This question has already been settled in For Honor on PC. We vikings won every faction war for at least as long as I played it, and I was in the game for years. Vikings conquer all.
I think that chainmail would give a Viking a huge advantage over a Samurai of the same time period. (excluding later samurai who had access to firearms).
Just saw this documentary Antony... that art work for viking vs samurai is spectacular... if its an anime it would be one I would definitely watch, I will check them out too simply based off the artwork. The documentary was really good, perfect for someone who loves learning about warrior cultures, I really liked hearing your take on how viking and samurai would fare against each other; which reminded me about reading somewhere that the japanese at one point said "don't teach people from the west our martial arts cause they're physically superior" those weren't the exact words but something along those lines. It was a real treat to see both of you in the same room together at the end of the documentary, would absolutely love to hear both of you narrate more! Reminds me of David Attenborough. Looking forward to see more collabs with you and John in the future in one form or another.
I think we actually have decent comparison for this question with the Mongolian invasion of Japan. The Japanese would definitely earn the respect of the Norsemen, but like the Mongols, i think the vikings would at least impact the samurai so heavily they would change. The reason i say they are similar is that if you put a viking on a horse and give him similar training to the Mongols, you honestly have the Rohirm in lord of the rings 😂. As the Norse are germanic in origin, their ancestors at one point were stepp people as well.
This is a fun undertaking, for sure. 😁👍👍 My own thoughts... Say it was a small viking and a large bushi... meaning both men were roughly the same size... and they had roughly equivalent gear... I think it would just come down to the individual men. Which one just happened to be the better combatant. I feel like that's what these questions usually boil down to. I need to watch this documentary.
If the Viking was much bigger and just as skilled with his weapons as thew Samurai is, then I would choose the Viking, The only way I see a Samurai beating a viking, is if the viking is poorly trained or is injured.
Really good question I'll check out the video. I would say single combat with regular weapons & without armor Samurai but with their own armor it's 50/50 & Army vs Army Man vs Man with no Calvay or Archers I would have to give it to the Vikings but with Calvary & Archers would be another 50/50

Winner is the one who isn't stabbed in the back.
Absolutely this is a great comparison

That is very interesting will check it out, both are highly skilled warriors in single combat and as a whole unit
Thank you very much, I think the culture is very different but it will be balanced.

Well id say it depends on if the vikings or the samurai are black
