We're also going to use your 'pool sweep' setup to vacuum!! Thanks man!
I took the eye out of my return and fit a 90* elbow into the hole. It makes the water circulate around the pool and not out mostly to the middle. Skimmer will work better and any debris at the bottom of pool will collect in the center making it super fast and easy to get out. No need for a vacuum.
YOOOOOO that is AMAZING! Thank you for sharing. I had a pain last summer with my pool and will for sure be setting this up this year! Thank you so much for sharing!!
You are very welcome. You should check out my Hayward skimmer video in that one. You can see how I tie it all together. It’s working awesome. ua-cam.com/video/St8HQxZ-YpI/v-deo.html
And just fyi, for those who don't have a piece of rubber laying around for the gasket, we bought a tub overflow washer, that when trimmed down, worked great with no leaks.
I viewed and applied this setup to mine with some slight modifications. I used 1 inch pvc in the 2 ports from the pool. To make the (2) 1 inch pieces fit into the ports, I wrapped the ends of a pair of pliers with electrical tape and used the pliers to stretch out the ports to fit the 1 inch pvc. They obviously fit very snug after doing this and only needed 1 hose clamp on each. I also used my pvc cutter to cut the debris guards on the inside of the pool to about 1 inch in length to fit them in the ports to be able to use them.
What an awesome idea.....I have had my pool I think thi is summer #4 and last yr those flimsy hoses were starting to act up.....I am going to look into this.....Thankyou!!!
I just put up a new pool 2 weeks ago, in a few weeks I’ll be making a new video with updated plumbing ideas. So before you make any changes look for that new video. Just waiting for the pool water to warm up a little 👍🏼
Awesome job! I night a new house with a 20” version of this pool with the same filter set up. The hoses hanging are Jenky as hell and the weak point of the set up. 👍
Very nicely done. Thank you very much. I don’t know why they didn’t design something a little bit better than hoses that just hang there nicely done 💪🏼
@@LifeLessOrdinary I am also happy that you shared😁 your idea. One thing I have done with the skimmer is to add filter, floss or pillow, stuffing to catch even more of the microscopic bacteria.

Hey Collin just curious what reducer's you used. Size is the being the main question. I have done some other mods for a fountain and used the fernco couplings. Thanks in advance!
@@danielbailey7596 I got some 1-1/2" to 1-1/4" schedule 40 rubber reducers from Lowe's. The 1-1/4" side was a bit oversized for the inlets from the pool, but I cranked them right and they aren't leaking.
You know what may work vs the 3/4 and clamps is a rubber coupler reducer. I used them when going PVC and used it to and from pump and didnt leak. I also swapped all hoses with the flex PVC plus easier to adapt to my sand filter, when the clamp ever gets here. I like that you didnt have to cut a bigger hole. Sure better water flow and easier to put in fittings to go to 1.5 but not ready to cut. 1 wrong cut on hole and there you go.
I did something similar a few years ago only I put the PVC on the ground instead of on top of a stake or post ran it up to the ports and turned the 2 ports into jets with 45° elbows on them so that they are directional. I hooked the skimmer up to the other port that you ate using as a jet. I also hooked up a Hayward super pump and a cartridge filter for a permanent inground pool instead of the intex temporary pool equipment.
Forgive me if it's already been said, but you will get better filtration if you move the skimmer over to the inlet further from the outlet and push it as far away from the outlet as possible. Then point the outlet away from the inlets. This causes a swirl effect in the pool and really makes a difference.
Yeah I’ve had it in both inlets before you are correct it works best in The second one. And it’s hard to tell but I do have the return pointing away from the inlets. But the part intex gives you pushes the water more center then anything.
Here is what I used if you guys need sizes…. Two 3/4 PVC Pipes Two 3/4 to 1 1/2 adapters Three 1 1/2 PVC Pipes Three 1 1/2 inch Elbows One 1 1/2 Tee PVC Pipe One 1 1/2 Ball Valve One 1 1/2 to 2 Inch Threaded adapter
I agree, these plastic tubes crack in the sun. I would definitely upgrade. But when the pool is in use the walls wobble so the pipes would make cracking noises surly. I think replacing everything to PVC apart from one small length of tubing to the pool wall to allow flexibility. Then just replace this part if they crack again.
