Holy. 1 and 31 chance of saying the blues. 1 and 3 chance of saying it was because of a goalie. So 1 in 93 chance of him predicting this. Or a 1.01% Chance. Also I subbed to you
I just discovered this channel today. At one point in my youth, I knew no one who even came close to my insane level of hockey fandom...but you, sir, take things to a whole new level. Love it.
Blues riding a hot goalie to a cup?--Shannon, can you see the future lol? Also, this whole idea sounds wildly interesting and fun to me! Another wonderful video.
Holy crap! I do something similar, I've created my own Alternate Timeline with not just the NHL, but the NFL, MLB, and the NBA. I had the Canucks beating the Canadiens in the Stanley Cup in 1984 listed as the greatest Stanley Cup ever.
I had to give this 40 team league a try. Eastern Conference - North East Division - Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo South East Division - Tampa Bay, Florida, Carolina, Washington, Baltimore Atlantic Division - Boston, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Hartford, New Jersey Metropolitan Division - Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit Western Conference - Pacific Division - Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, Portland, San Diego North West Division - Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg South West Division - Arizona, Vegas, Colorado, Dallas, Houston Central Division - Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis, Nashville, Kansas City
I used to do this. I wrote a whole story about how i got scouted in Highschool on some rec team and got to play for USA and the World Juniors. And i eventually went into the NHL Entry Draft and went somewhere in the 4th round by San Jose. And i went through my 25 season career with stats, trophies, playoff appearances, when i got traded. I went through that whole story all in memory, out of the blue. And watching this video was very satisfying because people called me crazy when i was alone at a lunch table, writing about a story that would never happen in a million years. But now i know there's other hockey fanatics out there that do things like that. This is awesome
This is really cool! But I'm curious as to how you wrote it. Was it like a novel? Was it from your point of view or not? I just thought this was really cool. Thanks!
you would have loved nhl franchise mode as a kid. you can't add teams but you can change their jerseys and colours and swap them out, it's hella fun. i have a team in kansas city of course because you can add 1 team this year and i live in kansas city sadly, but i made new jerseys for the canucks, the bruins, the capitals, senators, preds, and a couple other im not remembering but man that took forever, pretty cool though, the nhl games have come a long way from when i was a kid.
I made something similar to this but in my hockey league, games were decided by the roll of the dice. I did it all throughout middle school and some of high school and people would see me sitting alone working away at this and wonder why I wanted to work for my free time. I couldn't answer that question but it was just what I loved to do. Loved this video 👍👍
I could see the NHL one day adding teams in the GTA,Quebec City,Seattle,Houston,Kansas City and Portland,it would make two eighteen team conferences. Bob.
This is basically what I did in previous NHL games. I'd go through every team and make a player or two where they were struggling and help each team contend for a playoff spot. I had mostly a different team win the cup every year and no team had more than 100 points. A lot of really good teams missed the playoffs by maybe a few points then they would make it the next year.
This is so awesome and fun to think about. I wrote down on paper everything that you had on your board in the same order/alignment and realized that east/west conferences wouldn’t work so we would need to go with something more like the old Wales vs Campbell conference names for Stanley Cup playoffs seeding. I love your content so much!!! Thank you so much
2 conferences of 500 teams, 5 divisions per conference of 100 teams each, 4 sectors for each division of 25 teams, and then 5 segments in each sector each made of 5 teams. All the divisions, segments, and sectors only matter for a regular season schedule, which is 100 games. The ideal postseason would just be the top 16 teams overall make it and the 16 seed plays the 1, the 15 plays the 2, and so on. You would have to expand overseas because 1000 teams is insane. What we have created here is a worldwide organization of hockey, or WOH. Also thanks for planting this idea in my head I'm gonna make a whole thing now
4 conferences of 250 teams 5 Divisions of 50 teams each conference 512 playoff teams First 10 teams of each division makes playoffs The rest are wild card teams
I also believe that the NHL will eventually expand to 40 teams but there are some cities I chose differently coming from an American. I kept East and West Conference with 4 divisions of 5 teams in each conference. East: Atlantic, Northeast, Southeast, & St. Lawrence West: Central, Northwest, Pacific, Southwest The Eastern Conference ATL Div: BUF, CBJ, DET, PHI, PIT NE Div: BOS, HFD, NJ, NYI, NYR SE Div: CAR, FLA, TB, VB (Virginia Beach, VA), WSH StL Div: MTL, OTT, QBC, TOR, TOR2 The Western Conference CEN Div: CHI, MIL, MIN, STL, WPG NW Div: CGY, EDM, POR, SEA, VAN PAC Div: ANA, AZ, LV, LA, SJ SW Div: COL, DAL, HOU, KC, NSH My expansion cities were Hartford, CT; Houston, TX; Kansas City, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Portland, Oregon; Quebec City, QC, CA; Seattle, WA; Toronto, ON, CA; Virginia Beach, VA
Andre48 rather than a team in Virginia I would rather have a team in Cleveland they could easily support one, now with a renovated arena, I could see it. If San Jose can have an nhl and an AHL team, Cleveland could have a nhl team and move the monsters to Cincinnati or Louisville, or if you want, Virginia beach.
