I own both of them the 226 Legion and the 229 Legion, the 226 is better for accuracy than the 229. The grip is more comfortable on the 226 for me than the 229. The 229 is smaller and lighter so could be better for open carry or concealed carry. I also feel I have less kick and more control using the 226 than the 229. Hope this helped to make a good decision on which one to get.
Yoyi M- Thanks! I just bought a Sig p226, not knowing they made a 229. IS THE 229 GRIP FATTER? After I found out they made a "shorter 226" I took my 226 to the store and compared them and the 229 grip did feel slightly different but I couldn't figure out exactly why. I thought I might sell my 226 and buy the 229 because that would make a better carry pistol with the shorted slide & barrel and it would be easier and faster to clear the top of the holster. What do you think? Which model do you carry and shoot more? Can you tell which one has more muzzle rise/flip? Theyrew both great guns and either way Im glad I found them. They're like a working man's reliable 1911 that holds more rounds than a revolver lol Thanks!
+Kustom Hooligans The 229 is a double-stack magazine so the grip thickness is a little bit thicker than a P226. I would definitely carry the P229 over the P226 because the 229 is smaller and it's easier to carry and feels better on your waist. My P226 is my bedside fire arm it has a 20 round mag and a Streamlight TLR-1HL flashlight.
+Kustom Hooligans And yes the 229 does have a little bit more kick to it than the 226. I feel like the 229 flips more then the 226. I enjoy shooting the 226 more then the 229. The 226 is easier to handle the grip feels a little bit better it's not as thick and I seem to have better accuracy with the 226.
Yoyi M… I agree with you 100%! Just found out all of what you said today. The 226 is much better at everything! The 229 is great but not as great as the 226!
It’s a great all around pistol ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxnX9wE_Q8zvF75Y5iWzTU3Q4FlrtyGApQ , doesn’t fit in plastic glock 19 holsters but will fit in some non plastic ones. The location of the safety isn’t very good because your finger will accidentally activate it but it can easily be removed by pulling on both sides at once. Don’t lose the red o-rings while doing that.
I have both 226 and 229 Legion - love them both. My favorite Sigs out of the 10 I own. No kids, no mortgage and both wife and I have Exec salary - gotta love those toys. (Her thing is jewelery).
Kyle Wood: Own both the 229 & 938 Legion in SAO and love them both. The 938 is my EDC. Can’t believe those triggers, especially the 226. Now I’m wondering about adding the 229.
One thing I can note. When I carry The P226 that miniscule little extra length that you measured in the video is the exact length that will be visible poking out at the bottom of most shirts I wear when carrying OWB with a shirt covering.
Not to mention most people appendixappendix Carry these days… I think I’m gonna go with the 226 Legion and a good holster… I’d rather have the extra barrel length and weight
I LOVE the SIG P226 and P229! My original W German P226 in 9mm and original P229 in .357 sig are the ONLY two pistols ive ever owned that NEVER malfunctioned. Not once! And they were easily the most accurate pistols in my collection. My P226 could group 5-rds into .9 to 1.1" at 25 yds with its preferred load although 1.5" was all but guaranteed. The P229 wasnt far behind with 1.3" to 1.6" groups. Amazing pistols, both of them!
Damn ---------both are beautiful. My son has the Legion 226 and is getting the Legion 229. I think you are right , if you factor everything in its not that bad a price. Im really enjoying your channel and shared it with my son. Thanks
Very nice video. I already have a 9mm Sig P229 M11 A1, and was considering adding a 229 Legion to my collection, but have also been looking at the 226 Legion. Nice to see your comparison of both. Since I already have the 229, I’m going to add the 226 Legion.
Thanks for the great vid. I have a P226 Legion and a P225 Single stack. The 225's slide lock is easy to access but when I upgraded to the 226 the slide lock was very difficult to lock open and I could not use it to release the slide. I went to a gunsmith and he welded an extension on and ground out the grip a little and it worked fine. I used it at a Strategos security workshop and had no malfunctions in 600 rounds. Now I'm wondering about the 229 for easier concealed carry. Thanks for the informative video.