Great video! I’m just brainstorming in the comments to clean up the connection on the two ports from the pool to the pump. I’m trying to do it where I can still use my pool screen. One to keep debris from entering pump and the other to screw my skimmer onto.
Thanks 🙏🏼, yeah I’ve had a few saying they did a few different things with the ports. On mine I made it work with the screen and a skimmer. I didn’t put the PVC all the way through to holes. And I cut back the depth on the screen piece and on the skimmer so it met the pvc in the middle of the black rubber pipe. Hope this helps
That pipe was made Oct 11th, 2019 at 11:49am in Council Bluff Iowa just an fyi 😂. I work for Cresline in Henderson Ky and I look for the shift codes when i see our pipe in videos. Sorry its a habit lol. Good video.
@Life Less Ordinary Good deal, we just got a hard sode pool installed Saturday morning. Im going to pvc myself. Checking videos to see how people do it and any differences in any of them. Thanks for the video, i only have 1 inlet for the jet, so i wont have a double head pipe going in. But pretty much the same idea.
I never thought of this but we are in the same boat with the hoses. Woulda been icing on the cake if you listed the PVC measurements in a quick grab list. It would have made it even easier for me to do. But even without that this is a great video! Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate the comment, yes after the fact I wish I had added that info. But just estimate and ballpark the length it won’t cost much at all. Good luck if you make one 👍
Not that easy to make a list. Every pool is different, every pump is different. You can only get an idea from these videos, at the end you have to find what parts work for you. I can say that I found every adapter I needed at my local Home Depot. Besides the adapters that came with my skimmer and Hayward pump and sand filter.
Try and get away from the 1/2" inlet. On the inlet side you want the water to flow as freely as possible. Pumps are good at pushing water but really bad a at sucking water, so that the inlet is more important than the outlet. You can mount an external surface skimmer to these Intex pools and the connect that with 2" pipe to the pump. It's way better in getting dirt and bugs of the water surface and you don't have the thing dangling inside the pool. I know it takes some nerves to cut into the pool liner but it's well worth it. Something like this: ua-cam.com/video/Q2KU5WBhvCQ/v-deo.html
Did this to my last two Intex pools... CHANGED MY LIFE! Cut in the skimmer box where the return was and changed both the inlets to outlets using Hayward soft side returns. This is the kit to use! amzn.to/2RGoDXu
Definitely a good idea and thought about doing this however I would not suggest it considering when the pool is occupied the pool flexes causing the rigid PVC to move which it is not meant to do and will cause leaks especially if kids are in the pool. If anything swap out the hard plumbing to durable flex PVC
Put a little heat on the end of the original inlet pipe and then flare it by pushing about an inch of the 3/4 pvc into the end. Then you can slide the pvc into it and, viola, no leaks. I put a clamp anyway just for good measure.
I have two different videos on how I can vacuum. I’ll send you the links. ua-cam.com/video/kKeAUQzelao/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/5wpb5GsXXCc/v-deo.html
You could also cut the hole of the pool out so you can fit those 2 inch inlets that come with the bigger Intex pools. I know there's a video of someone on yt that modified his pool from 1.25 inch to 1.5 connections.
They look the same, I only pushed the pvc in half way. And the debris cover that goes on the inside I cut it back just a little so it still fits. It basically butts up to the pvc
Thanks for the video, with all that work you could replace that valves, like the one from the output, the only problem is that you need to make a bigger hole in the liner, but it will be more clean and you can close one when the skimmer is connected.
Great video and explaining what you're doing. I have a Best way 12x20x52 that we bought last summer. I just bought a new 1.5hp sand filter pump combo and I'm getting ready to do the same with the PVC plumbing. But I'm going to put the cut off valve to where I can use either side to filter the water. I can do plumbing, but I hate it.. lol.. P.S. I think schedule 40 ¾ will be too big for the holes. I say that because I use a ½in coupling to go in and it was a tight fit.
