Am I the only one who picked up on the irony that Noel smashed a fan over the head with a Gibson that originally belonged to the guy who smashed Abbie Hoffman over the head with a Gibson at Woodstock? I believe Pete's weapon of choice was an SG destroyed beyond recognition after the show, but hey, ya never know.
The Smiths and Oasis - both legendary acts. But it' sad to see Smiths not getting the same popularity as Oasis. Very few of their songs have been made into videos and they didn't get their due of fame and money as much as they should have got. Though I'm sure that would not be the Smiths chief end of making music but recognition for their hard work is still due. Face it, many crappy bands today are more well-known than the Smiths. Sad.
I remember back in 1982-ish, when my dad took me to buy me my very first electric guitar (I was 14) at a music store in downtown Oakland, they had a sunburst 1959 Les Paul Custom behind the counter displayed in its own cabinet. $10,000. It was beautiful. Can't imagine what it would be worth today. The guitar I did get was a burgundy Epiphone Riviera. Had to hawk it during some hard times. Sure wish I still had it.
dave h maybe a stretch but Marr is a funny dude, here in America the average joe never even heard of him or noel and that's what is screwed about american pop and rock in the 80's & 90's, how did a generation miss the smiths and gallaghers?
True, they had sort of a cult following.....Jimmy page has been offered a million quid for his les paul, and eric clapton sold a fender for £950 000....probly paid a few hundred quid for it
I treat my Les Paul like "my precious!" Like it's a fucking treasure. lol I'm always mortified when I see professional musicians treating their guitars like rubbish. I suppose they can afford to get another, after they've ruined one.

They obviously weren't worth that much in 1994 though
Wow, what an incredible story and possibly the most beautiful guitar of all time. I knew about the Newcastle fight but never knew the background
GroundbreakTV At the end of The Who’s set at Woodstock, Pete actually threw that SG into the crowd, in one piece. He didn’t smash it.
Nice story.
Incredible symmetry from Townsend to Marr to Gallagher. . . . . . . That's the universe talking right there
When he started the excalibur bit i fucking pissed myself.. Lay down some heavy licks..
What a legend Johnny Marr is. So humble and a genius
Sad.
nar not anymore its suddenly cool to like the smiths now u seen how many cunts walkin about with morrissey haircuts these days
Albert Hofmann Mate they've copied that from Justin Bieber not the Smiths.
blah blahh nar cause they even wear the daft hipster shirts too with the sleeves rolled up even tho they are already short sleeved shirts
No Smiths perhaps no Oasis
Fame was never the goal. The music, that was their grail. They earned immense respect, reverence, and historic significance with their talent.
Top man!! And what a guitarist!!! Untouchable! 🕶
Noel has the same mannerisms as Johnny
I remember back in 1982-ish, when my dad took me to buy me my very first electric guitar (I was 14) at a music store in downtown Oakland, they had a sunburst 1959 Les Paul Custom behind the counter displayed in its own cabinet. $10,000. It was beautiful. Can't imagine what it would be worth today. The guitar I did get was a burgundy Epiphone Riviera. Had to hawk it during some hard times. Sure wish I still had it.
The guitar was given to Marr by Townsend and Noel SMASHES IT on some Wanker!? Bloody Hell!!
A 1960 les paul is worth a lot on its own, never mind being p townsends and j marrs.....Probly worth £500,000
dave h maybe a stretch but Marr is a funny dude, here in America the average joe never even heard of him or noel and that's what is screwed about american pop and rock in the 80's & 90's, how did a generation miss the smiths and gallaghers?
True, they had sort of a cult following.....Jimmy page has been offered a million quid for his les paul, and eric clapton sold a fender for £950 000....probly paid a few hundred quid for it
dave h It was not then.
I treat my Les Paul like "my precious!" Like it's a fucking treasure. lol I'm always mortified when I see professional musicians treating their guitars like rubbish. I suppose they can afford to get another, after they've ruined one.
Johnny does the best story times. Pure Gold.
"I wonder who got the power pack"
ufewl ufewlx so the guitar you gave away, you then got back? Ahaha haha ahaha haha ha... news

What a funny story hahaha. News 😄
Johnny Marr is a great, great person.
“And then we drank the blood of a groupie” 😂
Love how Marr is still not a pretentious prick after all the legendary bands/music he's been involved with. A true inspiration.
Saying Noel Gallagher is a shit guitarist is like saying Bob Dylan is a shit singer.. It's just a nothing statement.
Well that's racist and irrelevant. Well done! Nice Trolling
Who has talent in your opinion?
+spaceorbison Noel being able to write classics in half hour is not talentless. You on the other hand are. Twat.
Because you are obviously not a fan don't mean it ain't so son
+spaceorbison that's just a bullshit statement you can't say people have shit taste because of one band you don't like. You sound like a complete hispter
