Well folks, we have a request review! Thanks to Declan for his generous support of the channel.
This is also my first project edited using DaVinci Resolve. I'm going through the teething issues of getting used to new editing software, but the thing seems to work fairly well. Not a single crash so far, and hopefully the process of animating still images should be a lot easier to do. With more practice I should be able to edit videos a lot quicker.
Anyways, thanks for your patience folks, got some Doctor Who content coming your way this coming month, hope to see you all then!

Here’s one thing that gets me. We just know that grim reaper here is taking this old guy. We don’t know what health problems is contributing to this. Like if he was having heart problems, shouldn’t Susan have picked up on something as a doctor? She acts like she notices no red flags health wise in her father that would be life threatening

I just finished rewatching this beautiful film. It’s pretty clear by the end she had an idea of what Joe might be, at least a vague idea but understandably its a hard pill to swallow. But she was more certain when she Joe walking away with her father and went after them.

  • @rayrowley4013

She isn't explicitly told who/what Joe, but it is implied (albeit poorly) when he is saying goodbye (again poorly). He tells her she knows who he is and she gives him a look like she is putting it together but then doesn't say it, instead saying "you're Joe". But it is clear in the later scene that she knows. When she sees Joe walk away with her father and then return alone she never asks where her dad went and makes comments that show she knows coffee shop guy is back and Joe is gone. She also says "I wish you could have known my father" but she has not seen him dead or been told. This implies she knows what happened.

The film is a meditation on life from multiple perspectives, most noteably from young idealistic people going into the journey of love and the future contrasted with the ideal aged man exiting for the last time. The shots and dialogue for the film build this up very well.
Also, The staring in the lengthy dance scenes and conversations at the end is Death letting Susan know some secrets about who he is, and her realizing it in some way, but ultimately having to live in denial when she still insists on telling Death "youre Joe" at the end. A lot was being said in this scene that you missed. It may not have been as effective as yoid like. But it was clearly intended by the film makers.
When susan talks to her father for the last time, she does know this is the end for him because Death just explained it to her supernaturally, similarly to the wordless information exchange and acceptancr previously shown via the creole woman in the hospital.
    Consider watching the film again.

So, two cars hit Joe and didn't even attempt to brake or stop. It's a little thing, but that's what destroyed my suspension of belief.

I noticed that the main point of contention between Joe and Bill. There's a certain line you don't cross with a man’s daughter and Joe crossed it. Bill's issue is not that Susan fell in love. He wanted to see her truly in love. What he obviously takes issue with is that she fell in love with someone who doesn't know the first thing about what it means to truly be in love

I will say this much. It's a weird concept but it still has a lot of heart and substance. Throw in the first ever film meet cute and Brad Pitt as the sexiest grim reaper and you got a great movie

I can think of one flaw with bill: his irascible temper. Especially when it comes to protecting his daughter Susan. Cross a line and you’re asking for trouble

  • @rayrowley4013
    @rayrowley4013 6 днів тому

Bill does have faults. True they don't focus on it much. I think they rely heavily on the implication that he is acting differently than he would now that he knows he is dying. Even so, some things slip in. He is a bit over bearing at times and there is some statements that imply he can be harsh. But the one that stands out to me is where the 'other daughter' claims her sister is the favorite and he doesn't dispute this. Also, he was allegedly all for the merger until he found out he was dying then he was against it as he reevaluated the legacy he wanted.

I'll give this movie for its portrayal of the grim reaper. Usually you get a GM who is simply “ nothing personal, Just business “. This one is more sympathetic

Your critique doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I didn't see this, I didn't see that, this wasn't developed enough, why didn't they have this plot and that plot. Damn, did you want the move to be 25 hours long ? But I guess when you are just criticizing and not actually doing, you don't need to worry about things like that.

  • @michellecrocker2485

Allison’s forgiveness of her father, I put it down to her being the older daughter and she’s more mature. Plus, I don’t think she wants a reason to resent her younger sister

i thought the movie was beautiful. and the scene with death saying goodbye to her she realises exactly what is going on, which is why the last seen with pre-death joe works. im sorry this was lost on you. i guess they should have made it more obvious for the slower viewers. but i liked the the way they did it.
also the scene with the woman in the hospital was beautiful. of course death would speak in her accent. why wouldnt he? he's death he can speak to anyone in any language.

The cake scene was ridiculous. He picks the cake BEFORE he tries any. And what is with the arms in the air. He does that a few times and it is odd.

My main gripe was how susan understands what is hqppenomg at the end. It doesnt make sense..she isnt told.
I was waiting for susan to realize dude was deas..maybe the jilted ex boyfriend does some research, maybe the old jamaican lady tells her before being taken...i was surprised they didnt.

you dont always have to spell things out. it would have cheapened the scene.

@@Angarato86 nah. How can you assume ever that you are dating death? If you assumed such youd likely need your head checked. She can sense hes off or weird maybe ..but "oh hes death and hes taking my dad tonight" is not something up there.

I literally stopped that mental pain of listening to you, when you used the concept of ‘cultural appropriation’. He’s not ‘impersonating the lady’s accent’. He’s using her native language to be closer to her (and probably also to avoid too much other people understanding). And for your information, Jamaican Creole is not just an ‘accent’ of American English. It’s actually a language of its own. You know what? The fact that you mixed it up is precisely what is insulting here.
And if I had to count all the times you just missed the details of the plot because of your ridiculous quest for realism, I would need hours of typing.
    Duh.
