    1. Walmart is bigger
    2. Target is more upscale
and the differences between the various Walmart's is based on the community and how much thing cost they are all the same size

In some of the older Walmarts. The grocery and department stores are separated by a wall, no pun intended. It wasn't until they decided on the one-stop shopping concept that the open floor plan came about.
The Walmart in my town. All the groceries are on the bottom floor, and all the departments are upstairs. The shopping cart locks into a special drive chain that parallels the escalator.

And to answer your questions, yes. There’s always Disney stuff at target. Not all Targets lock up razors and cleaners etc…. I’ve actually had never seen that. Depends on the area I think. I was once in a target that had facial wipes locked up but all the other targets I’ve been to, that’s never happened.

The stuff that’s locked up is because in many major areas of California there is a huge theft issue with these stores. As far as which store is better, it comes down to preference and for me Target is way better than Walmart. Plus if you have a Target Red Card you get 5% off of your total purchase and it can be a debit or credit card. We’ve used it to buy Disney Gift Cards at a discount to pay for our Disney trips.

i think Target and Walmart have many similar items but Target is much more pleasant to shop at as other have commented on and is worth the slightly higher cost. Walmart has a warehouse feel to it. Target has less food options, even in their Super stores and very small selection in big and tall clothing items (if any). It was a super center for Target you visited per their sign. FYI-Stanley work cloths (if that was what you were looking for) usually are sold at discount stores like Big Lots.

The two stores are the exact same idea, but Target is like a step up. It's a little nicer, a little "friendlier" feeling. Prices are slightly higher, sometimes a little less. Quality is usually a little better. We tend to split our shopping between the two. Depending on what we're looking for. You get good at knowing what's a better deal at which.
Stores will lock up things that they have a problem of theft with. That Target apparently isn't seeing a lot of Lego theft, whereas the Walmart was.

I tend to like walmart better because the supercenters have more items to choose from, since targets are not as big as a supercenter. For one example, target doesn't have a full garden section like Walmart. Target will just have seeds in the spring, some bags of potting soil, a couple of outdoor furniture sets, and that's really about it.

Deodorant was locked up so people don't just "help themselves" to the product; razors were locked up to deter the same as well as "slashers"; wine was not because for most wines, you need a glass; corkscrew; and most Americans don't like warm alcohol either

The Legos in the video have the security cables around each box. The associate or cashier have to remove the device before you can leave the premises. Wal-Mart usually has the same devices for inventory over $50 in value but might have added the locked displays like they use in the electronics department just because of volume. It can be time-consuming to unpack, secure, then stock the item then have to remove the device minutes later at the register (compared to the associate unlocking and retrieving the merchandise from the case).

Watching all the videos from when you were here, enjoying them all! FYI: Walmart and Target are not the same type of store, comparing them is like apples vs oranges. Items are locked up in different stores depending on the theft ratio of the products. The same items, NOT locked up in other stores, are either tagged or............ look up! There are HUNDREDS of cameras watching every step of EVERY shopper - in the ceilings, on end caps of isles, hidden on shelves, etc..! and ALL license plate numbers are recorded......all of these issues, along with higher mandated wages, contribute to the ridiculous prices these days in Southern California. I am born and raised here for over 70 years, so am used to it, but gets tougher every year!

Crazy how we take Target for granted. We usually mobile order and pickup in the parking lot, so that we don't have to go in. :) Saves money too so we don't throw impulse items in the cart. As far as things locked up it really depends on the City/State you're in and their crime and theft rates. In my state none of that stuff is locked up.

I work for the maker of Charmin/Bounty, as well as Gillette/Old Spice/Venus. These size of toilet paper/paper towel packs are all dependent on the store regional location. Some stores carry many different sku's and some only get a few sku's because they don't have a large enough shelf space or traffic for that particular store. Plus Walmarts & Target stores are considered Mass Stores, which is not the same as a grocery store or a pharmacy store. Then there are Club stores (Costco & Sam's club) that get totally different pack sizes that are not allowed to be sold at Mass or Grocery stores.
Then the deodorant and razors being behind locked doors. Yes it is totally a theft issue also called Loss prevention. There are also some problems with the "blades" of razors being weapons. The rationale behind what goes behind the locked glass doors are based on the location of the stores. Which I think is really silly. A tube of lipstick is $9, a tube of deodorant is $6, they don't put the lipstick behind glass doors. Lipstick is smaller and can be put in a purse easier than a tube of deodorant.
Your comment about K-Mart is a good one. I view them as this. . .Walmart is definitely all about the price. Their clothing styles are really lower end, basics. While Target is a bit more expensive than Walmart, but much more trendy with the styles. Here in the Oregon area there are only a few Targets that have full on grocery sections. Most have just a small area of select sku's. They are more about the soft goods. While Walmarts are all about the groceries, and only the Super Stores have the large selection of soft goods.

At the time I only knew the Detroit area and the largest store I knew of was a four story Hudsons in downtown detroit. Extra spiffy and known for àlways having the biggest American flag that I ever heard of. 2 1/2 stories tall at least. Attached to the bldg and always had the lights on so it could be out 24hrs a day.

@@lindascott6902 That's true for what we call "American cheese", which is just cheap and tastes like it. It's also not real cheese, honestly (and we Americans all know that). It's just cheap & melts easily which is why lots of Americans use it. That said, I don't know when exactly you lived in the US but, charcuterie boards have become such a trend, that there are so many international cheeses being sold in the US right now!! I'm sure some of them don't travel as well as others but, variety is not really a problem.
On the opposite side of that, I'm an American currently living in the UK and I have had a difficult time finding cheeses that will work for some of my family's Fresh Mex recipes! Actual American cheeses like Monterey Jack, Colby, or Pepper Jack and Mexican cheeses like Queso Oaxaca tend to work the best and they are not common in the UK at all. (That said, I did finally manage to track down Monterey Jack at Whole Foods, it's just pricey). So, yeah, no place is perfect and no country has everything that everybody wants for every recipe.

Electronics(laptops, videogames/consoles, etc.) are the only things Walmart keeps behind a glass case, well and the firearms(if they're one that carries those). This is just where I live though, it probably depends on what gets stolen the most in different areas.
