- Welcome to Bronze Age Egypt, but in 270BC, not 2,500BC as it appears in game.
Total War Profiled is a series that looks into the historical background behind Total War Factions.
I forgot to give it a Star Ranking, so here it is: 1 Star out of 5 - the lowest yet.
Today, we look into Egypt, in Rome Total War, famously known as Bronze Age Egypt, coined by Legend of Total War in his most viewed video, Top 5 Inaccurate Factions for Total War.

About me saying Pompey. It was actually Ptolemy. I just made a pronunciation error, I meant Ptolemy I. : )
I forgot to give it it's star rating: I give it 1/5 Stars for Historical Accuracy, for obvious reasons. : )
Hope you Enjoyed, Subscribe for more if interested. These should be every Saturday (mostly).
Ptolemaios I Soter.
It raise my eyebrow
The religion isn't accurate either I'm afraid. Hellenic Egypt saw Egyptian mythos basically do the nasty with the greek mythos making the already bonkers Egyptian religion completely indecipherable without an entire catalogue of who replaces who. Half the time they couldn't even agree who was god of what. It's like a cosplay convention.
It's okay since Gnaeus Pompey the Great must have thought highly of Egypt too, to have had run there to avoid being captured by Caesar.
A pronunciation error from Melkor 🤔 I think not. Well at least it's not like saying "Cornith" 😁
I think principally the reason why they made Egypt the Bronze Age version was because Bronze Age Egyptians are the Egyptians everyone knows and recognises - if CA had made Egypt the Ptolemaic Greek faction it actually was in the Iron Age all players who weren’t up to scratch on their Egyptian history would have said ‘why the hell are the Egyptians essentially Macedon with chariots’?
That is certainly also, more recognisable
Actually Ptolemaic state didnt used chariots :D
True, they would not even have Chariots (maybe ceromonial use in military, unsure). It would just be an exact replicate of Macedon, but with a few odd camels. : )
@@MelkorGG There were scythed chariots, though I think those were more of a Seleucid/Galatian thing... and were notoriously unreliable. More than one Hellenic general got his army destroyed because the riders and horses panicked and drove the damn things through their own phalanx/cavalry.
The Kings and Generals channel has some pretty good vids on Macedonian warfare. From what I've seen of battles in that era:
1) Don't use elephants except against enemy massed cavalry
and
2) Just... don't use scythed chariots. Period. It'd be safer to sling dynamite sticks with randomised fuses from mangonels while your soldiers are in melee, and would probably cause less panic.
they actually made the egyptians the same way they are in age of empires I :p
The Nubians look more like Zulus if you ask me
On the ethnic side, while there were multiple ethnic groups in egypt, and 2 confirmed in Nubia (who btw were in conflict, because egypt and nubia were fairly intollerant) they came primarily from Sudan, and the differences in ethnicity came from inmigration from the mediterranean and asyrian territories. So basically both egyptians and nubians were middle eastern, with egypt having a bit o' greek in there... yeah fair to say that is not accurate.
As for weaponry. Nubians used metal armor. 'Nuff said. Seriously, just no. Not even for the bronze age. Much of their armor was bronze actually. Hell those kinds of elongated leather shields, which were mostly used by the zulu indeed, were invented to be paired with JAVELINS and the configuration we typically see was actually horrible for melee. Nubians had bows. Those shields would be ridiculous for them.
Suffice to say, this game really just wanted egypt to look "african" and REALLY didn't think how nearly hard enough.
When all is said and done, it can be quite fun to run around the ancient world at the head of an army of chariots and axe-wielding maniacs. I can imagine Ptolemy poring over some dusty old tomes on ancient Egyptian warfare and thinking...
...'This'll surprise that old fool Antigonus.'
@taniths 1st and only sgt iron on duty "When our bronze weapons start to bend and break in battle, the enemy will think he has won. Then we bring out our horse-powered open-topped tankettes!"
