Star child’s redesign looks like what the concept artists wanted him to look like but someone decided that they knew better and we ended up with what we got, and you made him look more alien which is important Roka has so much character now and that pose is perfect But damn is Lennox my favorite, you made him look like an actual alien instead of someone in cosplay and the western cowboy vibes are now actually visible instead of just the boots Wonderful job
Thank you so much for liking what I did! Lennox definitely was the one I wanted to redraw the most, with him just probably being the most dripless sci fi protagonist that ever was conceived. I am really proud of how he turned out and reading comments like yours just make me so happy :)
I think for the first OG design I kinda like. He has this gorilla esq vibe of very calm older almost paternal energy But in crisis flys into a rage. His design is very round so its not intimidating by normal design philosophy but his red face makes him undeniably daunting and uncomfortable to look at. His game play could have communicated this "rage mode" alot better because it just doesn't show through in his animations at all. When I think about it they were probably going for a Winston Overwatch vibe with this character but failed ultimately. In your redesign you made him far less organic and kinda less cybernetic aswell? I understand why you make his shape language sharper to communicate the more aggressive personality the same with the red. It gives him a more cocky and assertive look at me energy which I do like! Though giving him just like rippling reflective abs was a- decision... The grey hair and utilitarian combat pants makes me think he might be a war vet of some kind. EXTRA COOL communicating backstory like that subtly is awesome. something the OG design doesn't really do at all. While I would say maybe he should maybe look a little more cybernetic and a little less red. And hell maybe lean further into the military inspirations. Interestingly where the OG design uses colour to make me look at his face specifically. Your redesign gives a "EYES ON ME" almost unignorable THREAT APROCHING QUICKLY quality. I have no clue what is going on with the second design? The whole idea around the design and the character feels really really half baked to me?? I cant say much its that lack luster. Even with a redesign I just think the characters concept stinks a little? Like why is there a psychic using a rocket launcher floating around in like a this admittedly silly militaristic space suit????????? I do like the Psycho Mantis idea its probably the best direction to take the design but with such a shoddy foundational idea for the design it is kinda doomed to fail. Ok so the final design. I do also kinda like this one, His posture, clothing, colors, tell me he's unserious and cocky. He reads like he has too much faith in his abilities/ thinks he's the shit. The yellow is loud and attention seeking, the hair cut and beard tell me he makes bad life decisions. This guy definitely fucks around but its hard to tell if he ever gets around to finding out. Im a sucker for cowboy aesthetics and stretching the definition of "cowboy" but he could really have done with just a touch more details leaning in the direction. Like it suggests cowboy without actually saying it. And Im confused why not just go all in and say cowboy?? Definitely should have made him more Star Lord inspired but they were trying to do something different here and honestly I respect it. With your redesign you definitely made him look more "protagonisty", younger with more adventurous vibe. Not super strong cowboy vibes still but more traditional in execution. Where the OG design looks like he regularly wakes up regretting what he did the night before. Your design looks like he makes a habit causing trouble and more often than not getting away with it. He is young and could use some tips with self grooming still but he makes up for it with rugged boyish charm.
Wow, fixing Concord's characters is really becoming a thing and I'm learning so much about character design as a result. So actually something good has come of this.
Really fun designs! The first being my favorite as an intergalactic yeti Vs.. What ever the first one was trying to be. Drax's uncle I guess? My personal taste suggests the second character would have a helmet styled after a house fly now that you've helped teach me what their abilities are through visuals alone.
Emari doesn't need a redesign. She just needs a backstory where she wanted to cosplay as her favorite legally distinct demon slayer. In her commitment to details, she accidentally made armor and a gun that is suitable for combat.
The second one's (i think legendary skin) with the red cape should have been the default. It's looks so much more interesting. Also, they should have called her something like hornet. She gives off those vibes
As with all concord redesign videos so far, I think you improved on the originals. Your Starchild was excellent, Lennox imho would need changes to his personality and clothes rather than big overhauls, though I like your take. As for Roka, I would have kept the spandex suit (one of her strong points), but added flying implements like a jet pack to her upper body. My biggest suggestion to sell her aerial abilities while keeping the helmet would be to stylize the helmet like an insect‘s head. A gas mask or pilot’s breathing tube thingy already looks likens fly‘s proboscis, just make the visor like two big spherical compound eyes, and - boom - immediate flying association and a unique look. You could even round it all off nicely and make it a bit friendlier than the average gas mask to keep a hint at her femininity. I think her design is one of the easiest to save, it has some good ideas besides the huge mistakes like not indicating her aerial skills at all. Hope this topic stays alive until I‘m back at the computer in winter, I‘d love to give it a shot.
