Hi, glad you like it. All the faces are different sizes most often. I just try to make it look good overall. If you could clarify which asset you mean, I could answer more accurately,
Hi, glad you like it and thank you for your question! I used the mouse almost everywhere in this project. Only for the armchair I used a graphics tablet. For example, I have another video where I create Shadow Man character. There I only use a graphic tablet for the texturing.
Hi, for such manipulation you need enable "Correct Face Attribute". In Edit mode, go to top-right and click "Option (under Viewport Shading) to find it.
When you're texture painting the arm chair I see that you have the selected paint mask on. When I enable that it makes everything except the selected faces turn mostly white. I'd like to be able to see the proper colors of everything else while I have that mask enabled. How do I do that? I tried googling and eventually found an answer that was pretty much "blender doesnt have the option to change the opacity of that mask" but from this video it seems there must be a way. These look amazing by the way, very helpful for something I'm working on.
Hi, yes, I also struggled with this at the beginning, but then I started using the keyboard shortcut Shift+Alt+Z to hide everything.Or just click Show Overlays icon at the top-right area of the Texture Paint window.
I got inspired by your video and I'm working on something similar myself. Did you do everything in Blender, or did you import all the assets into Unity and build the environment there?
Thanks! Glad you like. I don’t even know exactly, I did this with pauses for about a month. I would like to do this more often, but I have another main job not related to 3D.
Do you keep track of the pixel size for each object so that every pixel is about the same size in your scene? Edit: I found your answer in the comments. "All the faces are different sizes most often. I just try to make it look good overall." Thanks for the great video!
Thank, glad you like it. I don't really understand what exactly you mean. I usually try to make the textures in maximum size 256 x 256 px. But if the object is small, then less is possible. For example, a cactus has a texture 64 x 64 px.
@@Summmer85Is it just that configuration? Do you do anything on the side? because when I exported it out of blender it was just the object layout without the white background like in your video
@@otaldog4mer755 Looks like I'm not doing anything more then what I described above. You are exporting the scheme on a transparent background. The white background is just another layer created in Photoshop.
In this project, almost all textures are drawn from scratch by me. But if I need, for example, wood textures, I just search for images on the Internet.
Thank you! Yes, probably. People tell me this often. Although if you look at it in the format of cinematic inserts that were in PS1 games, then the graphics were about the same or even better.

could you please explain how you went about texturing on the pot at 14:20? I tried to follow along but it seems I'm missing something. I can draw on an object if I use Single Image in the texture slot, but no matter what the resolution is the paint I apply is far too bold and harsh, not as smooth as yours. mine is like I'm using mspaint, while yours is more like a photoshop brush when you add the extra dark grey
Hi, I use graphic tablet for texture painting. May be you if use mouse it will find be difficult to achieve a soft brush. And another moment, even with a tablet, it seems to me that it is not entirely easy to achieve maximum softness, when compared, for example, with Photoshop. Therefore, when painting, I often pick intermediate color (pressing double S to pick a color) and thus try to achieve softness. Hope this helps you.
@@Summmer85irc you acnt use shape keys that are set to slightly vibrate the vertices and make them at like 10 or so frame intervals and insert noise in between, the ps1 resolution can be dine by loterally reducing the render res
Thanks! It's easy to make at fact. You need to add some nodes in Compositing area of top menu and change value of Film to 0.1 for example in Render Properties (at right menu). There is some video on UA-cam. Something like "How to make ps1 in blender"
Hey man, i really loved this video! I have one question: The pixelated look is made in the compositing tab, what are your settings, i saw a couple of tutorials but i cant decide which one looks better. Thanks!
Hi, yes I use Compositing tab and also changing the value of Film to 0.1 in Render Properties. I once watched a tutorial about Compositing settings. I usually using such way...Between Render Layers and Composite I adding: Scale (XY - 0.500) - Pixelate - Scale (XY 2.000). Hope it helps.
Yes it helped! i think we watched the same tutorial, i was undecide from using Scale(XY-0.25) or Scale (XY0.5). Since you used this, i know how it looks when rendered, so thank you so much
Спасибо! Сложно точно ответить на этот вопрос, так как работал не по таймеру, но если прям не спать сутками, а только сидеть в Блендере, то может за неделю удасться управиться.
Amazon job! Question on the texturing. I see you use some kind of metal or other texture overlay to add some texture to the…. Textures haha. What setting do you use to combine it with the layer below? Are you setting the mode to overlay?
Thanks! I don't think I used anything complicated in the texturing process here. Could you please clarify which place exactly you are interested in, maybe I'm missing something.
@@GCSGamingDev Understand, I used blend mode Color or Soft Light. I don't have a single method, I usually just go through the options and see which blending mode I like best at this moment