MrSportsCards72 I put a team in VB because they are building a new arena and the developers are pursuing a NBA or NHL team. Plus, I've always felt that Columbus represented the State of Ohio because it's in the middle of the state. For some reason I've felt like having two teams in Ohio for any sport that wasn't Cleveland v. Cincinnati feels weird whether it's Columbus v. Cleveland or Columbus v. Cincinnati
Minnesota Arctic Blast I put KC in my Southeast Division instead of Central to even out the divisions... I tried ways to fit it into the Central but it didn't work
I made a 60 team NHL, the teams are: 1 Boston Bruins (17,565) 2 Buffalo Sabres (19,070) 3 Detroit Red Wings (20,000) 4 Florida Panthers (19,671) (Relocated to Miami) 5 Montreal Canadiens (21,288) 6 Ottawa Senators (18,572) 7 Tampa Bay Lightning (19,092) 8 Toronto Maple Leafs (18,819) 9 Carolina Hurricanes (18,680) 10 Columbus Blue Jackets (18,144) 11 New Jersey Devils (17,625) 12 New York Islanders (15,795) 13 New York Rangers (18,006) 14 Philadelphia Flyers (19,543) 15 Pittsburgh Penguins (18,387) 16 Washington Capitals (18,506) 17 Chicago Blackhawks (19,717) 18 Colorado Avalanche (18,007) 19 Dallas Stars (18,532) 20 Minnesota Wild (17,954) 21 Nashville Predators (17,113) 22 St. Louis Blues (19,150) 23 Winnipeg Jets (15,294) 24 Anaheim Ducks (17,174) 25 Arizona Coyotes (17,125) 26 Calgary Flames (19,289) 27 Edmonton Oilers (18,641) 28 Los Angeles Kings (18,230) 29 San Jose Sharks (17,562) 30 Vancouver Canucks (18,910) 31 Vegas Golden Knights (17,368) 32 Tucson Cacti (16,321) 33 Seattle Kraken (19,280) 34 Quebec City Nordiques (15,176) 35 Hartford Whalers (14,750) 36 Surrey Saints (9,428) 37 Mississauga Astronauts (14,925) 38 Markham Thorns (7,134) 39 Laval Magma (11,271) 40 Halifax Sea Siders (16,297) 41 Prince Edward Royals (4,728) 42 Maine Ice (6,733) 43 New Hampshire Black Bears (18,907) 44 Yukon Horseriders (6,237) 45 Yellowknife Brawlers (4,023) 46 Alaska Aces (6,490) 47 Juneau Eskimos (3,275) 48 Portland Greens (20,784) 49 Hamilton Reds (17,383) 50 Houston Aeros (17,800) 51 Kansas City Racers (18,972) 52 Cleveland Barons (18,544) 53 Salt Lake Mavericks (12,600) 54 Milwaukee Panthers (14,089) 55 Oklahoma City Electrics (15,152) 56 Indiana Greats (6,800) 57 Montreal Maroons (19,814) 58 Atlanta Thrashers (17,624) 59 Dakota Daredevils (11,643) 60 San Diego Bulls (21,309) Stadium capacities and the note on Florida are in brackets. The four best fourth placed teams will play eachother in a single game playoff where the best fourth placed team hosts the fourth best fourth placed team and the second best fourth best team hosts the third best fourth placed team. Then, the 32 teams remaining go into the playoffs. In the two conferences where the fourth placed team made it through to the playoffs the team that won that conference would play the team who finished fourth in their conference while the team that came second would play the team that came third in that conference. In the other conferences, the team that came first would play the team that came third while the eight teams who came second in their conference will play a nearby team, the combined travel time for those four games should be as low as possible between the eight teams. The round of 32s fixtures are best of five, with the first two games being held one of the teams stadiums and the other 1-3 being held at the other teams stadium. After the round of 32 has finished and there are 16 teams left the round of 16 starts, in the two conferences where the fourth placed team advanced to the round of 32 the two teams who won will play eachother, in the four other conferences where there are still two teams, those two teams will play eachother, the other four teams will be put into a group and will play the other teams twice each, totaling six games. The other games are best of seven, With the fixtures between Team A and Team B being Team A is at home for the 1st,2nd and 5th game while Team B is at home for the 3rd,4th,6th and 7th game. Then is the quarter final, there will be 8 teams from 8 different conferences, every team will play the team from their rival conference, there will either be no teams or 2 teams who don't have a team from their rival conference remaining, if there are 2 teams remaining who don't have a team to play in their rival conference, they will play eachother. The quarter final fixtures are best of 5, they use the same format as the round of 32 "the first two games being held one of the teams stadiums and the other 1-3 being held at the other teams stadium." In the semi finals there is a draw to determine the fixtures, then there will be two games, both best of 5 using the same format as the round of 32 and the quarter final. The Stanley cup final is held across three matches, the first match is held at the stadium of the team who got more points in the league than the other team, then the second game will be held at the other teams stadium, overtime will not be played in these games. Then, a third and final game will be played between the teams at a neutral stadium, if