No joke, this is your best cabbed sound I’ve heard on this channel. Instantly heard improvement on the first chugs. And that’s saying something because you’ve already had a sick tone. Keep the content coming brother! 🤘🏾
X pattern on cab means they are alternating creamback/v30 so each side has both speakers. I just upgraded from peavy 6505mh to evh 5150 iii. Only going into slant vert 2x12” with v30’s
@@Andersrain18 is noticeable. 27 seemed sorta pointless to me. I couldn't tell, even examining the signal. The cork sniffing gear brigade will likely say otherwise.
I've been running 18v and 24v for a while. I can't tell much difference in it, maybe in playing feel. There is a difference in sound between 9v and 18-24v The benefit of the 24v mod is that the 2x 12v cells fit in the same space as a 9v, the downside is the fact they don't last nearly as long as a 9v and that every time you go into a store to buy the 12v cell, someone automatically assumes you're about to power up something odd...
@@Tristbagstore? Amazon sells 12v batteries. I bought a 6 pack and it lasted longer than the emg pickup. I traded the whole ass guitar, and gave them the extra batteries for free
So glad I googled your name today and found your youtube channel. Listening to you play the riffs and catching up on those old interviews with mark and the jason one. Holy cow this is awesome
I have the original 24v mod in my guitars. They do give a tighter more aggressive response, but they also give a bigger low end. Not more low end, but a bigger and better sounding low end.
While we've never done it like you described, MFA was playing an RA-600 during the Chimaira rehearsals a few months back! There's a cool photo floating around for the two of us both holding RA-600's... it's pretty sweet!
The Invective amp is also worth checking out though given your core sound, the 6505+ already delivers all the necessary goods. X pattern basically refers to a diagonal layout of two different pairs of speakers. Like speaker a to the left and speaker b to the right on top, and then speaker a to the right and speaker b to the left on the bottom. Supposedly provides a good and balanced blend of sound from both sets in a 412 setting.
Right on! I hope to demo an Invective head soon actually! Thanks for the info on the X pattern. I wish now that someone would chime in and tell me which speaker is which!
@@RobArnoldWorld I think the top right and bottom left is the V30. I've got the 2x12 and the right one to my ears is the V30. Hope that helps as I haven't removed the back.
@@RobArnoldWorldif you mic each speaker, the v30 should have more midrange than the creamback. Creamback will be scooped on the midrange. I’ve heard great things about mixing them in a cab. This video proves that right.
I had the 20 watt Invective head and really didn't give it much of a chance and sold it really soon after I bought it...I am stupid like that and have sold way too much gear for being stupid..
The cables have this little sleeve type thing that presses and releases when you’re plugging it in and out. You don’t have to press anything, they’re pretty awesome
@@RobArnoldWorld I definitely recommend them. What is really cool about them is if you happen to damage the cable by the end of the input, you can simply unscrew the input housing (excuse my terminology lol), cut an inch of cable off, then place the input back on the cable and screw it back into place, which then makes contact with the cable. Pretty cool. 👍
Congrats on the new cabs Rob! Peavy has been making quality products forever. I'm a big fan of the Vintage 30s myself. They've been my speaker of choice for over 20 years. Loved your comment, "Plug in and Rip". That might have to go on some new merch. Another quality video!
I guess x-pattern means the speakers are put in top left bottom right for one type and top right bottom left for the other, opposed to the same type on one side and the otter type on the other side.
Those Invective 4x12 and 2x12 are amazing. The speaker combo is incredible. My other favorite cabs are the Friedman or Synergy cabs with Greenbacks and V30s.
Cabs/speakers make a huge impact on tone and feel. I just went to a mixed speaker 4x12 for the first time in 35 years of playing. I really like what it does for my tone. The mid-range is much more detailed. It's not subtle. There is definitely more mid-range content and spread.
The cable plug you're talking about is the "SilentPlug" made by Neutrik. It uses a simple mechanical switch to mute the cable, whenever that switch is not pressed in. I used one of those like 12 years ago. Works really well.
