    I worked at a mall Starbucks across from Sephora. I've done makeup my entire life not only for myself but for others too. I applied for Sephora and they not only threw my application out on spot, I couldn't even introduce myself to the manager. 6 months past and the manager came to get coffee one day and she said "have you ever thought of applying at Sephora? Your eye makeup is prettier than half of my girls" I politely told her the story and declined her offer.

      That's awesome for you. Working there would have been a mistake, and it's awesome you got the chance to *decline them back.* lol!
      On a side note, was it an employee or a manager that threw out your application? It's illegal to deny someone the chance to apply, and I don't believe it's legal for them not to submit it to the appropriate hiring authority. Something to keep in mind. :)

    • @butlera840
      @butlera840 7 років тому +121

      It was someone that wasn't a manager and who worked on the floor. They were basically like your hours won't work for us sorry. I was flexible, if they had interviewed me they would have known.

    • @SLH_2007
      @SLH_2007 7 років тому +162

      No matter who it is, denying someone the opportunity to submit an application is (for our state anyway) illegal. Now, if they take it, give it to the hiring authority, and they toss it in the bin, that's fine. But if they either deny you that chance or throw it away before turning it in, that is something your state's workforce commission would want to hear about. It's definitely a liability for them if their employees are doing that.
      Good luck elsewhere though!

    I have to tell you about my experience in Sephora. I am an older woman who is in a wheelchair. I went into a Sephora for the first time and was pretty excited because I had never been in the store. I was well dressed had makeup on and had purple streaks in my gray hair (which I got complaiments on all the time.) I went in to find something specific and having never been in there needed help. I had people who worked there walk around me to avoid me, turn around and walk away when they saw me. I have never been treated so rudely anywhere. I wrote an email to the company. Got an email back saying they would speak with the manager and someone would get back with me. Couple of days went by I heard nothing. So I sent another email got another email back saying about the same thing but they would have the manager contact me. Emails went back and forth for a month. I never did hear from the manager and I finally I gave up. I will never go back into a Sephora store. The really sad thing is I was coming out of a deep depression and makeup is the one thing that helped. My youngest daughter got me back into using makeup and to be treated that way really hurt. I wont be involved with a company that treats customers that way.

The owner personally came to speak about business to the group. They try to make sure their cult victims make lots of money...because they charge them lots and lots of money for absolutely everything. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So I saw and heard him speak in person.

    As an almost 40 year old who has worked many different jobs, the reason these women are being dicks is because they're jealous. It sucks, and I hate it. I work with a woman who is a total knockout, and most of the people we work with are rude to her because of it. She's super sweet, works her ass off, and is an all around amazing human, but you can see the jealousy from our other coworkers. It would be so amazing if we as women could be kinder to each other. Glad that you're doing better now.

    This is a very good example of why, when you have a positive experience at a store, you should *WRITE TO THE COMPANY AND TELL THEM IMMEDIATELY*. Specifically tell them the name of the person and what they did. Go to the company's website and write the message DIRECTLY TO THE COMPANY - *DO NOT* give the message to anyone in the store itself, because it may magically end up in the garbage can before anyone sees it. Do NOT call the store and tell them (you can do that, too, but a phone call to the store should never replace writing to the company directly). This gives good employees the ammunition to fight back when someone treats them unfairly (like "Katie"), and it's impossible for anyone they work with to intercept the message and make sure it's never heard or seen. People only think to do this when something goes wrong… You should be doing it when something goes RIGHT, too.

    • @kumada84
      @kumada84 8 років тому +15

      As for the raise issue: Any time you think you're entitled to a raise, you need to make sure you're told (preferably in writing) that you're going to be getting a one and _exactly_ when the raise will begin, so everyone is clear (and, more importantly, so they know YOU know). If you're being expected to do a job that entitles you to a raise and you have already discussed this with your employer and a date has been set, you have every right to NOT DO THE WORK until you're being paid for it. Your employer cannot expect you to donate your time and expertise.
      Unfortunately, unless you either have written proof that you were offered a raise or there's something in your contract that specifies that you're to receive one, there's really nothing you can do after the fact. It can be argued that your continuing to work without receiving the raise is equivalent to your agreeing not to get it.
      BTW, always remember: People only care about themselves.

      That and the fact that this world is so negative and these small acts of affirmation are what keep people going. We all need to go out of our way to encourage others and express our appreciation for their good qualities and service. As an ex-retail worker, (who was publicly shamed, bullied and degraded by my assistant manager) I always try to build up any positive employees I encounter as a customer. It's not hard to do and it means so much. As a customer, assume/pretend that your encouraging words are the only positive feedback an employee will receive on the job. Make it your mission to give that gift to other workers.

