looking for good advice on when to pick the harvest for tea, smoking and flowers for cough medicine. So If I understand you, after the second year, they have lost their usefulness for medicinal purposes, so I should just pull them after the two year mark? Thanks For any help, Lee
I sure wish I could send you a pic or two because I think I have found mullein here but mine was in nice rich soil and was HUGE and has the wooly leaves and looks just like this but much larger.
Love Your video intro. Love how connected you are with nature, our natural environment. I wish we had more people like you on earth. Thank you for sharing this. Amazing knowledge. I subbed for sure. ;) Jadu
HAHA indeed, things would slow down to the real pace underneath everything..the pace made by nature for each individual place ; ) thanks for the kind words
A few months ago I had some kind of lung infection, the cough was just not going away , I thought I was going to need a steroid or antibiotic after about 2-3 weeks of my cough not going away , I decided to try some mullein leaf tea , drank two cups one day and in the morning on the next day my lungs were healed , amazing stuff and it grows all over the place where I live in NE Washington
hey dave! Was just wondering if you can smoke the leaves of the mullein plant? I know you smoked the flowers but where i live right behind my house there is alot of mullein but none have the flowers yet. Thanks!
someone please awnser this question? pause video at 6:02. would i get sick from eating most of those flowers in a day? mixed with a few other things of course. lol. i definately wouldnt unless there were an abundance.
I've got some mild spring asthma and I have heard that smoking mullein can help with that. Can I just purchase it dried on the internet or at my local smoke shop (I've seen a sign out front advertising that they have mullein) and smoke it alone, or do I have to mix it with something else? Also, how much should be smoked at a time? I'd be using a pipe to smoke it.
You can buy online i have but yeah the quality of depends on the sellers i would recommend mixing it as it can be quite strong alone. you could also just make a tea with it haha that also works
Are there any mullein lookalikes? I have a "mullien" plant near me and it has the popcorn looking thing on top but the leaves go up to it on the stem instead of being around the bad of the stem. Could this be another plant?
I know you mentioned they have a two year life cycle. If I took a plant and transplanted it into my yard, will it only last those two years and I would need to replant it? Or would it continue to regrow?
good vid bro. any idea where i can find info on different types of mullein? eithet we dont hsve it down south or it looks totaly different. still not sure
Great video! My daughter gets sick in the winter but she hates tea. How can I use the plant to remove her congestion? As a tincture possibly? And how many drops of Mullein oil should i place in my 4 year old daughters ear for ear infections? Please reply, you're video is extra helpful!
We avoid harvesting our mullein that is too close to the highways...highway people spray the area with pesticides. But no problem, as one our pure-bloods owns a remote 20 acre property that we harvest every year...zero pesticides.

How much tea per day for help with asthma?
Marcus A. Brown
Pro tip: you can watch movies on Kaldrostream. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Wallace Torin definitely, been watching on KaldroStream for months myself :)
@Wallace Torin Yea, I've been watching on kaldrostream for months myself :)

Great video thanks
Just found 7ft mullein growing in my backyard. I have terrible asthma and severe allergies. I'm excited to try some things with it
I have a massive (wide and tall) tree in my back yard with those bright yellow flowers all over it with the same leaves but much smaller, I'm in Australia.
Heading out with my bandana to collect Mullein!
I think the best part of your videos is that you're proving that people can find these plants and trees in some of the most accessible locations. Quick question: What kind of oil would you recommend to soak the flowers in when used for ear drops?
thin oil like sunflower instead of olive.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Mitch, once again another great and informative video!
Like your video but where can I get one of those books on medicinal plant
The flowers will help when headaches as well.
How do you use them for that? Eat them? Smoke them? A tea?
What herb(s) do you recommend to cleanse from parasites?
I’m going to the greenhouse now and hopefully get a few plants
Also makes a helluva toilet paper substitute as well.
What is the other book that you mentioned you have that talks about Mullein use for back pain?
HAHA indeed, things would slow down to the real pace underneath everything..the pace made by nature for each individual place ; )
thanks for the kind words
Ha! I have one of these in my backyard, it's HUGE! It's 2.34m high and the flower itself is almost 50cm long!
I mix a little mullein in my kinnikinnick, along with willow bark and bear root.
No, leaves are good too!
hey dave! Was just wondering if you can smoke the leaves of the mullein plant? I know you smoked the flowers but where i live right behind my house there is alot of mullein but none have the flowers yet. Thanks!
yup
Ya i cant do that when i can pick up any large dead leaf haha its too awesome for so many other things like bedding, medicine, smoking etc
Can you take the leaves from the first-year plant?
Mitch what are the different ways of taking Mullen for medicinal
someone please awnser this question? pause video at 6:02. would i get sick from eating most of those flowers in a day? mixed with a few other things of course. lol. i definately wouldnt unless there were an abundance.

I always see it around railroad tracks.
well put. that's exactly what it was like. i was like "holy crap! what the hell is this plant?"" hahaha.
Are there any mullein lookalikes? I have a "mullien" plant near me and it has the popcorn looking thing on top but the leaves go up to it on the stem instead of being around the bad of the stem. Could this be another plant?
Its mullein
I know you mentioned they have a two year life cycle. If I took a plant and transplanted it into my yard, will it only last those two years and I would need to replant it? Or would it continue to regrow?
The mullein has THOUSANDS of seeds; you need never to be without anymore!
but yes, the plant will die after 2 years
hahahahaha "holy crap! where did this come from? does it know im here? should i be worried?...." lmao!

Whats the harvest season North East
To collect flowers?

Thanks Dave, im good, glad you made it.

Great video! My daughter gets sick in the winter but she hates tea. How can I use the plant to remove her congestion? As a tincture possibly? And how many drops of Mullein oil should i place in my 4 year old daughters ear for ear infections? Please reply, you're video is extra helpful!
Kool-aid with the decoction
sounds like between mullien and comfrey you are about set for most ailments
About a mile or so from my house there is a roadside area that literally has a thousand or more mullein plants.
Man you got a red beard like mine Cool!! red man!
What do you have to do to smoke the leaves
Dry em and smoke
Drinking, Poultice, Smoking.
We avoid harvesting our mullein that is too close to the highways...highway people spray the area with pesticides. But no problem, as one our pure-bloods owns a remote 20 acre property that we harvest every year...zero pesticides.