The set-up you're using (in conjunction with the 24v mod) sounds a lot like what the MOD sound that Scott Ian achieved on the landmark album! I always wanted that sound! Chudos! ⚡️🤘🤘
I've been playing with the so called 18v mod for my EMG's since the early 2000's and seem to hear more head room and recently got the 24v mod and don't really hear too much of a difference from 18-24, but 9 - 18 you kinda do. Those Peavey Invective cabs sound really good and they will sound better once you break them in! \m/
Man, I just got an Emperor cab with the creambacks and v 30’s in an x pattern, just like those. It sounds amazing!! Thanks for bringing this pattern to the world Rob, your bringing better tone to the world
I've never been too impressed with the Invective heads (tried a few) compared to the OG 5150/6505, but I gotta say the newer Peavey cabs including the Invective ones are indeed incredible. PERFECT matches for the 5150/6505 heads.
Congrats on the new set up man, also I think it would be cool to hear what the other guys in the band felt about the reunion shows and being on stage again...??
Sounds sick! I didn't realize you had the Digitech control with the GSP, kind of rare! I picked up a GSP from Christian of FF back in 2019, and it's a really cool piece with great effects. If you ever do decide to change it up I think you'd dig the AxeFx stuff.... I went from the GSP to a 2XL+ and it's effect selection and amp/IRs are enough to keep a guy busy for a long time!
Yeah man! I've been rocking the GSP since around 2006/2007, and I've really liked it. I'm definitely interested in stepping into some more modern technology, but nothing has stood out to me as perfect yet. I'm waiting for the next generation!
Please bring chimaira back! I grew up on you guys. When I seen you with whitechapel and motionless my friends and I lost our minds! I speak for everyone when I say, we want Chimaira back!
The only problem with the 24 volt mod, did that for awhile, they drain faster than the 9 volt or 18 volt mod. If one of the 12 volt batteries start to lose its juice, suddenly one of the pickup will stop sounding. Either the bridge or neck. So during gigs I always had to bring a bunch of 12 volts to start off the gig fresh from the start. So I just stick to 9 volts again.
Went to the 24v mod for about a year. Found myself missing the amount of compression running them in 9v. They almost sound meaner to me in 9v. Maybe its just the sound im more used to. Idk. Its worth a try either way.
I’ve used the 24 volt mod on a couple guitars. Definitely better attack and you get longer battery life too. The 18 volt mod is good too. Emg recommend it for when you’re using the afterburner or pa2. Love your channel and all that you do. Thanks Rob!
Those cables that Ola is talking about have been around a long time, I had one about 18 years ago. The brand was Planet Waves, which was an offshoot of D'Addario, but they seem to be fully branded under D'Addario now. It was a cool idea but the issue for me was the cable quality wasn't great and the killswitch was part on the jack. All of their jacks and cables used this propriety solderless connection so swapping the jacks to better cable wasn't possible. Maybe theres other brands out there doing it these days
My humble suggestion, if I may. I like to mic up my Mesa cab X pattern 2 Vintage 30's 2 K100's with a 609 on the V30 and a 57 on the K100. Gives you best of both worlds, all the low end/mids and highs. :P
@@RobArnoldWorld That's a tough one with those 2 speakers unless you open the back to see. I know the EQ curve is SLIGHTLY mid scooped on the V30 compared to the creamback. That's also nice with the k100. It has huge cone caps so you can tell which is which. If you still have your Mesa's maybe try an X-pattern like mine or T-75 or even cream/greenbacks. Probably a cool shootout.🤘
I know exactly the cable you're talking about! I think it was monster that made the? I had one in highschool and lost it after a battle of the bands. It was nice though: you could even use it like a killswitch!
Wow! Those cabs sounded huge in the low end, so tight and punchy! And I'm just a sucker for that crushing 6505+ tone, so good! 🤘🏻 Also that 24v mod got me interested, even thoug I don't have any EMG equipped guitars, maybe I will add 'em in one of mine and this mod could be a cool upgrade to try out! As usual, a very enjoyable video, full of good stuff and great vibes! Cheers! 🤘🏻
Watched through TV first, then through some good headphones..and man..those cabs sound so crisp! All the while, still getting just the right amount of low end making the tone just absolutely crushing!! If I heard right, you briefly mentioned Ola. Add Bernth in there and you have my top 3 YT guitarists. Any thoughts on a collab with them? Thanks for consistently bringing amazing content to the world!! 🤘❤🎸
Awesome man! And I'm honored to be a part of your top 3! Ola mentioned that we should have a coffee if the opportunity ever arises! And I was just watching a Bernth video a few minutes ago! I'd love to collaborate with those guys on any level!🤘
Those cabinets sound killer! The X pattern just means the V30’s and creambacks aren’t next to each other. For example, the V30’s could be top left and bottom right.