      So, I had a sort of similar story about sephora giving me something, and taking it back. They offered me a permanent position. When I came into fill out paperwork I brought my passport because I had just moved and misplaced my social security card. The manager that hired me asked why I didn't bring my social security card and said to come back the next day with it. I told her I had always brought passports and that it is proof of both residency and shows i can legally work in the US. She said she hadn't heard of it and got really defensive. The next day before I returned she called and said she could no longer offer my the permanent position because she had to start hiring seasonal positions. So she offered me that position with a pay decrease. I was furious because I no longer had a stable job and I had already quit my other job. I sent an email to corporate. Sephora corporate didn't respond but instead forwarded it to her. I don't know what else they sent to her but she apologized. And by apologize her words were, "I'm sorry you didn't bring your social security card." Despite how hard I worked, and how well I knew the products she treated me terribly my whole time there. Needless to say they didn't hire me after the season. So talking to corporate doesn't always work....

    I've been in retail since 16. Started out at the bottom and now work for Gucci. Retail truly is one of the most difficult jobs. Management isn't hired based on education, but sales ability. Thusly, many managers are promoted for their shark-like tactics, instead of leadership skills. With poor leadership, everything else evolves into a nightmare.
    Basically, everything wrong with retail can be summed up with capitalism(working on holidays, poor hours, competition, just to make the company more money), young employees(immaturity), overall rudeness of the public, and a lack of dedicated employees who just see retail as a stepping stone.
    Also, cosmetics tend to attract certain types of not so pleasant people. I never knew such awful human beings existed until I worked in cosmetics. Not to be sexist, but workplace politics are entirely different when working with all women. The things I've seen women do to one another in a "professional" setting is truly shocking.

      I almost always only buy stuff from Sephora online, but there has been a couple times I ran out of brow pencil or one time I shattered my foundation bottle in my make up bag, and was desperate and needed to run into the one at my mall, and I went in with zero makeup, and a messy bun, and a sweatshirt, and I swear the second I walked in the employees looked at me like I was going to steal and followed me around with a glare on their face. The best part was when I went up to pay at the register they saw I was Rouge status, then the cashier was super friendly to me lol. I’ve NEVER been treated like that at ulta. I actually love going inside a brick and motor ulta because the store is way more inviting and fun to look around in. I try to shop at ulta instead of Sephora whenever I can.

    Never allow even one incident or rude comment from a boss or another coworker. If you do, it'll continue until You quit or You get fired. Sephora inside JcPenney’s are TERRIBLE. When I️ worked there, I️ asked my management for more training because I️ didn’t feel prepared enough to do mini makeovers. And my assistant manager literally said to me “well you’ll just have to self-learn” and “you need to work a little faster on mini makeovers or else you won’t have this position after holiday”
    Working there was the most defeating, degrading environment I️ have ever been in.
    Looking back, I️ should have filed a complaint and got my beauty advisor and my SEC fired for how they treated me (and STILL treat their employees).
    It’s so sad because I️ loved working for the sephora company, but the way I️ was treated was NOT okay.
    Sorry you had a crappy experience, sephora needs to get it together!!!

I went into one the other day and I was the only customer in there and they both were standing at the counter and stared at me when I walked in and didn’t say a word to me while I was in there. I got so uncomfortable that I left!! They would stare at me and then talk with papers in front of there face. I haven’t went back since!

    It's funny watching this b/c I used to be an Educator at Sephora and yet I COMPLETELY understand what you went through as I dealt with so many petty women in that company. What bothers me the most is that this is a job aka you're at work, yet so many women decide to bring petty drama to the work place, which can make work unbearable. This has led me to feel I work better with men, which shouldn't be true. Anyway, clearly you're doing way better here than there! Good luck boo!

    I would contact the corporate office about not getting paid all that time after you were certified. You should be able to get the back pay for all that time. And also, while you're at it, let them know about that assistant manager and how she put up the bad review about "katie" for all to see and anything you can. Be professional about it, but definitely contact them and dont let up until you get results! Good luck!

