It really isn't that hard to find used old production P226s for under 1000 bucks, I understand theres the appeal of them being new production and limited edition, but 1200 bucks is still pretty fucking steep for such a basic handgun
100% true, I just got a 1993 West German for 700 the other weekend.
@@jeri_v2578 why is it so easy to turn every conversation about a new Sig(re-release or not)if into one about a used gun for marginally less?
@@Chef_Of_Sandwich Because generally speaking, minus a couple things, their older guns are better built and cost less due to being used
@@Chef_Of_Sandwich Because they revamp their models so much. How many different models of the 320 are there? I've lost count. Same deal with the 226.
Buying an older model probably makes sense unless someone just has to have the new color combo sig puts out.
.
@@jeri_v2578 OK I totally get where you’re coming from but I’ve heard bad things about some runs of them too like cracked slides, crazy rust problems, and other random stuff too. if I’m looking in the used market for such a gun what time period(era) Should I go for to get this unmatched quality in the modern-day times you speak of? Not being sarcastic just wanna know.
retro with a modern price i bet
💯
$1200 for a modern SIG without a rail? I'll pass. They tried even less with this reproduction than they did with the P210
I was like, "Oh that's cool. They're just offering a really basic P226 that'll probably cost around $600 bucks like the base Beretta M9/92." Then he said it'll cost $1200!? 🤯
@@Bristecom Greedy and lazy. I remember when SIG was a decent company, but I swore off of them almost a decade ago. I'll stick with my Berettas!
@@burmiester1 I like their P365-380 but other than that, I think they often miss the mark (pun intended) with quality or price. They mass produce for governments so they shouldn't have to charge so much and they price-lock/price-fix the retailers too. I greatly appreciate Beretta continuing to offer their lineup of old and new at good prices, including the imported models!
$1200? Meanwhile beretta is still making the same m9 for about 1/2 that.
And they're horribly put together by diversity hires in TN, to the point Beretta Italy shut down the Gallatin factory to send people from Italy to train the workers.....and the Gallatin factory still puts out utter shit. You get what you pay for.
I agree but a M9 for 599$ is 200$ over priced also ..sense girsan pumps them out with g10 grips and pic rails for 399-459$ new
@@sleigh4019 Yeah but Turks basically use slave labor lol
An Italian made pistol will undoubtedly cost more because of EU restrictions, taxes, labor wages, etc.
@@burmiester1and people wonder why everything is made overseas nowadays. Americans are happy to sacrifice American manufacturing just to have cheaper stuff
@@rklkify It's too bad
These are great I’m sure but who the hell is paying $1200 for a basic 226 with no modern features that’s just as reliable as a beretta 92 that costs half the price
I just bought a trade in for 450😂
@@robertharrington8065 nice. The beretta 92 style is one of the nicest pistols ever. I carry a 92x every day. U’ll really like it
This. Beretta 92 was the direct competitor and never went away. They still make them and you can get them for around $500.
These aren't even faithful recreations and I bet they are gonna be 1000 bucks
And that top-heavy wobble is just horrible. I have an original W.Germany 226, and it's a lovely keepsake, but that wobble is stupid once you feel the recoil of any modern gun with the standard low bore axis. You can see the bouncy wobble in the slo-mo footage in this video. So goofy.
@@yupyup4209 More than that! $1200! For a BASE MODEL P226!
I like how they removed the P226 nitron (the actual base model P226) like right before releasing this thing, so u can’t easily compare how this thing is like 300-400 dollars more than the nitron model was. Like I get that y’all want the retro look, but a 300-400 dollar upcharge simply cuz they removed the rail on the bottom and gave it an old case is ridiculous.
Greed. Simple as. The guy acts like they had to re-engineer the frame too, and that's bull. SIG was offering P226 models without rails (the Tribal) as recently as TEN YEARS AGO. They are still producing the M11 too, and that doesn't have a rail.
@@burmiester1 true, I forgot about how recently they had been selling non railed P226s. So they legit didn’t have to go “dig up” anything.
Hell they didnt even bring back the stamped steel slide either
Federal contracts have messed with their brains.
1200 bucks no thanks.
Not surprising since FN did the same thing with their re-imagined High Power. It's just frustrating that they could've spent less on the fancy packaging, manual, and grips to bring the price point down. As it stands now there's literally no reason to pick this over the Mk25 unless you absolutely can't stand having an accessory rail or you've got a ton of old P226 holsters that need to be filled.
@@mmiski At least FN's new Hi-Power is a different design. This is a stock P226 without a rail. They couldn't even be bothered to recreate the old style parts like the takedown lever, mag release or two-dot sights. SIG basically expected to slap "retro" on a base model and charge what effectively amounts to full price. I'm not a Glock guy but Glock busted their ASSES to get the Gen 1 Classic G17 as close as they could do so while still being practical. They even recreated the flat extractor!