Dynamic range EMG 81 with 24 volt is warmer, more aggressive, more tight, and more clarity. but, in Indonesia hard to find battery more than 9 volt. so sad.
If you have a good rack eq, not a pedal eq. With 30+ frequency bands or more. Stick it in the 6505+ fxloop S/R. 6505+ needs to be double scooped. Remove 2k & 4k, 8k-16k frequencies. Gets rid of the sizzle highs for dirt tones.
Sounding great Robbo. I recently got a 6505+ chasing your tone. Now i know why you use such a high gain setting on the 6505+, because it has waaay less gain on tap than the normal 5150/6505. Love your sound big man. Btw you gotta try greenbacks
Cheers brother! I didn't know that the 6505+'s had less gain than the 5150's. But thinking back about them, I always felt the original 5150's were like an uncaged beast. I felt they were super hard to control. Then when I found the 5150 II's, and the 6505's, I was more easily able to tame their power, and use it in a controlled way that I preferred. Perhaps that's that difference you spoke of!
@@RobArnoldWorld yeah apparently James Brown revised the circuit, namely filtering out more bass frequencies before the preamp, tightening up the distortion but in turn reducing the amps overall gain.
Thanks man! For my cleans and FX, I use the Digitech GSP 1101. I talk about it more in depth in this video if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/E4rrR_ULrwU/v-deo.html And yes, that's a 57. I think it may look strange because I have a 90 degree mic cable plugged into it.
Put the 24-volt mod you will notice the difference in the cleans they are a lot thicker I have 24 volt mod and all of my EMG guitars also the mick Thompson Jackson with Seymour Duncan blackouts
The EMG 81 definitely sounds better at 24v than at 9v. The other pickups improve similarly, though some to a lesser extent. I have an EMG ES-918 so I can run my guitars at 18v with the batteries in a pedal (essentially) and a TRS cable from the guitar to the EMG ES-918. Unfortunately, EMG increased the price of the ES-918 by 40 bucks ($129 -> $169), which is absolutely insane.
Just wondering, how do you get all this gear? I just recently bought the ESP LTD M1000 HT. It’s amazing. I have a Boss Katana 100W. I see your videos and just wonder how you afford all this stuff? My LTD is from my wife as My bday, Christmas, anniversary. My dream amp is a Mesa Boogie MKIII Coliseum . Some day I’ll get there
That's the spirit man! Where there's a will, there's a way! As to how I acquire my gear, much of it I've acquired over the years as a professional touring musician. I've strived to maintain great relationships with all of my endorsers, and I'm finding that UA-cam today, creates many great opportunities!
@@RobArnoldWorldI bought that guitar as well, your review sealed the deal for me. I noticed yours was Indonesian and mine WM Korea, I have to wonder what the quality difference is compared side by side, if any. Anyway, cheers on the vid, great cabs and sound, the 24v mod sounds killer
Oh right on man! And that's interesting to hear that the same model guitar is being manufactured in different locations. I don't know that I like that!@@roosky203
@@RobArnoldWorld Yea, it's a common practice now with demand high, they make multiple 1000 series in Both. I try and buy them used and the Korean models myself, they always been consistent at World Music over there.

Man, I just got an Emperor cab with the creambacks and v 30’s in an x pattern, just like those. It sounds amazing!! Thanks for bringing this pattern to the world Rob, your bringing better tone to the world
🤘
nice!!!!! sounds nice and thick.I always thought you have a great ear . i always thought mixing the Celestion is the way to go
Hey thanks man!🤘
I've never been too impressed with the Invective heads (tried a few) compared to the OG 5150/6505, but I gotta say the newer Peavey cabs including the Invective ones are indeed incredible. PERFECT matches for the 5150/6505 heads.
Yessir!
seemed like it BOOMED more on the 24v and was cleaner instantly, with more thump and maybe even a tiny bit less pick noise
The new cabs sound great! I can’t wait for some more content showing them off.
Thanks man!
Congrats on the new set up man, also I think it would be cool to hear what the other guys in the band felt about the reunion shows and being on stage again...??
Thanks man, and you're in luck as I'll have a guest by my side for the next episode of EYL!