@@LifeLessOrdinary have you had any trouble with your sand filter ? Bought mine last year and now the pressure rises almost to red within an hour of a fresh back wash.
All of the ribbed flexi hoses that Bestway/Intex/Coleman pools come with are crap and designed to fail, to force you to buy new ones, driving their revenue. I eventually replaced the big ones leading to and away from the pump/filter with two inch thread-reinforced hose from HD, and a lot of PVC fittings/adapters/barbs to make everything line up. I am sure much of that will be obsoleted by switching to a sand filter, but we'll see. The vinyl lines I replaced to the suction ports do fine until heated up, at which point they begin to collapse, letting air into the system. I like the PVC option and will try it. In the meantime, I keep a small tarp over everything to protect it from the Florida sun. Easy to replace when necessary.
Can you do a video on how you created your pool design for the outside of the pool? I do not know the proper way to say it. But it is the mulch and wood part of your pool. It looks nice and beet.
How do you vacuum after installing this with the 3/4 pvc in both inlets? Neither the black plug nor the white adapter for the hose will fit in the holes now.
If your talking about the grey strainer cover that goes over the inlets on the inside of the pool, yes you can use those if you want. Is that what you are referring to?
I personally don’t use them, at first, I cut them back a little bit to fit in the hole better to meet the PVC in the middle. But after the first year of adding the PVC, I just don’t use them. If there’s any big piece of debris, it will get caught inside the pump filter No big deal.
Hi I came across your video nice job could you post everything I need to change all the holes to pvc measurements ect imma gonna go to hardware today to pick everything up
That grate it a safety feature not just a debris filter. If there is enough suction and both inlets are covered it prevents vacuum entrapment by providing a gap.
Thjs is a must do,Pvc pipes. install a sump with a 1 degree slope to the center, install center drain. pipe the drain in sand under the pool. Install a flow control valve To drain away from pool. Install a wide jacuzzi skimmer above your return skimmer and attach it to your effluent drain line to drain off overflow from rainwater. this removes the expensive cost and mess from installing a French drain. Keeps the pool from overflowing and damage.
CPVC, PVC 40, and PVC 80. Each has a different outside diameter. The cream color pipe you used is CPVC that is measured by outside diameter. PVC 40 and 80 are measured by Inside diameter. You could use PVC 40 in a 1" and coupled to the pool screens, but would be work best if you heated the PVC 40 and then pushed it on the pool spout. That way you could still install the screen covers inside the pool. Just a thought.
I am about to try both of these suggestions... Woke up to 2 hose leaking this morning... Could you clarify the heating of the PVC40 & pushing it ON TO the pool spout? Instead of into the rubberized area, correct?
I’m rounding up the materials as I type to do this project. Are saying that instead of pushing the 3/4” CPVC through the inside of the rubber and into the pool, that I should get 1” PVC40 piece, heat it, and then push the 1” pvc40 over the rubber on the outside of the pool while the pool screen is still attached on the inside of the pool?
He is saying instead of putting a 3/4” cpvc piece and sliding it into the piece attached to the pool that has the screen on the inside (inlet valve and return valve) to get pvc 40 and heat it up to soften it and place it on the outside of that same piece. Imagine the hoses not being attached and the valves just sticking out of the pool. Those pieces. So it’s not a lil lose.
@Life Less Ordinary that's what I was going to use plus thinking about putting two shut offs on each side of the tee so I can shut just one side off to vacuum
Great videos! In your fountain video you used the 1 1/2 to 40 mm adapters to connect to the intex hoses. However this video you just used a pvc male threaded end. So do I not necessarily need the 1 1/2 to 40mm adapters?
Did u upgrade your outward plunger? Where the water goes back into the pool my current pool is a 1.25 hole but need to do upgrade to 1.5 adapter to connect the pump.