Just watched the necromancer season 1 Teris, and one I would recommend/suggest is Barony dlc necromancer. Be a skeleton that summons one skeleton warrior. As you progress with yours and its levels, you can summon more.
The redesigns are better but a few things: This might be from my end but the colors feel..faded. I'm not sure why. that is why I don't like Starchild's redesign so much even though it makes more sense than the original. Then for Lennox, the cape feels unnecessary. Like I think he would look better without the cape or if he must have one, it should clash a little less with the orange (it's too light colored) But yeah I like the logic you used with the designs. They feel more inspired than what we got
Ah? Yeah I used more Pastelle like colors instead of making everything pop pretty bright. I get what you mean though. And yeah, the cape might be unnecessary but I just love capes lmao.
That‘s totally fair. I honestly only really found out about it’s inspirations after I was already way too deep into production of this video. I would have tried implementing a bit more of that, if I’d have known better. So thank you for bringing that up!
I love all of these designs but i have a few bits of feed back. 1. Star-child's designs reflects his gameplay perfectly but i think i just want something in his design to hint towards a softness i guess, like if his character is supposed to be a shy guy to show that in little small props, glasses tucked into a belt, a stuffed toy hanging off of his gun, or a tattoo that just says Mom or the like, i understand that he's a big berserker but i kind of would also love the design to show that this is a guy who also has your back and is a protector 2. Roka, we have VERY limited info on Roka but from what i can see, she's anti-establishment so i love the creepy psychic angle but i think it would say more about her character if you added minor punk elements to the design, spray paint around the suit, the rocket launcher being something that obviously belonged to the government but was stolen and kit bashed, or the helmet having her own sense of individuality would be cool things to express the characterization we already have 3. Last, no notes on lennox, i think you took his direction i made the best version of what the team in concord was going for, but i have an idea for a newish direction, instead of a simple space cowboy, it's a security guard wanting to be a cowboy, a cheap security badge worn with pride and modified to say sheriff, a security uniform that had some extra things added like the cowboy boots, with the poncho being more of something that looks like you got it from a novelty gift shop, just a space man, working a regular job who leaves it all for the idea of the great expanse and old ideas of media cowboys, a pretender living up to an image that never really was but exeplifiing the best qualities from that character archetype none the less, i think that would be a cool direction with the concept, though i think you pushed the original design direction to the best it will get
You did great job. Even though these characters are unsalvageable, you managed to give them a personality, I can see an identity. These characters are flawed to their core (you can write a whole essay), no matter how many times artists redesign these, they will always look “flawed”. Btw your starchild concept is so cool ahhh!!! Reminds me of like fantasy creatures meet space…like an orc alien. This is so cool. And I think that’s why I’m more pissed with the original game. You have a sci-fi setting…ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES, but no, just make generic humans in generic costumes. ITS SPACE! Do robots! Do weird aliens! Do space armors, do cybernetics, do cool guns. The only thing they did was…big guy alien, green man, a lady, a lady with sniper, an old lady, a cat lady, a robot lady, a big lady, a man, a man but cooler, lady in plastic, another man, a space suit…
As a person with 0 studies in arts, I like your Starchild's redesign a lot. I'm a sucker for ogres / onis. Roka was one of the designs, alongside Starchild's, that made me think "you got so close to a good-looking design". The helmet is too big, the suit SEEMS to try to be skin tight but trying it's dammed hardest to not make it sexy (which is perfectly fair), and it resulted into having something that does not resemble a piece of clothing. It's not a space suit, it's not pilot gear, it's not armor showing her figure... it's not even a swimsuit, it's just a... something made out of latex with a dumbass helmet. If the helmet had a different design and size that would've been a start for me. I much prefer your redesign, holy hell, that's exactly what I wanted. Lennox doesn't have a cowboy vest, he has a dammed life jacket, and they made lizardpeople look boring somehow. The redesign gives me a "Billy The Kid" vibe, which is gud.