    • @PinkPoodleCrafts
      @PinkPoodleCrafts 8 років тому +28

      I get that you're young and if I can teach you one thing, being 43 myself.. its to never back down from what you know is right... if something isnt right at anyplace you work, with a manager, assistant manager or etc, go above them if you cant get results from dealing with them directly. If you are a good employee with good work ethics (getting to your job on time, only taking the allowed breaks, not calling out all the time, etc) then go above them and talk to THEIR manager. You should never let anyone belittle you or make you to feel like your work environment is hostile or ever have a manager treat you like "they dont like you". THAT is unprofessional and they need to be reported. Obviously make sure its something worth fighting for and of course make sure you first try and confront the person you have the problem with before you go above them. So if you go to the person and talk to them about how you're being treated and that does nothing, then yeah, its time to go above them. But your managers are supposed to support their employees and not treat them like shit. It sounds like she was far to young and had too much of an ego to work at that job and in that position. Keep your head up and hey... start working on a plan to open your own shop or get into professional makeup artistry and work as a independent contractor. I always encourage young smart women to move towards doing something of their own. You're only going to get so far working for others and get paid just to help THEM (the company) make more money, screw that... start learning now how to get educated to make your own mark in life... its a lot easier than you think to do your own thing. Dont get stuck working for other people your whole life... I promise you will thank me later (maybe not for real but in your head lol) Sorry for the long rant! Good luck!

    If you love makeup and would like a job in makeup, then I would definitely tell you to continue looking into a job at Sephora. You get a lot of valuable work experience.. Like I said, this was just MY awful experience and my only issue with Sephora (and why I titled this video "why I quit Sephora") is that it has the tendency to create, for lack of a better word, catty work environments. I put this video out there for people to recognize these catty and unprofessional work environments and challenge themselves to take a look at their own work situations and deem whether or not they are being treated fairly! I was obviously not treated fairly, so that's why I quit! And for those of you asking, I did go to higher authority with all these situations, don't worry :)

    • @DeathValleyDebbie
      @DeathValleyDebbie 8 років тому +14

      It sounds like what is deemed a "hostile work environment" and is actually illegal. I had jobs like you describe with the "catty" work experience when I was your age. Not makeup related either... I just think some people are very intimidated by younger, successful, good looking, and people that just do their job well. It's a reflection of their own self hate. I say next time you have a situation like this go straight to HR. Sephora, especially in JC Penny's is a bureaucratic system (aka nightmare), but the great thing is you have strict rules that you can use against them. Har is your friend. Chalk it up to lesson learned, but you could still contact headquarters about your bad experience and find out if you are owed that back pay. Or you can decide to let it go. Off to better jobs!

      I've had a bad experience working at a retail chain store and quitting after ONE WEEK at this store after working for the SAME CHAIN (different location) very happily and respected/appreciated for over 2 years... It definitely can vary by store based on management and other employees, also sometimes even different customer bases in different areas can affect your experience. I'm so sorry you had to go through this, but I'm so proud to see at your young age you're still able to see the value of the company as a whole. I never harbored resentment toward the parent company of the store I had a bad manager experience at, but I didn't EVER shop at that particular location again. So glad you got out of this negative experience and shared this. Possibly consider writing a review of that particular location on glassdoor.com - I've heard many friends saying they wish they'd listened to the negative reviews read there before taking positions because similar things happened to them after they took jobs!! If enough former employees complain, the company may see a pattern and a trend in turnover, and fix the management situation!! Way to be part of the solution!!

      I think ppl who hate ppl for no reason are proof that demons exist. they must be possessed. who knows what things they do for money outside of working with you. they might have a back up job like prostitution or stripping or even black magic just to ask demons or the wrong ppl for money. there are so many ppl I've met who are like that. I know what you mean.even at church. there are kids who think they're Christians just bcz they're born and raised christian but didn't say the Lord's prayer. not always but a lot of times those are the ones who are mean. I've been around enough of them long enough to know. I've noticed the pattern. those ppl just need to be simply prayed for. I also think you should go up with a simple gesture of simpothy for the girls who didn't like you and I think all they need is someone to have some compassion for them. they're probably just hurting or something or struggling with their rent.

I feel for the employees who have to endure the bullying or hostile work environment. You have actually created the prelude video for teaching people about what they deserve (based on.....) what they should expect (based on...), and
      what/when they should ask for an increase (of any sorts). Or in other words, "What are your policies regarding .......? Albeit it your experience with some emplyees was not pleasant, you did receive a certification that makes you more employable, in the industry. The experience with individual clients is priceless. The exposure to the Shenanigans will prove invaluable as well. Thanks for the post. I hope to see video of feedback from future job interviews. First the posting of the complaint is unacceptable and could be considered hostile work environment! Should have called corporate employee relations. Also should have called about the pay raise depending on what the company policy says completely unacceptable behavior out of management. If policy states they are to change your pay after certification you should have recieved at next pay period or at least given you back pay of difference.

I'm not saying I'm perfect but I know my value and my beauty and that of my gorgeous bi-racial children and the effed up ignorant things I've heard other moms say(I also have really gorgeous hubby who sounds like Antonio Banderas when he speaks perfect english) seriously, these are grown women who instead of worrying about my stunderful(stunning/wonderful) children, marriage and family, SHOULD be setting an example for their kids and making their men proud... but they just wanna keep testing my barriers... handcuffs and assault charges are in my future I swear....not really, but you know what I mean!?!?