Only for Antigonus shows up with chariots that have scythes on their wheeles, more axes (the axe was fairly common in iran) and bigger elephants. Ptolemy then quits this neo-egyptian nonsense and starts training the local egyptians in hellenic warfare and hiring both Galatian warriors from antolia and kushite archers from the south
egypt isnt even accurate to bronze age egypt, i highly doubt that regular desert axemen units would wear pharoah style head dresses
chances are they would just wear some hat or even nothing, unfortunately the pharaoh style head thingy is mostly thought of as being used by basically everyone at that time
@@2manyeggshells everyone not from the feudal caste was considered the halfgods slaves who had to shave their heads. Regular egytian army likely just looked like a horde of tanned neonazis
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti no not wearing headwear in the dessert Sun is deadly or at least drains water supplies, they got to have some cape if the halfgods wanted some of his slaves to survive until the battle begins.
Osama Obama tanned new nazis ahaha 😂
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti They shaved their heads due to hygiene beliefs, wig usage was based on the heat. And they weren't slaves? It's even debateable if ancient Egypt even used slaves, and we know that the average Egyptian had a variety of rights and government assured access to medical care and sometimes education, wages for state work and the temples were either government ownded directly or outright privately owned by their priests. No slaves in the workforce or religion, and no evidence of slave soldiers at all. Again regular wages and mercenaries. What are you smoking that you dream about neo Nazi Egyptians?
I loved this faction, their bizarreness actually helped make Rome Total War so fun.
That And archers that take out 1/3 if a phalanx in one volley of arrows
Outdated by roughly 2000 years.
Still one of the most powerful factions endgame, if left unchecked.
Depends on faction I guess
I barreled through Egypt as Greece, all chariots have to do is merely touch the end of a phalanx and they die. Seriously, during a charge its like a disappearing act
Who can say if Ptolemaic armies would have looked like what they did in RTW, if Ptolemy I's egyptophillia was left unchecked?
@@meilinchan7314 True, very true. Also, I like the word "egyptophillia".
There is one last thing you forgot to mention. During the years when Rome Total War was created, there was a huge misconception about Egyptian culture. Mainly have to do with their hairstyle, chariots, and the funky Egyptian arm dance. Hell even here in California, the Egyptian Museum (which has little to no Ptolemaic references what so ever) heavily inspired the game to have this army exist.
I thought the "Bangles" inspired this faction 🤔
"Rome is so historically authentic"
>Every faction not being Rome using Greek Phalanx
phalanx is nothing special. every tribe knew that tight infantry formations work. celts used it, germans used it, dacians used it.
Greek hegemony is a bitch
@@sauromatae9728 Celts and Germans did not use Greek Phalanxes lol
@@sauromatae9728 then why did they make it right in barbarian invasion lol. Shield wall is not a Pike Formation. Oh except the germanic phalanxes that took on varus legions in southern germany with their 14 feet pikes and destroyed all 3 of them
The barbarian and Eastern factions would like a word with you.
As silly as it is, I actually enjoy the inaccuracy of Egypt in the game. It’s fun to face the armies of Bronze Age Egypt with Roman and Hellenic armies. I think it makes the campaign more fun, even though it’s inaccurate. Same for the other silly units like the Arcani, Naked Fanatics, Head Hurlers, and Amazons.
I think it would be even more fun if they added dragons. And ghost units. Can you imagine a bunch of ghosts killing a dragon? That'd be freaking awesome!
And then there's spain.
Real world spain was basically literally just rome with less armor and more varied shields. (Note, for reference, the roman generally differenciated Iberian soldiers in 2 groups depending on wether they were skirmishers, which tended to use short shields and were as such literally named "small shields" or full armies, which favored large roman style shields and formations and were called "large shields" by the romans. I'm not kidding here.) In fact the western roman empire had been in control of spain for the longest time and they had both learned from the locals and taught their enemies quite a few things.
In the game they're just gaul but worse in every way except that they get "bull warriors" which have no basis in history and are also OP AS ALL FUCK.
Why? Just why.
2:00 Just... no. The companion wasn't called "Pompei I", but "Ptolemy I (Soter)". It's why the whole thing was called the "Kingdom of Ptolemy" as everyone of his male successors named themselves Ptolemy (and every female Cleopatra).