the game ends and the score from the 3 games combined is level, then it will go to 3 on 3 overtime, if 5 minutes have played and there neither team have scored, they will play another 5 minute period, if it's level after that, it's a shootout. Trophies Stanley Cup (Winner of the Playoffs) Prince of Wales Trophy (Finalist of the playoffs)* Presidents Trophy (Most points in Regular Season) Clarence S. Campbell Bowl (Finalist of the Playoffs)* Preseason Trophy (Winner of the Preseason tournament) * = The team with the better league record decides on which trophy they get before the final, the other team, will get the trophy that the team with the better league record did not pick. Preseason Trophy The Preseason Trophy is made up of 16 teams: - The top three teams from the finalists conferences (6 teams) - The top two teams from the semi finalists conferences (4 teams) - The top team from the other 6 conferences (6 teams) In the round of 16, there will be a draw to determine the fixtures and to determine who plays the game at home and who plays it away. This game is a one off game. The quarter finals, semi finals and final use the same format as the round of 16, "there will be a draw to determine the fixtures and to determine who plays the game at home and who plays it away. This game is a one of game." The teams who have been knocked out or did not qualify for the Preseason Trophy will play other teams who have been knocked out or did not qualify for the Preseason Trophy in friendlies.
Chance Settles I'd just group the matches together, making all of the divisional games happen at the beginning and playing all of the games against the divisional teams in a row. I.e Calgary would start their season playing Edmonton, then the next three of their games would be against Edmonton.
This is fucking badass. I love that you are so uncontrollably obsessed. I'm 15 and I have spent so much of my life being the same way, with stats, history, rivalries and I'd go on for years through this simulation just like you do, except I do it in American Basketball and I used to do it in American Football to an extreme. I am willing to get into this hockey purely because of this, it proves to me that there is somebody else that is like me. I completely agree by the way on your view of expanding the playoffs. I completely agree. I'm also a big international soccer fan and they are expanding the World Cup in 2026 from 32 teams to 64. It ruines the purity, it makes qualifying for the world cup mean nothing. You're Canada has only qualified for the world cup once, but now they probably will every other world cup.
Fantastic video. During the lock down you should have followed your league. It would gave been great as we could have gotten behind teams and players...
In the 90s as a Broncos fan, I used to look at newspaper for scores and stats. Pre-internet. I can't imagine how much research you did manually for hockey stats in the mid 90s 😥
At the first of the video when you were explaining what you did I was like "well he's lost it" but by the end of the video I was surprised that it actually made some sense lol
I used to do this too when I was a kid. But I only had a 10 team league cuz I Didnt want to make up/keep track of that many players or teams. I would actually play the games tho. When I was really young, I would use my closet as a net, and shoot a rolled up sock at myself with one of those little plastic hockey sticks and try to stop it with my body or a baseball glove. I remember one year for Christmas I got a CD player/stereo for Christmas, so whenever a goal was scored i would run over and turn it on and let music play for 10 seconds like a goal horn/song. As I got older I realized it was too predictable, and I was showing favoritism and letting in goals for certain players/teams. So I started playing in my driveway. I had a really challenging system for "clearing the puck out of the defensive zone" and "entering the offensive zone", and then I had an overly large "crease" that i couldn't shoot inside of. And the only way to score was to hit the back upper post in the net. Yeah, I had a sad/lonely childhood lol. But great video. Brought back so many memories.
Hey shannon, this was the video that got me into your channel a couple years ago. I used to do leagues like this back when i was a kid but with only 8-12 teams and less than 10 players on each. I thought i was crazy but it was cool to see someone else who did the same. I've been a fan ever since and I watch a lot of your videos daily. I'm starting up my own 48 team league this week with full custom rosters and schedule, and i'd love it if you could revisit this topic just explaining a bit more about it, id be super interested. Mad respect to you
I can see a 36 team league. It would just build on what the divisions they have. The Pacific adds Seattle, Central gets Milwaukee and Houston, Metro gets either Atlanta or Hartford, and the Atlantic gets Quebec City. There could be relocation to add places like Portland or Hamilton but I just don't see relocation happening right now.