I cut off about 3/4” of the adapter that you use to connect the basket inside the inlet, and it fits inside the hole. I didn’t push the pvc all the way inside so it gave me room.
@@LifeLessOrdinary thank you! I have rigged right now with a coupling and plumbers tape...lol I did push pvc all the way through. Maybe I need to back it out some.
Curious if you can or have ran longer lines to move the pump. we have a rectangular Intex pool and pump is against fence and would like to extend lines to move it out from middle of pool to corner more.
question, the piece(s) that go inside the two openings that the old hoses suck the water thru (you didn't show the inside of the pool after you put it all together). Did you just leave it bare once you inserted the pipes and clamped it down?
My pool has covers that will block debris from going through the hole. What I did was cut those back a little bit so they didn’t go in as deep. And they pretty much met the PVC in the middle and worked just fine.
I was curious if maybe running the pipe under the ball valve all the way down to the ground would be okay? I am going to do this conversion, but outlet pool sits on pavers. So, we Can’t drive a stake into the ground to brace it. I was thinking run a longer pipe down and having a type of pad to cushion it? Not really sure. Tossing around ideas.
Hi, what return outlet do you have? Is it directional that we can adjust to where we like to point? And how long you have your pool and do you have any rust and corrosion issues? Thanks!
Yes, I have a directional outlet, I tried to pointed to the side as much as possible, to kind of create a whirlpool. This is now my fifth season with the pool and no I have zero rust or corrosion issues.
@@LifeLessOrdinary Thanks alot for your reply. Could you send me a link or the name and manufacturer of your return outlet? I would like to buy the same. Thanks
So how then did you hook up your inside pool skimmer I’m having problems with getting air in the system so I think I’m going to try the hard plumbing system see how that works thanks
Hard plumbing is the way to go. When I had the inside skimmer, it comes with an adapter for one of the inlet holes. The other Hole I would leave open unless I needed more suction to the skimmer. Then I would plug it.
This channel literally saved my pool lol i was ready to shoot holes through it 🤣🤣🤣 now its crystal clear

You could also cut the hole of the pool out so you can fit those 2 inch inlets that come with the bigger Intex pools. I know there's a video of someone on yt that modified his pool from 1.25 inch to 1.5 connections.
Correct that might be something I do soon
@LifeLessOrdinary what does the inside of the pool look like where the inlets used to have the suction pieces?
They look the same, I only pushed the pvc in half way. And the debris cover that goes on the inside I cut it back just a little so it still fits. It basically butts up to the pvc
@@LifeLessOrdinary is that the black plunger looking thing or is it the gray ones? If you have pictures could you post them please…
Mine are the black plungers but grey will work also 👍🏼
Hi, we’ve never met, but your my new best friend.
Lol hey works for me
Having exactly this hose issue today, went looking for exactly this type of video. Thank you so much!!!
That’s great glad the video helps 👍 good luck with it
dont put your legs in backwards like his or it will move
I don’t have an above ground pool, but I watched to support your channel. I did learn more about PVC pipe than I knew before today though, thanks! 😂
So amazing! Great job. This did help!
I appreciate that comment 👍🏼
Thanks for the video, with all that work you could replace that valves, like the one from the output, the only problem is that you need to make a bigger hole in the liner, but it will be more clean and you can close one when the skimmer is connected.
I’ve thought about it for sure, i’m just gonna leave it the way it is it’s running pretty good. Thank you for the comment 👍
Awesome job man, having the same problem, very helpful
Thank very much 🙏
Great video and explaining what you're doing.
Let me know how it all turns out 👍
You’re just the coolest 🎉🎉 thanks mate
I upgraded to a sand filter and skimmer system last year. Cost more than the pool and now all my hoses leak. Gotta love Florida
My hoses went bad also, but after doing the pvc it’s been working great 👍
Not any more. The price of the pools skyrocketed
@@LifeLessOrdinary have you had any trouble with your sand filter ? Bought mine last year and now the pressure rises almost to red within an hour of a fresh back wash.
