For everyone that has a 99 to 00 nbs trucks you have to engage the parking brake first then start the vehicle to do this. I had to figure this out the hard way with my 2000 silverado.
Tim Oftedahl, yes it's very odd because I had a 2002 and it was with the button. I also had a 2000 s10 and it was this same way, but for some wired reason gm must have done it with the parking brake on 99 and very early 2000. Because when it got my 2000 I thought it was this same way but no result. Finally I obtained a owners manual from a friend's wrecked 99 nbs and it said use the parking brake and I was shocked by this but it worked. Only thing I can think of is that my truck is a 2000 model but was built in 8/1999. So maybe that only applies to 99 and early 2000 and the rest is with the switch, very very odd that they would do that tho.
This was also the case on my 01 chevy express 3500....parking brake needs to be engaged, and it resets with every cycle of the power. Was there some kind of "always on" law during those years? I'd much prefer to just switch on and off. Anyone know of a workaround?
Dude, I’ve got two suburbans and one I’ve had for 20 years 😂 and this is the first time I’ve ever shut the headlights off with the car running 🤣😂🤷♀️🤦♀️
2023 and this video still helping. Just purchased a gorgeous low mileage Sierra and couldn’t figure this out. Got to be the reason so many people replace this switch!!! Doing the lords work
Dude! I can’t thank you enough! Two nights in a row now I try to idle with no lights and I ACCIDENTALLY got them off the first try. Well not tonight! I just sat here for an hour hitting buttons and turning switch🤦🏻♀️😂😂😂 THANK YOU!!!!!
THANK YOU! Nothing worse than sitting in a cell phone lot on a hot or cold night and having your headlights beaming at people because your engine is running and the darn things won’t shut off. Thanks again!
You are a lifesaver my dude cuz I've watched a hundred different videos nobody could tell me how to do it I was kind of just clicked on your video first cuz you went right to the point and solve my issue for me respect good looking out my dude
Wow.. owned one of these models in one form or another for 25years and never knew this. I would shut off the ignition, press the E break down to the first click. Thanks for the vid you made 11yrs ago!!!
I have a 2000 Astro AWD. All interior illumination goes very dim. I and a repair shop thought I might have a bad ground, #3 fuse out, etc. A month ago, the radio, instrument cluster ( Most importantly, GEAR SELECTOR portion of cluster and interior automatic courtesy go VERY dim, only visible at night. Found your video this morning, and VIOLA! when your above explained procedure is conducted. Notice in video, how the illumination of the RPMs drops when the dome light is pressed the 4th time. I must have inadvertently switched modes while trying to figure out the auto vs manual headlighting some time ago. Though I work on autos for much of my living, it usually is tied just to the programming, service and troubleshooting of anti theft OEM components. Again, thank you for posting this to the tootoob, so many years ago. Karma points to you
Question, I have a 2001 GMC Yukon. With the car off I would set the parking brake then turn on the car and the headlights would NOT come on. Great for not disturbing the family sleeping at 4:00 am . Then with the car still on and warmed up I would disengage the parking brake and the headlights would come on and I would drive off. That procedure doesn’t work anymore. Any suggestions? But I will try this function in your video. Thx 🙏🏼
I’ve had this thing for 2 years and this video just showed me for the first time how cut these damn lights off so I can stop blinding ppl while I’m waiting on them to come outside or at the Xmas lights drive threw!!!
Sweet!!! I have owned and or driven 4 or 5 of the model trucks and never knew how to do this and thought "there has to be a way!" Honestly its for lack of trying but I always encountered the need at an inopportune time to learn. This was straight to the point...thanks!
For the auto lights take off the right speaker grill and unplug the ambient sensor. Then buy a 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt resistor and fold ends down and plug them into the harness. Put some tape over resistor to prevent it from falling out. And the lights will stay off when dark and must be done manually. Now for the DRL's on the 1999 and older the only way to disable the DRL's is to pull the black square relay in the fuse panel under the hood. Pull the relay and on bottom there will be 5 leads marked 30 86 85 87a 87 now cut the 86 85 and 87 or bend them outwards and up then plug the relay back in and your DRL's are disabled. Do not bend or remove the 30 or 87a lead.