Here's my simple idea for a 40 team NHL American Hockey Conference: AHC North- Quebec Nordics,Winnipeg Jets,Chicago Blackhawks,Pittsburgh Penguins AHC East- New York Rangers,Harfort Whalers,Toronto Maple Leafs,Washington Capitals,Boston Bruins AHC South- Nashville Predators,St Louis Blues,Tampa Bay Lightning,Atlanta Thrashers,Houston Areos AHC West- Vegas Golden Knights,Anaheim Ducks,Calgary Flames,Vancouver Canucks,Seattle Metropolitans National Hockey Conference NHC North- Detroit Red Wings,Montreal Canadiens,Ottawa Senators,Columbus Blue Jackets,Minnesota Wild NHC East- Philadelphia Flyers,New York Islanders,Buffalo Sabres,New Jersey Devils,Indiana Adventurers NHC South- Florida Panthers,Dallas Stars,Carolina Hurricanes,Memphis Cardinals,Kansas City Scouts NHC West- Edmonton Oilers,Arizona Coyotes,Los Angeles Kings,San Jose Sharks,Colorado Avalanche
I think I might do something like this but I'm gonna start with like as if the NHL didn't exist until like tomorrow or something and like start with 6 teams and start going at it that way
Silly Llama 69 the old ECHL New Orleans brass say otherwise. The ONLY reason they left was because of the NBA team kicking them out of the arena they both shared. The attendance figures were great for AA level hockey
It would be awesome if you could do your 40 league NHL and show us it's progression starting with the next season going onward. I'd be interested to see how you'd see some players progress, who would win Cups and what players you'd create. It would be fun to even include some of your viewers as ''players'' too!
In a hypothetical 40 team league I'd like to see a different playoff structure. 2 conferences and 8 divisions. The 1st team from every division gets a bye. 4 in each conference. The next beast 8 teams from each conference get a spot. 12 teams from each conference and 24 teams overall make the playoffs. Make the bye week and conference quarterfinals best of 5s and conference semis, finals, and the SC best of 7s. To compensate for the few extra games played a few games can be cut from the regular season.
I would love to see you keep this up again and make a site where people can track the teams. Call it the Fantasy Hockey League or something, that would be awesome
As much as I like the idea of the 40 team league, I think the NHL will want to keep the time zones the same the best they can. For example, Winnipeg is two time zones apart from Vancouver, and Hamilton three zones apart. I think the league would work under the following alignment: Eastern Conference NE: Boston, Hartford, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax Great Lakes: Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Cleveland, Hamilton Atlantic: NY Islanders, NY Rangers, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh SE: Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Washington, Columbus Western Conference: Central: Winnipeg, Minnesota, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis Midwest: Dallas, Houston, Colorado, Kansas City, Nashville NW: Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland SW: Arizona, Vegas, LA, Anaheim, San Jose Overall, I like the exercise you offer on the 40 team NHL
This is crazy I just recently tried doing something of the same sorts and I ended up with a 64 team league. I have been spending weeks just trying to figure out how to divide the divisions.
Please make another video on how you did it and more players from your league. Did you have players that dominated the league? Did you have a league with a Golden State and Cleveland feel to it where there were regular faces in the finals? and how did you format it all?
Would like to see the european teams play against the americas in playoffs, top 8 eu teams get to play in nhl playoffs would really boost hockey to a globally recognized sport
Add: Houston, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Hampton Roads, Saskatchewan, Toronto 2, Kansas City, Portland to get to 40. Boise, Halifax, Quebec, Cleveland could work. Weirdly, Burlington and North Dakota have more hockey fans per capita than larger US cities.