Yeah yeah, I got my pronunciation wrong. XD
It was like that in the script, but it was too late by the time I noticed. : )
I can't even play Egypt anymore because it pisses me off so much lol
XD
ItsClemenceau Europa Barborum is your friend here. Insanely well researched and accurate factions. Only issue really is some bugs
I plan to get to it, and other mods, eventually : )
I always hated the Egyptians in my playthroughs as they were like Middle Eastern Vietcong who would ravage my much superior armies with bull hockey tactics. Many Scipio lives were lost both taking and holding Egypt.
I had the same problem when replaying RTW, as back in the day I was Julii so never encountered Egypt.
I struggled for a while before I made a tactical withdrawal then reformed my armies with decent Triarii. They took damage but they'd stop the chariots. Egypt gradually fell!
@@SAMagic how you managed to reach Egypt without triggering Marius reforms?
Egypt is not in near east but I get what you mean
They are basically just age of mythology egypt.
I think Egypt is the only faction in the game that spurs full stack armies out of their ass. Great video btw!
Well most of their armies are filled with cheap as shit Nubian Spearmen. Their economy is also stronger early than most factions.
Egypt was a fun faction to play with a strong economy and buffed by the strong late game religous buildings.
Those strong religious are desperately needed for Egypt since Alexandria, Memphis and Thebes always develope overpopulation and civil unrest. But those three cities give Egypt an early advantage over the Seleucids.
Let me guess, you found this video in your recommended 10 years after its upload?
I'm calling it right now, it's gonna happen. I feel like this video is gonna be one of those videos youtube randomly recommends to you for no reason at all down the line

I loved Time Commanders. Such a fun idea for a show, and Lynette (then Aryeh) Nusbacher brought some serious charisma and passion to the project.
And don't forget Mike Loades!
I was taking a drink as you said Pompey and nearly did a spit-take.
I used to watch both Decisive Battles and Time Commanders as a kid fantastic shows for a young history buff.
If you want a historically accurate "Egypt" alongside other Greek factions like Massilia and Epeirus as well as a buffed (single-faction) Rome without losing the feel of the original RTW, I highly suggest the mod "The Hellenic States".
What I like most about the mod is how it gives these factions thorakitai which are reminiscent of scutarii and roman principes due to their fighting style, but without the out-of-place imperial-rome look. After all, phalanxes weren't just naked at the sides, but had non-phalanx units guarding them. It's something that RTW factions like Macedon lack in the original game and it doesn't make much sense tbh.
I think they meant for cavalry units to guard the wings, and in the Alexander expansion there is a non-phalanx spear unit for macedon
Just like 2019 world and Egypt be using sticks as weapons
That's so true, never thought of it that way.
XD Modern Game and Egypt will be represented the way it should have been.
Egypt be using sticks as weapons in 2019? What?
this comment of yours is so stupid, pls look what weapons Egypt had in 2019.
@@MrMturko44 mate i have no idea what my smol brain typed in 2019 XD
Eurydice 6:00 was the name of the wife of Ptolemy I soter. Generally if the Ptolemaic girls wasn't called Cleopatra, they were named Eurydice.
Ptolemy and Cleopatra exist as possible names for the Egyptian faction. The epithets Soter and Philipator also exist but as surnames rather then titles

Decisive Battles! that was one of my favorite shows growing up!
Time Commanders also did the Battle of Raphia, which was Ptolomaic era.
