You talk loss without talking worth. Sony is worth 119 billion. They won the console wars and had great exclusives that you mentioned early in the video. They’ll be fine. This isn’t Microsoft.
No new Jak & Daxter No new Days Gone No new Resistance No new Sly Cooper No new Killzone No new SOCOM No new Infamous No new Prototype No new Bloodbourne $400 million smackaroos down the crapper...
“Future proof their business model” is one of the most ludicrous shifts ever made. Sony was future proof with a line-up of critically and commercially acclaimed games. All they have to do is keep that up. If Sony had announced 12 new single player games with a mix of new and old IPs they’d be riding a gravy train compared to what is happening currently. Make good games and you win. Win on PC, win on console, win on handheld, win as a phone game, win as an arcade unit. Just make good games and the rest will flow.
To be fair, though, Sony has been in a couple tight financial situations in recent years. They're in cost cutting mode right now because they have profit margin targets to hit that they are struggling to get to.
I can understand the idea, maintaning that good will is gonna eventually become quite the hassle because Play Station needs to keep upgraping the cost of their games to make them more grandiose, and eventually the investors are gonna get annoyed that Play Station doesn't make a sustaineable profit unless those games have +10M units sold. That is something you can count with a GTA, but not with a new IP from Sony... Of course, Sony didn't have to gamble with life-service, they could simply need to have more faith in their smaller games in order to give Sony's Big Developers more time to cook without feeling pressure to be super succesful... But that is when the investors wanting a life-service changed things...
And let's not forget Helldivers II was almost doomed due to Sony's actions. The devs had to put the game on life support so they can fix not only the things they messed up, but also revert the damage done by Sony and the PSN. It's a miracle they were able to pull of a recovery like this, I'm happy to see the game doing well again.
i wonder how long it takes for the majority of people to figure out that the problem with video games, inflation, gas prices, healthcare and politics are all the same problem.
@@Megalania1 Pay him no mind, people who think one political party is to blame have yet to learn about how the world works. Whether your're a left wing or right wing, you're still voting for the same bird.
Do not be distracted. Fact is SONY is once again requiring PSN account for God of War on PC. A SINGLE PLAYER GAME requiring PC players to sign in and be online to play a SINGLE PLAYER GAME..
I've been informed that if you "sail the high seas" then you can bypass this requirement... I'm planning to test this soon once my download completes...
@@PolumbiusTheThird yes, playstation is known to have several data breaches; and psn isnt available in several countries, making the game unplayable there
Another one of Sony's multibillion dollar disaster is Bungie. They spent like 4 billion to acquire it. They hoped Destiny 2 would sell well but didn't. They hope Marathon will sell well just like Concord they think Marathon is future of PS, but it won't sell. They cancelled another one of Bungie's own project. They canceled TLOU multi-player on which Bungie helped. So why tf did they even acquire Bungie
@@MasouShizuka It's still a lot of money to Sony. Sony is a multi-billion dollar conglomerate sure, but 4 billion is a 25th or so of Sony's 100+ billion wealth. It's a lot of money.
They acquired Bungie for 3.6B and what they were after was their live service knowledge, Destiny and Marathon were obviously a factor but not the primary reason, Jim Ryan had this idea that they could utilise that expertise and dominate the market and make a lot of money, what they didn't realize was that Bungie were lucky, in Destiny they had a franchise that had excellent moment to moment gameplay and that one thing more than anything is why it's still around 10 years later, the recent stories about Bungie that have been doing the rounds have shown that it's now obvious that at the executive level they were a joke, their own devs were telling them how the company and the game were being run wouldn't work. Have a look for the Justin Truman presentation at GDC 2022, he works for Bungie and gave a talk about how to run a successful live service game, it was eye opening for all the wrong reasons.
Jesus christ, it didn't tank. Why tf do people keep repeating this bs? Even if people quit playing TODAY, it would still be a massive success for them.
Helldivers was the first and it's going to be the last game that I'll buy from sony... After the rug pull and baning the purchase of the game in my country, and leaving me with the only copy of a game from my friend group that is intended to be played with friends... Wasted 40$ on nothing...
I mean, it's still a great game but yeah. I second this. Even though I'm from mexico (not a banned country), Helldivers 2 will be the last sony game I'll ever buy. Not even micro transactions for HD2 (even though I really want to buy a warbond lmao)
Get a refund, they issued them for all of you guys who refused to choose another country for the account. If you don't got your 40$ it's because you haven't claimed the refund.
What a waste. For that money, they could have started an indie division, take on dozens of promising early access games and gave them the boost to make them into a real, high quality product. The executives all chased after that 1 big number, that one big tree that they missed the forest.