@mmiski The new FN version is a complete dumpster fire. Should have had a rail if going THAT direction. Total failure. On the other hand, the SA-35 from Springfield did it right. True homage to the classic with just the right quality of life improvements, including magazine interoperability. Fuck FNs abomination.
@@burmiester1 Glock's Austrian Military Pistole 80 reproduction was also spot-on with everything besides the Austrian military proof marks & the Tupperware box. The Austrian military would not allow Glock to reproduce the proofs & the box has the gen3 finger grooves molded in.
Sig produced some runs of "legacy" models of the P229 and P226 a few years back and they were actually cheaper than the standard version. As far as I can tell, that is all this is.
I worked at a shooting range from 2002-06 where we had a variety of rental guns. The P226 was the only gun that was more durable than Glocks. Our customers shot that thing so much that it did start having trouble and we sent it back. They pulled the breechblock out of the sheet-metal slide and replaced it and the gun worked fine again. We wore it out again and then I think SIG refused to fix it a second time, but that was still an epic amount of shooting through that thing.
🇬🇧 SAS 22nd veteran "Andy McNab" wrote & said often how the SAS in the 1990s 2000s chose SIGs over Beretta, S&W, Glock, HK. The unit liked how the P226s P228s 9mm ran, worked. Some used P230s in plain clothes ops.
If Sig really wants to bring back retro rifles, why not some true 550 rifles?
That's a rifle I'd actually buy from them.
We have the 550 line in Europe. They are beautyfull made and extremly reliable. I have the 553 that works with 7.62x39 AK mags.
They are verry expensiv and i dont think most volks are willing to pay 3500-5500€ for a rifle.
That's Sig Sauer AG. It's a separate company from Sig Sauer inc., but owned by the same holding company in Germany. Not confusing at all. Lol
This is not an homage to the old German Sigs. This is an homage to an early 00’s Sig.
I am a major p226 (WG) fan!
Carried and used one on duty for years and years.
Still have it and will always have it!
Still carry it and will as long as I am able.
I am quite disappointed that Sig can't build and sell a basic p226 for $800 or even less?
Yeah, that makes no sense to me. The Beretta 92FS can be imported from Italy and still cost half as much despite being even more complicated/more expensive to make than the P226. I've always wanted a P226 but I'm not paying over $1000 for one! They never used to cost that much!
Looks as if the p226 is not for you!
@@darrelldunlap7249 If I get one, it'll be a P226 Legion SAO on sale.
This should be $600 maximum, Sig...
Well since they insisted on using the far more expensive MILLED SLIDE for this "retro" model that ain't happening. Greed!
Absolutely
Will this be converted to a DAK format? Maybe Gray Guns, Bruce Gray can do it. The top pistol gunsmiths are slowly ending work, 2020s.
Yep.
Most 226s are $1200, WHUT?
My thoughts exactly. You can find Legion models on sale for around $800 from time to time.
@@ripthejacker6020 I guess he not wrong looking at SIG site prices, but I just remember getting my 226 in the 2000s and was no where near that even new.
Anything over $600 for used P226 is nuts. They really need to bring back the P227.
Brand new? $1200 is par for the course. Paid $1250 for my Mk 25 back in 2019, and my 226 Legion was around $1400 last year.
James being the ultimate gentleman- sig has lost their minds
Hopefully this motivates S&W to release the 5906
Indeed!
4006❤
Spoiler: It won’t. To get the tooling up and running for one model of firearm is a big waste and gamble. Even a few of the model lines from that era isnt worth it for them as the cost to sell them now would be easily $1000+. Unfortunately they’ve switched to polymer along time ago as the bread and butter of money making.
@@President-Nixon that's what I heard as well. A modern 5906 would be so expensive it wouldn't be competitive in today's market.
I wish!
I still have my P226 that I bought over 30 years ago. It’s a keeper!!!
From a shooter's standpoint, I'd opt for the Mk25. Costs less and has more features.
I have the Mk25. Great firing gun. Perfect for security work. I paid $1,200.00 for and I have no regrets. The grips feel a lot better than the previous grips and is more comfortable.
I wanted it as a collector but after the price tag nevermind. I paid less for my legions.
It's insane
I like that it malfunctions right on camera.
Modern Sig
I'm down for this. I hope it's affordable. Shouldn't be more than $700 street, right Sig?
Edit: Fuck me, Sig. $1200? Thanks. A CA compliant P226 Nitron is only $850 right now. Damn, I wanted one of these.
P226: gun that built the reputation of Sig.
P320: gun that ruined the reputation of Sig.
P320s are fine.
But their reputation isn't. Lol
LMAO...so true !
@@Adam-zi5se if you ever get the chance, shoot an old-school P225, and an old-school P220. They are excellent weapons.