I once made an attempt at creating a list for a more historically accurate roster for Ptolemaic Egypt that makes a balance between Hellenic Greek as the core elite and Native Egyptian troops as auxiliaries to make it slightly more authentic yet still distinct. Not going to be 100% historically accurate and will be nothing in comparison to already existing mods. One thing that made Ptolemaic Egypt stand out amongst the successor Kingdoms is the greater reliance of the Machimoi who were native Egyptians trained in the Hellenic style of fighting as the manpower of Greek settlers dwindled over the centuries. However this not came without headaches for the Ptolemaic dynasty as the increasement of status of native soldiers lent to semi frequent outbreaks of revolts which played a part in the decline of the Ptolemaic dynasty
Infantry:
Egyptian Peasants (replacement of Peasants, very cheap, have bonus in deserts and very poor morale)
Egyptian Levy Spearmen (Replacement of Nubian Spearmen which are now mercenaries. Cheap, Poor morale and combat bonus in desert and vs cavalry)
Egyptian Infantry (Replacing Nile Axemen. Similar in combat ability to Roman Hastati combat bonus in desert)
Egyptain Pikemen (Replacing Nile Spearmen. Comparable to Levy Pikemen but with better morale and combat bonus in desert)
Hellenic Pikemen (Same as those of Macedon and Seleucids)
Hellenic Royal Guard (Replacement of Pharaoh's Guards. A reskin of Seleucid Silver Sheilds)
Theureos Spearmen (New units. Similar to the Roman legionaries able to throw javelins before chargings but main melee weapon is a spear instead of a sword. Combat bonus vs cavalry)
Galatian Guards (Celtic Infantry serving as mercenaries. Same as the Chosen Swordsmen of Dacia, Briton and Gaul but with better discipline and will not charge without orders)
Cavalry:
Milita Cavalry
Egyptian Cavalry (replacement of Desert cavalry and Nubian cavalry combining both units. Their primary attack is with a lance with a powerful charge however they have a secondary attack with an axe that allows them to pierce armoured units. Combat bonus in desert and fast moving. Has same stats as Desert Cavalry)

Egyptian Chariots (Scythe Chariots with combat bonus in desert)
Camel Archers

Kushite Archers (replaces Pharaoh's bowmen with the same ranged damage and range but with reduced armour and melee stats. Is hardy and combat bonus in desert)
Siege Units

One issue is that the scythed chariots were only used by Seleucids, although without chariots the faction might be too similar to Macedonians depending on your perspective (I myself think the camels, Galatians and Kushites are enough to make them unique.) .
I highly doubt the Ptolemaic Empire used chariots since they became obsolete and were no longer used for warfare in Europe and Northern Africa long before 270.bc except for of Cetlic people in Britain who still used them for warfare. Thank you for the link to the Decisive tv show!
Yep, they were obsolete by the time.
But again, fits Bronze Age nicely.
I thought the "Bangles" inspired this faction 🤔 You know "Walk like an Egyptian" , who knows maybe someone at CA was a fan of the song/group.
I like you referred to that Imohtep XD
Imhotep! Imhotep! Imhotep! Imhotep! Imhotep!
Imhotep: *Yells In Ancient Egyptian*
It was clear they chose a bronze-age look for Egypt because it's the most recognised form of ancient Egypt. Only lovers of history will see the glaring inaccuracy. Afteral, the majority of people believe Cleopatra lived during the age of the Pyramids. But in actuality the pyramids were already incredibly ancient monuments during her reign. She lived much closer to our current era than the building of the Pyramids at Giza. So given the fact bronze-age Egypt is more widely accepted, it makes some sense to go for that over hellenistic Egypt. Even if it's historically inaccurate. It's astonishing how history gets melded together as time passes. Imagine a future equivalent of a movie being made on the second world war 2,000 years from now. You'll have Hitler carrying an iPhone, allied soldiers fighting with M16's and the Luftwaffe flying 6th Generation fighters.
Exactly
I've been looking forward to this:P Egypt is a very powerful faction and fun to play, but boy is it just so wrong in all the right ways and borderline cartoony.
chariots smash everything!
I forgot the name of the TV show but I remember watching with my brothers and dad.
To be honest, its what made original RTW so much fun because it made every faction unique. At least we have mods to correct that, but it made Ptolemy a carbon copy of every Diadochi factions which I hate.
They could have gone with the standard Macedonian style shown at 1:54, but added the Nubians and axemen etc to it for a bit of variety. Like the Seleucids had the Macedonian base troops plus Elephants etc.