Imo. If the NHL expanded. I would only add 1 more team. Quebec Nordiques. Alignment would go as so. Western Conference Western Canada Division Canucks, Oilers, Flames, and Jets Pacific Division Sharks, Kings, Ducks, Golden Knights Central Division Wild, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Avalanche Southwest Division Stars, Coyotes, Blues, Predators Eastern Conference Eastern Canada Division Nordiques, Habs, Leafs, Sens Northeast Division Bruins, Sabres, Rangers, Islanders Atlantic Division Devils, Blue Jackets, Penguins, Flyers Southeast Division Capitals, Hurricanes, Lightning, Panthers Playoffs would return to 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, and 4v5 format
Few minor location things bother me, like Hamilton would not be in the NW. My relocation is primarily based on location, but tried to take rivalries into account. Chicago was one I kept trying to move to the midwest, but I couldn't really break up the NYC teams to accommodate that. NW VAN CGY EDM SEA POR SW LA SJ ARI LV ANA --- MW COL MIN WPG KC STL CEN CHI CLE CBJ DET HAM --- NE TOR MTL OTT HFX QC MET PIT PHI BUF BOS HAR --- ATL NJ NYR NYI WSH CAR S HOU DAL NSH TB FLA
My idea would be of a 40 team playoffs would be the top 6 teams in each conference make the playoffs, and the next four make the wild card, the wildcard teams face off 1v4 and 2v3 seeding and the winners move on to the playoffs, then it’s just classic playoffs
Here would be my version Western Conference Canadian West - Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnepeg, Saskatchewan Pacific - LA Kings, Oakland Sharks, Anahiem Ducks, Seattle, Portland Northwest - Minnesota, Milwaukee, Chicago, Colorado, Utah Central - Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Kansas City, St. Louis Eastern Canadian East - Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa, Halifax Northeast - Boston, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, Buffalo Southeast - Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina, Washington, Baltimore G2 - Columbus, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Detroit, Indiana Can you please respond to what you think of this
Sounds like... You needed a friend... I know because I used to do similar things.. though I used computer software for much of the work.. ahhh, the good old days.. when hockey was much different... I find that I need to watch slap-shot a few times a year to remind myself of what hockey was like back then. Not only the more goon style.. but even in the playing, you didn't have the set plays like they have not.. that came in with the Russians and the 2 series they played with Canada back in the 70's
What if in later years the NHL did expand that much or even more? I think an interesting idea would be if they adopted a variation of the Premier League system, where the worst team of each division every year drops to the next best league, and the winner of the division moves up to the best league. That way if they expand to say, 60 teams, then they could still maintain the current schedule to an extent. The best league would still be the NHL and the next best league would be called the WHA maybe. That would increase the level of competition in both leagues because the teams are closer to each other's level. Also, there wouldn't be any more rebuilding teams in the NHL. You can avoid watching bad teams if you want to.
1:59 Guys he literally just predicted the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals
Love it.
You should talk more about the league you created. I find it interesting
Yeah this is very interesting.
Go more in depth/ how the hell did you do it
Please do a more in depth video with some of the season stats from your league
kmoney cruze I agree
Dude this guy is one of the most creative people out there. If there's anyone who can fix north American sports its this guy
Good idea except you have Hamilton in the same division as Vancouver
That was me who commented about the 40 team league😉
I know this is an old video, but I love how he mentioned St. Louis riding a hot goalie to a Cup. Huh reminds me of the 2019 Blues
Blues riding a hot goalie to a cup?--Shannon, can you see the future lol? Also, this whole idea sounds wildly interesting and fun to me! Another wonderful video.
Uran sh'Voria just off by 25 yrs
Eastern Conference -
North East Division - Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo
South East Division - Tampa Bay, Florida, Carolina, Washington, Baltimore
Atlantic Division - Boston, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Hartford, New Jersey
Metropolitan Division - Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit
Western Conference -
Pacific Division - Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, Portland, San Diego
North West Division - Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg
South West Division - Arizona, Vegas, Colorado, Dallas, Houston
Central Division - Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis, Nashville, Kansas City
James Hulse only concern, Washington is not south east. But I understand why you had to put them there
Nice but I would love to see Milwaukee have team
I'd love to know how you "simulated" your league
This reminds me of another dude who designs intricate maps of fictional islands and whatnot. Cool concept
Lets remake this one too. What a great idea! More Hockey teams! More Hockey!
St. Louis won a Cup? That's crazy talk!
holy crap, congratz on 12k subs already
Dysliptic now over 100k
I used to do this. I wrote a whole story about how i got scouted in Highschool on some rec team and got to play for USA and the World Juniors. This is really cool! But I'm curious as to how you wrote it. Was it like a novel? Was it from your point of view or not? I just thought this was really cool. Thanks!
it was from my point of view
Is it OK if I do something similar? Thanks!
Doesnt matter to me lol. Its all about having an imagination and a dream.
of course. thanks again!
somewhere around the 2min mark: Blues had a hot goalie and won it in 1994??!! That's pretty much what happened in 2019! You're a genius Shannon ;-)
I make whole leagues. I remade the International Hockey League-IHL that's my current project and it's a lot of fun
Pensacola Flyer i make custom team leagues in NHL 17. Lots of fun indeed
How do you do these custom leauges because i am extremely interested in making one
Michael Sukut me too bro! It was so fun making all the teams, and creating players. How do you play them, season?
Michael Sukut I wrote them on paper. Made logos and jerseys and names and either did a table hockey game or an NHL 17 or whatever year simulation
you would have loved nhl franchise mode as a kid. you can't add teams but you can change their jerseys and colours and swap them out, it's hella fun. i have a team in kansas city of course because you can add 1 team this year and i live in kansas city sadly, but i made new jerseys for the canucks, the bruins, the capitals, senators, preds, and a couple other im not remembering but man that took forever, pretty cool though, the nhl games have come a long way from when i was a kid.
