Alex Lifeson said in an interview this is his all time favorite guitar solo. He is so under appreciated for his contribution to rock guitar. His massive open chords and carefully crafted solos are as much a part of the sound of Rush as any other. Listen to how he creates an atmosphere to match the theme of each song. In Red Barchetta you can feel yourself behind the wheel of the car as he incinerates his axe. In Free Will you can feel the chaos of the universe. In Spirit of the Radio you can feel the high frequency FM waves spiking away from the transmitter. A master.

Alex Lifeson's chords were absolutely prophetic to modern rock. Basically the FEEL of those chords was hugely inspirational for a lot of modern artists.

Hearing someone really analyze and critique this song is so eye-opening for me. I was raised on rush and other rock artist of the time. I heard this so many times as a child that i know the words without even realizing it. I never thought to look into their music and study it as something more than an element of my childhood. Rush has become a huge part of my life and my brother’s life, and we adore their music. When i listen to rush now, i listen for the different instruments and the transitions and try to truly appreciate their talent.
I remember when I found out I married the perfect wife. Peggy came into our home theater room full of our teenagers hs friends playing rock band about 12 years ago, and she told them she’d sing any Rush song they could unlock. I never even knew she liked them. What a great night for our family and we all connected over singing Rush. I wish peace to Rush nation and RIP Neil, you’ll live on for many generations

God bless you. That's how HE pronounced it,....and that's fine by me....I loved when Paul Rudd was arguing with NP about how to pronounce HIS name....classic. ✌️😎
Overlooked one of their best lines of lyrics: "All the world's indeed a stage, and we are merely players, performers, and portrayers. Each another's audience, outside the gilded cage." RUSH is the thinking man's rock band!
Richard St.Denis that line and Lee’s delivery hits me in the heart every single time I hear it. Still brings me to the verge of tears and I’ve been listening to this album ever since it was released.
It's a paraphrase of the opening of one of Shakespeare's more well-known soliloquys. From 'As You Like It', Act 2. The concept of the world as a stage predates The Bard, going back to the ancient Romans.
i love it that you younger G's are exposing yourselves to different kinds of music i'm a OG brother and i've been in to these dudes problaby before you two were born ; l am a musician also and i also understand that you play too ? i would love to hear your stuff ; we are going to change black music ! also, understand geddy lee's singing is an aquired taste so always stick with stories ; oh , and the guitar players name is alex lifeson.
Every time I go to listen a Rush tune and hear Neil's drum lines and read the comments of how many lives were touched by these three men's music.... I cry.....every time....I think of how they gave voice to the way I thought and felt....like an outsider looking in on a society that had and still has no place for me..... I think of the first time I heard The Professor's drum work on Tom Sawyer.....you left an indelible mark on this world and many people in it! Rest in peace Sir! And peace and hugs and love to all of my fellow RUSH fans.
It is so gratifying to see younger people, and especially from other cultures/ethnicities, reacting so strongly to a band that has meant so much to me my whole life. Thank you guys!
Alex always plays "necessary" solos. Every note is precise and movement is calculated. He doesn't masturbate over his guitar like so many others do. He does that, yet remains one of the most creative guitarists in the business!
There is a great video by Alex explaining hi history as a guitarist, his career with Rush, and step by step visuals and explanations (some oddly funny, knowing what a great guitarist he is) on how he plays Limelight. I am not a guitarist )or musician) but i just loved it. He has 2 other videos (Tom Sawyer and Spirit of Radio - that one lost some sound tho URG!)
Your favourite bass player's favourite bass player and your favourite guitarist's favourite guitarist too. Basically your favourite band's favourite band.
The lyrics are deeper than the first read.. Neil was an avid reader on a multitude of topics: politics, sci-fi, philosophy.. it all comes through in his lyrics
@@maggegeneYeah, he definitely wasn't into the adulation thing. 'I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend.' He also said in the documentary that he was a huge fan of The Who, but he never felt like he wanted to follow the band around, go to their motel room after a show and hang out with them, etc. ua-cam.com/video/hil_2LyU7fo/v-deo.html
I am a pastor, and I LOVE "Limelight." When you are relentlessly expected to, and you even get paid to, SEEM sincere, sometimes it's hard to really BE sincere. I'm about 100% certain that that's not what Neil Peart was after when he wrote this song, but I groove on it. "Living in the limelight, the universal dream, for those who wish to SEEM. Those who wish to BE must put aside the alienation, and get on with the fascination, the real relation, the underlying theme." The lyrics, the lyrics... and that's not even thinking about the drums. RIP, Neil.
Christopher Gudmundsson I first listened to RUSH when was a teen in youth groups. They were known as “”Royal Union of Satans Helpers” in my youth circles. Then I heard Subdivisions. It was the point where I simply didn’t care what people thought. It was so honest, spoke right to the reality of teenage life. 38 years later, I still love both Jesus and RUSH
@@Brianbscotty I'm agnostic so I can't speak about about how Rush were felt in Christian circles, but my two best friends are deeply rooted in christianity and we shared our love for Rush in High School. Subdivisions spoke to me as a cast out at that age in time. It's almost like I wish we all had a forum to come together at that young age to know we weren't all alone.
I've been listening to Rush since the '70s, and I've always known them to be "musical mavericks, geniuses, and revolutionaries", with a sound so layered and epic, resulting in a flawless sound with more than poetic lyrics, I never thought them to be "cheesy" or "Disney-like". That's far from what they truly are.

