- In this video I'll be sharing with you the basics of working at Sephora, my experience, pros, cons, & why I quit. I did address a lot of different things in this video and hopefully I answered a lot of question. If I missed anything just leave it in the comments. Also, we just hit 75,000+ subscribers just this morning. I CANNOT believe it. This was a goal I made for the year after passing the 50k mark and we still have a few months to go. I see so many "Why I Quit Sephora" videos. If they treated their employees well they'd get long term employees, better able to assist customers.

The company treats their employees like shit, and the employees treat costumers like shit. It's a vicious cycle. Whenever i go in with a bare face im ignored bc they assume i wont spend money

isabella Pena honestly it's a good place to work because you get so much knowledge on all of the brands and you do get gratis (free makeup). But you don't get paid that much and when holiday comes around you can't request off for anything for months and it's so unfair. Like I get it people shop for holiday but we have lives too and they forget that. Plus you work your ass off dealing with crazy clients and you still aren't making what you should be.

I totally understand this!! I was working a job that paid me $17.30/HR but going to work everyday gave me anxiety!! It was not worth it. I quit and now I work a job that pays me minimum wage $11.40 and I totally enjoy it. I also have tons of bills to pay as well but I am getting by. Good luck with everything! Things will work out!
idk where you live but 11.40 is a lot compared to 8.25 which is what I get paid in New Jersey.

christina maleena Damn, girl... I live in the Bay Area in California and I make $31.25/Hour & I'm a 23 year old woman.... You would literally starve to death on $11.00 an hour out here! Idk if you would really even get by on $17.00 tbh. Its crazy.
God dang girl, 17.30 and 11.40 an hour is a shit ton compared to where I live. Minimum wage here is 7.25. I envy wherever you live where minimum wage is 11.40.
well its not really that great. im guessing you probably live in the midwest based off of your min wage. It may be lower but the cost of living is cheaper. here in cali the minimum wage is 10.50 and higher in san fran but you can barely survive off of that because the cost of living is sooooo high. matter of fact you need two jobs to BARELY make it.
Now I'm wondering how 80% of the sephora employees I've encountered got their jobs since I'm usually ignored when I go in there -___-

Show them your rent money and you won't be ignored anymore. Also if you want to annoy the shit outta them just ask them to show you like 20 things and explain stuff about it then leave saying " nah, i don't like it" :D
You're ignored because employees are trained to only help people who look like they will buy a lot of product. On the little headsets they'll be like "someone help the girl/guy in *insert zone here*, they look like a big spender!"
I almost cried when you talked about how you weren't able to go to your sister's games and remembering how no one was at yours growing up. I know how that feels. I'm so proud of you for taking this huge step ! #snapchatfam best of luck, you got this!!!!

Lol when I was interviewed for Sephora the manager told me that I should expect to work every single Sunday/Saturday from October-December and no exceptions and that I should be used to that already working in retail, and if I'm not ok with that that she'll have to terminate the interview immediately. Rudest interview ever.
At my first job at downtown disney they told me they dont care if my birthday is July 4th or Xmas day there was no way I could expect to get any major holidays off or any days when they were hosting events. And any weekends either lol

As someone who just quit a three year long retail job, I can tell you that while its sorta easy to get into and will make you easy money in a sense but after a while it will suck your soul and turn you into a zombie. If you are considering it I would seriously say consider the fact that you probably will lose most of your social life and it'll be incredibly difficult to pursue other ventures in life, like youtube or studies full time. But having an understanding and supportive partner is definitely something you need to have your back.

I just went back and saw this today and listening to you say how scared you were leaving because of bills and how everyone told you to just go for what makes you happy is just where I am at. I wanna do you tube but I would never be able to pay bills. Just hearing all you’ve said in this was an eye opener and look at you now! My JCPENNY Sephora has alot of rude girls working in it like I don't know how they got that job. Most of the time I go there they will see me and not ask me if they can help me or say hi or nothing. I spend major bucks there and their non friendliness makes me not want to go shopping there. I rather go to the main sephora in mall or other online just so I don't have to see their rude faces. It's sad.
Maryann Zamora Ours is in Jcpennys too, if you're anything other than white, the follow you, and asked if you need help every 2 minutes. Like I cannot shop in peace.
Maryann Zamora the one in our Jc Penny’s, Sephora, actually had better customer service than the other one in the mall..... the mall Sephora was HORRIBLE and they were actually out of a product for the longest time, every time I went in, I’d look for it...... anyway I asked one day was there another Sephora anywhere near by and they said, “NOPE” and the whole time, there was another one under the SAME ROOF!!!!!! They had one in the JC Penny store in the mall...... anyway that’s not even close to being the worst thing that I could tell ya about that place and how they treat people... now at the end of the video, I don’t really understand the title of the video versus the content... the title kind of makes ya think the reason you left was due to something related to Sephora
Anyway nothing wrong with the video, so please don’t take that way, it was just a lot leading up to pretty much leaving/quitting for personal reasons, rather than anything to do with Sephora, other than the schedule.... anyway idk, lol It’s not a big deal or anything I guess I’m just still sitting here, like u would in a movie, waiting to see how it ends, to get answers that you have watched the whole movie to get to the end, for the answers, and then BOOM, it’s over and U r still sitting there thinking 🤔......... “ummmm oooook, so I really just sat here this long, and that was it?” Lol. On a good note, you didn’t have to deal with some of the horror stories that many others have shared.... good luck with everything!!!

I feel like each time i go to Sephora (I've only been to two locations) I'm so disappointed in the customer service. (not to reflect anything badly against you. I'm sure you were great)
yes the ones i go to in oklahoma i always know way more about every product they literally cant tell me anything. or have know idea about any of the products. very strange.
Piepeek honestly it varies on the location really , at the one i work in everyone is so nice to the costumers we go around the store asking everyone if they needed help and everyone is nice to each other i get complaints from costumers coming from other Sephoras saying they were denied samples or treated badly and i think it's just the employees it's not really the industriy

Most regular Sephoras seem to have "meh" CS, but all the SiJCP's I've been to have been lovely and the girls are always nice and compliment my eyeliner :P

I work in retail also and I get it. life passes you by so fast. I was interested in working at sephora that's why I clicked ur video. but surprisingly enough u gave me more advice then what I needed about stepping outside your comfort zone and doing what u truly want to do. I currently work at SiJCP and your reasons for priorities is crazy. I'm currently experiencing that feeling of missing out. I'm kind of glad I saw this video because it kind of clarified my priorities but I definitely love working at Sephora. I definitely just have to do better with time management.

Hey Marie Jay! This is the very 1st video I have watched of you and I just want to say thank you!!! This is the type of friend in my head kinda talk I needed to hear. LOL (And you just showed up in my "what to watch".) You have no idea how this is helping me with my decision to leave Sephora. I also like that you never bashed the Sephora company, it was more for YOUR own personal reasons why you left. Unlike the other videos I have seen, other people quit for no real reason. I really connect with the family aspect of it all. Because my sister, mom and I live with my grandparents. Around this time of their life they really need our attention. Its hard being at work and not knowing if they are alright. Like you, I couldn't move on to something I really love to do because of "MY BILLS". Besides, its true that retail is shaky anyways, I will not be making the same amount of money I made two weeks ago. I just need to have faith and plus we both have the support of our families. Once again THANK YOU!!
