    Clear and appreciable as usual !
    Personally I think that for no-race crawling it's more funny to use that channel/servo/gearbox feature to have a 2 speed transmission (that helps in much more situation and gives a more realistic driving).

    Basically what I do with my cars E-Brake in the winter, lol.
    It's fun to yank on the e-brake, punch the gas, and slide your front end around to do what would otherwise be a multipoint turn.

    Very cool for maneuvering! For that last scenario with the super steep climb, Dig doesn't seem effective at all. I understand you're using it to prevent tipover but you're also not making any headway. Seems like overdriven front axle would have been better. Or how about overdriven front and ~25% drag on the rear axle?? Not sure how that would be set up but that seems ideal for most situations like that.
    Love your channel btw 👍

    Nice explanation. At 2:54 your truck is making a lot of noise but no wheels are turning. How can the motor be moving without the wheels - is it slipping a slipper or something? Or is that just electrical whine from the motor and ESC but the motor isn't actually turning?

  • @billderas3420

    When a crawler is setup with significant overdrive/underdrive gearing and is attempting to sidehill a steep section, I find that the dig's "freewheeling" option (third position) can be a very useful tool. Instead of having overdriven front wheels drag along the underdriven rear wheels through a sidehill section in 4WD mode, letting the rear wheels "freewheel" helps the rear to follow the front better by not slipping downward as the crawler progresses on the side slope. Although I only need to use "freewheeling" ocassionally, it can be a useful option when sidehilling with an overdrive/underdrive geared crawler.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 роки тому +1

      That is a good point. That way, one is not dragging the rear tires. A 2nd drug for the side effect of the 1st.

  • @northsandiegorc4248
    @northsandiegorc4248 4 роки тому +1

    You can also set dig so it does not lock rear wheels but merely disconnects them. That would allow you to climb better and not be held back by rear wheels being locked. Your descending issue would also be fixed and improved as the rear wheels would still have traction and not slide but torque can be applied to front wheels.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, we've tried freewheeling the rear wheels with dig since our rigs our capable of that. I would say 10/10... it just leads to failure. Descending... no chance since one just loses all that rear braking power. Climbing, it really has not helped. Can change the position of the vehicle sometimes but really causes more harm than good.

    Dig can certainly be very useful. But it might be good to note that it is only legal in class 3 SORRCA rules. Class 1 + 2 it is not allowed.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 роки тому +2

      Exactly. And there is the irony. It is not allowed in Class 1 and 2. Class 3, these vehicles have no chance since those are ultimate specialized crawlers

    • @ericshanahan8296
      @ericshanahan8296 4 роки тому

      RC Review Exactly. That was my point. They would have zero chance against class 3 builds. So the dig is fun, it is useful in certain situations, but if your going to Comp with that truck as a class 1 or 2( the only classes it might have a chance in) you would need to lock out the dig.

    Dig has 3 positions 4wd free wheel and locked. The hill decent should have been in the free wheeled position and not locked in the rock line chosen for video.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 роки тому

      We've tried that many times and the vehicle just rolls down out of control. No brakes on the rear means much less braking power which is crucial on the steepest descents.

  • @johnfaustus1
    @johnfaustus1 2 роки тому

    It is rather unfortunate (and confusing) that the RC (and to some extent, the full-size) crawling community has chosen to use the word 'locked' here, in reference to a DIG/dig unit. The traditional meaning of 'locked' as it pertains to a transmission is in reference to preventing a differential from applying a differential torque to either out-drive (it's intended purpose) - that is, both outdriven wheels are locked to one another and there is no differential in torque applied wrt either; but both wheels are free to turn. Perhaps 'hand-brake' or 'rear-braked' is a more sensible choice, but alas...

    • @motorbreathjz
      @motorbreathjz 2 роки тому

      its locked none the less.. the output shaft is locked.. no power to the ring and pinion (diff) so it can be referenced as locked.. why not.. i mean you cant spin the side gears (output shafts) with the dig in that position.. just the way it is.. same thing with posi.. people reference posi in none GM diffs lol.. but the point is made at the end of the day..