@Liberty AboveAllElse I don't think they said honeydew in Tears? Tears was the sappy heartbreak song that Geddy wrote IIRC. I think better examples may be the cheesy (ngl kinda fun still) rap section of Roll the Bones, or Tai Shan (I think Geddy and Alex are both on record disliking that one too)
The joyful sound represents , the joy of living something that are only dreams of most. The lyrics and guitar solo, are about the discomfort of holding on to your own self and not molding to the expectations of everyone else! So a mix of joy and discomfort! A balance between the two.
"All the World's indeed a stage and we are merely players!" That line, obviously paraphrased from Shakespeare, is just perfect. Perfectly phrased and performed by Geddy.
When I was I kid I was blown away by the complexity of this band. Then I went to a concert and found out they were a trio. What's beyond being blown away?
In high school, I was in jazz band with this kid james and his dad was the drum coach. His name is Chad wackerman and apparently he did a drum battle with Neil once.
Geddy Lee - Vocals, Bass, Keyboards Alex Lifeson - Guitar Neil Peart - Drums and most of the lyrics, including this one. Neil often cited this as his most autobiographical song.
And can we talk about Geddy Lee's musicianship? In concerts, he sang while playing bass AND keyboards. Remarkable guy. His parents were Holocaust survivors who actually met as teens in the concentration camp, lost touch, then found each other again after they were liberated. Mind-blowing to think that if it weren't for the "Final Solution", this amazing band/music wouldn't exist.
Thx for uploading in lieu of being unable to film, guys. ❤️ My heart is broken 😢💔 I'm still in shock. Rock in Peace, Neil. ❤️ You've given us so many gifts throughout your undeniably phenomenal career & will continue to give throughout many more lifetimes. You're well known, along with your brothers Alex & Geddy, as one of the nicest, most down to earth & humble artists ever. You make us proud to be Rush fans through your reputation, brilliance, strength. Nothing but love for The Professor. ❤️🎶🇨🇦
I think that you speak for all of us who grew up listen to and loving Neil Peart and RUSH. Many flash back memories of Jr high school and high school and there is a certain feeling I get remembering those times back then when I hear RUSH. Neal is gone but he never be forgotten.
The lyrics are Neil's perspective on life and fame, but the biggest line is "I cannot pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend". Showing how shy he really was to his fans.
That line is so true. Imagine you are a celebrity and all these fan people think they know you so well. So well that they think they are your friend. I don't even know you, so you are not my friend.
All of the lyrics you refer to as “cheesy” were written by the drummer Neil Peart. The lyrics for this song was really personal for Peart because he had some sort of a phobia about meeting strangers. He was the only one in the group that refused to do the meet and greet sessions after a concert. Being around strangers made him extremely anxious, but he became famous, so there was a bit of a dichotomy in his life because strangers are always going to approach celebrities. The line in the song that goes, “I can’t pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend” kind of summed up his life. He claimed he couldn’t act like these strangers were his friend because he is too shy or embarrassed or he was just a snob, different people have different thoughts on his stand-offishness. Neil Peart passed away January 7, 2020 from a brain tumor he had been suffering with the last three years. RIP Neil, you were an inspiration to thousands of drummers, many who went on to be famous drummers themselves. I know you were one of my heroes and I’m a guitar player.
I was watching a documentary of Rush in Brazil in 2012, and Neil Peart explained that he flew in on a different flight that Alex & Geddy, and because of that he missed all of the fans at the airport. I laughed when he said 'which was fine by me." Actually it was the way he said it and I could tell he was trying to be humorous. I don't think Neil Peart had a problem with strangers in general, but rather he didn't like the excessive praise and being placed on a pedestal. During Neil Peart's hiatus he rode his motorcycle all over North and South America, and in so many small towns he would meet strangers that didn't know who he was and simply had long conversations with them.
Lost In Vegas were referring to the way Geddy sang the lyrics and the melody of them not the content. I don't agree with George but I understand his argument. If there is a "pop" part of Rush, it exists in the way Geddy crafts his melodies. I find it to be a very strong piece of what they did. The light melodies with heavy lyrics cooked into a rock song...AND with all three players COMPOSING the piece not just jamming or writing a song in one session...is part of what makes Rush great. Yes, they did occasionally write from the hip but most of their work was carefully constructed. For me, this is the definition of an artist; a careful and deliberate approach to their craft. The songs just don't pop out of nowhere and they are written by all the guys in the band with each bringing his special flavor to the piece. It's brilliant. This is why there are so few (if any) unreleased tracks.
Huge Rush fan, but...Neil has always resented the fame and attention and I say tuff shit.. no one said they have to sell music, no one said they had to tour. They could’ve made her music for themselves and only for themselves. They didn’t need to release it to the world, but they did and there is a cost for it. There’s nothing stopping that. So don’t complain, go back to the tractor supply counter and play drums at night. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. R.I.P Neil
rmhanseniii , that’s a rather hateful take. He was an introvert who struggled with the adulation and insecurity, which is surely what played a large part in making him strive to be both a great drummer and lyricist. All the accounts of what kind of person he was all talk about what a genuinely good person he was. Check out his books (Ghost Rider, in particular) to gain more insight into who he was as a person and what he went through. Rest In Peace, Neil.
When Rush is at their best they play four songs at once: the band’s composition and each individual instrument’s melody. So many times I’ve lost myself in a song that way and needed to rewind!
Imagine sitting in your bedroom as an awkward 14 year old with big headphones covering your ears listening to what Rush was giving us and thinking these are my people and this is everything to me right now! So many of us have been there. It was this amazing music & lyrics at a perfect time in our lives that have stayed with us as we grow older. RIP to the greatest drummer, lyricist, and author...the professor Neil Peart!
walkalittle , that’s a great way of putting it. I remember listening to Moving Pictures when I was 14 or 15 and just being blown away. I had only been playing drums and percussion for about three years at the time and it changed my life forever.
This album has the best Side 1 of any album in rock. Everyone has their opinions, but Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, and Limelight...it doesnt get any better IMO.