You know there is in fact a force of Romans troopers in Calvary men that reside in Egypt there are basically 3 days were combined to force her go for brother
I was so thrown off when you said 'age' in 'bronze age egypt' without any accent. I was so prepared for an 'Bronze ehdge Egypt'
2:23 - That's just how he says it ;)
This is why I play Europa Barbarorum in RTW (or specifically, in the Alexander engine).
i appreciate your usage of the rome 2 soundtrack in the background
The Kadesh episode also featured hittite skins that were never seen again.
RafaSheep Some of them are used in the Armenia faction lol
I feel it was done to add variety to the game, like there still being Hoplites in the game, where around this time the Hoplite was largely obsolete and abandoned in Greece, which had been annexed by Macedon. If they wanted to be realistic then we'd have alot more Phalanx factions and the game would be much less diverse and we'd have a far more Hellenistic game than we got.
EDIT: I loved Time Commanders! DEFEAT IMMENENT! DEFEAT IMMENENT!
Hoplite means soldier so it was not obsolete neither abandoned, the formations the hoplites would make is another thing. Also by the way Greek army still names the soldiers as hoplites.
I actually wish there were mods that made the game more stylized and goofy while keeping the spirit of history. Instead there are a bunch of accuracy mods that are competing to make armies look like a bunch of homeless people.
I agree with you. RTW Egypt is one of the coolest Total War factions imo
I think they made it that way for flavor purposes and variety. There are already too many factions with similar units, and this was a way to add more
As they said with Rome 2 in an interview, while they aim for historical accuracy, ultimately a unique Egyptian roster of bronze age Egypt is more fun, and they want the most fun they can make with their game. They made the bronze age decision consciously. I could find a source if you're interested?
That's fine, I think I saw that in my research.
Wish there was a mod out there that made Judea a playable faction
Probably to do with art direction, they probably wanted to show egypt as the majority of people know them by, tombs, pyramids, those headdresses and so on. Its pretty stereotypical.
Hello Melkor, nice video. The historical inaccuracy of the Egyptian faction is glaring and irritated me endlessly at first (several mods pit it right). I have however played as vanilla Egypt and enjoyed the game. I think your reasoning is sound on why this was allowed.
However, the first Pharaoh of Macedonian dominated Egypt was Ptolemy I 'Soter', (hence the Ptolemaic Dynasty, sometimes confusingly known as the Lagid dynasty after his father Lagos). Pompey (sometimes called he Great) , was a Roman General, a rival of Julius Ceasar and was murdered by one of the last Ptolemies when he ran off to Egypt after loosing the civil war.
On the names the Ptolemaic Dynasty's naming conventions were a little unimaginative. All the men were pretty much called Ptolemy. The women had a bit more variation, with Cleopatra, Selene, Cleopatra-Selene , Berenice or Arsinoe. The modernly famous Cleopatra was the VII (!) and her husband/brother was Ptolemy XIII. And yes their family tree was a bit...messy.
So I can understand why the designers might have felt a bit more variety in names would be less confusing even if they should really have gone with Greek names (for example the Ptolemaic Pharaohs often had a nickname to help distinguish them. My favorite is probably Ptolemy XII, 'Auletes' ( The Flute Player). They could have used these.
There was a strict demarcation between the 'Macedonian' (mixed Greek settler ancestors)and native Egyptians with the latter treated very much as a second class group with their own laws (not applying to Macedonians) and not allowed to be soldiers in case they revolted. When they were finally armed in 217BC during a major crisis in the dynasty long ongoing war with the Seleucids (which TW does accurately reflect), they did very well, defeating the Seleucid Phalanx at Raphia. They then promptly revolted , rather proving the point.
There is some evidence (figurines) to suggest axe-wielding Nubian warriors (from the area of modern Sudan) were employed in small numbers. The were small numbers of the (now extinct) north African elephants, generally considered inferior to the Seleucids larger Indian ones (but no chariots). Greek and Judean mercenaries were also used (the latter were employed as border police as well). Auletes reclaimed his (temporarily usurped) throne in true R:TW fashion with the help of some 2,000 Cretan mercenaries paid for by a roman subsidy (perhaps he sold them map information)
The religious system blended traditional Egyptian beliefs with Greek ones often co-identifying Egyptian Gods such as Isis /Aphrodite. Cleopatra VII herself was often depicted as Isis. Serapis ( a Graecised Osiris) was also popular , so you are quite right the religion is probably the most accurate bit of the entire faction !