      109367 I'm sure your "pretty" that's just the word I used to describe her. I think some times it also has a lot to do with the way children are raised. If a mother talks bad/negative about another woman and her daughter hears these things "🐵 see 🐵 do" it's terrible woman in 2018 still feel the need to compete with one another. I'm raising mine to be completely different and hopefully she will meet girls as she gets older who have the same values as her and will build each other up to be amazing women in tje future 😘

    As the sister and mother of 2 gorgeous women, I can tell you that the people who mistreated you at Sephora were jealous of you. Beautiful women are discriminated against in our society by other women who are not confident in their own bodies. This was, unfortunately, a good experience for you because you will now be aware of how the world can treat you simply because of your beauty.
    Keep your confidence and realize that these type of people are very weak and have no confidence in their own lives. Keep your awesome personality and don't allow these people to treat you this way, ever! When you come into contact with these idiots, remember that they are weak and this wil help you learn how to make them want to be your friend, not your enemy.

Most people cannot see pass the surface and its easy to say: "oh, just ignore them", its hard to ignore the hate when you feel the vibe so strongly. To anyone making these comments that she sounds like an entitled person. Millenial Blah blah. Lay off she is not pissed about not getting her gratis. She is pissed about how her managers throwing people under the boss. The reason I watched this video, is because today I went to a sephora, and this cash register lady was so nice and amazing, her manager comes over and basically bitches at her for handing me my cash and then my receipt, and not together. While the register lady was talking to me and that lady would literally roll her eyes the entire time.

      I love her, but have you seen her other job videos? Where she quit several after months , and in each one, multiple co workers didn’t like her? And her illness video where she admitted to being entitled and selfish and didn’t care about her friends ? So, as much as it’s nice to defend her, it’s not really valid. I love her so much, but I’ve watched these videos back to back. And all these personal ones, show the same thing. I’m sorry, but if multiple people don’t like you “for no reason” , then it’s probably YOU and not them.. also, it was a little disappointing to hear her rant about saying she’s entitled to those free products and how they HAVE to give them to her since one person said it in the interview. No honey, you’re not owed anything that isn’t in a contract

    This reminded me of my experience at a previous place that I had worked at. A few years ago an *unspecified restaurant* was opening up in the town where I lived. I applied and was hired on the spot. The woman who hired me was the manager for that location but she had actually just been promoted to manager so it was new to her. Anyways, I was hired to be a server. We had a week until opening day and so we went in for training pretty much every day that week. A couple days in she had realized that she hired too many servers and so she made me one of the dishwashers. This was fine with me because I really liked the place and the people and I was just happy to be there. Note: She was a newly head manager but she also had two supervisors who worked under her (this is important). I had been working there for a week or two and we were so so busy. Most of the time there was only one person who was doing the dishes. The dishwasher was not only supposed to spray the plates, cups, pans and dishes but we were also supposed to dry them off and run them over to the cook line and put them on the shelves that were at the feet of the cooks in front of them. This was absolutely insane. For every rack of dishes that I put into the washer, there were literally two more racks waiting. I had eventually requested that two dishwashers be assigned per shift until the craziness of our location opening died down (a reasonable request). But the store manager denied this and so all of us dishwashers suffered for another 2 weeks or so. Eventually business slowed down to a normal pace. I would often work the night shift as the dishwasher and get done around 6am. This one particular night that I was working, it was 3am and we had no customers. We hadn't had customers in like an hour and a half. Since I was getting paid, I figured that I should make myself useful and so I asked the supervisor on duty what she would like me to work on. She said that it would be very helpful to wrap the silverware in the napkins so that it would be ready for morning. So I sat down and was working on that. About 30 minutes later the store manager came in. It took me completely off guard when she approached me and started getting verbally aggressive. She was upset that I wasn't doing the dishes (there weren't any dishes to clean AT ALL). I told her that the supervisor had assigned me to do the silverware since it still needed done. She went over and asked the supervisor and he told her the same thing. She was in a bad mood for some reason and approached me again anyway and said to me: "Look. I am the manager. I am above the supervisors. If it's not busy here and you need something to work on then call me." I was very confused at this request because I definitely wasn't going to call my manager at 3am while she is sleeping. Especially when a supervisor is there. It was insane. But I said okay anyway. A few days later it was around 11pm and we were completely packed. I don't know if we had buses or what but we had people waiting to be sat. It was busier than it had ever been. I asked the supervisor for help with the dishes because it would take at least 2 people to get these dishes done at the speed that they were needed. She told me to call the manager and ask because that is what the manager wanted. So I called the manager and told her that I needed extra help and she got mad because I called her while she was at home (???) and hung up on me. When the new schedules came out I noticed that I was not scheduled for that week- at all. I called in and asked why and one of the supervisors answered. He told me that it was just a scheduling error and to go in right away and they would get it sorted out. So I went in and both supervisors were there waiting for me (the manager wasn't there that day). Right away I knew something was off based on their behavior and the previous things that had happened there. So I decided to turn on my voice recorder in my phone. They sat me down and told me that I had actually been fired. I was shocked and had no idea why. They told me that it was very unprofessional for me to call the manager when she wasn't working instead of asking them (Lets recap: The manager told me to call her, the supervisor told me to call her). I told them that I wanted to come in and speak with the manager herself because I was very confused but they told me that she didn't want to speak with me. I left and decided to call her (I also recorded this conversation). She said that I was fired but actually wouldn't state why. I felt this was unjust and so I contacted corporate and I told them about it. They contacted me soon after and let me know that they had spoken with her. They said that the manager told them that she never fired me. The manager told them that I stopped showing up for my shifts (clearly a lie). I told them that I had the audio from me being fired and from her stating it herself and they asked me to send it to them and so I did. After this they had contacted me back and wanted to hold a meeting between me and the store manager. They apologized for her behavior and wanted to hire me back. I told them that unless they got a new general manager that I wasn't going to return. Then they went on to say that she was a good gm etc etc and that they wouldn't be replacing her but that they really wanted me to work for them again and wanted to figure out a way for me and her to work together (???). Needless to say - I will never EVER enter another *unspecified restaurant* again.
    I know this was a long story but all stories are. If you read it until the end then thank you very much for caring about my rant. It feels good to let it all out and know that someone was listening (reading in this case).

