I agree that the market basically tricked consumers that MX type switches are the definition of mechanical. I remembered thinking they were the only ones as Tech Quickie described only mech keyboards. Then I saw a Tek Syndicate video where they brought up buckling springs, searched up if they are currently made, finding Unicomp. I wanted to see a review so I searched UA-cam and found your video. And then the rest is history. You are the reason why I know about Alps.
Ah, old Logan, such a classy guy. Anyway, Chyros was the reason I found out good, meaty info on my Acer switch keyboard, the Viglen video was the very first Chyros video I watch and I still remember it to this day. I have loved every single one of his videos since then.
Doesn't help that they successfully tricked consumers into thinking MX Blues were "built for gaming" despite the hilariously high hysteresis. A lot of above-average gamers in say, osu!, tend to have problems with their modern MX boards not even 5 years later. Not sure if its osu! killing the boards, or modern MX being dodgy in comparison to older ones. The MX community seems to have the "cult of Apple" syndrome. Where when any problem does exist, even if its a legitimate problem of the switch itself, the user will be blamed instead of the product being, well, mediocre.

What's funny is that I used to be really into Alps switches, and then I tried Kailh BOX switches. That led me to trying other MX-style switches like Gateron Yellows, which led me back to Cherry switches since a friend killed his board by spilling soda in them. Now I'm using Tribosys-lubed Cherry MX Reds with 67g springs in a TADA68 with a wood case. When I modified my Avant Stellar with complicated White Alps (used to have simplified) I thought I would never get into custom keyboards, but here I am now. Media controls are stupid because you still have to hit the K key to pause your video on UA-cam as well as J&L to go back and forward 10 seconds and if you're focused on the video you can use arrows left and right to go back and forward 5 Seconds up and down for volume like what are the media Keys even for?
I really don't aggry with his stance on backlighting as thorough RGB can definitely be super tacky, backlighting can be very useful to see your keys if you don't want to use your lights for whatever reason. one big benefit in my mind is being able to see what you have just pressed, especially when doing things like video and photo editing, for me, as I sometimes miss press key when entering shortcuts and it's not entirely clear what I've done, so being able to see what I actually press is very good to determine what I have done. But I do agree, having the RGB patterns on is very annoying and distracting; but having backlighting in a plain colour or a subtle gradient, with no to a tiny minimal amount of movement is very nice if only for readability

I do not care for the RGB-crap at all nor the looks modern gaming keyboards tend to have but having the keys show in the dark is a clear benefit if you ask me. I am also curious to ask, I have an old Razer keypad with MX blues I bought back around 2010-2012, the thing that got me into mechanical switches. So true! I would also add that while there are so many mechanical kbds for gaming, there are very few specifically made for typing, esp if backlighting is included. For virtually all people, and most businesses, mechanical kbd = gaming keyboard! I'm looking for a mechanical kbd now, and the one that's closer to my needs is the MK Night Typist. Although I would prefer the keys featuring a little lower profile (or simply burried a little more into the keyboard's surface). This last feature makes it a typing, rather than a gaming kbd imo. And it's cost is very reasonable, $109. The bad thing is that it is shipped "free" only in the US. They charge "some" $40 for shipping abroad, and obviously they don't even count VAT or other import fees in. Found it on Amazon, at $112, and with shipping and taxes included this goes to $145.61.