I'd like to see a video where you go over the stats of your league more. Even if it's a really long one
This actually makes sense, I think that my head is broken now
I made something similar to this but in my hockey league, games were decided by the roll of the dice. I did it all throughout middle school and some of high school and people would see me sitting alone working away at this and wonder why I wanted to work for my free time. I couldn't answer that question but it was just what I loved to do. Loved this video 👍👍
Please restart this. It would be so cool to watch and I think I'm going to try it I'll probably only start with 8 but I'll see how far I go
I could see the NHL one day adding teams in the GTA,Quebec City,Seattle,Houston,Kansas City and Portland,it would make two eighteen team conferences. Bob.
Janet Sampson why not hamilton?!?
This is commitment, I respect how creative and in depth the league u made is
Just discovered this site...love the Canuck "Electric Skate"...almost as much as the "Flying V"!😁
Thank you so much
Do a 1000 team NHL
Wanna be my dad
2 conferences of 500 teams, 5 divisions per conference of 100 teams each, 4 sectors for each division of 25 teams, and then 5 segments in each sector each made of 5 teams. All the divisions, segments, and sectors only matter for a regular season schedule, which is 100 games. The ideal postseason would just be the top 16 teams overall make it and the 16 seed plays the 1, the 15 plays the 2, and so on. You would have to expand overseas because 1000 teams is insane.
What we have created here is a worldwide organization of hockey, or WOH.
Also thanks for planting this idea in my head I'm gonna make a whole thing now
4 conferences of 250 teams
5 Divisions of 50 teams each conference
512 playoff teams
First 10 teams of each division makes playoffs
The rest are wild card teams
The nhl would be less prestigious than the echl if they did that.
duuuude Berlin blew out Canberra last night it was insane
I also believe that the NHL will eventually expand to 40 teams but there are some cities I chose differently coming from an American.
I kept East and West Conference with 4 divisions of 5 teams in each conference.
East: Atlantic, Northeast, Southeast, & St. Lawrence
West: Central, Northwest, Pacific, Southwest
The Eastern Conference
ATL Div: BUF, CBJ, DET, PHI, PIT
NE Div: BOS, HFD, NJ, NYI, NYR
SE Div: CAR, FLA, TB, VB (Virginia Beach, VA), WSH
StL Div: MTL, OTT, QBC, TOR, TOR2
The Western Conference
CEN Div: CHI, MIL, MIN, STL, WPG
NW Div: CGY, EDM, POR, SEA, VAN
PAC Div: ANA, AZ, LV, LA, SJ
SW Div: COL, DAL, HOU, KC, NSH
My expansion cities were Hartford, CT; Houston, TX; Kansas City, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Portland, Oregon; Quebec City, QC, CA; Seattle, WA; Toronto, ON, CA; Virginia Beach, VA
I could get behind this
Andre48 rather than a team in Virginia I would rather have a team in Cleveland they could easily support one, now with a renovated arena, I could see it.
Cincinnati
I like it but you missed Kansas City with I'm assuming should be in the central. Cleveland before Virginia Beach.
Minnesota Arctic Blast I put KC in my Southeast Division instead of Central to even out the divisions... I tried ways to fit it into the Central but it didn't work
you went 11k subs to 14k so fast! great channel best hockey channel on youtube! thank you for your insight

You Play the teams in your division 4 times each (20 games)
You also play the teams in the rival division twice (12 games)
You also play all the other teams once (48 games)
Total: 80 Games
Preseason - 4 Games
Regular Season - 80 Games
Playoffs - Up To 26 Games
Rival Divisions:
Canadian Division - Great White North and Albertan Division
South Canada Division- American Division
South-West Division - Atlantic Division
Pacific League - Central Division
North-East Division - Great Lakes
How the playoffs work:
The top 3 teams from each conference automatically advance to the playoffs after the regular season ends.
The quarter final fixtures are best of 5, they use the same format as the round of 32 "the first two games being held one of the teams stadiums and the other 1-3 being held at the other teams stadium."
In the semi finals there is a draw to determine the fixtures, then there will be two games, both best of 5 using the same format as the round of 32 and the quarter final.
Trophies
Stanley Cup (Winner of the Playoffs)
Prince of Wales Trophy (Finalist of the playoffs)*
Presidents Trophy (Most points in Regular Season)
Clarence S. Campbell Bowl (Finalist of the Playoffs)*
Preseason Trophy (Winner of the Preseason tournament)
* = The team with the better league record decides on which trophy they get before the final, the other team, will get the trophy that the team with the better league record did not pick.
Preseason Trophy
The Preseason Trophy is made up of 16 teams:
- The top three teams from the finalists conferences (6 teams)
- The top two teams from the semi finalists conferences (4 teams)
- The top team from the other 6 conferences (6 teams)
In the round of 16, there will be a draw to determine the fixtures and to determine who plays the game at home and who plays it away. This game is a one off game.
