According to my experience I always carry one more small bag to put used clothes in a separate bag if I have not got it in laundry. Because used clothes can create smell in fresh clothes even if they are in poly bags.
Backpack with airflow back board with steel frame and mesh helps us to carry heavy pack easily for a long time, one such backpack is tufaol tragoose 70 L, this backpack can be carried for any distance without any difficulty, it is very light weight due to nylon material.
How about the hair and other accessories ? For example comb, bands..cameras ?? Etc etc.. Do we need to carry separate bags for them? Btw quite useful video
It is a good idea to pack things i small bags instead of haven all the things loose i the backpack. That makes it easier to find the things and you don´t need to unpack everything.
HI Swathi could u please make video on how tp choose a ruck sack ........ and the best option available .............and the difference between back pack and a ruck sack
Good video. Did you missed a raincoat and backpack waterproof cover. From now on I will keep all my clothes in separate plastic bags because last time rain water got inside my backpack and all my unused dress got drenched even though I used a backpack raincover. It was the first day of my monsoon trek. I had to sleep at night in tent wearing only shorts in my sleeping bag, both was partially wet. So guys if you could get plastic bags for your each and every dress you don't have to worry about the rain or accidentally falling in some water stream.
Kindly share tips on how to lock the backpack..My emerance rucksack is a single zipper and I am unable to lock it..Since I can't carry the bag for cabin Babbage and it needs to be used for check-in baggage for air travel
Good to hear that you loved Triund Trek, now you can start trekking on more beautiful trails, a bit more challenging and more rewarding. Like Nag Tibba in Uttrakhand, or Beas Kund from Solang Valle, Manali.

hey swathi, love your videos, they are very useful :) what should be the weight of your backpack when you are trekking with indiahikes or other companies where you dont have to carry your tent and sleeping bag?
Hi Neha, thanks for watching the videos! :) The last time I trekked for 8 days, my backpack weight around 7kg with all my warm layers in it. If you can keep it around that, you'll thank yourself on the trek! :) Here's an article that might help you with what NOT to pack - indiahikes.in/not-take-trek/
Hi Subhajit, we usually check in our backpacks because they don't allow trekking poles, swiss knives, etc as cabin baggage. It's better to check it in than take it as cabin baggage.
The backpack in this video is 55L. I'd say that's the ideal size because it gives you the flexibility to use it on shorter (4-5 days) and longer treks (10 days). Wildcraft, AdventureWorx and Deuter make good backpacks. If you're trekking with Indiahikes, I'd recommend renting our backpack. We've made this with a lot of care to be the best backpack we have used. So you'll save some bucks and you'll have an excellent backpack! You'll find it here - www.store.indiahikes.com/products/trekking-backpack
Well the size depends on how many days you are trekking & for brand, it would be best to explore any Decathlon store. They have a variety and you will also get help in selecting. Also the cost is economical. I would recommend to purchase atleast a 40L rucksack. If you want to carry your own cooking gear & sleeping bag, min 60L rucksack will be reqd.
Useful for trekkers who can understand english language...for those who don't understand english language this all videos are useless... I request Swathi to make videos using Hindi language so all Indian can understand.
You can lock the zips together. You do get locks for that. But most airports don't allow you to lock your luggage. After a security check, they lock it themselves with a tag. So there's really nothing to worry about.
For Himalayan treks, should we be prepared to carry these backpacks with us all the time or we will be dumping these packs at a place and carry daybags during the trail?.. Sorry,am a novice... please clarify this..
If you wish to offload your backpack, this option is available at an extra cost. Indiahikes & many other trek organiser provide this facility. But this option is not available on all Treks, you must check about this while booking for a trek and also confirm it directly from the organizers (email / call) before joining the trek. If you are offloading your backpack, carry a separate 15L-20L day pack to carry your essentials, as your backpack will be available to you once your reach the campsite.
A 55 litre backpack would be ideal. What is your budget like? If you have a small budget, try renting a backpack? That would be better. You could try deccanmountainclub.com
Swathi Chatrapathy My budget is around Rs. 2500. What do you think about these mounttrack backpacks which are available on amazon? They are in my budget, plus they come with 2 year warranty and features described are as good as other expensive backpacks
A 35 litre backpack would be very small for a ten day trek. You'll definitely need something bigger. Go for a 50-55 litre backpack. If you're carrying your own tent, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, etc, then you'll need something bigger like a 65 - 70 L backpack.