I honestly dont want a AAA studio to try and buy indie studios because the execs are gonna force those studios to do things that the indie team doesnt want to do
God, no. Just no. This is how EA started. Tons of amazing studios become an unrecognizable slop under EA. Remember when Maxis, PopCap Games and DICE made good games? Where are they now?
Too bad they can't do something similar, like buy dead IP's like "the day before" and actually make it into the game it was promised to be. Everyone had it on their wishlist until it turned out to be a scam. There is a lot of potential (I think) in fixing abandoned games like this that people obviously WANTED. But.... that's not going to happen.
Sony’s downfall was set in stone the second they moved to the United States. it’s no coincidence Nintendo is the only company of the 3 sticking to their formula and killing it in the exclusives department
Sony is still and always has been killing it with their first party single player games. The live service is the dumpster fire, their first party SP games are still almost always amazing
Yes I agree with you 100%. I still remember when they announced the changes and the progressive shift to focus on the western market. I told myself at the time that it would be the end of the sony I loved.
At this point, one has got to ask: "Do they even want to have money?" If yes, they wouldn't do something like this. Its like they've lost their instinct for survival and sense of danger. Cows only need to touch an electric fence once to know that an electric fence hurts. Gaming companies have lost their ability to learn and think.
I kinda miss those games. A friend of mine asked to help him get all of them, so we ate BK for a week. He just wanted to farm achievement points. I enjoyed them for the comedy of a fast food company commissioning decently fun shovelware.
I enjoy the older games myself especially games like starcraft broodwar and Diablo 2 lords of destruction. Those two games will always hold a special place in my heart. Honestly In the last 15-20 years I haven't found any games besides the Witcher 3 that has drawn me in like the old school games did. Mostly everything I play I lose interest in within the first couple hours
Last of Us and Horizon were the warning signs When they keep focusing on remaking, re-releasing, and spinning off these 2 "popular" series over and over and over again it already showed they were caring more for shareholders than gamers
I love Horizon but I am so mad it's now being remade. I watched a bit of the remake trailer and there is no difference! It already was a good looking game on ps4! What a waste of time.
@@angel_of_rust it was not prepackaged with every ps4 or even every ps4, dont think horizon even came out til later in ps4 life cycle, i got a ps4 new and didnt get horizon with it. Never had an interest in horizon so i never got it.
Its just narcissism doing it's thing. Notice how many of these terrible shows/films/games seem to be created for the creator's own ego and self-insert, not a product with an end consumer in mind. They seem to have forgotten that they also need to have a business, which used to be selling escapist entertainment and not their personal fan fiction.
Remember when all the feedback from Concord's open beta was dismissed as "white noise"? And then the game shut down in less than a month while Deadlock is doing conga lines on its grave? Maybe I'm a bad person, but I do get some satisfaction out of watching narcissists reap what they sow.
It's political propaganda driven by people higher up the food chain. It's not about making money, it's about being allowed to make money and so having to check all boxes. There is no "free market".
You say live service in itself isn't a problem, but I disagree. The AAA market is oversaturated with games that demand my undivided attention and a revenue stream from me. I feel one of the many reasons BG3 resonates with so many is because it isn't doing FOMO. No limited time monetization, no content vault, no "you had to be there" events. Helldivers 2 is serviceable because while it might have that "you had to be there" element with the evolving story, warbonds not expiring means I don't feel pressured to play, I come and go as I feel. Contrast to Destiny 2, the one live service I've allowed myself to fall into, where im scrambling to complete the season pass for Episode: Echoes because I put it off for so long, and it's dominating my free time.
Honestly the gaming industry would be in such a better place if the big gaming companies just stayed in their lanes and did what they do best. Sony/Playstation: Highly polished, cinematic single player experiences. Microsoft/Xbox: Competitive online multiplayer shooters Nintendo: Party living room games and long standing first-party titles (Mario, LoZ, Animal Crossing, etc.) Valve, Epic Games, etc. (the PC space): indie games, MMOs, and international Esports.
Some big UA-camrs are saying that helldivers has turned itself around back into an golden age, others say the buffs didn’t bring the corpse back. It’s weird that opinions seem mixed on the games success when the result is clear
UA-camrs and their typical over exaggerations… The game is slowly but surely making a comeback. That’s it. Obviously its player count is mediocre, but Arrowhead is finally committed to listen to fans.
Live-service games are supposed to be like agriculture: you water the seeds you plant, you feed the livestock you house, and you sell the products that both means produce. Sony has been expecting all the product sales and none of the maintenance and care required to give people what they want.
I disagree. They aren't blindfolded throwing darts. They are just super arrogant, believe they are infallible and that their customers will buy whatever they do. Their hubris is an an all time high this era.