Decisions: About to finish transfer of my G17 to my cousin and purchase either P226 or P229 non legion. I currently own P220R & P220R Carry, just need more range time with the P226/P229, time will tell. Thanks for posting, keep them coming!!!.
Steve Jenkins have you tried reduced weight springs to get a slightly lower trigger pull? 10 lbs is noit bad but my old 2003 p226R has about a 7.5- 8lb trigger and it is very nice. Curious as to how low of a reduced spring can cause light primer strikes.
Good review I have a Beretta subcompact in layaway but am really looking at the P229 just the standard one or spend the extra and get the Legion is it worth it ? thanks a lot for your advice in advance
I have a question. I bought the P226 Legion, it's my first Sig and I didn't know they made the 229. I bought the 226 for a carry pistol and I like the accuracy of the full length barrel. My question is, would it be worth it to buy the 229 in order to get a shorter slide and barrel, or do you consider the difference in length between them to not be enough to be a factor? I just thought a shorter barrel would be an easier, shorter draw from a holster and faster to clear the top of the holster before you could bring the pistol up to shoot. Thanks!
I'm intrigued by the difference between old and new. I have a West German-made P226 that I purchased new in 1994. According to the spec sheet in DA mode it has a 12.12 lb trigger pull. In DA mode it's 4.4 pounds. After many thousands of rounds it still feels like new. Was told by a friend those triggers start to lighten up s bit after about 15,000 rounds. We'll see...
Question! So I’m looking on the market for another P226 since I’ve sold my last MK25TB and I wanted to try a different variant since im gonna be spending a decent bill for one. I was looking at the P226 TACOPS and the P226 Legion DASA. I want to make sure I get the most combat efficient model and I understand that yes they are both practically the same gun. But I’ve heard that since the legion is built more tightly, would it have a higher chance of malfunctioning if dirt or whatever gets inside of it over the less tightly fitted tacops. For example MACs channel he ran the legion and it totally choked and I do understand that not all legions would choke like his. So what’s your experience and take on the legion being combat reliable?
My P226 RX with Grayguns flat trigger & 19# mainspring has been great, very accurate and reliable . The flat trigger helps me index the DA trigger pull, because it breaks at 90 degrees. I've been shooting it at my local club as a Carry Optics IDPA gun. The Grayguns HD aluminum base plate pads work well for the stock and Met-gar mags. Now I am trying to decide between the P229 and the P225 A1. Like the size of the 225, but like the capacity and available RX on the 229. Hope to get both on the rental range soon, as the local range normally has good selection (last trip I rented Sig P210, CZ Target Sport Orange, and a Wilson Combat custom!). Cheers
go (edited) Excuse me, You cannot get 15 rounds in the magazine. I just got P229 so far so good, but cannot get 15 rounds only 14 in all the 3 imagines that came with it. Anyone have this problem and what is the cure for this???
Load the mag to 14 and let it sit for a week. My 229’s mags when brand new were a challenge to get the 15th round loaded. Or buy a speed loader and let it do the work instead of your thumbs.
I was in a gun shop in Florida today and I had the owner put a 229p with really cool non-slip grip in my hand and I have to ask Sig why they did not put a front rail on that gun?
I have a question. I have read many complain about the PVD finish not covering every inch of the gun, uneven coat, wears off easy, bare aluminum thus exposing the aluminum to excessive wear. I even heard frames cracking. I dont' think it would be a problem with 9mm but in .357 Sig I think the frame could be suseptable to crakcing
Is the p229 thicker in the grip? I’d heard that the p229 was built around the 40 S&W and is thicker in the grip than the p226. Is there any truth to that?
@@mrgrump2534 knowing what I know now I would agree, but that was 4 years ago when 40 was a big deal. Since then I have several p226 and a p229 all in 9mm. I have one 40cal that is a S&W m&p
"Same magazine", I heard you saying . Very Nice, because that is really my doubt about this two sig pistols . I think It Just missed you demonstrate the magazines' change, I mean, putting the magazine's p229 in p226 and so on, because for us, foreigners who's watching the video, is necessary. Even so, the best video about this theme, "p226 vs p229", that I've found. Congratulations.
Unless Sig changed something on the Legion models, the P226 mags can be used in P229, but the P229 mags won’t go into battery on the P226 as the grip blocks the magazine from fully seating. At least that is the way mine work.