If Lennox is a space cowboy, where is his space cowboy hat? He should have a hat. For Starchild I prefer the old belt, it looks more like what some strongmen use. It would also create a break in the character that can replace the red belly, the character feels a bit too red right now, even the teeth are red. No notes on Roka. Are you one of the people that played the game?
Can't say the Star Child one was better cause I think neither really show off much character asied from angry berserk. But the other two were quite good. I'd have liked to see you keep the whole "bodysuit female" part of the rocket girl maybe since that seemed to be what they were going for? But this was good too.
I was really liking the starchild design until you made him majority red. I think majority blue would've looked much better, almost make him look like a yeti. Or at least more matching with the hair colour. Your roka design is super interesting and unique. The only thing i'll say is the roka helmet and chest piece don't quite look very functional. The lenox design is great and nothing I would change except for broader shoulders and upper body but I think thats more just a proportions error rather than design choice.
It's difficult to tell, but I think that in your redesign of Lennox both of his revolvers are holstered (not missing) and both positioned with the hilts pointed back. Judging by what I've seen of this game (this video), Lennox shoots only with his right hand, so his left holster should be flipped so that he can draw from it with his shootin' hand. That's why in his original design the left holster leans forward, while the right holster is more vertical. Alternatively, consider putting the second holster on his back. Usually a quicker draw if you're holstering one to draw the other (speaking from imagination, not experience). Shorter distance, plus you can cock it with your left hand while positioning it. It's also sneakier if your opponent is unaware of the second gun. Alternatively alternatively, he could have *three* guns (and a boot knife).
Soooo, either you have an amazing talent for character design that you're able to redo things so easily, or the Concord artists were BAD. I like your designs, they look like how the characters should have looked from the start.
Thank you a lot. I definitely do not want to shame the artists though. But rather the people that approved the final designs over the way better looking things we saw in the concept art.
your first draft designs blow the actual characters out of the water immediately. Their just.. so horridly corporate and WASHED OUT of any creativity. you gave new life to the frankly abominable wastes of talent..
A thing you didn't mention much that Concord also fails at, the lack of poses is chronic. Poses can say a lot about the character, and you naturally do dramatic poses in your redesigns, but the artist on concord (with many years of experince from call of duty and destiny) didn't think to add any dramatic poses
Helo im sorry for offtop comment, but i guess any comment is good for boosting popularity of videos? Anyway. I REALLY love your necromancer games series. About that- 👀 First of all thank you so much for saying this. It genuinely means so much to me when people actually enjoy what I do here. And you don’t have to worry! I actually streamed the game on here a few weeks ago and I am planning to feature it in the next episode!
I might be overreacting but dear lord! The developer designs are crime against art! The more people re-designing these atrocious "designs" the better the world become.
I think it‘s really sad because I genuinely do believe a lot of the designs are just bad because of them having made the game realistic. In the animated trailers, a lot of the characters look way better simply because of them looking more stylized.
DEI being used as an excuse for why this game died is kinda sad. Because overwatch is a diverse cast. its not about dei. Its about bad design. and this video shows that really well.
Thank you for this comment. It is genuinely frustrating to see so many people run around and try to claim the game failed because of a diverse cast or whatever.
@@blank5237 there was a LOT that was going wrong with why this game failed. It's never one thing that caused it to fail, and anyone trying to tell you it failed either only because of "diversity and DEI" or only because of "right wing grifters and trolls" are both people you can happily ignore because neither have anything of value to say
I wish you did this other character, who literally just doesn’t fit the setting of the game. She has this like dark cloak and prayer beads? This is a game thats trying to invoke 80s campy scifi, why is she dressed like a dark priest? Her design literally makes no sense and she looks even more out of place than anyone else Anyways, the designs look great. They look like Ben 10 Characters in the best way. He actually looks like an alien and not a human that got splashed with green paint!
That was my goal.

Her design literally makes no sense and she looks even more out of place than anyone else
Anyways, the designs look great. They look like Ben 10 Characters in the best way. They’re just perfect sci-fi people
u should get a job at hot topic
Is that supposed to be a compliment or insult?😭