To be fair to them, their hubris was built up by a gullible consumer base that let them get away with this stuff for years. Only recently have companies truly started to see significant push back for their predatory practices.
the whole AAA industry is bound and determined to burn to the ground.... as a wise warden once said...."if that's the way they want it....well they'll get it!" reference is the prison warden in Cool Hand Luke, Paul Newman, George Kennedy and Strother Martin were awesome in it [reference comes from Strother Martin's character the captain]
When you said Said "Bungie's Marathon" I couldn't help but laugh. The original Bungie is gone. The bungie we have now is just a shell and the people working inside it are taking an IP they know nothing about and they're probably going to ruin it.
So let me get this straight, they killed: Jak & Daxter, Days Gone, Resistance, Sly Cooper, Killzone, SOCOM, Infamous, Prototype, Bloodbourne, they shot helldivers 2 in a shed, and worst of all, they murdered gravity rush just to make garbage. Who's making these absolutely stupid decisions??
One of the most glaring problems with all of Sony's live-service attempts is the upfront cost. With a live-service you're essentially baiting someone onto a treadmill... Now imagine if you went to the gym, paid your entrance fee, then went over to the treadmills to get some cardio in and found out you needed to pay extra to use them... Nobody would touch them, because you can walk or run wherever you want, you only use the gyms treadmills because they're there and they're free and you're at the gym anyway. Both Genshin and Fortnite figured this out years, "free to play", because the goal is to get the person running on the treadmill, not to monetize the treadmill itself.
@@ReedSolutions yeah they got me on that one, was prepared for the long run, but then they gave me the sexy protein shake earlier than i was prepared for and had to dip my wallet in
My methaphorical take on free to play games is that we are both trying to scam each other so it balances out. They are trying to scam me out of money by having over priced microtransactions but thats okay because I am trying to scam them back by trying to get a fun game for free. If I feel it is worth it after playing the free version then I might go okay you got me I enjoy the game and am willing to pay to enjoy it more. This pay to enter and pay to get the full experience demands that I respect the game makers time by paying upfront but then don't respect my time by constantly interrupting me to try and nickle and dime me. If you want me to respect your time then respect my time. If you want don't plan on respecting my time by offering time savers, fomo and overpriced microtransactions then don't demand I respect your time by paying upfront.
@Lore-mc7zw it definitely wasn't. Xbox had already been doing it for years at that point. I wasn't happy about it either, but it definitely didnt start some kind of downfall for Sony. They just wanted more money. And we all gave it to them
Keeping Helldivers 2 restricted makes no sense from the perspective of a company that wants to make money. Its up to 13% to 15% of its hypewave playerbase now, and lets just be honest - a 100 person studio realistically couldnt keep a 450k hypewave going. But our player numbers could easily be 20% of that hypewave number if over a hundred more countries could purchase the game.
I feel like the prolonged restrictions has less to do with Sony, and more to do with Steam. After Sony pulled that stunt, requiring PSN for people who were already playing the game and don't have access to PSN, Steam had to shell out a LOT of money in refunds. I expect that Steam won't make the game available in those areas unless Sony makes guarantees that they won't do that again. We all know Sony won't make a promise like that since they REALLY want to use their successful platforms to bring consumers into the Sony ecosystem.
I did not realize 90% of the player base left and did not come back after Sony pulled that helldivers trick, and I can't believe they didn't issue the 180 countries access after they withdrew their PSN requirements. I don't think they have suffered enough yet
Literally all Sony had to do was recreate what they did with the PS3 era: Repeat graphical upgrades, repeat exclusives both third and first party, and repeat having fun with the console wars and innovating where it needed to be
All of these developers/publishers are still looking for the magic of GTA Online. That was an accident of happy proportions for Rockstar. They had no idea it would become so huge.
imagine remastering Horizon Zero Dawn - A 7/10 game that still looks FINE and is even playable on PS5 - but leaving Bloodborne with it's horrible vignetting and 30fps cap.
Well Horizon sold better in one year then bb did with like ten years of fan boys crying for attention…. So horizon not even trying by your claim is still more enjoyable and entertaining sting then bb.