Ahhhh i just passed a year with my beautiful 1999 Silverado and ive wanted more times thsn u would think to shut off my lights for various reasons and couldn’t and it made me so mad i thought id never be able to. Thank you bro you made my day with this
Awesome dude! I just bought a '01 Sierra and was ticked 'cause the headlights were on with the key. I had an '05 a few years back but it was OK. I knew a guy that was also ticked off that his '03 lights were always on. Wish I could tell him now. Thanks for the video & tip!
I have an 01 tahoe and this works while I am driving! I was going to put a blackout switch in the wiring somewhere to go total blackout. Hence why I searched this. But then your video popped up and now you just saved me from an afternoon of wiring! You sir deserve a cookie! 🍪
Thank you for sharing this video. I hope this actually works. Have had my S-10 Blazer for two weeks now. Haven't figured out how to turn the lights off on my own.
Thank you for that video, I always wondered how to shut the headlights off, It always drove nuts when my headlights was on when I didn't need them on, or I just wanted to sit in my truck while running and they would be on. So thanks again for showing me that
That was actually very helpful I was almost about to spend like $30 on a switch cuz I thought it was bad I always wondered why I couldn't independently go through the options on the switch there just always on thanks
I have a 99 GMC Sierra that has the identical inst. panel. Does not work. Any thoughts? I came across a few other options such as pull the fuse labeled DRL. Still on. Mind boggling. Only vehicle Ive ever had these on, and I really really don't like them. Its frequent Im in a situation where them being on is an annoyance primarily to others. Pull into a parking lot at a restaurant pointing your lights in a window while some one runs in for take out. Its cold out so you want to leave it running. People inside trying to relax and eat love it. So many examples of why these suck and blow at the same time.
For those of you just sitting in a parking lot and not wanting to blind anybody while your truck is running, just twist the knob counter clockwise from the off position and it will turn the headlights off. No need to press the button 4 times
awesome video! Thanks for taking the time. I just bought a brand new utility trailer and when plugging in the lights i don't have clearance lights or running lights. I checked the trailer park fuse and its fine. Could it be the switch for the lights on the dash? I turned the knob to the top and still nothing.
Awesome vid and helpful. Worked for me. Thanks! Tho I must say, crazy that we actually needed this video in the first place. Talk about over engineering garbage. Where the F are we headed???
Hi I have 05 silverado. The 3rd lite and cargo lites are in the same harness .the 3rd lite works fine, but when I push on the cargo lite button nothing happens,no lites . What do you suggest?
Hi sir I have a quick question to ask. I'm having problems with my dashboard lights not coming on.. on my 2000 Chevrolet tahoe LT. Well I'm dashboard panel cluster light comes on. But the only come on when I put my dimer light's on. And when I turn them off my dashboard light's turn off.. let's put it like this my dashboard panel cluster light's work. But only with dimer light's turn on. Pls help and thank you.
Haha, works for my 2003 s10. Thanks man, I knew how to turn the on and off but I just kept rapidly pressing the button 2 or 3 time and sometimes I'd get lucky. I thought my truck was messed up XD thanks man.
Almost Garage so I have discovered that if you have just the base model 1999 chevy Silverado 1500 this doesn’t work, if you have the one with heated seats and all that it will work. Either way great video and thank you for trying to help.
I'm in the process of buying a 99 sierra 2500. Remembering how much I hated my old work truck was an 02 Silverado 250 and can't shit the lights off to hide from the cops if need to and I tried this and it's not working for me. Do you have to have the vehicle off first?
On the light switch/knob I have it set to the “o” for lights on, however what do the two symbols above it mean? The outward-facing icon and then also the light bulb icon? I am not sure what does what and so I ask because I don’t want to get pulled over for having the incorrect lights on during a normal night drive. Thanks so much!
