      I don't know why they call it that when raising a fine gold surface to low karat gold is also a thing. That may be why some call it, "raising a fine silver surface" or people avoiding using the term 'depletion guilding' when they are raising a fine silver surface.

Does the leaf attach on the wall of same material (same melting point) if using a torch a) above the layer b) heat the jewel first and then adding the leaf on the preheated wall?

    Hi there! I was wondering if you’ve ever continued to do solder work on a piece after it’s been keum boo treated? I ask because my work starts flat but then gets shaped and more solder work ends up being applied after the part that would be best to apply Gold. It’s not direct flame, but it would be essentially annealed again.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  3 роки тому +2

I would also briefly go over the technique in the description and talk about the history of it. It builds a story around the piece and gives them something to talk about if they buy it to others.

      @@GomeowCreations That cracked me up! I only use it sometimes for wire wrapping. Wire is soft but I've never bought sheet. Do what works for you is my motto.

      I was wondering the same thing. I've seen gold solder used as an embellishment on reticulated sterling silver and was thinking of using fine silver. I might do a test and see how it goes. Also the AU link for the gold leaf is for imitation not real gold. Not sure that will work.

      It's a weak acid that cleans up your work after soldering and heating. It removes the flux and oxidation. Here is a full video about it ua-cam.com/video/1mPAXsKXb1Q/v-deo.html

    If you put the liver of sulphur on to the piece instead of in the water, and then heated the piece, then you will get the same effect, without having to wait around...........

    First of all, thank you so much for sharing this, it is really enlightening and inspirational!
    I have a question though, if you need to add gold details to a ring is this technique durable or is it better to use gold plating? Would you recommend keum boom as an alternative to gold plating? I hope it makes sense what I am trying to explain :)

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  4 роки тому +4

      I think Keum boo is a lot thicker than gold plating so this might do better over time.

    Warning ⚠️ ~ you have an open sore on your finger ~ my friend who was cutting with metal ended up getting a speck of metal in a unprotected sore in palm of her hand ~ tool a long time and many hospital visits to sort it ~ also got very painful ~ please make sure to cover them for safety!