The quarter finals, semi finals and final use the same format as the round of 16, "there will be a draw to determine the fixtures and to determine who plays the game at home and who plays it away. This game is a one of game."
The teams who have been knocked out or did not qualify for the Preseason Trophy will play other teams who have been knocked out or did not qualify for the Preseason Trophy in friendlies.
Yorkshire Ball how did you make the schedules or keep track of who played who?
Chance Settles I haven't get to the schedules, I've created the players for half the league.
Yorkshire Ball Alright because I’ve made all of the teams and divisions but honesty don’t think I can organize an 80 game schedule for 40 teams.
Chance Settles I'd just group the matches together, making all of the divisional games happen at the beginning and playing all of the games against the divisional teams in a row. I.e Calgary would start their season playing Edmonton, then the next three of their games would be against Edmonton.
Yorkshire Ball Alright so basically how in baseball they play teams in series?
Really liking these uploads keep up the great work!
Love this guy. Something I would do too. Gonna go create mine now.
So how did it turn out?
Holy shit same when I was little I made the 'Kids Football League' with players, stats, logos, unis, etc.
Fantastic video. During the lock down you should have followed your league. It would gave been great as we could have gotten behind teams and players...
I really like this idea i want to try this thank you for sharing
Wow, this is really cool! You've really put alot of effort into this. I wish I was that creative, maybe I'll try this sometime
volcanope I think I’m going to try it but with a different sport maybe
That is some serious dedication. Nice Canucks hat.
In the 90s as a Broncos fan, I used to look at newspaper for scores and stats. Pre-internet. I can't imagine how much research you did manually for hockey stats in the mid 90s 😥
Congrats on 12K Subs 😎
This is really cool. I may try this myself!
At the first of the video when you were explaining what you did I was like "well he's lost it" but by the end of the video I was surprised that it actually made some sense lol
I like the Rangers winning a lot! Very creative, that's a lot more than I could ever do.
Love it. Houston would be SW (Texas) and Hartford (bring em back!) would be E.. just southeast of Boston
This is really cool!! I like the idea of adding 9 more teams and you make a great point about keeping the playoffs the same. Maybe 1 day
I love your content! Keep it up!
Lmao the Blues did ride a hot goalie, quite the accurate prediction
Hey shannon, this was the video that got me into your channel a couple years ago. I used to do leagues like this back when i was a kid but with only 8-12 teams and less than 10 players on each. I thought i was crazy but it was cool to see someone else who did the same. I've been a fan ever since and I watch a lot of your videos daily. I'm starting up my own 48 team league this week with full custom rosters and schedule, and i'd love it if you could revisit this topic just explaining a bit more about it, id be super interested. Mad respect to you
Please do a video about how you did the player stats and free agency and such this seems like a cool idea I'd like to try
Cool video, quite an interesting concept sounds like you put alot of time into that league. This type of thing is fun to think about.
That means 9 extra THG season previews
I'd absolutely watch a series where you broke down the seasons etc.
So would I.
Here's my simple idea for a 40 team NHL
American Hockey Conference:
AHC North- Quebec Nordics,Winnipeg Jets,Chicago Blackhawks,Pittsburgh Penguins
AHC East- New York Rangers,Harfort Whalers,Toronto Maple Leafs,Washington Capitals,Boston Bruins
AHC South- Nashville Predators,St Louis Blues,Tampa Bay Lightning,Atlanta Thrashers,Houston Areos
AHC West- Vegas Golden Knights,Anaheim Ducks,Calgary Flames,Vancouver Canucks,Seattle Metropolitans
National Hockey Conference
NHC North- Detroit Red Wings,Montreal Canadiens,Ottawa Senators,Columbus Blue Jackets,Minnesota Wild
NHC East- Philadelphia Flyers,New York Islanders,Buffalo Sabres,New Jersey Devils,Indiana Adventurers
NHC South- Florida Panthers,Dallas Stars,Carolina Hurricanes,Memphis Cardinals,Kansas City Scouts
NHC West- Edmonton Oilers,Arizona Coyotes,Los Angeles Kings,San Jose Sharks,Colorado Avalanche
I think I might do something like this but I'm gonna start with like as if the NHL didn't exist until like tomorrow or something and like start with 6 teams and start going at it that way
New sub your out of your mind and I love it great job go whalers!!! Go islanders
Call me crazy, but it be cool if New Orleans have an NHL Team,
no one plays hockey in louisiana tho. it would just be a tourist attraction like vegas is and have no real fans and move after
Silly Llama 69 the old ECHL New Orleans brass say otherwise. The ONLY reason they left was because of the NBA team kicking them out of the arena they both shared. The attendance figures were great for AA level hockey

There might be a chance
It would be awesome if you could do your 40 league NHL and show us it's progression starting with the next season going onward. I'd be interested to see how you'd see some players progress, who would win Cups and what players you'd create.