Hi Shantanu, I use the Teton backpack on my treks - the one you see in this video. You'll find a video of it here - indiahikes.com/teton-scout-3400-backpack/ On another note, you'll find details on how to choose the right backpack here - indiahikes.com/choose-right-backpack-trek/
Hi Swathi Thank u for the video. For a 9-10 day trek eg Goechala i want to buy a backpack of 50-60 liters so could you please help which one is better in Quechua backpacks ?
Hey swati, this is Aditya . I have choosen the roopkund trek for this summer and got lot of review on going through the trek the himalayas website. I just have a small querry as i have a athletic built body i haven't hit the gym for few months. This will be my first trekking experince. Is that okay which i choose for the trek becuz i want feel my breath with this. Appriciate if u could help me with my decision that i made
Hi Virat it's great that you're planning to go on the Roopkund trek. I'm not sure if Trek The Himalayas has a fitness criteria. We do have one at Indiahikes, which helps guide trekkers which trek they should be doing. Nevertheless, go for the trek only if you're fit - that is if you can run around 4 km in 25 minutes. Whether you have past trek experience or not, fitness is more important than anything.
Thanks Swathi your vedios are very helpful to prepare for the my trekking knowledge . Though this time i am not coming with India trek but next time will seek u guys for my upcoming treks. Keep posting vedios those are really helpful.
Hi Sounak, for a 1-2 day trek, a small 30 L backpack will do. If you are trekking in the Himalayas over a weekend and need to take all your warm layers, then maybe a 40 L backpack. You'll find some detailed guidelines here - indiahikes.com/choose-right-backpack-trek/
Untill you get an expert advice from Swathi, checkout available backpacks at Indiahikes website. For more options, checkout Decathlon store. Now size depends on how long you will be trekking, no. of days & if you will carry your own camping & cooking gear. I would recommend a 40L backpack. If carrying your own camping gear, 60L backpack is a must. I purchased Forclaz 40L & Forclaz 60L.
Bhai I hope you have figured it out, nevertheless, I'll say it. Most backpacks now have a torso adjustment system, I don't know about 6years back, I'm pretty new here. Also body height isn't much of a hindrance, try to keep the waist strap above th bones of your hip girdle, roughly around your navel. Then fiddle around with shoulder straps to adjust and distribute weight. Like if you are of a smaller built, keep weight on your hips fir some time by loosening the shoulder straps, then after some time shift it to the shoulders by tightening them shoulder straps. This way you'll now tire one single part of your body
Ideally, it should weight around 6-7 kilos. This is if you're trekking with an organisation and not carrying your own tent/sleeping bag/food. If you are, then your bag will likely be around 12-14 kilos.
It's a 55L backpack. It's a Teton Scout 3400, you'll be able to find more details of it on our website where we have reviewed it - indiahikes.com/teton-scout-3400-backpack/
Well this totally depends on your budget. You can checkout Indiahikes website to purchase / rent a backpack. For more options, I would recommend you to explore 40L - 60L backpacks at Decathlon store. They have a variety and are cost effective.
My first backpack from Decathlon was Forclaz 40L. But 40L backpack is not enough if you need to carry all camping & cooking gear, hence I purchased Forclaz 60L. It is good enough, specially if your are just starting with trekking and don't want to invest a lot of money. Other than top loading, it also has front zipper, options to carry tent & mattress at top & bottom.
Hi Swathi, thx for the informative video, not just this one but all! looking forward to the Kuari pass hike with India hikes in March. can u send me the bagpack link, where I can buy one ? my 75liters pack will be an overkill for the Kuari hike. thx
Hi, 75 litres is indeed an overkill. I would suggest you go for a Wildcraft Trailblazer 50 litre backpack. It is one the decent backpacks available in India. If you have someone coming from the USA, try and get the Teton Scout 3400. It is the best bag I've used till date. Find a review of it here - indiahikes.com/teton-scout-3400-backpack/
If you're trekking on your own, yes you need a sleeping bag. But if you're trekking with Indiahikes, we will be giving you sleeping bags, which are expedition grade and can handle up to -10 degrees. You'll find a video on how these sleeping bags are made here - ua-cam.com/video/5lV2IXjeQ20/v-deo.html
Checkout Indiahikes website for the backpacks the have reviewed & available for sale/rent. For more options, checkout Decathlon store. For starters, you may choose a 30L - 40L backpack
hello, is 50L bag is enough for all essential u have packed here, PLUS SLEEPING BAG, TENT, portable alcohol stove AND MY DSLR KIT (CANON 750D, NO TRIPODS)
Tent goes inside the bag close to your back for better weight distribution and place clothes above it. Helpful note : only carry about 30% of your body weight in your bag.
