Samurai have been called a death cult, and it's true. They contemplated their own death as daily meditation and considered death in combat the only goal worth obtaining, a close second being the honor of taking the head of a worthy opponent. The crazy bastards groomed themselves before every battle so that of their head was taken they would not be dishonored by a disheveled appearance.
Aside from being a fascinating piece of history, it's also a good showcasing of why attacking a large island nation with a warrior-culture is an absolute pain.
@@dylanmartin2890 Im not sure you can say that based on the video. In fact the opposite is much more likely. Initially 1000 equipped and prepared Mongol soldiers attacked an unprepared Japanese coastal region. A force they thought large enough to take southern Japan. Yet the Japanese fought the Mongols off and got them to retreat. The next wave was of 3x as large, so 3000 mongols but this time against a prepared and armed shogunate. I think it would have been a heavy victory for the Japanese. Especially given that they are not only better equipped, better trained and know the terrain and have access to abundant resources, e.g. food, etc. They also had a culture that did not fear death. I think the Mongols more than met their match here.

Woah! I'm watching every History Dose video from oldest to newest, and this feels like the start of a new era of even better quality. The graphics now feel like I'm in one of those 3D presentation rides at an amusement park. It's like I'm in a vehicle on a track in a dark hallway, that's telling a story as it goes along. Images are on the wall and lit up with glowy lights; and when an important moment in the story happens, the vehicle stops and a spotlight illuminates one of those "hologram" animations to convey it. That's what this video feels like. I'm really looking forward to watching the rest of these vids. Even though the quality is incredible, I will not take it for granted, and will still super enjoy them if they have more basic graphics. It was awesome and scary seeing such a realistic portrayal of the Samurai and how they fought. Archery was super important to them, which I wasn't expecting. The pride-based culture of requiring evidence for who they killed really adds that historical Japanese flair to them, and it was real too. Including the storm's impact made the story more realistic, because real war isn't just about the heroes, it's also largely about the conditions and using them to your advantage.

The Ghost of Tsushima. The real historical fact is that the Mongols destroyed the Japanese army quickly and occupied several islands. Unfournatly they lost to the weather, not to the samurai. The Mongol fleet was destroyed by the typhoon and the Japanese luckily saved. That was why the Japanese were worshiping the Typhoon and called it as Kamikaze( the wind from god). During world war two, the Japanese imperial army also named its suicide attack plane as kamikaze.

Mongols: *Conquers Russia in the dead of winter when they're supposed to be on a scouting mission* Also Mongols: *Throws 4000 ships directly onto the ocean floor because they didn't learn their lesson the first time*
Because Russia was conquered by Golden Horde, which was ruled by Batu Khan, where majority of warriors were nomads (Turks, Tatars). They were one nation. Japan was invaded by Yuan Mongol Empire, which was ruled by Kublai Khan, where nomads were minority. Koreans and Chinese were majority, they were not one nation, they even spoke on different languages. Tactics and skills were different. There were three generals(Mongolian, Korean, Chinese) and they worked separately without one systematic plan, also they didn’t have enough experience on naval battle. On the other hand, Golden Horde’s army fought as one unified mechanism. They perfectly knew how to fight in field. And they also knew how to conquer Russia because their ancestors had done it many times.
You have to acknowledge a fact that there was no Russia back in those days, only different little medieval kingdoms inside of it, most of the time at war between themselves.

More students in school would be interested in history if they teach more epic battles like this instead of what some random civilisation used to eat or some other boring shit
As a teacher (not a history teacher, though), I've always thought that it would be cool to teach history as stories instead of just textbook facts. Some teachers try to, but it's not as common as it maybe should be. Imagine learning about the Mongol Empire or the Shogunate by hearing the story of a hypothetical individual person involved in the battles. And what they might have experienced, and their feelings about it based on their culture, or what they were protecting back home, or who they served. That's really the best way to learn history, I think. Humans relate so strongly to stories, and that's why games/movies about history are popular.
Yeah, it was a clever way for the game to give an explanation as to why Khotun and the Ghost aren't referenced in history. For within the game's story, Khotun's invasion was ultimately a failure, and so the Mongols never acknowleged him following the events. And as for the Ghost, he was considered dishonorable amongst the Shogun, therefore he too would not be recorded in history.