These songs are incredible, but the scary thing is they are not Rush's best. Hard to beat some of their more epic songs like 2112, Xanadu, Cygnus, Hemispheres, etc.
Also, don’t minimize Geddy Lee’s contribution. Dude sings with zero falsetto, plays bass like few ever have and plays the keyboards with his feet while onstage.
Probably not a fair comparison, but personally I've aways felt that Geedy's a more creative musician than Peart (RIP), technicality aside. Maybe that's because I'd take a flawed yet imaginative musician over a technical monster ANY day.
It’s crazy how poppy this song is, yet the time signature jumps all over the place. I can’t think of another song this radio friendly that jumps around so much in terms of beats per measure. ❤️
third video. and a must tell you both Great stuff. Also, I am 100% sure we would be great neighbors, fiends for life. You appreciate Rush. I will die for you. That is valuable in life.
Thanks guys for doing this! Been listening to a lot of Rush since Neil’s death and it’s wonderful to hear your unique take on one of my favourite bands ever. Keep it real, guys! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'm so happy you guys got back to Rush and you picked one of their greatest songs of the 80s era, if not of all time for them...Neil Peart wrote this song mostly about his own struggles with dealing with over zealous fans (he had fans show up unannounced & unwanted at his one one time). "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend" line in the song comes from what I believe is Neil Peart's aversion of meeting with people he doesn't know (I have long since seen that Neil has Aspergers Syndrome, because this is one trait indicative of being on the spectrum- I am an Aspie-hybrid myself). When Rush would do fan Meet & Greets, Neil almost always was absent from these meetings, unfortunately...you guys know I'm a big time Rush fanatic and you guys make me so happy for supporting one of the greatest & most influential bands of all time! (Drops mic & steps away from the Rush pulpit...) BTW, the lead guitarist is Alex Lifeson...this is arguably one of his best solos...
@@sugarshane8622 I'm not the one that made the claim that he had aspergers. Therefore, the burden of proof is on you, m8. And there's no need to be so hostile.
JEEEEZ, on another note, with a tear in my eye, We lost a GOAT! You truly were a genius.Through records, cassettes,CD's and a few concerts, i been listening for over 40 years and still a diehard fan. You will be greatly missed, RIP Neil...
Besides Neil’s poetic lyrics...his impeccable timing through various time signatures is what made Rush’s epic transitions possible....such a loss here....thank you for sharing
its amazing how many people truly loved the guy he was so inspiring, as close to a real life superhero as you will ever find but he was just a drummer in a rock band but he was really much much more, drummer was just his "clark kent" identity those words he wrote just became seared on your soul his thoughts just became part of who you are, especially if you started listening to them when you where really young, then you look back as an adult and realise the good things they put in your mind, and how really important it was that those things where there when you reach that age when shit gets hard you had something inside to help thats why so many people are gutted hes gone
It's a joy to observe y'all discovering the magic of Rush as it slowly dawns on you. I much appreciate the common bond we all share regarding the appreciation of great musical craftsmanship.
In this sound, Neil Peart wants to show only his music and not be a star. He sought to live in a humble and simple manner without worrying about stardom. He just wanted to express his music and did it with mastery ... Thanks for your lyrics, for your talent, thanks for everything, Professor!
"The real relation." The music may seem corny to you, but, for those of us growing up in the 70's and 80's, they were the storytelling soundtrack of our teen years. Imagine a bunch of teens after school smoking a bowl or at a weekend party and getting our minds blown listening to these storytellers; RUSH, Led Zep, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath. I almost feel sorry for kids today. They're deep and poetic,
Different mindset from when I grew up in the '80s these lyrics are amazing. I don't know how he can compare them to Disney films nowadays. Like I said different mindset.
@@calebjames7444 I wasn't saying anything disrespectful about Rush. But Rush isn't anywhere near the popularity of Collins. I agree that there's no comparison on skill and virtuosity, but for popularity, I bet Collins sold more copies of that single than all of Rush's singles combined.
@@21CCommunIT Well it kinda describes what being a geek and a teenager used to be like i guess so i can kind of see it but otherwise yes, it seems more suited to loners and outcasts.
Mike van buren good observation. I think Camera eye also from MP has a vestige of melancholy. How oblivious to our surroundings people can be in big cities and carry grim faces.
I like to think my taste in music is diverse as I like hip hop, metal, funk, EDM, etc. When I saw Rush live it changed live music for me... Everything from the wall of sound and visuals, it was nothing short of amazing. I was blown away that 3 guys could put out so much sound. This was like early 2000s.
These guys just like to hear themselves talk
Richard St.Denis that line and Lee’s delivery hits me in the heart every single time I hear it. Still brings me to the verge of tears and I’ve been listening to this album ever since it was released.
Shakespeare. That's Neil for you though.
Exactly. Thankyou
It's a paraphrase of the opening of one of Shakespeare's more well-known soliloquys. From 'As You Like It', Act 2. The concept of the world as a stage predates The Bard, going back to the ancient Romans.
I just love how that solo comes in and just pierces through you. It is very beautiful and ethereal.
You will never be forgotten, Neil. My father was a huge Rush fan and he passed the torch to me...and you better be sure I'll do the same.
i love it that you younger G's are exposing yourselves to different kinds of music i'm a OG brother and i've been in to these dudes problaby before you two were born ; l am a musician also and i also understand that you play too ? i would love to hear your stuff ; we are going to change black music ! also, understand geddy lee's singing is an aquired taste so always stick with stories ; oh , and the guitar players name is alex lifeson.
My brother too he loved the "slurps" on the drums by Niel.
It’s been 4 days since we found out Neil left us. I’m still in tears. 😭
Me too. And then to read everyone's comments. Loved by All!
Yeah, we will not bounce back from this anytime soon.
Frank Holstein
And we won’t have a drummer to help us
get any lift...😭
Right?
The guitarist is Alex Lifeson and this is one of my favorite guitar solos of his. He is unbelievable.
I wonder why Alex didn't get a solo in on Mahattan Project?
It's a great guitar solo.
Very Allan Holdsworth influenced, but great nevertheless.
He is amazing - often overlooked because of the other two - my favorite guitarist
“Your favourite drummer’s favourite drummer. “
Well said
Your favourite bass player's favourite bass player and your favourite guitarist's favourite guitarist too. Basically your favourite band's favourite band.

