When I went to basic, someone left the sink on so as a corrective training, the drill sergeant took away "sink privilages" to fill up the mop bucket so we had to sweat enough to make the floor wet for like 3 days. we would run up and down the stairs with the doors closed to keep it hot. we got sink privilages back when we started getting consistent heat casualties, and that was our drill sergeant's method of determining who would be a heat cat risk for the remainder of osut.

My buddy however...he was our armory recruit and this was during our one hour of free time every night and our Drill Instructors were having a company wide meeting for all the DI’s in our duty hut. And the armory recruit had no idea this was happening and he pounded on the hatch to simply return the armory key. It was like a clown car of Drill Instructors flooding out of the Duty Hut and blasting hun, unbuttoning his blouse and spitting all over his face. I counted at least 15 DI’s blasting him and my Senior came out with a fat dip in his mouth with a huge grin on his face. All he said was “ZERO!” And they stopped and retreated back into the Duty Hut. @James Reitsch that is completely and utterly false, russia has been phasing out conscription from the army and has beem focusing on creating a volunteer professional army just like the US, there has been no instance ever where the soviet or russian doctrine has been throwing people away for no reason.
@James Reitsch Yeah because when you're not ready for war you usually take higher casualties. Plus the Soviet Union only had 8 million KIA, the Germans had 4 million. Proportional to population, German military casualties were all lot worse. The majority of the Soviet Union's casualties came at the beginning of the Eastern Front due to massive German encirclements and that only occurred because of Germany's element of surprise. The Soviets were not prepared for the war but once the first winter hit and the Germans had to halt, the Soviet war machine was in full swing. The Soviet military at its max was better than the Germans at their max it just took the Soviet Union longer to reach it. The Soviet military strategy was quite brilliant actually. Just look at the Battle of Stalingrad, where the Soviets encircled an entire German army because they knew the German rear guard was weaker. It was made up of Romanian, Hungarian, and Italian forces. The Soviets used a two-pronged attack which forced them to flee allowing them to encircle the entire city before the Germans could leave. There is a reason the Soviets won the Eastern front and not the Germans.
@James Reitsch With Germany only losing 5.5 million troops in the war, losing 4 million to just the Russians is kind of a lot lol. Soviets killed 80% of the German military.

And...we still shoot weapon for training in our basic so. @@Dodgers-sw2uk the little things can kill
It honestly didn't phase me. It mostly confused me the first time. It was funny tho, we watched a kid go up to the chow line for a second plate. And the drills sergeants swarmed him, couldn't see the kid no more. A drill sergeant got so pissed that he couldn't get to the kid he just picked up a huge tuff box and started slamming it while screaming. Then they continued to make the kid get food on the plate and stand in front of everyone and repeat "I am a battle buddy fucker."
@@anothercaw My situation was little different because my ship date was a week after my cycle started. So I got the initial shark attack from another unit. Then the 1st Sgt from that unit tells 4 different DS to step forward and the small group that I was in to go with them. Apparently they were our DS and we belonged to a different company. Not the one we had shipped with. So they took us to a different part of the Battalion and we did our thing. But like I said we showed up a week into the cycle. So we didn't experience that first week of red phase. We didn't have to go through the first chow or the first wake up or nothing like that. lol We just had to go through the part where we got yelled at and thrown ever which was getting off the bus. Which while confusing and a tad nerve wracking wasn't really the worst thing in the world.
I loved it lol years after getting out the army I look back and smile
Graduated Basic in Feb 78 and retired in 2000. Damn I am glad I was privileged enough to serve in the real Army.
"Kinder and gentler"
Never thought I'd hear someone want that for the military
Ah yes, the finest fighting force the United States has to offer will be so kind and gentle that the enemy will lose all resolve and be forced to lay down their arms out of respect for their calm adversaries. NOT!!!

That motto actually had strength and meaning in it. The hell am I supposed to feel in the words "Army Strong"? Honestly sounds like it was drawn up by an out of touch old man. Ngl kinda cringe.
@DJ az pink The Navy was the only Basic Training that attempted to issue a stress card or " flag ". It failed in the first cycle and was removed.

@DJ az pink Never saw any stress card while I was in Navy Basic
@DJ az pink I mean sure, Im all for pokeing fun on the Army guys but it's gone from parody to just being sad.
The fact that the Drill Sergeant didn’t correct the PVT for not standing at parade rest for SMA tells you everything you need to know about the current state of our force.
More like what drill thinks of the CSMA
Damn right! Shark attack ABSOLUTELY would have had that instilled prior to
On the flip side, at least we know how easy the fight will be when the left tries to use the military against the civilian population of the US.
Thank god someone said it I'm like wtf am I seeing here smh 04" Lennard Wood baby here, I have lost all faith in the great army I served in and loved..
That's just the drill, I just made it through BCT and I know for a fact if we pulled dumb shit like that, we'd all get fucked up, I was battle buddying someone for therapy and when I was away no one called at ease to the battalion CSM, and apparently, they went through the worst smoke session ever with their M4's. Mainly depends on what post/company/drill sergeants you get I know I didn't get the best pull for any of those. I was also internally panicking for that entire company when that trainee wasn't standing at parade rest for the SMA of all people.

Huh, makes me wonder if back in 2011 when I went through basic if I experience a prot-type of the first 100 yards... Yeah we got smoked the shit out of and yelled at, but we also had only 30 seconds to get everyone's dufflebag off of an LMTV and get back in formation.
I'm not opposed to this type of training, but it should be an addition to the training, not subtracting the actual shark attack!

I’m willing to bet that the Russians and Chinese aren’t doing the same thing
@James Reitsch that is completely and utterly false, russia has been phasing out conscription from the army and has beem focusing on creating a volunteer professional army just like the US, there has been no instance ever where the soviet or russian doctrine has been throwing people away for no reason.
@James Reitsch Yeah thats totally wrong. They didn't even do that in WW2, it's just a misconception. Thats only a thing in movies.
Arthur Stanciu hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha yikes
