- Many trekkers feel that carrying a trekking backpack is difficult. Often trekkers ask if they can hire mules to offload their backpacks. While on most treks you can, the fact of the matter is that carrying a backpack is not as difficult as it is made to be.
Backpacks these days are so designed that the weight is distributed across your hips and shoulders (especially if you are carrying an internal frame backpack, as most of you will). It is the hip that is actually doing most of the lifting. Hips are the strongest bones of your body and can carry a lot more than the 8 - 9 kg of your backpack.
In this video, Dhaval Jajal, Senior Trek Leader and Film Maker at Indiahikes shares a few essentials with you to make carrying your backpack easy. Take a look!

Yes Maximum weight of your backpack should rest on your hip/waist. Your shoulder should carry around 30-40% of the weight else you will get shoulder pain soon.