Funny seeing you here
The lyrics are deeper than the first read.. Neil was an avid reader on a multitude of topics: politics, sci-fi, philosophy.. it all comes through in his lyrics
it's actually a dark song, about Peart's shyness and fear of strangers.
Peart actually said once that he didn't like the fact that fans treated him like they had some ownership of him. RIP Prof.
Yep. A self admitted introvert. Thanks for everything Neil. Rip
It’s also about the reality and consequences of fame.
@Mybiz Yep. Introverted, not shy.
Christopher Gudmundsson I cant think of a more brilliant, profound, honest lyricist

💥THE GIRL WHO LISTENED TO RUSH💥
From the back of the stadium
She’s easy to see
Standing up at the stage
In her Starman tee
From Anthem to Limelight
To YYZ
She’s the girl who listened to Rush
And all of the rockers
And all of the heshers
Well they dreamed of the day
That they might get her
And drive her away
In a Red Barchetta
She’s the girl who listened to Rush
Philosophers and ploughmen
They can’t resist her call
They cannot choose
Not to decide
So they've got no choice at all
They've gotta love her
No she doesn’t say "Pert"
And she doesn’t say "Part"
Yeah, she knows it’s "Neil Peert"
‘Cause he’s close to her heart
Say a prayer for John Rutsey
He was there at the start
She’s the girl who listened to Rush
Philosophers and ploughmen
They can’t resist her call
They cannot choose
Not to decide
So they've got no choice at all
They've gotta love her
Why don’t girls ever listen to Rush?
But she listened to Rush!
The blacksmith and the artist
They can’t resist her call
You cannot choose
Not to decide
So you’ve got no choice at all
No you’ve got no choice at all
You’ve gotta love her

