No what had happened was the Kerry Packer series. Our reserved players on the same level of Viv Richards were ousted from international cricket due to their participation in the series. So automatically those reserved players that would have sustained West Indies cricket for those coming decades were lost. Also we are not a wealthy first world cricketing region. We don't have the funding, science, training facilities and our fist class cricket at test and one day levels are not on the same level as in England, Australia, India etc.

The downfall of West Indies cricket is due largely in part to poor administration going back decades. There was no succession planning.
