Those comments reminded me of my then boyfriend ( now husband) carried a set of pistons in boot on trips and actually changed them on side of road in lake district , this was before he put 3.0 v6 Essex in.

Crazy that Moss Motors, one of, if not THE, best dealers and manufacturers of vintage British motorcar parts, was founded by an American. Moss sold off the Moss Europe arm of the company in the 90s, the new owners ran it into the ground by the 00s, and Moss then re-entered the UK/European markets specifically to ensure that the parts manufacturers and suppliers who sold entirely though Moss wouldn't go bust themselves. A really praisewothy company.

Nice! Used to occasionally see Will and I believe his dad driving various Triumphs when I used to drive my green MK3 GT6 to work down in Horsham from Surbiton, mostly around the Hook area. Never spoken in person but seems like a nice guy. I never had to use Moss as the GT6 ended up being super reliable to be honest but what a place! Great to see places like this keeping our great classics on the road for years to come.
@Ayedidyae Rather depends how one uses the resource. A similar argument could be made for them being the reason so many classics are still able to make it far enough out of the garage as to be there; broken down by the side of the road, in a cloud of smokey steam! :)

As an American, Moss has been an AMAZING resource when finding parts for my Caterham racecar here in the states. I’ve got their stickers on my car just out of love for the company. Awesome to see them getting a feature! They’re so easy to work with, even as an international client!
Awesome episode! Amazing to see companies like Moss supplying modern parts to transform classics like this! Be sure to fit the gas struts the other way around, they last much longer as the Nitrogen gas is less likely to escape from the seal as it's facing downwards.
I had a 1980 1500 Spitfire in vermillion Red in the early '90 great fun but felt old fashioned back then. Mine like to take off when the speedo showed 105mph. Pro Tip, if you put the passenger seat all the way forward and recline it all the way back it's a decent place to sleep in a sleeping bag.
This is the most I've ever seen you guys spend on the car and the most resto! I love it. Maybe send it off to the body shop for a full prep and paint and you will have one epic show car for fun! Maybe an engine rebuild to clean that up but you have a winner here!!! Love it.

Wow, fair play, massive amount of work done by all especially Jooshy and Taylor, I used to restore classic cars so know how much work is involved and how much they cost, I hope Rory appreciates the amount of work done as if you took that to a shop you would have looking at 10 to 15k including parts, a lot of work..! 👍🏻

Ahhh! Makes me miss my 79’ 1500 Spit. Your right those gearbox’s are so direct, and notch free they are a pleasure. You do need little feet to drive it though - the pedals are very close together! Nice work lads. Glad you got the float overflow pipes on, fuel on the exhaust with these = a bad day. Just enjoy it! And definately don’t crash! You can get some low sports seats for these that does put you under the windscreen which is good, perhaps a rollbar as well for a bit extra protection! Loved that episode. Should I have swapped by Spitfire for an MX5 NC? Who knows…

The bloke from Moss was a good lad. Putting up with you lot would make me grow a moustache purely from psychological damage! When I finally get round to starting a mini project, Moss will definitely get a few quid, as well as mini spares & mini sport. I bet you’ll be visiting at least one of them soon- how many more moustaches will we see?
Did you replace the rear leaf spring? It's quite easy and makes such a difference on these! Also, with that exhaust and manifold and open filters, it gets very hot under the bonnet. I had to wrap my manifold and modify some MGB asbestos carb/filter heatshields to cure it. I also had 1500 carbs jetted for my 1300 and that worked well.
That massive rad blocked all the cool air coming in to the engine bay, and the K&Ns got rid of the airbox and hoses that were there to INCREASE power by channeling in fresh air
I bought a 1500 30 years ago that some guy had done a great restore on…. It was a fun car to drive. I would have loved to be able to put in all this newer, hopefully more reliable hardware.
I was never really a Spitfire fan until I helped a friend of a friend. My job was to drive it back from Wales to Newcastle, in the dark, with terrible headlights, along the Hartside Pass. Scary doesn't even start to describe the experience. Was good fun though! 🤣
A few bits of inspiration from MCM with “in the bin” and playing the radiator. And a bit of Smith and Sniff with the “in the 60’s” putting a new engine in on the side of the road
it should be said more often about that while kn style filters are washable and last forever, if you don't maintain and oil them they do not last forever. or well they do but the motor might not.
I had two triumph spitfires a 72 in red and a 73 in white, I loved them both. Great little cars and the best car as a gate way into classic cars because they are so easy to work on.
Always loved the Spitfire, done right they are such a drivers car. Cars like these (MG, Sunbeam, Triumph etc) were clearly the inspiration for the Miata. Had a friend with a Spitfire in the 90's/early 00's, he had a Kawasaki ZZ-R1100 (Ninja) motor in it. It was absolutely insane to drive, stupid dangerous and stupid fun.

Did you replace the rear leaf spring? It's quite easy and makes such a difference on these! Also, with that exhaust and manifold and open filters, it gets very hot under the bonnet. I had to wrap my manifold and modify some MGB asbestos carb/filter heatshields to cure it. I also had 1500 carbs jetted for my 1300 and that worked well.
That massive rad blocked all the cool air coming in to the engine bay, and the K&Ns got rid of the airbox and hoses that were there to INCREASE power by channeling in fresh air
I use a couple dabs of grease to hold the cork rocker cover gasket in place during fitment.
I bought a 1500 30 years ago that some guy had done a great restore on…. It was a fun car to drive. I would have loved to be able to put in all this newer, hopefully more reliable hardware.
I was never really a Spitfire fan until I helped a friend of a friend. My job was to drive it back from Wales to Newcastle, in the dark, with terrible headlights, along the Hartside Pass. Scary doesn't even start to describe the experience. Was good fun though! 🤣
That wheel and tyre combo is the dogs nuts boys! The best set up on a MkIV I've seen.

And a bit of Smith and Sniff with the “in the 60’s” putting a new engine in on the side of the road
it should be said more often about that while kn style filters are washable and last forever, if you don't maintain and oil them they do not last forever. or well they do but the motor might not.
I had two triumph spitfires a 72 in red and a 73 in white, I loved them both. Great little cars and the best car as a gate way into classic cars because they are so easy to work on.
Will called it perfectly on those wheels. Wire-wheels do look good on classics, but those ones suit the Spitfire to perfection 👌

Always loved the Spitfire, done right they are such a drivers car. Cars like these (MG, Sunbeam, Triumph etc) were clearly the inspiration for the Miata. Had a friend with a Spitfire in the 90's/early 00's, he had a Kawasaki ZZ-R1100 (Ninja) motor in it. It was absolutely insane to drive, stupid dangerous and stupid fun.

Gas struts are upside down, black bit goes to the top to keep the seals lubricated with oil. Car looks great though, nice work!