    It's really heartbreaking to hear how employers still don't understand the value of treating their employees correctly and implementing positive work environments for them. Starbucks is still considered retail and their employees rarely complain because they are paid well, have greta benefits offered and its a positive work environment. I really wish all employment could step their game up especially sephora. Sephora truly is an amazing retailer but the way I have seen them treat their employees horribly shows by their work ethic most of the time and makes it and unpleasant shopping experience for the customer, I've seen it and experienced it myself even when getting my make up done. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

      I had a manger (worked at a coffee shop) literally cause a dozen long time employees to quit in the span of a year just for being a piece of shit human being.
      There was one girl who was a senior in high school who said she wanted to work only on the weekend because she had a lot of homework and needed to invest more time in school. The manager was like "well I'll see what I can do but we need someone to work it." (we had 25-30 employees and only 2 people needed to work the night shift) and then in what i can only assume is out of spite started scheduling her 4pm-11pm every weeknight and then was sooo surprised when this girl quit and got another job that had a more accommodating schedule.
      Told another girl who booked off vacation time months in advance (and was approved by another manager) that she'd have to cancel her holidays because the schedule would be too hard to write if she wasn't working (again 25-30 employees she just couldn't be arsed to rearrange a couple people) and again was so surprised that she was like "ok well then I quit."

      Ild love to know as well! Im going to fb and see where she might live and thatll be enuff info to know which Sephora. I was a consultant for Estee Lauder and am an aestition/makeup artist and I would NEVER have tolerated that from any of my stores. I agree with you all and im pretty sure you are younger than I, but trust and believe women are the WORST to other women for no reason other than jealousy and insecurities! I used to think it was a young woman's cross to bear until we all become adults.....WRONG!! Sadly, the ONLY difference between this behavior when we are younger is it actually gets worse! Why? Because now they know better how to REALLY punch the buttons faster and more cruel! I will never understand why women treat each others so disrespectful, abusive and hurtful.....Im embarrassed for these kind of girls because clearly their insecurities give them permission to put other down to feel better about themselves. Sorry so long but being older, I have countless stories I experienced and its just NOT OK? Whatever happen to lending a hand to help and lift up one another rather than pushing and stepping on others? I dont know if Kiki will see this but in case no one said this to you...im sorry for how you were treated and you Def did not deserve what treatment you received. One thing is for sure, you may have lost that job but now you know what to watch out for plus, in retrospect I know in time you will see it was probably for the best! Nothing worse than a bully is a bully who smile to your face all the while devising ways to get at you! Clearly, nice to your face or not, this would have never gotten better! So hold her beautiful self up and go grab whatever makes you happy in a place where respect is given to all the employees! Ild hire you in a heartbeat and would be proud to have you be a representative that reflects positivity in my business! 💝

    I hate saying this but work environments where there are a lot of girls of the same younger age tend to be toxic. I used to work for a financial company and my manager would only hire females in their early-mid 20's. She did this because young girls are vulnerable and she wanted to manipulate us into competing with each other and backstabbing each other. I rose above it but the other girls on my team would harass me, call me ugly, say I'll never have a boyfriend, make me do their work and then tell my manager I was lazy and did nothing all day. It was the most toxic environment ever and it was supposed to be a professional one. I'm a nanny now because I hate working with other people and dealing with drama. I go to work to work and if you don't like me, I at least expect you to be professional towards me.