Hi Ankit, it's better to trek with an organisation first, get the hang of it and then go independently. If not that, start trekking locally and camping independently. After that you could go on an easy Himalayan trek and complete it independently. If you want to start off with an organisation, you'll find all our treks here - indiahikes.com/upcoming-treks/
The best thing to do is keep them with your warm layers. All of these things tend to get cold and drain out quickly (especially the power bank and batteries). So wrap them up with your fleece / woollen socks and keep them in your backpack. If you have a lot of photography equipment to pack, this video will help you - ua-cam.com/video/-UHSShcSVd4/v-deo.html&t
Hi Amal, if you mean a 45 L backpack, yes you will be able to manage if you can pack compactly. But it would be tough. Better to have something around 55-60 L.
The backpack in this video is a Teton Scout 3400. This is the one - www.amazon.in/dp/B000F34ZKS/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=733112647&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B01L1FFJIK&pf_rd_m=A1VBAL9TL5WCBF&pf_rd_r=S18HHP810QNPS7RH89NV

Ideally, it should weight around 6-7 kilos. This is if you're trekking with an organisation and not carrying your own tent/sleeping bag/food. If you are, then your bag will likely be around 12-14 kilos.
Which rucksack is this ??
hi, could you please tell the capacity and measurements of the bag in this video?
It's a 55L backpack. It's a Teton Scout 3400, you'll be able to find more details of it on our website where we have reviewed it - indiahikes.com/teton-scout-3400-backpack/
approximately how much did your bag weigh
Hi Kamna, a well packed trek bag weighs around 7-8 kg
can anyone recommend good hiking/travel bagpack under 2k budget for around 50-60 l VOLUME?
It will tear halfway trek
What trek bag is this? Give the brand details pls and the price
Swathi is using a Teton Scout 3400 in this video. You could look it up. It's an excellent backpack.
Please suggest a good bagpack name?
Find a review of it here - indiahikes.com/teton-scout-3400-backpack/
anyway where is your sleeping bag and tent? :P
If you're going with a trekking company, like India Hikes, they provide those for you.
What about the sleeping bag?
If you're trekking on your own, yes you need a sleeping bag. But if you're trekking with Indiahikes, we will be giving you sleeping bags, which are expedition grade and can handle up to -10 degrees. You'll find a video on how these sleeping bags are made here - ua-cam.com/video/5lV2IXjeQ20/v-deo.html
Which backpack is good to buy
Checkout Indiahikes website for the backpacks the have reviewed & available for sale/rent.
For more options, checkout Decathlon store.
For starters, you may choose a 30L - 40L backpack
Under 1000 kaunsa brand top class product according to you
I guess you meant under 10,000?
If so, checkout Indiahikes website, or Decathlon store.
How to attach sleeeping bag to backpack ??
hello,
is 50L bag is enough for all essential u have packed here, PLUS SLEEPING BAG, TENT, portable alcohol stove AND MY DSLR KIT (CANON 750D, NO TRIPODS)
No
No tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, stove, water filter, or food???
Bag me tent kaha rakhe ?
Tent goes inside the bag close to your back for better weight distribution and place clothes above it.
Helpful note : only carry about 30% of your body weight in your bag.
what is the volume of this bagpack .?
This particular backpack is 55L.
Wow. This was amazing.
Is it necessary to book a agent before going to trekking for first time?
Hi Ankit, it's better to trek with an organisation first, get the hang of it and then go independently. If not that, start trekking locally and camping independently. After that you could go on an easy Himalayan trek and complete it independently.
If you want to start off with an organisation, you'll find all our treks here - indiahikes.com/upcoming-treks/
Swathi, where to keep my electronic gadgets like Power bank, headphones, Memory cards, card readers, otg cable etc etc?
The best thing to do is keep them with your warm layers. All of these things tend to get cold and drain out quickly (especially the power bank and batteries). So wrap them up with your fleece / woollen socks and keep them in your backpack. Is 4.5 Ltr backpack fine for 6 Days Trek!?
Hi Amal, if you mean a 45 L backpack, yes you will be able to manage if you can pack compactly. But it would be tough. Better to have something around 55-60 L.

Where to put the sleeping bag
All the way down, in the lower section.
Many backpacks have separate section at bottom.
Nice and Useful...
And what about sleeping bag?