@@powerfist1340bruh sales is one thing they care about. Numbers and graphs they can show at investors meeting. "Look at this red line, that is how much players we forced in to PSN! Now imagine profits when we roll out our new required subscription service! *seals clap*"
This statement: "Sales doesn't equal quality. If it did Michael Bays Transformers is the best movie ever made" is just stupid. Both Horizon games are very high quality. The most popular, GTA5 is a very high-quality game. The Last Of Us is a popular title with a great story, amazing characters, and a great graphics design. Red Dead Redemption 2 is even more popular. Transformers can't even stand aside these productions. Michael Bay's Transformers is just fcuking stupid and boring. Bloodborne is a totally different animal than Horizon. It had very high scores. It is popular, but the game has bare-bones graphics and the story is just bad. The entire thing of this game is deep fighting mechanics and improving the character. The game has 9/10 or 10 out of 10 because of how fights are designed and played. There is a metric tonne of games which shine on multiple levels like story, gameplay, novelty, graphics, humour, fun, and attention to detail. It all means nothing because of the fighting mechanics in BB which gives it 10/10. Imagine Bloodborne scores are higher than Witcher 3, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, Disco Elysium or NieR Automata. Witcher 3 sold more than 7 times as many copies as Bloodborne. Witcher is a vastly superior game. The same goes for Red Dead Redemption 2. Way more quality and value than Bloodborne. These are not stupid but nice-looking games. Both sold multiple times more copies than Bloodborne.
I feel like conversations among the Concord developers went something like... "Players don't like the character art or general aesthetic." "Can we change that?" "No, we'd have to spend another $50 million updating pre-rendered cutscenes and rewriting character dialogue." "Maybe they'll change their minds if the gameplay is really sick." "Oh, totally, let's go with that." But it turns out the gameplay wasn't quite sick enough (being a 2016 rehash).
"Maybe players will appreciate matches if we draw them out with stupidly slow movement speed." "Maybe players will like this healer if we make his hitbox as big as a tank!" "We can totally make players love these characters, all we have to do is FORCE THEM to play EVERYONE!" "Okay, maybe players don't like them NOW, but give us a couple of months to release a ton of static conversations about what Rip-off Draxx's favorite Burrito is!" "What do you mean we don't even have 700 players at launch?" Firewalk was genuinely delusional, there's simply no other way to explain it.
You give them too much credit. It's well known that activists made Concord. They made the game DEI ugly on purpose and shut down any other opinion on the issue.
I think the problem is the people running these giant companies have zero idea how actual people function or how games should work to be enjoyable (and therefore successful). Bobby Kotick wasn't unique, he was just visible. His kind of mentality is ultra pervasive in large companies, gaming related or not. The consumer is a number on a spreadsheet, not an actual person. The game is just a commoditized product, not a creative work. Does it check the boxes on what they've analyzed as other successful games? If so then it should be successful right? Right? Turns out when capitalistic greed outweighs everything else you don't get particularly good art.
I've seen a couple comments saying this is a problem with capitalism inherently. While capitalism has it's flaws, I actually think this particular situation is an example of capitalism working correctly! Think about it. They're failing. They're making bad products, and they're failing _because of it_. Our world is not fair or easy, but I'm glad, that for once, this part is working the way it's supposed to.
Well, failure isn't ever quite total and equal throughout a system of rules. You're looking at the successful part of capitalism. How about the part that causes a lot of issues? The penny pinching that leads to online games like mmos with poor moderation, out of control bots, and features only ever being added to storefronts in a subscription game? Or the part where final say and all of the gains for success as well as complete ownership of IP goes to suits who then squander it on out of touch initiatives yet never get cut for their personal failures like with bungie? I bring these things up not because capitalism bad but because every rule set will run into human errors and abuses and we damn well don't seem to be adjusting and moderating these known issues whatsoever. The rules do not discourage the exploitation forces like activision will always pursue.
The main issue with these corporations is that they think for short term earnings. They never stop to think that doing healthy business practices, selling a good product, honing a healthy work environment will be beneficial in the long run. They only want as much profit in the shortest amount of time possible.
@@soulstalker4624 lots of companies are valuing that. The problem you're pointing out isn't an issue with capitalism, it is an issue with corporatism and corporate cronyism, where executives get their bag and leave behind a broken company
@@soulstalker4624And they will fail because of it. The market has openly spoken witn Concord and if they do not see it still, then its a crash for them.
Yes I saw that and I agree, the free market will adjust. Concord failed because in the free market of ideas, no one wants it. That’s why it’s so critical to these DEI types that they infiltrate every aspect of gaming because they want to make it so there is no free market of games- where all games are touched by their mind virus.
Marvel Snap was a good game at start, but now is becoming a cheap cash-grab p2w game. The majority of players are already discontent and soon they will break.
When I saw their first and only ad for it, I knew that it was going to shift away from their message of not being p2w at best or an outright lie at worst. At least they apparently went with the former. Still never played it because basically all mobile games are mostly or just cash-grabs.
I spend like 10 dollars a month or less. And i hit infinite rank every month and I'm able to get the cards I want . And still compete. Marvel snap is no where near p2w as other games. Not at all.