      You're NOT sexist, just very honest, I've experienced identical situation in hospitals and healthcare, all female staff, and the female management were so manipulative and if they saw some employees were getting along (working well as a team), suddenly they'd be yanked to different locations, as management somehow felt threatened. And they did it, because THEY COULD.

    +Kiki Chanel I'm so sorry you had to work in such a hostile environment. I've been in two Sephora's in my entire life, and I'm forty. Both experiences were horrible! The staff was inconsiderate, rude, and lazy. The first Sephora I tried was a stand alone store. I knew exactly what I wanted, and when I went to grab it there was a young woman(early twenties) looking at the Urban Decay foundation. She was completely lost. She said she'd asked for help, but has been waiting more than 20 minutes. We were the only two customers in the store! I use the same foundation, and explained the color system, if it has a .5 after the decimal point it's cool toned, if it's a .0 it's for warmer skin tones. Anyway, I showed her how to color match on neck, decided on a color, and went to check out. I was pissed. I told the girls at the register how unprofessional, immature, and rude they were. They did not apologize! They told me that I'm not an employee, so I shouldn't be helping customers!pt.1

    • @willarosesoaps6090
      @willarosesoaps6090 8 років тому +6

      Pt.2 I was aghast! I'm a physician, so I deal with difficult people every day, but this was inexcusable behavior! I dressed her down quickly, but efficiently. She was crying?! Apparently, they aren't used to people who won't tolerate such distain towards others. I asked for the number of an offsite supervisor. I didn't think it would result in any changes, but she did return my call. Surprisingly, this ring leader was terminated. The other Sephora I visited was in a JC Penny. It was not as horrendous as the other store, but again, I was not greeted, or communicated with, in any way. I left, and have never, and will never return. I shop at my local ULTA, which I love. I'm in there so much they know my name, phone number, and the items I stock up on every 3-4 months. Their rewards program is amazing. I'm a platinum member, so I earn 3x the points on any purchase, as apposed to 1 point, for a standard member. They also offer platinum members 5x the points on certain products...

    • @willarosesoaps6090
      @willarosesoaps6090 8 років тому +7

      +WillaRose Soaps pt3 on all products. Platinum rewards NEVER expire, and you can earn points on anything, as well as spend them on anything, except services. Last Christmas I had over $1000 in free money. It's worth it. I check my "special benefits" everyday. A week ago I stocked up on Philosophy products, because it was BOGO 50% off, and 5x platinum points. I earned over 2000 points, or $200, in that trip alone. September is going to be an amazing month for sales, and earning points. If you haven't signed up, do it. Sephora just isn't worth it.
      Sincerely,
      Heather

      WillaRose Soaps it's so interesting, I actually would have relished being ignored. I know exactly what I want when it comes to makeup and really hate to be asked if I need help. But also, I disdain being asked like 10 times in 10 mins if I need help which happens to me and makes me angry. My local ulta is notorious for this. I am asked at least 10 times in 30 mins if I need help and it's irksome to no end.

City HOVERED OVER MY 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, my little girl who is actually more tomboy in no way shape or FORM dishonest and has babies and morals.... she picked up a small sephora brand eyeshadow to just simply LOOK AT. The woman reached over her and grabbed it instantly and told my daughter she'll hold it for her behind the counter. I was just on the next aisle. I let them know! I asked about 5 products because I DO have the accurate knowledge of ingredients, skin types, specific uses, allergens as well as what's not good! NEITHER OF THESE TWO WOMAN COULD SAY A DAMN THING EXCEPT, "OH YA, I LIKE THAT ONE IT WORKS REALLY WELL." I will be back to make sure it goes higher up! I'm not a snob. Another big thing is the comment made to you during makeover. That's so rude and even more very unprofessional. If she doubted your skill then she should have done as we are trained and coached you to improve your skills. (Side note - your makeup skills look like they are just fine!)