I'm a huge Rush fan but I'll admit they do sometimes sound a bit cheesy. I mean remember Tears?
@Liberty AboveAllElse I don't think they said honeydew in Tears? Tears was the sappy heartbreak song that Geddy wrote IIRC.
I think better examples may be the cheesy (ngl kinda fun still) rap section of Roll the Bones, or Tai Shan (I think Geddy and Alex are both on record disliking that one too)
I’ve heard this song a thousand times over. The guitar solo section brought me to tears.. rest easy Neil Peart. Thank you so very much.
I felt that too. First time I've heard it since Neil passed. So moving.
Stephen Manocchio yeah man. This was and is a hard one.
I'd love to hear your reaction to Rush's "Subdivisions."
The lyrics to that had major impact on my life.
Tells the story of my teenage years.
Excellent
I FEEL Subdivisions ❤
Neal kicks more ass in the last 30 seconds of Subdivisions than most drummers do in their whole careers.
The joyful sound represents , the joy of living something that are only dreams of most. The lyrics and guitar solo, are about the discomfort of holding on to your own self and not molding to the expectations of everyone else! So a mix of joy and discomfort! A balance between the two.
Listened to Rush all day at work today. R.I.P Neil
"All the World's indeed a stage and we are merely players!" That line, obviously paraphrased from Shakespeare, is just perfect. Perfectly phrased and performed by Geddy.
The best quote on Neil Peart in the last week was, "Neil Peart is your favorite drummer's, favorite drummer."
It hurt my heart..rip ..the drummer's drummer
When I was I kid I was blown away by the complexity of this band. Then I went to a concert and found out they were a trio. What's beyond being blown away?
Beyong blown away is a 'rush"
RIP neil peart. IMO technically the best drummer of all time
idk about technically but definitely had the most influence on the other insane technical drummers
In high school, I was in jazz band with this kid james and his dad was the drum coach. His name is Chad wackerman and apparently he did a drum battle with Neil once.
@@movietimeateds69 Chad is an incredible drummer. One of Zappa's players.
@@honuman39 yep! One of the few drummers he trusted to play the black page.
This is a masterpiece but so is roughly half, if not more of Rushs' catalog. I'm always happy to see a new Rush reaction.
Yep. You'd be hard-pressed to find filler on any album Rush put out.
@Morbid Angel is better than Death In the words of Jeff Lebowski: "that's just, like, your opinion, man."
@Morbid Angel is better than Death Even your username is an opinion no one asked for, written there only to seek attention. You're worthless buddy.
Yeah. Me too. Fine analysis, gentlemen.
For me, a "masterpiece" has to be truly great from start to finish, every single song. Moving Pictures and Hemispheres meet that definition.
Geddy Lee - Vocals, Bass, Keyboards
Alex Lifeson - Guitar
Neil Peart - Drums and most of the lyrics, including this one.
Neil often cited this as his most autobiographical song.
Neil Peart literally defined his own life and death in this song... Great choice guys for this one!
Martin McPherson Well said Martin!
Karen K , Geddy’s parents story is amazing! Look up his interview with Dan Rather where he discusses it, assuming you haven’t seen it already.
@@crackers472 Thank you, I will!
That’s the beauty of the song. It’s happy, it’s playing the part he’s talking about in the lyrics. So meta. Love it.