If you think that is expensive I’ve got a custom $4800 staccato XC you would love to shoot… Legions are nice but the 226 Legion is just way better than the 320 legion in my opinion or any other Legion out there… something about that DO/SO trigger pull
Love my sig P229 in the 9mm, so much, I went back an got me a sig p229, SIG 1911 in the 9mm SS, model, 938 9mm, 238 in the 380, an a AR-15 IN THE 5.56 CAL, I got around 3600.00 dollars in it too, but if you want the best, you got to dig deep, the best is not cheap, I own other firearms, like the glock, 22 in the 40 cal., an the 92 SB, in the 9mm, they all shoot good, but what can I say, I love my sigs
I have a p226 made in Germany and I am interested in all of you upgrade suggestion. Can you send me the address of all the vendors so I can make the proper inquires and purchase's Thanks!!!
I wanted the 226 SAO really bad until I went to Shot Show 2016 and handled one. IMHO the reduced size controls on the SAO are simply too small and I found it very uncomfortable, and almost not tactically sound, having the half size thumb safety as my thumbs had trouble staying perched on them. I also found it very difficult to engage the thumb safety after disengaging it, my thumbs slipped off them trying to push it up. Now this may all smooth out with use, but brand new it was a pain. The trigger on the SAO is AMAZING though!
The Legion's are nice and would love to own one. The only thing that I don't like about them is the long extractor. Since I buy my Sig's used because I'm on an budget, so unless I can find one used, I can't justify the price tag
IMO, the P229 is better if you shoot 9mm, and the P226 is the way to go if you prefer 357 SIG or 40 S&W. I personally have never been a fan of large pistols in 9mm when there are mid-sized alternatives. Too much additional weight and inconvenience for little discernible improvement.
CPT OF INFANTRY large 9mm pistols especially the sig have a lighter recoil impulse due to the weight of the full size all metal frame and slide .. double taps for days ... my double taps With my sigs make my glock patterns look like an amateur shot em. When you get towards the top of ipsc shot placement really starts to matter.
living in CA I can't own either Leigon pistol, I do have a 229 enganced elite though, id really just like to have a leigon for the simple fact I love sigs. It sucks theres a leigon club that I cant even be a part of smh
Steve; Iam just after super "accuracy" thats all. If you look at the "Big Picture" they really did nothing to address that issue. Trigger, night sights, grip, finish and coating, stainless steel guide rod are all "great" but they missed the "Big Picture" in my "humble opinion". Just for the record I have "on order" a P229 "Legion" in the 357 sig version from Cablelas. So Iam NOT bashing Sig just trying to make a good suggestion for them.
+Chuck P The X5 and X6 pistols. They are (I belive) hand fit limited production pistols. They have target oriented features such as extended slides and barrels (5 and 6") SAO triggers with the SIG shop trigger work done, adjustable overtravel, adjustable micrometer sights, barrel weights, all that kinda stuff.
I agree with you 100%. I bought the P229 Legion about 3 months ago fell in love with it and now I'm considering the P220 Legion.

8digitPDX no, 229 is to short

Why is the SP2022 always being compared to P226 when it's shape and size is closer to the P229?

Does da/sa use different trigger bar spring? I need trigger bar spring for a 229 legion sao.
Make sure you follow proper take down protocol when taking down sigs with a srt system. Decock the hammer before ripping the slide off

226 all day
I have a question. Even so, the best video about this theme, "p226 vs p229", that I've found. Congratulations.
Unless Sig changed something on the Legion models, the P226 mags can be used in P229, but the P229 mags won’t go into battery on the P226 as the grip blocks the magazine from fully seating. At least that is the way mine work.
in the sig P226, in the 40 cal., correction.
Most the people who don’t like the Legion series are people who don’t have one. Jealousy is a bitch. These guns are awesome!!
Picking up my legion 226 tomorrow along with my 365 and 2.0 compact and sr 22 am I all set????
