A Video Identification Guide To Edible & Medicinal Plants - Pt. 2

- Hey guys welcome to the second season of identification videos on edible and medicinal plants. In this video there are 13 different plants some are medicinal, some are edible, and one is a poisonous look a like. We will cover in depth the identification features of these plants as well as some of their uses and cautions; from the poison hemlock to the thujone in yarrow and sanguinarine in blood root you're sure to learn something in this video.
A lot of these plants are multi use, meaning you can use them for food or medicine and many grow all over the United States and can be found quite easily as a few are considered weeds in some places. However others like the toothwort and bloodroot only occur in the eastern woodlands of the U.S. and in some cases are best left alone.
The plants in this video are; Yarrow, Queen Anne's Lace, Poison Hemlock, Canadian Sanicle, Canadian Wood Nettle, White Pine, Blood Root, Toothwort, Carolina Spring Beauty, Bull Thistle, Puttyroot, Dock, and Mint.

Of all the many videos I've watched about wild plants, yours is the only one that shows the plants up close & personal. Your videos gives me the conference to pick & use wild plants. I like the way in which you present each plant in a complete presentation , slowly giving each identification in a clear picture . Too many get in a rush and the pictures are vague and often as not they are distorted ! Thanks for sharing .
Thank you sooo much for this video. There are so many videos about wild edibles, but they don't show you a closer look of the plant which will be impossible to identify it. You show us the entire plant describing the leaves, stem, flowers ect. You even show us the plant that looks similar to it, so that we can avoid the poisonous look a like.You also give us the uses for the plants!. Thank you so much for this information. I love these videos most my great grandmother's used lot these herbs this was medicine I have native American ancestors that taught me a lot they lived to be 80""plus lot my great aunts are, 90 plus grew up near woods and the river. Lot stuff in my yard can be very useful. I buy herbal books. My ancestors didn't run to Dr they learned and used each generation taught them and they had green thumbs. So I'm grateful since many are getting older and dying.. These videos help was blessed to know great great grandparents.. Who taught me a lot. Proud my heritage. Neita j.

My Cherokee great grandma lived to be 103 and she was a prairie woman
Potato also removes warts. Since I was told you have to cut the potato and rub the starchy juice on to remove the wart and another said you rub the wart with the greenish skin of the potato. It worked better than over the counter stuff we tried😊 Love your channel!❤️👍💕

I heard if you take the juice from a potato fruit and rub it on a wart, that will remove it.

@@hairrum Irish potato’s work. It may be some of the others may work as well as they are all from the nightshade family, but some plants have stronger properties than others even though they are in the same family.

Thank you so much for this....I used to watch the ground a lot and also just admired what I used to see, but it is getting rarer to see such wonderful plants that people seem to have forgotten their usage for....and have somehow destroyed or put them away as useless plants....thank you again for reminding me of them.
In Alaska, yarrow is white, cream, light pink, lavender. It is an astringent and externally mixed with butter & eggs (also called toad flax )

There is a plant known as Rabbit Tobacco, that may be the same one you mentioned.
It is harvested in the fall and dried. The leaves are smoked in a corncob pipe and smoke blown out nose.
Or a tea can be made.
Good for respiratory problems.
Scientific name "pseudognaphium obtusifolium."

Time is now, we have been guinea pigs for a long time. HFCS being put into nearly every prepared food for example 😜😰

The only type of medicine I do is a Ibuprofen and that's for a occasion headache which isn't often. We use natural remedies! The side effects from medication isn't worth it.

Tonight I putted some yarrow into my cocoa, because I have been eating meat, and, therefore, need to alkalinize. Yarrow, I have read, is alkaline-forming.

Great videos!! I just got into gardening a few years ago, and really enjoy it. Now I'm just starting to learn about foraging, and it's crazy all the different plants that could come in handy, and of course all the look a likes that you have to be careful of, lol. Sure wish I had someone with your knowledge to hike around with and learn all the different plants, it's so interesting!!

Nice work here! I do have a recommendation:
When comparing (for beginners especially) somewhat visually close plants, such as the Yarrow, Queen Anne’s Lace, and poison Hemlock... and even, briefly, Hemlock to show the differences between the small plant versus the tree. Seen next to a ruler and side by side, leaf, stem, and pictures of their flowers with them, the differences will be made even more obvious.
If you cannot see the differences from this video, may I suggest you not forage.
@@onekerri1 I agree that foraging aught to wait until one is well versed, and that is why I recommend the side by side comparisons. In order to get to that point of understanding and recognition, this way is a positive start.
Many people benefit and like to learn from and side by side visuals, and anything that helps open the eyes of people is welcome in my opinion. We all learn in different ways and I use many approaches in order to match the style of learning of the person with whom I am working.

Good info here, Yes I used dandelion milk to kill all my warts, had at least 3 dozen on hands and arms. After one season they were completely done after constant use application, worked great as I used it only.

Some haven't awakened to the fact they need it and won't until it's too late. Your knowledge shows a person who has not wasted their mind or time. Thank you so much for this beautifully detailed video. I tend to graze outside because I prefer wild plants to cultivated ones. I think I may have been eating yarrow leaves for years without knowing what it was. I also use it as a wonderful herbal seasoning. Lots of plants growing in fields are infinitely more exiting and nutritious than anything in the store.