The M-16 had a shit reputation at one time too
Coming back? It never went away 😉
Rail-less though
@@SomeKidFromBritaintrue but they have the M11
@@Sig_P229 longer slide than that though
@@SomeKidFromBritain Who needs Rails?
Bring the SIG 556 back!!
Bring back the P227!
Still here in Indiana.
In 10mm as well
@@ElTejon47901then those are old stock. Sig discontinued them a few years back.
@nikik5567 LOL, no, still made for ISP.
SIG stopped COTS but I don't buy COTS shlock.
The most underrated 45 ever. P227 tactical elite. Came with 4-14 round mags. Try to find one of the mags, $180-250 if you can find one. Mine runs suppressed like a champ.
Price tag has the comments ready to size the means of projection
They really shot themselves in the foot with this one. No wait, that's the P320 😬
$1200 for this is way too high. $800 would be more appropriate. The same people who thought the carry version of the Sig 210 was going to be big success probably thought this one up.
Sig barely sells a single handgun under $1,000...
The 226 Tac ops was awesome, and 40 to 357 sig was brilliant!
I see used 220s and 226s for 750 or less all the time. They are the elite versions too whatever the difference is
Needs a stamped and welded slide
Yep, otherwise there's basically nothing retro about this P226. They didn't even recreate the German mag release and takedown lever
Then it would cost $2000
Actually, the solid stainless is more durable. That being said, I will pick up a classic sheet metal slide 225 when I find it.
@@btfup Of course it's more durable, but it also results in the price being doubled. It's also not a "retro" SIG if it's modern in every aspect sans rail
Wait, this is what they went with instead of a proper Sig Sauer 550 release in the US?
Pathetic!
Supposingly the most elegant, classic looking, gentlemen SIG ever made. Love It. An icon. And a corner stone of SIGs company history. A collectors item. Reliable, durable, robust, precise, overbuilt, beautiful. My German stainless, black coated P226SL now has gone through about 40.000 rounds in 20 years and looks still like new. Just frequently changed the springs. Some Navy SEAL P226 may have gone through 250.000 to 500.000 rounds. What does somebody want more?
I still have my retro sig P228 and the box. In my opinion it looks so much better than the ones with a rail.
I have 2 JJ code P226's that are my all time favorite pistols, will be ordering this baby ASAP!
I adore seeing more guns and styling from this era brought back. Peak aesthetics, and they look much prettier without the rail up front IMO. And I do love it when they go the extra mile and recreate older packaging too.
finally, a new sig I want! it's about time.
Had a chance to buy a leo surplus one back in the 90s from a neighbor. He wanted $ 300 , thought that was too f- in high. Kickin myself for that one..
This is really cool bro!!
No rail either :) brilliant!!!
P226, best lefty gun making a comeback
They need to bring back the Tacops P226 with the Magwell grips and an optics cut
I have a used one. Can't recall what it cost. It's a very nice pistol!!
100% getting one
Just find a pre owned P226 Legion for around $950 like I did. People trade DA/SA semi autos all the time.
Glad to hear this. I had a 1991 PreOwned 226 about 10 years ago and it was great. Has better balance than the one with the rail
Next to the 210, the 226 is the best Sig ever made. Excelsior!
The original stamped versions go for over $1200, but the milled stainless ones can be found for much less. It was the stamped slide that gave the original p225, p226, and p228 their great balanced feel. I have a handful of the pre-rail milled stainless Sigs and they really don't compare to the stamped predecessors' balance feel.
I literally bough 2 P226 never issued LEO in .40 cal for 499 a piece. Came with night sites, 3 mags, new in the box. And you want 1200? 😂 I have a P226 legion DA/SA I paid 1100 for....
I hadn’t realized how expensive new 226s have become. Last one I bought new was like a decade ago when I found a close out 226 tacops for just over $700.
I always think of trading my P226 nitro in on something newer or cooler. But James 226 love videos always make me glad i bought it, and the fact i cant justify a staccato
CDNN in two years: $399
Bring it!
THERE we go. That’s more like it!
If the slide is milled it is an imposter and a total fail. I also have one of the original West German guns with the folded and welded slide which to me is the best one ever made. I appreciate the effort and I am not mad, just disappointed. ;-)
I’ve bought all of my West German Sigs (226,228, and 220) for $600 or less within the last couple years, and I still see them show up in LGS’s for around those prices. $1200 seems kind of silly.
NEXT From Sig.. A Pistol from 45 years ago... Yeahh
At least you get:
A basic 226 that doesn't have the OG Sig pedigree for way too much.