Thank you. glad you like it! What about selecting faces, you just need to switch to face select at the top left, if I understand you right (or let me know time code for this action). As for the joining the uv elements, you need to change Increment to Vertex in Snapping (magnetic at the top), then move one element to other while holding Control.
I started learn Blender a bit more then year. It’s hard to say that I’ve mastered this, since there’s still a lot I can’t do. I do this with long breaks because I have other main job and it takes a lot of time.
Thank you! The thing is that when you save the UV map, it does not have a specific size, as it seems to me. I just create a document of the size I need in Photoshop and drag the UV map directly from the file folder.
Glad you like it and hank you for the question! As for the armchair, this was a fairly new technique for me, since I painted the shadows in blender, and the color, noise and small details in Photoshop (I'm more comfortable here for now). I tried doing the same thing several times until I achieved the desired result, and I drew the last version in about 15 minutes.

WOW MAN THIS IS SO COOL. I love the little trick with the UV maps where you stack them on top of each other :D Please keep do more of this! What graphics tablet do you use?
Thank you for letting me know! It's inspiring.
Just trying to pack UV as compactly as possible to put it within 128x128px or 256x256px which is typical for PS1 graphics. I use Wacom Intuos 4, PTK-640.
i been looking at that wacom because im broke and its quite cheap. if it can do basic drawing like this i reckon i am sold on it now !@@Summmer85
looks amazing!
Thanks! Glad you like it
Really cool to watch ! Thank you
Happy you like it. Thank you for letting me know!
Hello! Great work, a pleasure to watch. A quick question: How do you stack and merge similar UV islands?
Hello, Thanks for feedback!
First, you need to change Increment to Vertex in Snapping (at the top left) and then you'll be able to stack similar faces while holding Control.
Hope it help
@@Summmer85 Great! Thank you very much and have a nice day :)
Very cosy scene. Great texturing technique. Do you making full length tutorials? I've try to follow time lapsed one, but as result I,ve got some kind a soap instead of yours ps1 look. May be you can recommend me some UA-cam tutorial on this topic?
Thank you very much! I don’t have any lessons yet, but since people are asking about it, I started thinking about it more often. I would recommend to try any video by search "PS1 style in Blender". Also you'll find many interesting here: @StarkCraftsYT
Regarding tutorials on this topic, I would like to ask, if you have drawing experience on a graphics tablet? I ask because I want to understand the audience better.
Thank you for the answer! Yes, I have some experience in drawing with a tablet, but for my 3D models I almost never use hand-painted textures, as it takes a lot of time. @@Summmer85
@@schizoscope8703 Thanks! I think if I do a tutorial I'll probably try both ways, painting the texture and just using a photo with some modifications.
Looking forward@@Summmer85
I would love a video of u explaining how to make the textures painted (and using photos as an alternative too) and give that ps1 old look kinda pixelated. What canvas size do you use for the textures? Also, how do you stack the UVs like that?? Love your work, really inspiring to me.
Thank you very much for writing about this! I'm really inspired by the feedback and the fact that someone likes it. I'd like to do some kind of tutorial about this. But I lack courage and most of all free time. I save all the wishes and questions that are written in the comments regarding the creation of the tutorial. Thanks again for writing. I really appreciate it.
tutorial please??
Thanks for asking! I would really like to pay more attention to this and do something like what you are asking about. But unfortunately, my main job takes a lot of time and I rarely switch to 3D.
In any case, I plan to make a tutorial, since a lot of people ask for it and this is inspires me.

I have a question...
When you are making the UVs, are all the faces of the same size, or you just dont put too much care in to it?
Hi, glad you like it. All the faces are different sizes most often. I just try to make it look good overall. If you could clarify which asset you mean, I could answer more accurately,
Do you use a mouse to hand paint? Btw, really impressed how you quickly turn cubes to realistic 3d models.
Hi, glad you like it and thank you for your question! I used the mouse almost everywhere in this project. Only for the armchair I used a graphics tablet.
For example, I have another video where I create Shadow Man character. There I only use a graphic tablet for the texturing.
Did you use tablet or mouse for painting? Btw Great work.
Thank you! I usually use tablet for something more compicated like classic painting with smooth transitions in colors and mouse for drawing by pixels.
What do you do at 17:28 with the book bindings too extrude it with UVs? T
hat looks like it's such a time saver!
Hi, for such manipulation you need enable "Correct Face Attribute". In Edit mode, go to top-right and click "Option (under Viewport Shading) to find it.
wow, this looks amazing. how did you get so good at texturing like that?
Thank you! Glad you like this style.
It seems to me that the only way is to devote a lot of time to this.
Thank you for feedback! Everything in Blender. I haven't learned any game engine yet.
Good lick with your project!
Amazing !!
Thank you!
a tutorial would be amazing!
PS1 Environment.
Спасибо за отзыв, рад, что нравится такое творчество. Однажды погрузившись в это, выныривать не хочется, наоборот много чего хотелось бы научиться ещё. Поэтому буду продолжать, хотя часто выдавать новое не получается.