Samurai have been called a death cult, and it's true. The crazy bastards groomed themselves before every battle so that of their head was taken they would not be dishonored by a disheveled appearance.

The mongols stayed for months around Japan looking for a place to land so it's not that surprising a typhoon would eventually hit in a place with a lot of typhoons

A lot of them are hypocrites and rejoices in violence.
@ profile pic has nothing to do with Japan 😂 you call me a ‘weeb’ which is funny, fully considering I’m a native and the Japanese populous is what brought the term weeb abroad. Hate anime personally, but there sure is an audience for it. As for WWII, the Samurai were not the typical warrior, as by that point it was simply ceremonial. The honor in their ways was deceased by this point. Perry (a mid 1800’s explorer of trade) re-established trade forcefully corresponding with the other hemisphere. That is when the death of the Shogunite and Samurai began, all being wiped clean by the late 1870’s.

Cause Mongolia is also a cold country. Winter not a problem for them. Ulan Bator is the coldest capital in world.
They didn't get destroyed by winter. They got destroyed by storms. The Mongols probably had no experience in facing against severe storms.

American history taught in the classroom in three words .... ‘white man bad’.
@@SMaamri78 oh so the real version of history hurts your feeling ?

Right.

Just before he killed him, the Ghost told Khotun Khan that history would not remember his name.
@Char Mate
I was explaining the ingame reasoning. Obviously I wasn't claiming it was based on true events
@Char Mate how dumb are you ???
@Char Mate duuuuude you have to play it. It's sooo gooooddd
They depicted Jin as the first ninja really awesome how they did that.
This video is AMAZING. Ghost of Tsushima just opened thousands to the world of ancient Japan. I love this game so much and I wish SuckerPunch made more games
Ghost of tsushima made me look into even more history and stories from ancient japan. The history of japan is just the most interesting there is
Right like the game is so fucking beautiful
They've got Sly Cooper and the Infamous games.
Look up Yasuke, the first black samurai... apparently Nobunaga a warlord at the time befriended him and thought he was a God lol
they take time, thats why their games are good.

@@WahyuSetiawan-sz4lc Khotun Khan was just an emissary general sent by Kubolai Khan, or Khaghan as he should be called, to take over Japan. They could always have a different Khan enter the stage in the second invasion for GoT 2 on ps5 😄

*proceeds to get boink by superspeed Act 3 mongols*

Imagine if Sucker Punch made another Open World Samurai game.
But the time period is the Sengoku Jidai Period.
I would love to buy more of their game then also the Sucker Punch would be one of my favorite game studio next to the CD Projeck Red.
With Muskets and Nobunaga
I'll happily spend my money

Yup
That thumbnail was extremely misleading.
I feel like everyone after playing ghost of tsushima discountes how actually brilliant the mongols were in their tactical know how
Hahaha
They were terrifyingly skilled warriors with experienced leadership and numbers to match.
yeah lol, I played the game before we talked about it in class and I was like "Huh? The Mongols are actually not stupid?" bc in the game istg the mongols NEVER see me lol
I kill them In less than 3 hits that’s nots very tactical

Literally.
The sailing of those Japanese small boats towards the mongol ships under barrage of arrows must have been a sight to see. It demonstrated the true spirit of the Samurai.

Ghost of Tsushima is a top contender for Game of The Year.
El Bottoo bag last of us aint gonna do that good just cause of the story
Ac valhalla beats this game alone. Then you have cyberpunk to come... this aint shit
El Bottoo neither TLOU2 nor FF7 come close to Ghost.
El Bottoo the last of us 2 won’t win anything. Everything about that games story is trash.
@El Bottoo don't even mention that shitshow tlou2 is worst goty😂😂 goty is cyberpunk, maybe ghost gets a mention.

5:40 Holy shit I just realized how big the mongol empire was. It goddamn covered the entirety of middle and eastern Asia. I always took it for granted when my history teachers said the Mongolian empire was one of the biggest ever. I now realize how much of an idiot i was.
at it heights its extended from asia to europe too.
There is allways one BIGGEST empire in the world, technicly its now EU, but it is falling apart.
The laws just dont work cross; the ones that work in the south, dont work in the north.