Ive never spent a dollar on that game and i still have a lot of fun ive played since release. Its all cosmetic, you cant even use a card unless you unlock it through normal gameplay. I doubt youve actually played it
@carkindozin I'll give you that, I have not played it, nor do I want to. I played mobile games back when they didn't realize how hard they could milk their player base at every possible opportunity and get away with it, where the most scummy thing they did was have a tiny banner ad at the top or bottom. I played Pixel Gun 3d back when it launched. I have the og Facebook login reward to prove it, too! I saw that game fall to the cash grab/grind-fest it is now. With the exception of a scant few small games like Underhand or Card Thief, I hold no respect for mobile games nor their creators. No amount of "free-to-play" this or popular IP that or "best mobile blah blah blah" will EVER convince me to give them a chance, much less actually trust what they say. I have a lot of vitriol for anything and everything about the mobile game market. I'm going to get some rest now and try to get myself in a better mood. If you want to hear more from my view towards mobile games, let me know, and assuming UA-cam decides to give me a notification, I'll try to give a more detailed explanation as to why I hate the mobile game market with a burning passion.
The Last of Us 2 was also a bit of an issue. The story pissed A LOT of people off with how they killed of Joel immediately. We got none of what we loved about the first game and got another "zombies are a problem but humanity are the real monsters" story that every shitty modern zombie movie throws at us. Even if they didn't shift full focus towards live-service games, I don't know if the single player experiences would have been as good as what we used to get.
I expected joel to die, but not like that. One of the biggest things that made tlou1 so good, was joel and ellies relationship. They soon snatched that away. Neil druckman said, the first game was about love, the second about hate. Well he got the hate, both barrels from fans. Another prick out of touch with fans, or so arrogant he doesnt care!
It's funny because The Last of Us PT II does not bring your point across. It's not the best example because they could also have played it safe and delivered a boring and rehashed sequel which it seems what everyone on the internet wanted but they didn't do that. Like it or not, The Last of Us PT II have one of the most unique stories in gaming, here we are talking about it 4 years later. The game was good and unique. Point is, this is not a creative problem. The pandering to shareholders is on a all-time high and everything is remade or uninspiring not because there's no creativity on the studios but because leadership is not doing it's job.
Spending ONE WHOLE SILLY BILLY on people's self insert games that will get to the end stages without onboarding or a store. Concord was 6 years in development and had no onboarding on store, because what mattered was "what if this action character... ME?" And all the HR hags clapped.
I'm honestly not sure why companies are so stupid as to fail to realise that the live service winners are all either fundamentally good games or the very few that managed to capture lightning in a bottle and successfully rode that wave into becoming fundamentally good games.
Sony has a habit of shooting themselves in the foot when they make a good game. Helldivers 2 Don't get me started on what happened to Concord. What the fuck were they doing for 7.5 years to have Sony dump more money into the game to "get it ready and out the door"
@@voidimperial1179at the point of shit storm starting, HD2 already lost 80% of the audience. Sony shenanigans didn't help, obviously, but main problem was game breaking bugs being rampant, devs obsessed with nerfs to the point that nothing felt fun to play and general lack of understanding on the devs part on how their game works, despite extensive feedback from passionate community. BlackRock marketing strat is goind strong! Can't sell diversity? "Force behaviors!" Still does not work? Lobby the law that ensures it! Damn, I love the internet. There is a video of BlackRock CEO openly saying all that. Yet people are still buffeled by all this sudden onset of token characters and incopetence.
Larry Fink is one of the worst human beings to walk this earth. Change my mind. I've seen the video you're mentioning, of him sitting on stage at the WEF. The fact that ESG is literally created by Blackrock and ESG is basically the financial incentive to create DEI departments in order to obtain investors means that Larry Fink is the power player behind DEI everywhere.
Diversity is literally the last reason any of this failed. It's like entering a sedan into a Formula 1 race and saying "We lost because the car was painted brown". Trying to enter an oversaturated market with $40 games when all of the other games in the genre are free to play and more well established is just stupid. The design of the characters was terrible, even for the straight white male characters it was ugly and boring, so diversity is not the problem. If you really care about video games getting better and are not just a grifter looking for internet clout from right wing morons, drop the DEI stuff and look at the real reasons games are bad. falling for DEI bait is going to allow games companies to keep making bad games
you paid a random guy on youtube to trash talk companies who will never see this video...smh. who cares if u dnt like the games dnt buy them. i dont and i dont buy them.
CEOs have ONE main concern - making more money. Every CEO wants their company to have a Fortnite, Call Of Duty, or Destiny 2. Until they change that 'profit over quality' thing over to include customer satisfaction, company longevity, and employee health they will continue to make crap much of the time. CEOs should NEVER have creative input. They're executives, that should be FACILITATING the creation of product, executives love to hop on successful trends, but they not creatives and shouldn't be involved in those type of decisions... stick to the money, emails, and spreadsheet guys, leave the game creation to the creatives.