these environments you make from the ps1 era are great and I love watching them. How long does it take to make them?
Thanks! Glad you like. I don’t even know exactly, I did this with pauses for about a month. I would like to do this more often, but I have another main job not related to 3D.
Real great🧨

Do you keep track of the pixel size for each object so that every pixel is about the same size in your scene?
Edit: I found your answer in the comments. "All the faces are different sizes most often. I just try to make it look good overall."
Thanks for the great video!
Yes, I try to keep an eye on it, especially if it's close-up. But I think this is not critical. The final result is important, not every pixel.
Looks great, do you enforce a certain pixel density on your textures at all across all the assets, i.e 1cm = 1 px ?
Thank, glad you like it. I don't really understand what exactly you mean. I usually try to make the textures in maximum size 256 x 256 px. But if the object is small, then less is possible. For example, a cactus has a texture 64 x 64 px.
How do you save the UV map with face markings? so you can edit using another program? gives form in which you did in 7:14
It's simple. You need go to UV Editing Area, menu UV - Export UV Layout. Be sure you selected all polygons before.
@@Summmer85Is it just that configuration? Do you do anything on the side? because when I exported it out of blender it was just the object layout without the white background like in your video
@@Summmer85What are the settings you normally use in Blender to export?
@@otaldog4mer755 Looks like I'm not doing anything more then what I described above. You are exporting the scheme on a transparent background. The white background is just another layer created in Photoshop.
@@Summmer85 OK, I thought there was another option within Blender itself.
Where do you get your images that you use as textures/references?
In this project, almost all textures are drawn from scratch by me. But if I need, for example, wood textures, I just search for images on the Internet.
Can you make a tutorial on your texturing process more in depth?
Yes, I have plans to make a tutorial about PS1 style. I hope I can sort out my current work so that I can take up the blender again)
great work. Maybe the quality is too high for PS1 models and textures :D
Thank you! Yes, probably. People tell me this often.
Although if you look at it in the format of cinematic inserts that were in PS1 games, then the graphics were about the same or even better.

Can you make a tutorial or full time (x1) time lapse with tips or commentary for beginners? thank you for uploading this Amazing work :D
Thank you for your question! Yes, I'm planning to make a tutorial one day. I'm already thinking about the details.
could you please explain how you went about texturing on the pot at 14:20?
Hope this helps you.
to fool everyone, make this 24fps, ps1 resolution and guve it some vertex jitter, it wont only look like ps1 assets it will look like a ps1 game :3
I only know how to make objects shake when they move, but I don't know how to do it just when the camera moves.

How did you achieve that 'pixelated' look and jagged edges effect? Amazing work btw. :D

Yes it helped! i think we watched the same tutorial, i was undecide from using Scale(XY-0.25) or Scale (XY0.5).

hey! i have a question, how do u select exactly the faces u wanna move on te uvs without marking seams? also how do you joing two dfferent ojects in the same uv map

What about selecting faces, you just need to switch to face select at the top left, if I understand you right (or let me know time code for this action).
As for the joining the uv elements, you need to change Increment to Vertex in Snapping (magnetic at the top), then move one element to other while holding Control.

How long did it take for you to get good at this?
I started learn Blender a bit more then year. It’s hard to say that I’ve mastered this, since there’s still a lot I can’t do. I do this with long breaks because I have other main job and it takes a lot of time.
What size were you exporting and saving the UV maps for photoshop? Crazy work also xx
Thank you!
The thing is that when you save the UV map, it does not have a specific size, as it seems to me. I just create a document of the size I need in Photoshop and drag the UV map directly from the file folder.
I love this style. How long did it take you to texture the couch?
Glad you like it and hank you for the question!
As for the armchair, this was a fairly new technique for me, since I painted the shadows in blender, and the color, noise and small details in Photoshop (I'm more comfortable here for now). I tried doing the same thing several times until I achieved the desired result, and I drew the last version in about 15 minutes.
More like PS2 graphics lol But yeah man, really close. Right on. I just found out it is harder to do than it first seems.
I mean. Late 90s up to mid 2000s it was the same process. I think in the early 2000s they started experimenting with bump maps and stuff