May be you could help me! I don't have any brake, running or turn signals...my bulbs are good...My 4-way or hazards do work. I don't see a particular fuse...I only see a brake light fuse and it is good....do you have any ideas?
Cool, I didn't know about how to turn off the head light with the dome light switch, now I do. Owned the truck for 15 years, lol. Thanks. Can you tell me why every time I ran over a bump, it feel like my strut is raddling.
You should check out the opt7 fluxbeam 880's or auxbeam 880 led's. I had hid's in the fog lights of my '02 Silverado for a little bit, but the chrome/aluminum reflector coating ended up coming off from the constant heat of having them on every time I drove, so I decided to go to led after getting new fog light housings
Hello if you can answer this but I just switched out the sockets for my daytime running lights but I also know that my selector is going bad now either I did a shitty connection when I put them together or the selector just isn’t working for the daytime running lights
Thanks for the video. I just replaced that switch, and everything worked, but a month later, they don't go on automatically when it gets dark (still work when you manually turn them on).... Any ideas? 02 Suburban. And this pushing the button 4 times didn't do anything on mine.
OMG. I'm such an idiot. My emergency brake was on, and that's why the headlights didn't go on automatically.... if anyone ever has a problem with their lights not going on automatically, make sure your e-brake is off!!
Almost now if i do what he said below which i did it worked to where i could control my headlights DO I HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY SINGLE TIME?IS THERE A WAY TO KEEP IT LIKE THIS,
I wanna disable auto head lights so I can drive in stealth mode like a cop if I want to when hunting. My switch is spring loaded and it won't stay at the off position. How do you permanently have manual control over head lights turning on and off at will??
very very interesting I bought my 99 Silverado used so I had no idea how to do that..... another words I don't have a owners manual.... very good video.....
My high beam dash light stays on.......I can make it go off but comes back on in 30 seconds and this is with the truck completely off. Another channel said they just replaced the tail lights including wiring harness to fix this........is there a better way to tell what the problem is exactly? I have an 04 Silverado 3500 HD 4x4.
@@rbjrb4875 Funny, I haven't worked on it yet but one of my back up lights was burnt out. I bought the bulb but haven't put it in yet to see if that's the trick. I know on older cars, a burnt bulb could affect the blinkers speed of flashing. Also, I have a front light out. I'll try to get back to you on this as I should probably work on this tomorrow.
I fixed mine today!!!! Try wiggling the headlight relay upwards like you're about to remove it. I noticed them functioning correctly right as I was pushing a new relay in but went back once relay was pushed completely in 😔 so I wiggled back out and put a thin piece of plastic under the relay and now it's working perfectly
@@rbjrb4875 I just now fixed mine. I replaced 4 burnt out bulbs....The 2 little running light bulbs in the back, one back up light bulb, and then one running light in the front. The problem seems to be fixed.
I have a 2001 GMC Sierra extended cab SLE and not familiar with this type of truck please show me how to turn off the park lamp light/tailights, I have to take off the battery terminal but I was told that it could be a faulty brake switch sensor
hey man I have a 01 Silverado and I cant seem to get the lights closest to the grill to turn on. Not the high beams but the ones below them. on my DRL function only the amber lights turn on in the middle. the truck is all stock and the bulbs look like they are in good shape (not blown).
HI. My passenger side light won't come on anymore- driver side works, both hi beams work. I noticed when I switched the hi beams on it light for a second, then just the hi beams stay on. I have a 2003 Yukon gmc. Any suggestions?? Changing the bulb didn't work! Thanks
Underneath the headlights are another set of lights. What are they? Seen when the hazards are on the outer ones come on but couldnt figure out the inner ones. Any help?
For everyone that has a 99 to 00 nbs trucks you have to engage the parking brake first then start the vehicle to do this. I had to figure this out the hard way with my 2000 silverado.
Cody Proefrock interesting.... I have a 00 sierra and i can do it just how he does it in the video. No parking brake or anything