Not entirely accurate: They want to make more money RIGHT NOW. That last part is the problem. They care not for long term viability and profits, they want all the money, right now. Future be damned. Because that quarterly report has to look good for investors.
Put those last two together and you still don’t have Fortnight. Fortnight is “fuck you” levels of big, it’s bigger than most mobile games. At this point only Tetris is a bigger game than Fortnight.
Sony doesn’t get one major aspect about live service games: they fight with each other way more than offline titles. While a single player game like God of War and Bloodborne can exist cooperatively, live service, especially in the age of battle passes, become a choice. If you release 12 games with battle passes, each one will get less purchases overall

The "sequel" to demon's souls is dark souls. Atlus was involved with FROM on DeS and its kind of surprising they were able to get the rights to remake it. DeS originally didn't get a sequel because of the split of FROM from Atlus. Thats why Dark Souls is called as such instead of Demon Souls 2
The worst part about these token representation is that it conditions people to think that whenever a black person is a main character, it’s gonna be this type of hollow characterization, and that makes me sad as a black person
I've personally had thoughts about this too - There are a **lot** of people in this comment section that start losing it at the mere mention of a character not being straight, and I'm wondering how many mild annoyances have funneled people down the pipeline of hatred from the overall conversation.
I hear ya. This is why its important we take control of our image instead passively being scapegoats for these soulless gaming companies. Enough is enough.
@@TheRedstonian It's not mild annoyances, it's just straight up racism or homophobia. I've played many games where the white straight male protagonist was downright disgustingly bad written, where it felt forced into this "he's a badass, all women want him" narative, comments about women and sexualization left and right. That didn't make me immediatly assume that a game with a white dude mc is bad. Let's be honest, it's not small annoyances that make these people hate on these games, otherwise we'd all hate games with white male main characters, because of how many bad games with badly written white straight male characters there are. But you know it's just a bad game and move on. Why don't they do the same? We both know the answer. Tell me why I'm playing Wolfenstein the new order, and there's like a 5 minutes sex scene I need to watch? And I'm talking about pretty detailed sex scene (not porn, but still). Isn't that also pandering to the straight male fantasy? Something that brings NOTHING to the plot. We could've seen their relationship the same with an implied sex scene, where you see them kissing and then they wake up in bed naked (something like TLOU2, you see Ellie and Dina starting to make out and then you just get a fast forward to them talking after the deed or something). And again, that didn't make me hate games where the protagonist is a straight dude. Sure, there have been games with badly written black characters, or lgbt characters. Just like good games with well written black characters or lgbt characters. Let's not give the racists or homophobes any excuses, yeah? Edit: I searched up the Wolfenstein The New Order scene just in case I might've been wrong about it. Nope, my point still stands. To sum it up: the main character (William) and Anya (his love interest) are a thing. She asks him if he has a moment, then the screen moves to the side (fast forwarded) to a guy next to a room, and you can hear Anya's sounds. We get inside the laundry room, and you legit see William thrusting into her (don't see his dick or anything, but still), and we see that for like 5 seconds. The plot relevance that NEEDED this sex scene? Well, just so William can say "I want this. Always" and Anya can say "We will", and then they have to leave. But this is deemed as normal, because it panders to the straight male audience. There's absolutely no reason to get this scene, we could've seen them kissing and saying the exact same stuff. Why do we have to see William's ass and see him thrusting into her? Not for the plot that's for sure. But because it's not about a black person, or LGBT person, people don't care. If it were 2 men instead... oh boy... i can already see the thousands of incels storming in saying "PANDERING! WOKE GAME!"
Stuffing black characters and other minorities into shitty media just justifies the people that think all diversity bad which leads to pinning the blame on it instead of CEO's that don't understand what normal people find fun.
@@spookyclaws5350having a sex scene in a gory 18+ game is not pandering to straight males, if a sex scene is disturbing you this much you shouldn’t be playing a rated M game. Also most mc in old games are white because the studios were almost exclusively made up of white people and even then they delivered better diverse characters. No one has an issue with diverse characters people only have an issue when it’s forced.
Playstation execs are like Mr. Krabs forgetting that the krabby patty is what his core business is. Instead they are running around with money signs for eyes looking at everything that could potentially make them more money. Ignoring what the customers actually wanted.
Imagine throwing all that money away on not only a live service, but a hero shooter at that. No way Concord was worth that much. Most of that money was pocketed. No hero shooter would ever need that much cash to make. That genre is so bottom-of-the-barrel, it's actually below said barrel because Sony scratched at the bottom so much, they broke through and dug into the earth.