About the Pompey stuff, that was just a pronunciation issue. By the time I noticed, I had already uploaded.
The rest is interesting, Thanks : )
I always liked Egypt even though they are inacurrate. But i would LOVE a good bronze age mod with campaign for Rome 2. Or maybe a TW Saga after Troy
I went to the school that got to control the Egyptians in Time Commanders. The teacher who was on it was a decent laugh in history lessons, he favoured modern history over this sort of thing though, we only looked at ancient history in Latin/Classics tbh
i prefer the Egyptians being bronze age ones obviously massively out of place historically but like you said another hellenic phalanx based culture would have been very boring and probably wouldn't make Egypt the powerful faction they are. If I wanted a true historically accurate game I wouldn't see 2000 men charge straight into a phalanx on a bridge then rout into said phalanx leaving everyone dead.
I know what show I’m gonna he watching tonight
I did my research on what Paul make Egypt's armies look like and the only thing I can make alleys that is a fact is basically that of my of the classical Macedonian found links but it most recent cases a depending on the region and the Kingdom's function depends on for that depends on what each has to offer surprisingly they have no world events also mention fits
It made sense in its own way. Rome I already had quite a few similar Hellenistic factions with broadly the same unit roster. Egypt is one of the best known ancient civilisations, so why not take advantage of that and have a unique faction that people recognise? Sure the timing is a millennium or so off, but it's a game first and foremost.
I always liked it. It contributed to the charm the earlier titles had. CA has been more historically accurate with their games since Empire, but some would argue the newer games aren't quite as good as the older ones. I'd argue historical authenticity isn't everything.
Great vid I’m new to RTW I just got it on my iPhone good to see people still make vids on it it’s like 20 years old lol but in my opinion I think it’s better then any civ game
This is completely off topic, maybe you can answer this in another video. In one game in MTW 2 playing as Scotland I had a family member who was called Angus of Angus. From what I recall Angus was fairly competent at running a settlement but had no aptitude as a military leader. Still, I digress, the question is was there ever a Scottish nobleman called Angus of Angus or were the developers having a little fun?
I was planning on making a mod for RTW which would be set in the New Kingdom era of Egypt. I think that would be the only time Egypt's roster would be correct in game.
I've just started playing a mod for Rome called Bronze Age: Total War as the Egyptians, and so far it's a hell of a lot of fun. It's amazing just how many good mods the original Rome has.
Legendtotalwar already talked about this so i'm just passing by
He did not go into serious detail. All he did was say they are inaccurate. (His video was a Top 5, mine in a mini-documentary).
This video tells you why, due to the TV shows, and what parts of it are accurate.
The only part in this video that is also in LEgend's is the tern that he coined "Bronze Age Egypt."
I wish Egypt did a better representation of the split between Kemetic/Proto-Coptic cultures and the Greeks in it's unit roster. To me it's really offputting to see Egypt use a mix of bronze age Kemets and Nubians who look more like Ethiopians.

For fun. To have diversity of armies. Otherwise there would have been a bunch of indistinguishable Greek factions. They said so at the time, btw.
Likely it was done for aesthetic and not really for accuracy, as if they stuck with historic accuracy, it would just be yet another Greek faction and likely felt people would want to play "Egypt" and not "Yet another Greek faction." Plus most people associate Egypt to its Bronze Age version. Its fixed in the second game though.
I just wanna play Bronze Age Egypt. If I wanted historical accuracy and realism I would play Rome 2.
Could someone link me that Ptolemaic Empire mod?
The second game did a lot better in this regard. Otherwise, I think they also made Egypt like this because they were marketing to a broader mainstream audience who would get confused if the Egyptians were too much like the greeks as well as possibly annoyed if there were too many greek-style factions.
People generally knew less of ancient and medieval history back then than they do now. Video games and the internet have helped popularize ancient history and also help regular people learn more about it.