Thanks Rob think I'm gonna get 2
Two Invective cabs?? If so, AWESOME! And I'd love it if you used my link! 👊 sweetwater.sjv.io/PeaveyInvective
I know you'll love em'!
You are one of the kings of metal guitar 🎸
👊
Just found your channel. Sounds great!
You playing those in Drop C?
X patter means v30 top right and bottom left, cream back top left and bottom right(or vice versa). So its like an X
I wish I knew which was which!
Wait! the Mesa's are gone? The Peavey's sound great!
Please bring chimaira back! I grew up on you guys. When I seen you with whitechapel and motionless my friends and I lost our minds! I speak for everyone when I say, we want Chimaira back!
🤘
Realy good song buddy !!! 🤘😎
Great cabinets. Not exactly easy to find...took me a minute to seek one out, but soooooo worth it!
Damn that sounds good!
The Invective heads are sick also. Im only using the MH for now cause i live in an apartment but it rips. Its An interesting 5150 variation.
I hope to get one for myself soon!
I’ve used the 24 volt mod on a couple guitars. Definitely better attack and you get longer battery life too. The 18 volt mod is good too. Emg recommend it for when you’re using the afterburner or pa2. Love your channel and all that you do. Thanks Rob!
Cheers bro!🎸
I think the cables Ola uses, and I use myself, have the Neutrik Silent Plugs. I get custom cables made in the UK with them and they're awesome.
Thanks for sharing!
Oddly enough my current best sounding cabinet is a mid 80's Peavey MS412 w/Celestion G12K85's. My Boogie and Soldano cabs don't even come close....
Awe hell yeah! That’s good stuff right there🤘
Those cables that Ola is talking about have been around a long time, I had one about 18 years ago.
Nice 👌
My humble suggestion, if I may. I like to mic up my Mesa cab X pattern 2 Vintage 30's 2 K100's with a 609 on the V30 and a 57 on the K100. Gives you best of both worlds, all the low end/mids and highs. :P
I'll give it a try! I just wish I knew which speaker was which!
Merci!
Hey cheers and thanks so much brother! 🙏 I appreciate your support! 👊👊
It sounds brutal rob 🤘
🤘
I know exactly the cable you're talking about!
I think it was monster that made the? I had one in highschool and lost it after a battle of the bands.
It was nice though: you could even use it like a killswitch!
After hearing a bunch of dudes chime in, it seems like there are quite a few options available!
Cheers! 🤘🏻
Cheers Jules!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorldcoffee with Ola and you has to happen. I'd watch the shit outta that. And I reckon it'd do great things for your sub count.
I'm ready when Ola is! Seems like I've got to head to Sweden for that though! @@WholeLottaBulldog
Those cabinets sound killer!
The X pattern just means the V30’s and creambacks aren’t next to each other. For example, the V30’s could be top left and bottom right.
Right on! Learning something new every day!
Dynamic range EMG 81 with 24 volt is warmer, more aggressive, more tight, and more clarity. but, in Indonesia hard to find battery more than 9 volt. so sad.
Sounds great! 🔥
Sounds sick man🤘🏻💀👊🏻
Sounding great Robbo.
Hi Rob ...awesome tones as always ♥ Which unit did you use for the effects on the clean tone? is thta a SM57? it looks different .. thank you
Thanks man! For my cleans and FX, I use the Digitech GSP 1101. I talk about it more in depth in this video if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/E4rrR_ULrwU/v-deo.html
And yes, that's a 57. I think it may look strange because I have a 90 degree mic cable plugged into it.
Rob, what tuning were you in for those opening riffs? They sounded badass. The cleans sounded great also.
Everything in this vid is drop C!
Put the 24-volt mod you will notice the difference in the cleans they are a lot thicker I have 24 volt mod and all of my EMG guitars also the mick Thompson Jackson with Seymour Duncan blackouts
I'll try it!
Let's hear some new elite!
I'd love to as well! We have indeed started the process!
Killer sound bro! 💀💪
🤘
Sounds totally BA! I love peavey amps.
I think the regular battery is more your tone. Great new cabs...wow!
And btw- congrats on your M-1000HT! I love mine!🎸
You need the EVH 5150 stealth asap.
I'll see what I can do!
24volt powered EMG , thats why I refuse to switch to Fishman.