So that's why there is so much talk around Concord, I had no idea it had such a high budget, I was wondering why there was suddenly so much talk about what looked like a random indie game failing that nobody had heard about before. Was there no marketing outside of maybe within the Playstation store or something?
The problem is that GTA6 has a reported development budget of 250m, just to make it and that’s the most expensive game ever made we can actually get some verified numbers for. But none of the talking heads seems to bring this up. Which tells us none of them did any research when talking about Concord, which being into question how honest their being about the 400M development alone.
True. Concord had less than 200m budget. It was not 100m because of the production of the animated stories and marketing campaign. Entire Cyberpunk cost was 318m. There is nothing to compare here. There was no 400m. That info is barely a rumour.

PlayStation for me wasn't the Premium console option. Yes, it had very cinematic games - like Uncharted 2-3, The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc. But it also had fun family games - like the Buzz games, Crash, Sly, Jak, Little Big Planet, and Modenation Racers. I grew up thinking that Nintendo had fun and family-friendly games, but Sony had variety, - mature stories, fun games, co-op games - so I preferred PlayStation to any other system. On the PS4 era, every Sony game looked and played the same - action adventure with more cutscenes and dialogue than engaging gameplay. I would be fine with them focusing more on the narrative-driven games but giving us variety and options to play with friends. Even the Uncharted 3 had a cooperative; Resistance was awesome as an online co-op game;
If Western game dev studios continue this downward spiral, it wouldn't be a surprise if people chose to play Stellar Blade or other Chinese-produced games.
China and Korea are not sleeping on the western gaming crysis. On the contrary, they're coming in full force to fill the void of good games made for gamers, not for shareholders or loud Twitter users.
On the point of Foam Stars as a Splatoon player myself: I thought this would have been a great game, however there are a few things that really turned me off from it. Splatoon is a highly player customized experience. You can make your avatar look however you want, the ability chunks are customizable to how the player wants it to be on their favorite pieces of gear. Foam Stars tries a mixture of Splatoon and Overwatch, the game play being Splatoon and the characters being reminiscent of Overwatch. When you take away the player customization you're not going to be seen fairly no matter how good the gameplay actually is.

Helldivers 2 is making a comeback, they just made huge changes to the gameplay that were entirely driven by community feedback and the player count is back to 100k daily, until Sony fixes and apologizes for the region specific issues it won’t make it back to the player count at launch, but it is now just a fun game at least

@@soulstalker4624 the problem with live services i've played is over monetization, except warframe, dlc content makes sense to be paid, but in destiny 2, it's literally pay to win, weapons and even abilities are locked behind dlc, as well as armors. The monetization goes so far to this point, every year, there are 4 (now 3) seasons, each one has a special exotic mission for an exotic tier gun, this mission is only for season pass holders, though after the year is over and the season is removed fully, then the mission is for dlc owners, so the mission is essentially early access to anyone who buys the season

Helldivers is back! We had 60k players at peak over the weekend and 40k during the week. The buffs are awesome. Still salty about the geoblock, but the game is in a great place. I waited until they buffed everything and bought it on sale.
When you consider they scrapped a multiplayer live service Spider-man...when they could have just made Spider-man 2 coop where you and a friend could play as Peter and Miles or maybe even peter and venom...really makes you wonder what they are thinking.
Sony would have gotten far more mileage with live service if they seriously think about what they want to create that is fun to play, unique in its execution, and bring something interesting to the table and put in the right amount of resources in one good studio to do it.

I love the way you explain it. You should try teaching.

@BluCappy419 they still could have made more sales by just leaving things alone

@@SpottedHares your not gonna change anyone mind this comment section, sony's boy
"Players don't like the character art or general aesthetic."
"Can we change that?"
"No, we'd have to spend another $50 million updating pre-rendered cutscenes and rewriting character dialogue."
"Maybe they'll change their minds if the gameplay is really sick."
"Oh, totally, let's go with that."
But it turns out the gameplay wasn't quite sick enough (being a 2016 rehash).
"Maybe players will appreciate matches if we draw them out with stupidly slow movement speed."
"Maybe players will like this healer if we make his hitbox as big as a tank!"
"We can totally make players love these characters, all we have to do is FORCE THEM to play EVERYONE!"
"Okay, maybe players don't like them NOW, but give us a couple of months to release a ton of static conversations about what Rip-off Draxx's favorite Burrito is!"
"What do you mean we don't even have 700 players at launch?"
Firewalk was genuinely delusional, there's simply no other way to explain it.
You give them too much credit. It's well known that activists made Concord. They made the game DEI ugly on purpose and shut down any other opinion on the issue.