The pistols from 45 years ago were far better. I'd be ECSTATIC if this was a West German quality SIG
I bought my west German P220 in excellent shape for wayyyyy less than $1,200. Don’t get robbed people!
lol SIG USA saw there was a market for old Sigs (gee I wonder why) so they decided to make a new/ old Sig to cash in. "Yeah stop buying that old stuff. What do you want that for anyway? You want our new old stuff ..."
Sig is dead. Long live Sig. Seeth harder Sig USA.
I still have an '85 226, w. German made. It's still head and shoulders above in quality than my new 226 elite.
I wish it had the OG stamped slide for that price hike
Bring back the caliber exchange kits for the p200 series handguns and this might actually sell
I was really hoping for the rolled steel slide. I have a West German P220 with the rolled steel slide and heal release magazines. It was imported by Browning as the BDA and is in .45 ACP. It is a fine pistol.
for a Base P226 the price should be around $749.. I"d just get the Mk25 and save a few hundred
Here’s a sig I can like.
I have always wanted an Sig P226 , I have a Texas Ranger Sig P320 , n I have a P365 as my Derringer type piece , also love my Canik Rival n Mete n still Love my Glocks !!!! Guns are a Beautiful Thing !!! 💥🔫 from Commy Ct.🇺🇸
The p226 is legitimately my favorite pistol, but even then I've always felt there was a needless premium on the price tag. I don't see how it's twice as expensive as a Beretta 92 series. If this was closer to $700 I'd be all about it, but not $1200.
I'm not a pistol guy. But I want one. Used them in the military as well as the M9, Glock 19, M1911 and M15 revolvers.
So you’re telling me I could get this or a legion? What is sig smoking?
Government contract money, mostly.
I wonder if it has the same slight slide to frame rattle that made them so reliable back in the day.
That super high bore axis... Whao..
Ok make it available in 357 Sig like the 226 was
Oh thank God! Now I'm going to find a new 1967 Mustang...
I am carrying an old German frame P220 without a rail and an SAO Legion slide on it, so I am down with this for sure.
Yall had me at p226

I have two 228 made in west Germany sig 9mm STRAIGHT OG. My pops gave it to me
$1200 for a basic version of a 40 year old gun is insane.
Great handgun. I carried the SIG P228 for 19 years as my plainclothes duty handgun. It never let me down. I still have and still shoot it frequently.
I love a DA/SA (or DAO) hammer fired handgun with NO safety, just a hammer drop feature like the P226/228. Best carry gun ever made!
DAK or DA only guns are +. I saw a few trade in LE DAK guns in .40, .357sig, 9mm. FAMs ✈️ used P229Rs for many years. State agency troopers like DE, VA had .357sig pistols too. Many years. Texas DPS; troopers went between P220Rs and P226Rs in .45, .357sig.
Fair price since the box and all
The retro stuff u get
So, does it rust like the classic as well? I had this as my sidearm over in Angola in the early 1990s and it was a rust magnet.
BRING BACK THE 556 PLS & THANK YOU
Sig is an Ar18 company now... No room for those pesky impingement systems.
@@jackbauer4186 The Sig 556 is long stroke like an AK lmao
I own a W German 226 and wish it had a light mount.
I like the classic sigs myself, in fact I do carry a vintage P226 in 40 myself. But I don’t see this as a next purchase since you can still get vintage sigs for cheap still (relatively). This isn’t a stamped steel slide like the originals and not from Germany. If a Sig without a rail is what you are looking for you can still go on the used market
I have two west german sigs. Sig definitely used to make a more quality product than they do now, and for a better price back then. Quality has gone down while prices have gone up. I guarantee you can find many used german P226s for significantly less than $1200.
But does it come with the P320’s surprise discharge feature?
P239 🤤
is this what i should get to complete my Michael Westen cosplay?
i know he uses a 228 but what's really the difference when I'm a burned spy looking for whoever did me wrong?
Does the frame crack?
That's great but it doesn't say "Made In West Germany" on the rollmarks
That's the least of their problems. Aside from having the old frame style, grips and box virtually none of the features on this gun are built to the original specs.
I’ve had three W Germans. They aren’t that good.
For that price they should include a dvd copy of point break!
Oh man, I'm a sucker for 80's and 90's service pistols, and I love my West German 226, but I regularly see nice police trade-in's from Europe and Israel for half or a 1/3rd of that price.
What happened to the P225 relaunch?
But will it be as good as my MK25?
I bought brand new a Mk 25. Great pistol!
I guess im gonna pick up that used p226 at my local fudd shop for $650 now lol
Mmm retro MIM
This is what we wanted.
Want a retro P225 (has a huge trigger guard for use with heavy gloves) with a lighter folded slide (lighter is better) and a heel magazine release (far less prone to accidental activation and more easily operated while wearing heavy gloves).
Two words SHORT EXTRACTOR!
Cool. Now do the 228.
Are they retro quality as well?
Can we get a P226 with an optics cut?
How about the p227?