    Same things happened to me. I got hired as a seasonal hire for xmas and we were supposed to be seasonal for six months which meant I was on probation (they watch you / you're only as good as your last day) for three months. Then I was kept on as part time and again, I was on probation another 3 or 6 months...so here I am working 1 year and it doesn't count for shit. None of my hard work was in my review and none of it counted towards a raise. Eventually after this year passes, I get a review and oh get this, they give me a TWELVE CENT RAISE. OMFG I was like what. the. fuck. They said it was "pro-rated" and that I would have gotten more, had I had my review a year after being actual permanently employed. The real kicker about this 12c raise is that a lot of other girls got less than that - some 6c some 10c. The worst part was that they were HIRING new girls at more than I was hired plus my 12 cent raise AND I had been working a year and a bit. So here I have experience not only from the time I was working at sephora, but from other jobs and these new girls don't, yet they're getting more than me and the other girls who've worked a while. Ugh. Then there was the time I was screwed out of sick pay - that was fun. Basically a manager was like "Do you want to go home? (code for "we're not making enough money today and so we're cutting hours") you're sick anyway, it's not like you won't get sick pay" so I did, and when my sick pay wasn't on my paycheck they were like "oh sorry you don't get paid if you volunteer to go home" ooohh I was so mad! This is just a small snippet of all the bullshit that goes on at Sephora. I would never work there again. I'm still bitter about it 5 years later lol

    • @imapineapple15
      @imapineapple15 8 років тому +1

      ***** Yea they're 100% about money and what you can do for THEM. Even when you look at things like gratis, yes that's lovely, but it doesn't make up for piss poor pay and besides, a lot of the gratis is returned merchandise or broken/defective stuff. So my point is when they sell themselves as "generous" they are getting way more out of it. The managers get bonuses when they cut enough hours or when the store meets sales goals, which is something they don't help one bit to achieve. They aren't on the floor doing all the hard work making all the sales.

The manager sent a mass text to everyone (like maybe 5 or 6 cashiers) a picture of it and was like: "Can anyone explain this!?" So utterly humiliated considering I was the last to notice the text and said "Yeah that was me, so sorry but we couldn't find the right clips so I just tried to improvised." They proceed to lecture me on clips...yeah fucking clips. They said "This is a huge problem! If the District Manager had seen this we would have all been in trouble...blah blah. I specifically told you to call me if you had any trouble. " I responded: "Well I'm very sorry it won't happen again. I just didn't think I needed to bother you with a clip issue but I will call you from now on." I shit you not it was over a clip and in front of EVERYONE! I ended up quitting like a week later cause I found out the Assistant Manager (who was the rudest chick I've ever met TBH) was calling me and a couple other employees who had little mess ups "Turd Cakes" Like... WTF?! Its probably been about a year and a half since I worked there and pretty much everyone I worked with has quit, and Little Miss Turd Cake was either fired or she was moved to a new store. ** I'll also state that I had NEVER worked in any retail before and I also informed them of that the day of my interview but I was never properly trained. It was pretty much: Push this button and restore the shelves K bye you're on your own don't fuck it up. I'm now pushing hard to finish my degree and hopefully never have to work in retail again. That shit can be so fucked up for some people and I'm honestly just not the greatest people person and the older customers that came in there were so rude when I was just trying to be nice and greet them :(

      Sad to hear this because I actually run a Dollar General and would never treat my employees like this . They are my second family . Some SMs need to take a psychology course to be taught people skills. Again, sorry to hear you had a bad experience with DG. I have had good times and bad with the DMs so I totally understand . Wish you would have worked for me because you would have not felt that way . Good luck to you and I am glad you moved away from retail . Wish I could 😢 . I do love my job though. I have been managing for over 20 years. Again, good luck and god bless

      britbarrxoxo I wonder how the ceo would feel if somebody photographed and posted one of those papers for all the world to see......i don't know the laws in America but here in Ireland you would sue the company for something called "constructive dismissal" which is a legal term for management trying to bully you out of your job

      i have a couple stories here. i took over as a manager for Santa in the mall where we take pictures and visit i had an older single mother (had a boyfriend) and a son... if i saw something at bus stop that concern me i would tell what happen. anyways she was hired as my assistant. i butted heads with santa telling me where i can eat and not and how he upset cause i am talk to my boss about him taking free photos on mall floor hurting are sells... and sat in chair grumpy twilling his fingers we had one lady who was an issue. she left her phone at home and ask my am to get it while i was off. or not feeling well... i had to come in and talk... to her.. i pull her to side and had to speak to her. she claim to jennie she had women problems but she came back with her phone... clearly the women problem isn't that other than the phone and if she had women problems stay home.... this was in 2015 she didn't like me i never gave her hours and santa didn't want me to have her there so i didn't put her on hours anymore i couldn't fire her but she could only work so many hours. i did hr a handsome young man who drove good distance and he was very well dress very professional had tie on and everything. i had my friend for extra employees and i unlike last time i work required all to wear the ties... i told my friend he had to wear a tie or get doctors note.

