Yeah, he's an underrated vocalist. His style seems quirky at first, but it doesn't take long to realize he has solid vocal control and pitch. Probably helps that he only sings a few notes per song, but still crisp af.
This is the purest form of The Smiths here. Before the success got to Morrissey’s head. The innocent up and coming days. This is the version of Morrissey I like best. Andy and Johnny absolutely brilliant as usual.
Hard to say the success wouldn’t have gone to anyone’s head! It was all part of what made this music so great , Morrissey was always a little asshole lol, but when he was famous it became less cute 😂
The flowers mean alot morrisey pulled a bunch of daffodils and waved them on TOTP 1983 its a tribute to Oscar Wilde morrisey was bi sexual and Oscar wilde also it was taboo in 80s

I know that Morrissey has it's flaws, he cancels shows, he has polemic political views, but man... Robert Smith (with all his professionalism) will never in his entire life reach artistically to be a 10% of what Morrissey and The Smiths are to an entire generation.
robert smith clears morrissey. the cure filled up stadiums in the late 80s / early 90s. shows in america with 75k fans (dodger stadium) while the smiths couldn't reach that level internationally. the cure sold out every single show on every leg of their last tour (saw them may of 2023) with multiple dates in large arenas, while morrissey cancelled shows in small venues.
@@user3wx9V-178I think his point was that the smiths were much more influential than the cure, but that's like comparing led zeppelin to black sabbath, both incredibly huge bands that had huge influence
I guess were not going to talk about how Johnny is working so hard on that glorious riff with zero backup.
I’ve been playing guitar all my life, and this song is an insane workout on the guitar - there’s nothing easy about playing This Charming Man
Can we start an appreciation thread?
Dang bro did not mess up a single note
Cuz he’s literally a god

@@CarlosFromPhillyHis later work has a lot more variation of notes and shows even more control. He only improves as he ages.
because hes the goat
he does at 2:05 still goated tho
Won’t even lie he was so fit back then
Real
I was born about 20 years too late to see this live😭 what I wouldn’t give to go back😩
i know right???
They exploded on the scene and have left an incredible void in post punk music. I can't think of one band with this much passion and musical prowess.

Really wish you could see Johnny play more here
A fashion icon if you ask me
Yeah but he doesn’t have a stitch to wear
My favorite version of this song of all time! It was taken down for the longest time, thank you so much for uploading!!
Serious question, why is this your fave version? Sounds pretty much identical to the studio version.
@@CarlosFromPhilly Maybe he likes the video lol
It’s like this charming in beta testing, i can’t see how you think this sounds like the studio version but yes I do love the video ;)
@@jamesrice7583 other than sounding like it was recorded from farther away, it sounds virtually the same to me.
@@jay1jayf i have listened tens of time to the studio version. It does have it's fair share subtle differences