My dash lights won't come on there's 1 10amp fuse that isn't getting any power.?
Cody Proefrock did this and now my brake lights won’t turn off how do I get that to turn off

Been In this Chevy for 8 years, and didn't have a clue on how to shut my light off, bro!!

You will never fully realize how much I appreciate your video. Your the F@#kin man. Thank you!!!!!

Thank you for sharing this video. I hope this actually works. Have had my S-10 Blazer for two weeks now. Haven't figured out how to turn the lights off on my own.
Thanks guy I've been low key trying to turn them off at times for two years now... Righteous!
Lol
Dang, had my 02 for 15 years and never knew the 4 press trick!

This man is a genius. I was about to do a diagnostic on electric system.

Omgeeeee ive been trying for months to get these off thank youuuuu lol
I had to look this video up because I have owned my 2000 Tahoe since 2002 (16 years) and had no idea. Thanks!
Okay it's 3 degrees outside with a wind chill of -12 degrees and now I'm going to have to go outside and try this like right now LOL
Did it work???
Thanks so much for the video annoyed me to have the lights on all the time while driving. Thanks for your time
🎉🎉🎉 Sir! You're a gentleman a scholar and few others we won't mention! 🙏🤲🛐
Lmfao. Ive wondered for so long.... I feel like a noob looking up a vid how to turn my headlight on and off. Thanks for the vid!
This was helpful I got a 05 tahoe it turn off when I turn the knob then I just bought a 01 and notice this and youtube it and u help me out 💯💯💯
Thanks for this video. I was going crazy trying to turn my headlights off.
I have a 99 GMC Sierra that has the identical inst. panel. Does not work. Any thoughts? I came across a few other options such as pull the fuse labeled DRL. Still on. Mind boggling. Thanks man my dad sadly passed and left me his 2001 Tahoe suburban and I'm still trinna figure things out
For those of you just sitting in a parking lot and not wanting to blind anybody while your truck is running, just twist the knob counter clockwise from the off position and it will turn the headlights off. No need to press the button 4 times
Ummm, no.
Nope
Thanks man. I have this truck for over a year with no incognito mode.
awesome video! Thanks for taking the time. I just bought a brand new utility trailer and when plugging in the lights i don't have clearance lights or running lights. I checked the trailer park fuse and its fine. Could it be the switch for the lights on the dash? I turned the knob to the top and still nothing.
Thank you SO much!!! I could not figure this out in my 2003 safari van. Appreciate the help !
Thanks man I hate not being able to turn them off great video
I just learned this today lol I’ve always owned 03-07 my 1st 01 and I couldn’t figure out how to get them off for shit thanks boss 🙇🏾♂️
Awesome vid and helpful. Worked for me. Thanks! Tho I must say, crazy that we actually needed this video in the first place. Talk about over engineering garbage. Where the F are we headed???
Bro you a genius for real real!!!!
Now i can be a genius & pass this nifty info along!!!
Hi I have 05 silverado. The 3rd lite and cargo lites are in the same harness .the 3rd lite works fine, but when I push on the cargo lite button nothing happens,no lites . What do you suggest?

But the only come on when I put my dimer light's on. And when I turn them off my dashboard light's turn off.. let's put it like this my dashboard panel cluster light's work. Dudeee hell yeah!!!! I'm been trying to figure this out for ever!!!! Thankyou!!!!
Haha, works for my 2003 s10. Thanks man, I knew how to turn the on and off but I just kept rapidly pressing the button 2 or 3 time and sometimes I'd get lucky. I thought my truck was messed up XD thanks man.

Currently at a drive in and I’m leaving before other people and I pray to god this works Bc blinding people here is basically a sin
Jordan Fielding I got you!
Almost Garage so I have discovered that if you have just the base model 1999 chevy Silverado 1500 this doesn’t work, if you have the one with heated seats and all that it will work. Either way great video and thank you for trying to help.
Dude thank you this has been driving me nuts
Good information
High beam + fog lights ?
Thanks
thanks man this really helped i have led headlights and they’ve always been on and i just wanted them off and it worked
What battery do you use for your car
Just bought a 2000 tahoe I had for 3 weeks thought it was normal to stay on and now I’m seeing this 😂
I have a 2004 GMC Sierra I want to change the cluster lights to red LED. How would I go about doing that? Thanks
I'm in the process of buying a 99 sierra 2500. Remembering how much I hated my old work truck was an 02 Silverado 250 and can't shit the lights off to hide from the cops if need to and I tried this and it's not working for me. Do you have to have the vehicle off first?

You can also read your vehicle manual for the information.
THANK GOD. I was just saying that this was the worst part of my new 01 sierra is the headlights are always on if it's slightly dark.
what headlights are you using they look like what I want bright and white!
May be you could help me! I don't have any brake, running or turn signals...my bulbs are good...My 4-way or hazards do work. I don't see a particular fuse...I only see a brake light fuse and it is good....do you have any ideas?

So next to the marker lights is another set of white lights. Inever see these lights come on...why & how or when do they light up?
Thanks. This works for the 03 GMC Sonoma also. Greatly appreciated!!
your videos still out here helping.
did you have any problem with your fog light cause on my Yukon Denali 2002 they don't work is there any fuse compartment that has that fuse ?
You should check out the opt7 fluxbeam 880's or auxbeam 880 led's. How do you test the Daytime Running Lights on a 2001 suburban ( During Evening Time when its dark outside ? )
I would think shinning a bright light (to act like the sun) onto the sensor, which is located on top of dashboard near the middle.
In the daytime you would cover the sensor to see if they shut off...
very very interesting I bought my 99 Silverado used so I had no idea how to do that.....
another words I don't have a owners manual....
very good video.....
Ive had this truck for 5 months and didn’t know that thanks
My high beam dash light stays on.......I can make it go off but comes back on in 30 seconds and this is with the truck completely off. Another channel said they just replaced the tail lights including wiring harness to fix this........is there a better way to tell what the problem is exactly? I have an 04 Silverado 3500 HD 4x4.
Did you ever get this figured out? Having same problem on my suburban.
Hey thanks for the light hey I have the same cereal in my truck as you do how do I set the time
TYIA just bought a 2005 yukon. When i get out and lock it. Headlights stay on for 3 minutes, then shut off. Can I change the time duration.
Nice clean truck bro!!
For sale lol
Any help?