    I feel like every time I went to Sephora dressed in leggings and an oversized sweater and LEGIT COWBOY boots, it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to get any help. On opposed when I would go in dressing very nicely than I would get more help than I wanted. It upsets me so much on how they judge people on how much money they'll spend based on their look. And on top of that, when you would ask for help, they were "too busy" to even speak in my direction when I asked a simple question. They're so judgmental and it ruins the shopping experience. And I agree with you. You should've been paid your raise IMMEDIATELY.

      agree. whenever I go in there without makeup on no one offers me any help. When I have makeup on every single person asks me if I need anything. It is insulting. I tell them all no thanks because from the few times I did ask for help, I seemed to know more about the products in the store than they did.

    Go to your higher ups. If its your assistant manager, go to the manager, and if you truly feel they are both in on it then you need to go to higher ups in the company such as the GM and and your Human Resources person and tell them about all of this. You don't need to go to your manager first. You can go straight to human resources. I had an assistant manager who was a literal devil to me for about a week (lol) - I went to my HR person and they were fired within two weeks when I had only been working there for 7 months and they had been there 3 years. Being unprofessional shines a dirty light on your company and no one in the higher ups likes that.

      also, once you are given a raise (they tell you you're getting one) you require something called backpay for all the weeks you weren't getting your raise pay.

    I've seen some horrible makeup on a Sephora manager (her eyebrows were drawn on and two inches tall and wide). Then there was the frosty green shadow and overdrawn lips... A mess. Proof that Sephora is not paying enough attention to the skills of their managers. The company itself has been in so much hot water in recent years for their policies and lawsuits.

      make up is a form of self expression--+ i wouldn't judge that manager based upon her makeup choices bc those are personal. i would judge her on her manners and if she swears at me or her employees, if she yells. not everyone like plain old boring matte nude eyeshadows. i don't! i wear what I want. Bc it makes ME feel good about myself. It is very sad that u judged that woman based upon her makeup choices!

    • @lavoixdevelours
      @lavoixdevelours 8 років тому +6

      Alexandra Jittu She is the manager, so of course she is supposed to set an example by her appearance. Have you ever been employed as management? Self expression and skill are two different things.

    • @lavoixdevelours

      ***** Sephora continues to grow and profit, but I would absolutely contact headquarters and file a complaint about the store you visited, the employee, and the time/date that you were there.

    • @lavoixdevelours

      Alexandra Jittu When did I say that it has to be nude makeup, boring makeup, or any of the sort? If someone sits down and is paying you or asking for a service then they will be judging your skills before they let you touch their face. It's not about the colors you wear, it's about how well you can apply them. People don't hire Pat McGrath because she can apply makeup to their face, it's because she does it well.

      +Alexandra Jittu What are u talking about? If she's a manager at a makeup counter, one would expect her to know how to put it on! From the description, she has horrible makeup skills..she probably looks like a clown. That's crazy..i wouldn't want her doing my makep when she can't even properly do her own!

    Send a letter to Corporate of both JCPenney and Sephora. If there is a written conversation of the raise after being certified, then both companies could be liable to pay you back pay.

    I worked at Disneyland and I was pregnant and I had so many girls make my life hell because they just wanted to sit on their ass and since I was New they tried to take advantage, I didn’t allow so one girl went on to the manager and say that she hurt her back and can’t lift anything so she had the audacity to tell MEEE to lift a 50lb machine and dump the water out and clean it, I said I can’t do it so the girl started complaining like , “I hurt my back 3 days ago blah blah I have a bruise blah blah I went to the doctor they said I’m fine but it hurts so do it” and I said I can’t sorry ask someone else , this girl kept going at it and started yelling and telling me to CLEAN IT and I said no again and she yelled I HURT MY BACK !!!!! So then I yelled WELL IM PREGNANT BITCH! And she was like omg stop lying you just wanna be lazy and my second manager showed her my pregnancy papers signed by my doctor and Made her clean the damn thing and she was fine.
    Turned out the manager she. Spoke to was friends with her so obviously tried me.
    And then 1 week later they accused me of having food at my station which was a lie and after a weeks of crap I quit and they begged me not to and said nope I’m 5 months pregnant I don’t have to deal with you.
    Point is , there’s crap people and soooo many unprofessional people in the work place. Do you and if you can’t handle it Quit

      I used to work at a pet store and My manager would ALWAYS put me on the register for 8 hour shifts no break except for 30 minutes lunch, when I was not trained to do just the register everyone was suppose to know how to do everything. I’m pretty sure that was illegal to do that. I would complain that everyone else gets to walk around the store and engage with customers while being on the register everyday for my whole eight hour shift is slowly killing me but they would never do anything about it and never trained more people to work the register so it was always me and one other girl on it who felt the same as me. Glad I don’t work there anymore and I’m in school !