No I’ve had no trouble at all. Have you taken it apart yet after first installing it? You can get debris trapped inside the top part of the big barrel
@@LifeLessOrdinary yes I even replaced all the sand thinking it may help, I'm not sure what else to do! Must be an issue with the pump.
Yeah I agree the hoses that come with it are crap, you will love a pvc upgrade
Nice work
Like your deck/ stairs for your pool. Can you provide the link to buying that?
I plan on making video on how I did it and the materials
Can you do a video on how you created your pool design for the outside of the pool? I do not know the proper way to say it. But it is the mulch and wood part of your pool. It looks nice and beet.
I will do one once I open the pool this year, that’s a great idea.
@@LifeLessOrdinary ok thank you! I will be looking forward to it!
How do you vacuum after installing this with the 3/4 pvc in both inlets? Neither the black plug nor the white adapter for the hose will fit in the holes now.
I put the end that I used to use the white adapter with directly into the skimmer hole
Awesome Videos, very helpful! Just to clear ip, your PVC pipe replace the Pool inlet Strainer?
If your talking about the grey strainer cover that goes over the inlets on the inside of the pool, yes you can use those if you want. Is that what you are referring to?
@@LifeLessOrdinary Yeah, I like the idea of removing it and sticking with the pvc.
I personally don’t use them, at first, I cut them back a little bit to fit in the hole better to meet the PVC in the middle. But after the first year of adding the PVC, I just don’t use them. If there’s any big piece of debris, it will get caught inside the pump filter No big deal.
can you show how you have your vacuum hose hooked up? We cant hook it to the covers just wondering how you have yours hooked up please
Great idea I'm going to do the same thing. If you release that air in the pump filter you will get better pressure. Just saying.
Hi I came across your video nice job could you post everything I need to change all the holes to pvc measurements ect imma gonna go to hardware today to pick everything up
I didn’t actually change the holes them self just made it pvc on the outside. In the beginning of the video I lay everything out that I used 👍🏼
By doing this did youbget better suction power for the skimmer?
Yes because you can adjust the flow
Do you have a part list somewhere I’m missing?
Open up the description part of the video and scroll down you will see it
Excellent job you did. Great seeing you. Enjoy your pool.
Looks awsome great job Sir...I will be doing the same set up 👍
Good job
You might consider just plugging the two inlets and put in a wall skimmer. Easy to do and works a whole lot better.
Do you have a video?
@@tanyamorrison418 look up installing Hayward skimmer in Coleman or bestway pool. I found it.
That grate it a safety feature not just a debris filter. If there is enough suction and both inlets are covered it prevents vacuum entrapment by providing a gap.
Very important if you run the pump while bathers are in the pool.
I love this where did you get the valve
Ace hardware
Very nice job 👏 im doing that with my pool today
That’s awesome you will be very happy with it, mine works great
Thjs is a must do,Pvc pipes. install a sump with a 1 degree slope to the center, install center drain. pipe the drain in sand under the pool. Install a flow control valve To drain away from pool. Install a wide jacuzzi skimmer above your return skimmer and attach it to your effluent drain line to drain off overflow from rainwater. this removes the expensive cost and mess from installing a French drain. Keeps the pool from overflowing and damage.
I PVC pipe my 18X48 Coleman Pool I love it
That’s awesome 👍🏼
Great Job!
Thank you very much
Good video help lot
How do you vacuum the pool after you put different pipes
Here’s a link to a video on how I vacuum now
ua-cam.com/video/kKeAUQzelao/v-deo.html
CPVC, PVC 40, and PVC 80. Each has a different outside diameter. The cream color pipe you used is CPVC that is measured by outside diameter. PVC 40 and 80 are measured by Inside diameter. You could use PVC 40 in a 1" and coupled to the pool screens, but would be work best if you heated the PVC 40 and then pushed it on the pool spout. That way you could still install the screen covers inside the pool. Just a thought.
Absolutely yes that’s great information, I figured all that out after I did it lol. You are correct great info 👍
This would be nice to know. Still unanswered
What about a fernco fitting from the pool to the pvc?
