I must be a glutton for punishment... I've started using KeyTronic Foam & Foil boards at work and at home. I did grease the sliders.... made for a huge improvement in the switch feel. They wouldn't be any good for gaming, but for touch typing I find they work great. I like the light force, and early switch activation in the slider travel. These Q&A videos are great - looks like you have fun making them too!
The video not ending with "and here's a demonstration of me typing on this(or a) keyboard" makes it feel so out of place... Either way, love your videos, keep up the great work!

As for the question, which of the following is more heretical? a) Salvaging an old TRS 80 with tall cream alps for a 40% keyboard build b) Placing a raspberry pi into a TRS 80 and adapting the internal keyboard to it, creating essentially a newer version of the older computer
Okay, you did it. You made me log in to like this video. Normally I only do it to comment or upload, give or take every other blue moon. Also, props for reminding me of my own question and even answering it!
What kind of magic are you using to achieve so little background noise on the voice recording? The room does not really look sound treated and you don't exactly speak close to the microphone.
nice video :) You should try out an old IBM T60 as a laptop. They are quite cheap when bought used, and have a great keyboard in my opinion (easily the best non-mechanical laptop keyboard). And you can buy them with great high-res 4:3 screens. Just look out for one without an ATI video card, because these break more often. I fucking love my T60 (i have a 2007 model with a 15 inch screen and the ATI x1400 card). The keyboard has no flex at all, and a really nice deep sound because of the metal backplate. starting with the T61, these backlplates are a lot thinner. Greetings from Germany
I have a T420 and I can attest. I think the T420/X220 is the last model with that keyboard and it's definitely the nicest one I've used. Too bad the screen is terrible, though they can apparently be swapped out for nicer panels relatively easily.
I believe the interesting keyboards comes from an innate need to have the best possible thing connecting you to whatever you're doing. a keyboard and mouse are the only ways that connect you to a computer, as you can't just plug in your hands and type away into thin air. You need a keyboard and/or mouse to control a computer, and having the best one possible would make the computer seem better. If you have a crappy computer but a nice keyboard it's an enjoyable experience to just type, but if you have a very nice computer, but no good keyboard. It will be miserable.
I have the same opinion about touch typing. I've been typing without looking at a keyboard for years, and I can reach about 50wpm in English, and 65wpm in Polish, so I manage... it's enough for me to rather keep typing at this pace to earn money instead of spending time trying to learn how to type "properly". Also, in Poland ANSI also pushed out the ISO layout around the time PC's have become affordable and popular. ISO keyboards are purchasable here only in the form of US Int'l Logitechs - I actually have one like this...
You're the very first UA-camr from the Netherlands that doesn't immediately reveal their nationality by their accent. Now I need to know your source for all these board in our small country.

What's your take on click modded Orange alps? I'm always torn between how good they feel and messing with the best tactile switch. It's like a subtler Monterrey, but there is so few of them :-(
Eeeeh, touch-typing in QWERTY? That always seemed rather pointless to me too. I'm sure there is some advantage to avoiding the anatomically weaker fingers as well. (That said, I've been touch-typing Dvorak for about 20 years and it's too late for me to go back now.) Brilliant channel, BTW. :)
The only keyboards I don't completely hate on laptops (that I've tried) are the slightly older model Thinkpads from Lenovo. Mine is a T420. Highly repairable, parts everywhere, and under 200 bucks.
