I think Total War: Alexander could have been really special and loved by the community, but CA kind of half-assed it. Unlike some of the other spin-off games, which are excellent. The game just doesn’t have much replay value.

@Niek Warnas maybe not. The Zuiderzee was formed later i believe, when the land eroded due to farming and drainage, got below sea level, then with a storm it all drowned. During the Roman era there were not a lot of farmers above the Limes.
The western part of the Netherlands used to be above sea level; in Late Antiquity, Zeeland flooded as a result of draining the swamps, which made the modern islands be separated from the mainland, and only from the 11th century onwards, the draining of the swamps of Holland and Utrecht made those areas sink below sea level.
In those days there were not enough people, and not crafted enough, to build and maintain a system to keep the land dry when below sea level. Holding the sea at bay, getting rid of rain and river water, its quite an effort. Only some 500 years ago did they start reclaiming land that was preciously flooded.
the tree tops we see east of Themiskyra are the trees from another climate, or rather the dense forest of more southern climate regions, that are not used on the campaign map.... I just checked the climate map file to be sure - there is smudge of the climate colour there that start around Tribus Sakae reaching south-west to the black sea and further west on its northern shores up to the north of the carpathians, spanning a terrain which has no dense forest, therefore not showing them anywhere else (though I have to check further to be sure) they are used in a lot of mods, if I recall correctly
At 5:39 you can see the weird trees again. I guess they may have modelled them to have variety in trees, but they didn't like them (maybe because they look like tropical trees) and so they used them only in a barely visible spot. (I have never seen them before this vid).

I think it makes sense that Alexander cannot go to India, because his army mutinied at the Indus, so he was forced to return to Babylon, so it actually makes sense.
I think there should be a dilema where you get a choice of either accepting the complaints of your army or ignore them to continue going into India, but half of your main army will rebel
Surely the most annoying inaccuracy was Brian Blessed in the introduction when talking about the history of the Greek-Persian conflicts...he locates the battle of Salamis on Cyprus instead of the waters between the peloponnese and attica (I. E. Off the coast of Greece)
It depends which one the battle of salamis in the 480 or the one in 450 the one in 480 was fought in the waters around the Island of salamis while the other was a joint land sea battle in the vicinity of the city of salamis in Cyprus
Climate then was differant too. Temperature was much higher than now. Sea level was higher, for example caspian sea was connected to the black sea. In Alexander times small ships cound sail from one to another! All geography was slightly differant and it's really hard to make historically accurate map in the game.
I am not sure if that is true. If anything the climate had been more humid in those areas of Alexandar Total war. Hell if you go back 8000 years ago, Sahara wasn't even a dessert.
Why does everyone complain about Alexander’s map? I’m pretty sure by looking at it it’s based off of the maps of Homer and how the Greeks viewed the world.
I wonder why the developers made Africa & Arabia so empty in extremities. In the far corners of the map in Africa & Arabia which are respectively Numidian & Parthian held lands usually. If you don’t put settlements all the way out in those far corners then there’s really no reason for a player to send his armies way out there. It would be interesting to have important battles way out in the deserts of the Sahara or the deserts or Arabia. Even the the far reaches of Russia in the game are separated by many miles of empty Sythian Forests & the Amazons to the north. They did good putting the parthians at the top right corner & the Briton’s in the extremities I’d Scotland.
perhaps devs didn't want us to focus on Hellas and since there are much less settlements than it was in original campaign, they might as well shrink territory for gameplay purposes. it would take a lot of time for units to reach Byzantium from Sparta for example. but yeah, it's kinda painful to watch if you know actual geography, i mean, some places look like they were made by some amateur modder :D
I feel like the campaign map for many of the games except shogun, Rome 2-Attila, and maybe one more we’re always awful in terms of historical accuracy.
