  • This isn't new content but it IS a new video that I did for a jewelry contest(no I didn't win) so I thought I would share it. It's a super slimmed down version, minus the intro, minus the music, minus anything that might have slowed things down, I hope :) I have added a druzy bead too.
    The crystals that I used were an Amethyst, A Druzy, and a Citrine Crystal. This technique can be done in silver as they have silver leaf kits and flakes too.
    The Gold Flakes I used are by ArtMinds
    The Sealer is Mona Lisa by Speedballart( Mod Podge will probably work well for sealing too)
    The glue is E6000 available at craft and hardware stores.I've been told that Mod Podge Dimensional Magic works well for glueing on the jump ring)
    Here's the link for the technique that I adapted these pendants from: www.jamiebhanni...
    Thanks so much to her for her inspiration.
    For Gold Leaf Kits, Sealer and Adhesive:
    www.speedballar...
    www.michaels.co...
    ArtMinds gold flakes are available at Michaels Craft store.
    New Age stores are great places to get crystals, also Etsy.com and I was told by a viewer that this place on eBay has a great selection of crystals the store is called Mininggems
    stores.ebay.com...

    This was good and I've been wondering how to attach a jump ring on raw crystals and apply the gold leaf. Thanks Denise.

    They look fantastic! I saw another UA-camr use that same glue and I wondered if it would hold up on something that heavy but you said it's automotive glue so I suppose it really is good! Thanks for sharing! ☺

    I’m trying to do this with high end crystals and 24ct gold. Will it have same results?

    Hey, thank you for this video!
    I am worried I’m doing something wrong.. I tried this using the Mona Lisa sealer as a finish, but my stone is now sticky.. I did not apply a lot at all. But my stones have been sticky for a couple weeks. Did you have this problem? And if so how did you fix it?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  4 роки тому +3

      I haven’t had this problem but someone commented that they had that issue as well a while back. I wonder if it’s related to a more humid environment, not sure though. My suggestion would be to paint a coat or 2 of clear nail polish over the sealer to see if it will get rid of the stickiness. Hope this helps 😊

      This is happening for me as well. I came here to figure this out...I live in Florida and it has been raining for weeks. perhaps this is why...??

    I love this tutorial!
    Question: Others ask how long it lasts looking new. I saw you say surprisingly well. But could you give an estimate? If you have one? I'd just like to be honest if I make them as gifts for my clients. Thank you!

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  Рік тому +1

      Yes, it does last a while but if you really want a good base the best way to figure that out is to make a piece for yourself and wear it constantly for a few weeks. That’s what I used to do when I had a jewelry store, that way I could detect any quality issues and fix it before selling. Hope this helps 😊

      @@DeniseMathew ok thank you. Ya, I would definitely be upset if I made something and a couple weeks went by and it was already changed. Thanks for the advice!

    Thank you so much for sharing this. Question - does the sealer dry matte or gloss?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  8 років тому +2

      It's slightly glossy but not super shiny, the more you apply the shinier it will get. I have some professionally dipped gemstones and the shine is comparable. Hope this helps.

    Thank you for sharing. I'm curious about how well this method holds up over time and wear. Does the stuff start wearing away. I'm interested in unsung real silver and gold. Thanks!

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  7 років тому

      +Jerilyn Stone in my experience if you seal it well, it wears well, you can always reapply sealer if you what but my stones are still in great shape and it's been a few years now. That's cool to be able to use real silver and gold, good luck with your project. 😊

    Hi love, will the crystal and the gold flake be pretty water resistant? Or not really?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  3 роки тому

      yes, the metal molds right to the stone and when you add that last coat or 2 of sealer it waterproofs it and gives it a lot of stability. 😊

    I have tried using this glue and it takes a long time to set. How did you keep the jump ring in place overnight to set?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  4 роки тому +2

      I think high humidity might affect drying time with the glue. Anything that you can use to prop up the ring until it dries, will work, I’ve stuck tweezers in play dough and propped it is that way, even a popsicle stick can work, if you have a third hand that works well too. Hope this helps.😊

  • @rachelbacaner3285

    and just to make sure I understand, you first glue the jump ring on top of the crystal with the E6000 glue? (and let it dry overnight)?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  3 роки тому

      yes, the longer the loop has to dry the better it stays in place.

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  8 років тому +1

      As long as you leave the glue dry for 24 hours after you apply the jump ring it stays on really well. Hope this helps😊

    Just wanted to know how long the gold leaf lasts, does it go dull and start to peel off after a while? Thanks for the video 😁

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  4 роки тому +1

      it actually lasts a long time in my experience, and it doesn’t peel off, but adding an extra coating of sealer will add extra protection.

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  8 років тому +1

      You don't need a cap just the gold leaf will work and the gold leaf doesn't oxidize if you put a sealer over it. Hope this answers your question.😊
