My favorite kind of project, while the donut tutorial is fine, i feel like learning blender based on things personal or projects personal to you really helps one get to the finish line for stuff like this, either way nice to see Alpha team getting some love

This is incredible and you had my attention with the title, but what really won me over as you documented your process was your meticulous planning and development: the thought and surgical intention that went into redesigning the setting and characters, especially regarding reference material and the 'feeling' you were setting out to evoke, speak volumes about the richness of your creative process. I'm certainly biased because I also played the heck out of all those Lego flash games growing up, but the beginning and end of this video are not what I liked most: thank you for providing a glimpse into the journey.

As someone who made a UA-cam channel out of Blender and uses it almost constantly, (just realized I have Blender open as I am typing this) it can really be quite challenging to learn for beginners. Once you become proficient at using it, Blender can be super rewarding. Nice video by the way, it was super cool seeing your way of approaching things. Also, the finished result was sick!

I'm afraid you discovered a fundamental part of rigging, at low fidelity you can barely ever get good hips or shoulders, it's not just you, it's extremely hard so often people settle for tricks or good enough. You can see this kind of stuff in shipping games of the era.
To some extent this also applies to elbows and wrists

as a lifelong stingray fan i also really appreciate how you acknowledge that you made the models move differently from actual stingrays, it's a detail so small even i probably wouldn't have even noticed, but i think it's really cool you mentioned it. especially because i love any excuse to watch some stingray footage :D

Gotta say man, I'm super impressed. As someone who does want to get into stuff like 3D modeling and such, this is a really interesting look into the process of what happens behind the scenes. I will definitely be keeping some of those resources you mentioned in the vid in mind when I eventually start trying stuff like this for myself. I also want to highlight your sketches at 4:33 they look pretty dang good, the artstyle is neat as well.
(One final thing, 0:24 I know that was most likely a small slip up, but Bloodborne didn't come out on the PS3, it was on the PS4. Again, I know that was most likely an accident, it's perfectly fine, but I wanted to mention it anyways in case someone still hadn't)

Alpha Team rules! I really liked your thought process through the whole thing and the way you transitioned the minifigs to looking like people is really great. @jamespierce9815 4 дні тому +3

@ I like how tough and gritty you made her look. I wouldn’t have thought to design her that way, but you made her really cool. I know the Alpha Team has documented some character’s design inspirations (especially Dash), but since non-licensed Lego characters are all yellow, it leaves a lot to your own interpretation of what kind of people they can be. If you ever go back to the Alphas, I’d love to see the rest of the team designed this way. Cheers!

Your passion for this project comes through in everything you talked about. I'm so glad you finished this project, it looks awesome! I hope you continue to learn Blender, the obstacles you came across in this project will become easier.
12:55 My guess for the two rigging issues you highlighted: The axis of the bone for Radia's wrist may have been misaligned and the hierarchy of the bones may setup incorrectly. That man has no ass because the bones bend the mesh without consideration for mass distribution; blend shapes are best to resolve this.
14:03 I'm so glad you used Blender's Compositor! Node Editing is scary and I won't claim to understand more than you do. However, it really does give that extra 20% that makes your animation look perfect.
I'm excited to see your next project, best of luck in your animation journey!