@@bobwhite8111 damn son!
you keeping that FFL in business lil Homie
If you think that is expensive I’ve got a custom $4800 staccato XC you would love to shoot…
Legions are nice but the 226 Legion is just way better than the 320 legion in my opinion or any other Legion out there… something about that DO/SO trigger pull
I'm either getting a legion or an emperor scorpion tomorrow......
Like the guns.am heading the Legion versions are a better value for what your getting.Like your ring too.nice.
SAO vs DA/SA?
226 legion vs 226 sao legion?
I know I'm late, but you have it backwards. The 229 comes in sao. Not the 226
226 legion comes in SAO as well!
i want a p229 in canada but not allowed since barrel too small by law :( arrrrrgh!
Anything special difference than the regular p226?
YeuLaKho The trigger and sights are upgraded, but you can get the SRT and night sights in more modest P229 variants, or aftermarket.
Time saver = Only difference is the sizes of the two. Bigger size = less felt recoil. You're welcome.
I love Browning Hi Power, Berretta, Sig,Walter PPK, S&W and HK P9s
CZ is the bomb!!
I like cereal….. I like chocolate milk
The bottom line is to go to your gun store and check out which pistol you like better
I think I will go with the 229 legion because if I get a 226 then I can get the MK version!!!!!
George KAISER mk 25 navy
Love my mk25
Was considering the same!!
I have a p226 made in Germany and I am interested in all of you upgrade suggestion. Can you send me the address of all the vendors so I can make the proper inquires and purchase's Thanks!!!
I LOVE my Legion 229. would like to get my hands on a 226 legion SAO
Good video.
If only they made an SAO for the 229
Aaron Grant they do now.
@@RyanHedlund99 they do? I haven't seen any
Roger Jin www.sigsauer.com/store/p229-legion-compact-sao.html
DLC coated?
The Legion's are nice and would love to own one. The only thing that I don't like about them is the long extractor. Since I buy my Sig's used because I'm on an budget, so unless I can find one used, I can't justify the price tag
+Scott Smith That's very smart, and don't worry - they'll start showing up used and discounted. :)
+Steve Jenkins (Ferrari Steve) Once they do start showing up used, I wonder if you'll still get all the perks that comes with being an Legion owner.
Scott Smith no unless the person who gives it to you gives you the guns account info or they don't use the serial number themselves.
2 oz. difference isn't enough to to worry about.
@@skoppi2146yes it is
living in CA I can't own either Leigon pistol, I do have a 229 enganced elite though, id really just like to have a leigon for the simple fact I love sigs. It sucks theres a leigon club that I cant even be a part of smh
Why not? they have 10 round compliant mags for this gun!
That’s such bullshit that you can’t have a gun unless it’s on your roster
I really wish Sig would have put in a "Customized Bull Barrel that is Crowned" to make it a really nice pistol.
It doesn't need one. Is there a specific reason why you think it would need such a thing?
Steve; Iam just after super "accuracy" thats all. If you look at the "Big Picture" they really did nothing to address that issue. Trigger, night sights, grip, finish and coating, stainless steel guide rod are all "great" but they missed the "Big Picture" in my "humble opinion". Just for the record I have "on order" a P229 "Legion" in the 357 sig version from Cablelas. So Iam NOT bashing Sig just trying to make a good suggestion for them.
+Chuck P That is the X series is about. Legion series is a "combat" oriented pistol.
hi there, so when you say "X series" do you mean their Mastershop series of pistols????
+Chuck P The X5 and X6 pistols. They are (I belive) hand fit limited production pistols. They have target oriented features such as extended slides and barrels (5 and 6") SAO triggers with the SIG shop trigger work done, adjustable overtravel, adjustable micrometer sights, barrel weights, all that kinda stuff.
229 is available in SAO
as a lefty, would I be miserable with these firearm?
parker simpson buy a dak model Sig and have the custom shop work on it.
Good advice, thanks
parker simpson fyi if u go on sigs site under legion. The video I believe shows someone shooting Lefty.
I’m a lefty and love my sig p226 legion sao only way to go
I own both, carry the 229 but the 226 is by far the best shooter I own
9mm? Is recoil much better on 226?
@@mrdato116 yes but not by a lot, I don’t feel much recoil on the 226 and some on the 229 which is a great carry pistol.
@@mrdato116 oh and yes 9mm