It would be fun to even include some of your viewers as ''players'' too!
You should set your league up in franchise hockey manager!
I agree.
Thats amazing
In a hypothetical 40 team league I'd like to see a different playoff structure. 2 conferences and 8 divisions. The 1st team from every division gets a bye. 4 in each conference. The next beast 8 teams from each conference get a spot. 12 teams from each conference and 24 teams overall make the playoffs. Make the bye week and conference quarterfinals best of 5s and conference semis, finals, and the SC best of 7s. To compensate for the few extra games played a few games can be cut from the regular season.
Brilliant
That's awesome I think that you made a 40 team NHL and ran stats like that. That would be something I think would be fun
I think the league would work under the following alignment:
Eastern Conference
NE: Boston, Hartford, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax
Great Lakes: Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Cleveland, Hamilton
Atlantic: NY Islanders, NY Rangers, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh
SE: Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Washington, Columbus
Western Conference:
Central: Winnipeg, Minnesota, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis
Midwest: Dallas, Houston, Colorado, Kansas City, Nashville
NW: Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland
SW: Arizona, Vegas, LA, Anaheim, San Jose
Overall, I like the exercise you offer on the 40 team NHL
congrats on 12k subs!
I really hope 40 Team NHL becomes reality
You should do it 1-31 prospect pools
I'd love a 40 team NHL, and I'd also love Halifax to get an NHL team
It's not a league until the Kenora(Rat Portage)Thistles are Cup Champs!!!Oh man you have my Whalers back-nice!!!
Or replace wildcard spots with top EU teams
I've been doing the same thing since 2011, last year the predators beat the Panthers in 6 😂
This is so awesome! I love this fictional league, the made up players and trades...
Wish they make this happen. I would love it.
I have to say I find it kinda funny that you have Hartford in "Central" when 4 of the 5 teams in the "East" are further west than Hartford.
I want Hartford and Carolina in the same division. :)
I like it
Nhl franchise mode back in the day😂😂😂
Scrapper 39 lol
Mid Atlantic would be a good name for that division
it sounds like the NFL's schedule layout.
Imo. If the NHL expanded. I would only add 1 more team. Quebec Nordiques. Alignment would go as so.
Western Conference
Western Canada Division
Canucks, Oilers, Flames, and Jets
Pacific Division
Sharks, Kings, Ducks, Golden Knights
Central Division
Wild, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Avalanche
Southwest Division
Stars, Coyotes, Blues, Predators
Eastern Conference
Eastern Canada Division
Nordiques, Habs, Leafs, Sens
Northeast Division
Bruins, Sabres, Rangers, Islanders
Atlantic Division
Devils, Blue Jackets, Penguins, Flyers
Southeast Division
Capitals, Hurricanes, Lightning, Panthers
Playoffs would return to 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, and 4v5 format
The Ungovernable I can not like this enough it’s a thing of beauty
This is awesome
Very very cool.
That is Crazy Shan... let's be real
Few minor location things bother me, like Hamilton would not be in the NW. My relocation is primarily based on location, but tried to take rivalries into account. Chicago was one I kept trying to move to the midwest, but I couldn't really break up the NYC teams to accommodate that.

My idea would be of a 40 team playoffs would be the top 6 teams in each conference make the playoffs, and the next four make the wild card, the wildcard teams face off 1v4 and 2v3 seeding and the winners move on to the playoffs, then it’s just classic playoffs
You should do a series talking about the history of your league
Here would be my version
Western Conference
Canadian West - Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnepeg, Saskatchewan
Pacific - LA Kings, Oakland Sharks, Anahiem Ducks, Seattle, Portland
Northwest - Minnesota, Milwaukee, Chicago, Colorado, Utah
Central - Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Kansas City, St. Louis
Eastern
Canadian East - Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa, Halifax
Northeast - Boston, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, Buffalo
Southeast - Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina, Washington, Baltimore
G2 - Columbus, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Detroit, Indiana
Can you please respond to what you think of this
You could switch Halifax for Hamilton and Baltimore for Hartford
Sounds like... You needed a friend... I know because I used to do similar things.. though I used computer software for much of the work.. ahhh, the good old days.. when hockey was much different... I find that I need to watch slap-shot a few times a year to remind myself of what hockey was like back then. Not only the more goon style.. but even in the playing, you didn't have the set plays like they have not.. that came in with the Russians and the 2 series they played with Canada back in the 70's
This is a great video
I would love to be able just to read that book of stats. You should do some videos talking about it.
Bmac4460 well the NHL could do that with the AHL but I think that the audience would determine on who would up and down and it would be a huge hassle.
How is Hartford in the central when they're more northern than NY and NJ