Awesome that you’re using the Satisfactory music, such a great game
I think the problem is the people running these giant companies have zero idea how actual people function or how games should work to be enjoyable (and therefore successful). Bobby Kotick wasn't unique, he was just visible.
His kind of mentality is ultra pervasive in large companies, gaming related or not. The consumer is a number on a spreadsheet, not an actual person. The game is just a commoditized product, not a creative work. Does it check the boxes on what they've analyzed as other successful games? If so then it should be successful right? Right?
Turns out when capitalistic greed outweighs everything else you don't get particularly good art.
There are more of such people because the gaming industry is a sea of money.
You Americans really do hate to call yourselves customers, you even see yourselves as consumers that do consuming. You are part of the problem.
Thankfully, no one is forced to buy any of this slop. Vote with your wallet and don't be a mindless consumer.
Well we definitely did that with Concord already lol

Lol snap isn't pay to win like that . I've been playing it since release and barely spend any money in it .
Even if they didn't shift full focus towards live-service games, I don't know if the single player experiences would have been as good as what we used to get.

CEOs have ONE main concern - making more money. Every CEO wants their company to have a Fortnite, Call Of Duty, or Destiny 2. Until they change that 'profit over quality' thing over to include customer satisfaction, company longevity, and employee health they will continue to make crap much of the time.

A mismanaged project can bleed money very easily without fraud.
That info is barely a rumour.
instead of copying overwatch and splatoon, they should have focus on their original IP multiplayer which is Twisted Metal. they have no faith on their original old IP. they are too scared for the Twisted Netal franchise to fail. Not all splatoon or Mario kart that nintendo makes are a hit
Concord was the end. They're gonna learn from that just like Todd Howard needs to learn that ES6 and Fallout 5 are the make or break for Bethesda.
PlayStation for me wasn't the Premium console option. Yes, it had very cinematic games - like Uncharted 2-3, The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc. But it also had fun family games - like the Buzz games, Crash, Sly, Jak, Little Big Planet, and Modenation Racers.
I grew up thinking that Nintendo had fun and family-friendly games, but Sony had variety, - mature stories, fun games, co-op games - so I preferred PlayStation to any other system.
On the PS4 era, every Sony game looked and played the same - action adventure with more cutscenes and dialogue than engaging gameplay. I would be fine with them focusing more on the narrative-driven games but giving us variety and options to play with friends.
Even the Uncharted 3 had a cooperative; Resistance was awesome as an online co-op game;

It's not "what" you know, but "who" you know that gets you into these jobs.
@@paxluporum4447 I hate to rain on the parade, but that's kinda always been how it works. I'm not saying it's good, I just remember my dad talking to me about his experience in the tech industry. Your resume didn't mean shit back then if you didn't have a foot in the door to land somewhere decent, and the way you did that was by knowing someone there.
That's actually one of the reasons that industry conferences exist. Grease palms, learn names, get In The Know. It just comes as a shock to people these days because nobody but those in the system bothered learning how it worked.
@TheRedstonian You are definitely not raining on my parade lol! I don't even think it's a bad thing on it's own. Good, talented, hard-working people tend to recommend people they know are like themselves. But I've seen more than one small business enter into a death spiral because someone shitty gets put in charge then invetibally bring in more shitty people that they know. Which is I think is one of the main problems here.
It is people that have never played a video game running the video game industry.
Sounds like they are just trying to find a get rich quick scheme. Games like movies are about the creative talent, writing and world building immersion. Not creating bullet sponges and endless levelling.
12 live services games 1 still alive
Now we as consumers have to live with the fact that we won’t see a new naughty dog game at the earliest 2028 realistically 2030
The genshin number you mentioned at 5 billion is only for mobile and the source isn't that reliable, Genshin had made 4 billion on mobile alone already 2+ years ago. Their numbers right now are more likely to be in the tens of billions.
Jak and Daxter would be nice.
It’s broken from the ground up with shareholders and bad leadership/union laws. Can’t expect any truly great choices with how fundamental these issues are, yeah.
Sold all my sony stock, this is going nowhere...
Helldivers is back! We had 60k players at peak over the weekend and 40k during the week. The buffs are awesome. Still salty about the geoblock, but the game is in a great place. I waited until they buffed everything and bought it on sale.
It all started with A little WOW 🤯
When you consider they scrapped a multiplayer live service Spider-man...when they could have just made Spider-man 2 coop where you and a friend could play as Peter and Miles or maybe even peter and venom...really makes you wonder what they are thinking.
Killing off Peter Parker was the point of Spiderman Miles Morales, so that the woke team can take over.
Sony would have gotten far more mileage with live service if they seriously think about what they want to create that is fun to play, unique in its execution, and bring something interesting to the table and put in the right amount of resources in one good studio to do it.