Yea that's a naive thing about the TW creators. They WANT to represent the ancient civilizations of the Bronze Age, but none of their games are actually set in the Bronze age.
If they truly wanted to represent the Egypt everyone knows and love they need to create a Mesopotamia Total War set around 1500 BC. This game wouldn't have any mounted cavalry though since at this time period everyone used chariots (because horses were too small to be mounted at the time.)
They could do a bronze age total war with indoeuropean invasions bringing horses.
@@hellenicbass1344 Yea, in a hypothetical Bronze Age Total War it would be the Hittite Empire that introduces cavalry warfare to Mesopotamia (Hittites being one of the first Indo-European nations of that time)

@@hellenicbass1344 And perhaps the late-game of the grand campaign would feature the Bronze Age Collapse, where marauding armies with iron weaponry and 'sea peoples' and migrating tribes like Chaldeans spawn across the map, with famine outbreaks, and your faction needs to protect itself against the doom-stacks!
@@fartz3808 I would love to play the Trojan War while facing a Dorian invasion from the north in the same time the hittites and my other allies like Egypt are on the brink of collapse by the sea peoples leaving me essentially alone and weak.
I have to say Khumhotep did existed in history and not for one but at least four named this name. They were nomarchs, local rulers before Egyptian Middle Kingdom
Yep, but what I said was, there was no way of knowing which one the game based him on.
Ptolemy is THICC.
*The Battle of Megiddo is the first recorded battle in history. Not the Battle of Kadesh.
I depends on how we define "recorded"
Kadesh has way more recordings, including in-depth stuff about the battle. I would say Megiddo is more like: the first mentioned battle we have found, not recorded.
If they'd had Greek mercs and some small elephants I'd actually not have minded them, Cleopatra definitely portrayed herself visually as more Egyptian than Greek.
That is a misconcept of Cleopatra. She did not wear bronze age pharaoh clothes.

Ever since i discovered the nubians i just thought how did the egyptians get a unit from south africa form the zulu tribe that is from the age of colonization as i had just watched zulu the movie.
I wonder how this faction will look in the remastered version. Will Egypt still be bronze age and suck ass or be ptolemaic and not be totally useless? Hope they go for option two!
Still as inaccurate as in the original game
Where can i find the mod with the Ptolemaic empire?
When sicily? or russia?
If you are talking about Medieval 2 I dont think Russia is so far fetched. They should just have called the faction Novgorod instead or The Rus like the Turks as a culture or people rather than the nation of Russia.
Russia is one I want to do someday, should hopefully happen within the next few weeks.
Didn’t the normans invade sicily though? Honestly norman knights are the only units i remember from sicilys roster so cant speak to the rest of them.
@@thinkwithurdipstick yeah it was norman kingdom of sicily
@@thinkwithurdipstick Thats correct. The civilizations/factions of Medieval 2 TW are more like a people or culture which have endured and evolved trough the medieval ages. Like the Turks starting out as Seljuks and are more Ottoman in late game, or Egypt having a little bit of both the saracens, mameluks and fatamid caliphate whom all had Egypt and the fertile lands of the nile as their base of operations. which is pretty cool.
i think the skirmishers of egypt are histrionically accurate ,, there was no equipment giving by the state ,,,,so if you are broke , sticks it is
the nubian bro are also ok
chariots are like gladiators, a lot less likely they didnt use them but with us "players" in charge they could have (even if it would be quite dumb , but since when did anyone complain about Caligula stabbing the water)
but i agree the rest is total BS , in fact i modded the mercenary hoplites to be a recruitable unit for egypt
What is the music at the end?
Can you please do a video about how to install mods for medieval 2 total war please? 👍👍🤘
Ive heard that the first book ever written was about mathematics, so if thats true, the Heir makes sense.
Actually the depiction of Egyptian mythology isn't even accurate for RTW.
By the time of the Ptolemaic Era, the main chief of the gods wasn't exactly Osiris, it was Serapis.
Also, it isn't really likely that Set would have been seen as a god of law and order -- if anything he was more of a malevolent force meant to be invoked against one's enemies.
