PVC Pool Pump Hose Alternative - Lasts longer than standard hoses

  • I offer you an alternative option to the standard pump hoses that come with your intex pool. Using 1-1/2" PVC piping and connectors, you can build the same thing, including a shut-off valve.
    The Intex 1.0m X Dia 1-1/4" Pump Hose Replacement Part 11873 cost about $20 each on Amazon, and you need 2 of these. amzn.to/3pvMqGc
    Instead of purchasing new hoses for $40 every 1-2 years, why not make something that will last for a one-time price of $40?
    This all started when I was looking for a way to help support the weight of the hoses and shut off valve so it would not pull down on the pool valves. I found that many people replace their hoses with PVC piping when their hoses cracked or started leaking.
    Material. QTY
    1-1/2" x 10' PVC. 1
    2 x 1-1/2" male adapter. 1
    1-1/2" 90 degree elbow. 2
    1-1/2" x 3/4" flush Bushing. 2
    1-1/2" PVC Tee. 1
    1-1/2" Ball Valve PVC. 1
    4 oz PVC Handy Pack. 1
    3/4" PVC (only need a few inches)
    Tools:
    Hack Saw or PVC Cutter (needs to cut 1-1/2")
    Sand paper
    Gloves
    measuring tape

    I rarely comment on DIY videos, but I must give you a HUGE thank you for doing this. I bought a used vinyl pool this season and of course it has leaking issues. PVC to PUMP was the ideal fix. I didnt know where to begin until I saw this video. A million thanks to you!

    You are the BEST!!!! I've watched so many videos that freaked me out and ended up buying a zillion pieces and parts and was still confused and then bought the intex hoses. Doubling my expenses. OMG. I wish I had found your instructions sooner.

    Nice video. I plan to do this this year. Appreciate the close ups on the pipe clamps, wasnt sure from your descriptions alone how the pvc would seal to the outlets.
    I'd like to pvc the outlet and inlet sides.

    Nice. Eventually you could make the downward pipe longer up to the ground and mage there 90 degree angle to the hose. Then it would be self-supporting.

    great video!! i used your parts list and got all my supplies last weekend. one thing i noticed, the 3/4 inch schedule 40 pvc dose not fit the pool intakes!! i think im just going to leave them off the inside of the pool. Thanks for you creativity and easy to follow steps.

      I picked them up at a Menards. Their website is not the best, I tried getting the exact flush bushing to come up but it did not work.

    Thanks so much for this video! Super helpful. Question I haven’t been able to find elsewhere, so I thought I’d try here: those Intex plunger valves - do those actually have an up and down plunger that can manually pump water through the hose when needed, such as for repriming the hoses? Or does the top handle just turn left and right to twist on and off? I have a much much smaller pool and made my own filter and small pump because the Intex and other pool pumps are overkill for my small pool and would have cost way more in electricity than needed. Having the actual pumping handles would be super handy, but cannot tell if those plunger valves actually do that or are just on/off. I saw Intex also updated those in recent years and changed how they work to help prevent them from breaking as much. Thank you for any help you can provide!

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  2 роки тому +1

      The valves that come with it are just open/close. As water fills above then, the lines fill with water.
      Glad you enjoyed the video

      Try sanding the outside of the pvc a bit to get it to fit in the filter fitting.

    Is it better to use 2 times a 45 in stead of a 90 degree? Like a centralvac system they only use 45's what do you think?

    • @pilske20
      @pilske20 Рік тому

      And the same for the T adapter is it better to use two 45's and an Y adaptor?

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  Рік тому +1

      You bring up a really good point. I bet 2 of the 45 degree angles would be better than 1- 90 degree elbow

      An alternate way to get rid of the rope would be to add a T to the bottom where the hose is connected with an open end coming out toward you and one toward the ground. Instead of adding the hose connection at bottom connect to the side. Add another piece of 1 1/2inch pipe all the way to the ground to prop it up. Place a cap/plug on the bottom.

    • @MisHuevo
      @MisHuevo 11 місяців тому +1

      That's what I figured would hold it up and keep it sturdy.. but I chose to use a 90 angle elbow instead of the t with cap on one end.

    The 2" lowes pvc threads don't fit the pool threads

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  2 роки тому +2

      Correct. You will need adapters and smaller tubing that fits through the holes. 3/4”
      Here are the materials i used, you can also find this in the video description :)
      Material. QTY
      1-1/2" x 10' PVC. 1
      2 x 1-1/2" male adapter. 1
      1-1/2" 90 degree elbow. 2
      1-1/2" x 3/4" flush Bushing. 2
      1-1/2" PVC Tee. 1
      1-1/2" Ball Valve PVC. 1
      4 oz PVC Handy Pack. 1
      3/4" PVC (only need a few inches)

      Great video! Does the 1 1/2 inch male adapter threads fit the intex hose? Another video says I need a 1 1/2 to 40mm adapter. Just want to be prepared before building with the kiddos.

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  Рік тому

      @RRack the male adapter i used fits well. I use one of the black rubber rings to prevent leaking.
      You can always take that hose with you to the store when you pick up threaded adapter and try it out just to be sure.
      This is my second year putting the pvc back on the pool. No issues…yet :)

    All your glue joints appear to be incorrect. You applied primer & glue to a pipe and inserted that into a dry fitting. Both sides of any joint must have primer and glue applied. It doesn't look like you did that.