My heart is broken 😢💔 I'm still in shock.
Rock in Peace, Neil. ❤️ You've given us so many gifts throughout your undeniably phenomenal career & will continue to give throughout many more lifetimes. I think that you speak for all of us who grew up listen to and loving Neil Peart and RUSH. Many flash back memories of Jr high school and high school and there is a certain feeling I get remembering those times back then when I hear RUSH. Neal is gone but he never be forgotten.
Rest In Peace Neil Peart I am blessed to have witnessed your gift in person!
This is one of their most commonly played tunes on classic rock radio, love it
This one hit me hard :( Neil Peart was an idol of mine.
Wolv - An awful lot of actors, musicians, and other famous people approached him about those lines. He summed it up for them and himself really well.
Personally I think they're incredibly deep lyrics, he's speaking from his own point of view. This guy never wrote 'cheesy' lyrics. GTFO
I thought that Emerson Lake n Palmer guy wrote limelight....🤔?!?..no?
Great reaction as always guys! You missed a fantastic opportunity to make this video 21:12 in length.
Rest In Peace Neil Peart!!
nothing cheesy about their lyrics whatsoever - deeply meaningful poetry. Neil Peart wrote this to reflect his feelings about living in the limelight.
Gents,
Listen to the entire album. You all would dig it.
Not one bad or filler song on MP.
This song is about Neil and his need to be private and while being famous.
Yes the "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend." line was attributed to him.
R.I.P Neil
Fan is short for fanatic and everyone should be scared of fanatics.
rmhanseniii , that’s a rather hateful take.
I was quoting Neil "Fan is short for fanatic" The rest is mine.

walkalittle , that’s a great way of putting it.
The Great Gazoo it’s epic, unique, and perfect!
These songs are incredible, but the scary thing is they are not Rush's best. Hard to beat some of their more epic songs like 2112, Xanadu, Cygnus, Hemispheres, etc.

The lyrics “all the world’s a stage” is Shakespeare. From the play As You Like It.
You guys have to do Rush’s “Tom Sawyer”. The grooves in that song are tough. Crazy iconic drum breakdown.
Neil always said that Tom Sawyer was a challenge for him every time he played it.
A fun fact, Tom Sawyer is pretty popular in Brazil because it was used in the MacGyver opening
They've both heard Tom Sawyer before, iirc
They said before that they had already heard Tom Sawyer
Also, don’t minimize Geddy Lee’s contribution. Dude sings with zero falsetto, plays bass like few ever have and plays the keyboards with his feet while onstage.
He uses a pedal bass. When using the keyboards
@@passingthru69 Still playing 2 instruments and singing. He's like the swiss army knife of Rush. RIP Mr. Peart.

Your remarks about the meaning of the lyrics are spot on. Fame is a two edged sword.
The Garden is Rush"s last song, and with Neil Peart's passing last Tuesday, the lyrics are enhanced.
That's a great song 👍
(Drops mic & steps away from the Rush pulpit...)
BTW, the lead guitarist is Alex Lifeson...this is arguably one of his best solos...
You might be right about the aspie thing. Imagine how many undiagnosed people are out there. And many of them are INTP.

its amazing how many people truly loved the guy
he was so inspiring, as close to a real life superhero as you will ever find
but he was just a drummer in a rock band
but he was really much much more, drummer was just his "clark kent" identity
those words he wrote just became seared on your soul
his thoughts just became part of who you are, especially if you started listening to them when you where really young, then you look back as an adult and realise the good things they put in your mind, and how really important it was that those things where there
when you reach that age when shit gets hard you had something inside to help

They're deep and poetic,
For me it was in the cab of a buddy's pick up truck, drinking lots of beer underage, while Rush tape after Rush tape blared from his stereo.
Storytellers, exactly
Different mindset from when I grew up in the '80s these lyrics are amazing. I don't know how he can compare them to Disney films nowadays. Like I said different mindset.
That whole album is great!!
