LM-888 - Famicom of my childhood / Retro 3D Lowpoly style in Blender (Animation and Timelapse)

Haili LM-888 - unofficial hardware clone of Famicom made in China which was widespread in the post-soviet countries. There were many other clones of various shapes and colors, but my parents gave me this one in 1995. In this project I tried to draw low resolution texture (I don't know if this can be classified as pixel art?) completely from scratch and model a set of elements that were in the b...
Polaroid in Low Poly PS1 style (Blender Timelapse)

I just wanted to create something from the past, and the idea of Polaroid came to mind. I know it was once popular, but my parents didn't have it when I was a kid. In this video I tried to imagine as if we had this camera. When I painted the texture I limited myself to 128x128 px to make it look similar to the PS1 style. Hope you enjoy this nostalgia. Cool video! Which version of blender are you using? I’m trying this style, but for some reason on a newer version I have automatic anti-aliasing or something like that, which kind of ruins it. On 4.0 everything works great

    • @Summmer85
      @Summmer85 Місяць тому

      Thank you. glad you like it! What about selecting faces, you just need to switch to face select at the top left, if I understand you right (or let me know time code for this action). As for the joining the uv elements, you need to change Increment to Vertex in Snapping (magnetic at the top), then move one element to other while holding Control.

    Amazing and inspiring work. It is especially interesting that you create your textures before modeling, rather than painting over the UVs or using a 3D painting workflow. Are there any advantages that you find from working this way?

      Thank you! This sequence is probably more convenient if the object has a simple shape.At the same time, it’s more convenient for me to extrude something using a ready-made texture. Overall I would say it all depends on the situation.

    I'd be interested to see if scenes like this could actually be rendered on PS1 hardware/an emulator. The textures are low res, but the models aren't exactly small. The graphical limitations of the PS1 were WAY tighter than developers were given credit for being able to innovate with. I think what you've made here closer represents early PS2 graphics/models more-so than PS1.

    • @Summmer85
      @Summmer85 Місяць тому

      Yes, I agree. Recently, I've been playing PS1 games again, and it’s becoming more and more clear to me that the graphics back then were even simpler-at least with an even lower resolution. On the other hand, if the PS1 era had lasted a few more years, I think we would have seen even more amazing examples of games. It seems to me that the PS1's potential wasn’t fully realized. Remember the manta and dinosaur models from the demo disc-that’s a completely different level compared to the graphics in most games.

    • @Seedy32
      @Seedy32 Місяць тому

      @Summmer85 There's a really cool documentary on here where the developer of Crash Bandicoot 1 talks about what he had to do to squeeze every ounce of power he could out of the chips on the PS1. It's fascinating. He went right down to the assembly language level to "steal" power from parts of the system that weren't supposed to be accessible to the game ROM's.