I’ve seen lots of people using that 👍🏼
@Life Less Ordinary that's what I was going to use plus thinking about putting two shut offs on each side of the tee so I can shut just one side off to vacuum
Yes, next season once I put up my new pool that’s what I’ll be doing 👍🏼
Great videos! In your fountain video you used the 1 1/2 to 40 mm adapters to connect to the intex hoses. However this video you just used a pvc male threaded end. So do I not necessarily need the 1 1/2 to 40mm adapters?
I would use the adapters because the pvc thread is just a tiny bit different so in some situations I needed heavy Teflon tape.
@@LifeLessOrdinary Thanks! Overnighted some and will give it a go tomorrow!
Robert Rackley let me know how it all turns out
Did u upgrade your outward plunger? Where the water goes back into the pool my current pool is a 1.25 hole but need to do upgrade to 1.5 adapter to connect the pump.
No I don’t change the return side. If you make that end larger it won’t circulate your pool because of low pressure.
How were you able to connect skimmer basket to this set up?? We plumbed with pvc yesterday but no basket now:(
I cut off about 3/4” of the adapter that you use to connect the basket inside the inlet, and it fits inside the hole. I didn’t push the pvc all the way inside so it gave me room.
@@LifeLessOrdinary thank you! I have rigged right now with a coupling and plumbers tape...lol I did push pvc all the way through. Maybe I need to back it out some.
Basically I pushed mine just enough to get a good hose clamp grip. Which gave me enough room to slide the adapter in on the other side
Your list of part says 1 1/2 ball valve but the Amazon like you have is for a 1 inch. Which one is it?
You would need 1.5” the seller on that link must have changed it. I’ll find a new link to post 👍🏼
where do you buy that hose that connects from the pvc to the filter basket Thanks
You can buy them in Amazon 👍🏼 they have different sizes
@@LifeLessOrdinary Thanks!
nice job trying to find your video about your lights

Thanks
Curious if you can or have ran longer lines to move the pump. we have a rectangular Intex pool and pump is against fence and would like to extend lines to move it out from middle of pool to corner more.
I don’t see that being a problem at all
question, the piece(s) that go inside the two openings that the old hoses suck the water thru (you didn't show the inside of the pool after you put it all together).
So, we
Can’t drive a stake into the ground to brace it.
I was thinking run a longer pipe down and having a type of pad to cushion it? Not really sure. Tossing around ideas.
I think it would be perfectly fine if you added a longer pipe down to the ground
Great job, Nate. Interesting and smart idea with that TX heat 👍🏼
Great job! Where can I find the black seal, stop that is on the inside from the pool so the water can not get out.

@@LifeLessOrdinary thx
Why does the PVC work without the air valve that comes with the original system?
I’m not sure which air valve you’re talking about?
Hi, what return outlet do you have? Is it directional that we can adjust to where we like to point? And how long you have your pool and do you have any rust and corrosion issues? Thanks!
Yes, I have a directional outlet, I tried to pointed to the side as much as possible, to kind of create a whirlpool. This is now my fifth season with the pool and no I have zero rust or corrosion issues.
@@LifeLessOrdinary Thanks alot for your reply. Could you send me a link or the name and manufacturer of your return outlet? I would like to buy the same. Thanks
Absolutely 👍🏼
Here is the return part amzn.to/3qoaQFN
This is what it connects to on the outside amzn.to/3N4mMpj
Thank You so much for the video
Did you use the plastic inserts that came with the pool for the inside of your intakes ( the ones the screen screw onto ) ???
Me personally no I don’t, I don’t find that they help much
So how then did you hook up your inside pool skimmer I’m having problems with getting air in the system so I think I’m going to try the hard plumbing system see how that works thanks
Hard plumbing is the way to go. When I had the inside skimmer, it comes with an adapter for one of the inlet holes. The other Hole I would leave open unless I needed more suction to the skimmer. Then I would plug it.
This video shows how I run my system now.
